Chapter IV

A few clouds had settled in the blue sky, obscuring the sun for a moment. They seemed to wait for an eternity. InuYasha was sitting near the door in his usual fashion with his eyes closed; Miroku was praying for their safe recovery; Kagome was staring at a nearby tree, pondering; Sango was sitting on a trunk with the same worried look on her face.

Suddenly Kaede walked outside. She had a sad look on her face. Everyone's eyes widened and prepared themselves for the news. Not wanting to look at anyone in their eyes, she said in a whisper, “I…I am afraid that Kirara and Shippo did not make it. They past before I had a chance to find some kind of cure to their illness.”

There was a heavy silence. No one could think of anything to say.

Sango got up and slowly walked away. “Sango…” Kagome said in a mutter as she walked past her.

Trying to hide her tears, she kept walking away from the group.

“It would be best that we leave her alone for a moment.” Miroku said to Kagome in a whisper.

Sitting outside of the village on a hilltop, Sango sat there in pain. “First my family was slaughtered…then my brother was revived by Naraku and continues to torture both of us. And now, I lost my best companion. My best friend for so long is gone forever.” She broke down in tears.

“What do I have left…” she said out loud as she raised her head slightly.

“You still have us… and me.” Said a voice from behind her.

“Miroku…” She replied in a mumble as she turned her head to see him walk over to sit beside her.

“We have all suffered in the past due to Naraku, especially you. I can't imagine how you must feel after all this ordeal. But you must stay strong to avenge their deaths. Only then will you be free from Naraku's grasp. I need you to be strong.”

Sango looked at Miroku. She gave him a small smile behind her tears.

“Thank you Miroku…I'll stay strong for you.” She replied, wiping her tears.

Meanwhile, back at Kaede's hut, Kagome and InuYasha were left outside. “Poor little Shippo… he was so young. Kagome said as a tear appeared. He was like my little brother.”

InuYasha had nothing to say. He kept looking blankly at the ground.

“Sango must be feeling the same way for Kirara.” InuYasha said after a few moments.

“They were both good companions… I'll miss them greatly.” She replied.

“Naraku will pay for what he has done… Even if it as to kill me, I will have my revenge.”
In a fury, he got up, took out the Tetsusaiga, and used it to cut down a massive tree nearby. “I'll rip him apart with my bear hands!” He yelled.

A few moments after he had calmed down, Miroku and Sango appeared in the distance.

“They're back.” Kagome said in a cheerful voice.

“Sango will need our support to help her recover from this loss.” Said Miroku as they arrived.

“Of course we will help.” Kagome replied.

“I thank you all for everything.” Sango said with a smile trying to hide her pain.

They walked inside as clouds started to take over the sky, obscuring the sun from time to time.
