Summary: Enough is enough. One can only take being second choice for so long.
So Kagome comes up with a plan to make Inuyasha jealous by acting like she’s interested
in someone else. But what she never expected was that she would find herself becoming attracted
to that person nor that she would suddenly be responsible for ending a battle that had started
centuries ago and with her own curse and time limit on her life on top of that...... M/K ficcy!!!
Disclaimer: If I would own it, Miroku would stop groping Sango and Kagome would stop being a bloody fool. Alas, None of those thing's are happening in the anime so it's obvious I don't have any rights over it. (>_<!!)
Really someone has to tell Rumiko Takahashi to change that whole little scenario thing. The couples in the anime are just all wrong. M/K. That should be it. And that's it. Who agrees? Well if your reading this fic then of course you do.
Warning: Confusing in some parts. But that's my goal fools. I can't let the main plot of the story slip yet. Lookie! We're barely up to chap 5. It's much too early for plot slipping. Amy agrees. Doesn't she?

Chapter 5: Realizing the Depths of a Dream.
A blur. That's what it was. The most horrifing, Scary, Slow happening blur of his life.
Blood was still spilling out of her wound even though he was trying his god damned best to put the the most pressure on it.
With shaking hands, Miroku adjusted his grip on the wound on the side of Kagome's neck. She was becoming paler by the second, His only consolation being that he could still feel her breathing.
Inuyasha had gone into a rage. He had even gone as far as to literally drop Kikyo in his haste to get to Kagome.
Miroku had been frozen to the spot for a good while. Even while Sango angrily cut through what proved to be another puppet he had been rooted to the spot just watching as Kagome's blood began to pour out of her and on to her white dress and the ground.
Sango had been the one that grabbed a sobbing Shippou and clutched him tightly. She had been the one who ran up to him while holding the little kitsune in one arm and dragged him towards where Inuyasha was desperately holding Kagome.
Almost imediately, Inuyasha lifted Kagome up and ordered Miroku to get on to a transformed Kirara. Miroku numbly did as he was told and suddenly found himself holding Kagome. Common sense kicked in at that point so Miroku began applying pressure to the gastly wound going across the bottom of Kagome's neck where it met her shoulder.
Inuyasha hastily explained that he couldn't run with Kagome or else the movement might jar her injury and Kirara was the only one that could keep up with him. Sango caught on quickly and along with Shippou climbed up on Inuyasha's back.
And here he was. Scared to death and urging Kirara to go faster for Kagome's sake. Miroku dared a peek down and could barely see the fast moving red speck that was Inuyasha. With a worried look he turned back to the young girl in his arms.
God dammit! He was scared. Never ever in his life had he felt such a fear! The thought of her life slipping away whilst in his arms was just......
He wouldn't let it happen. Kagome was to young to die. And when he got the chance, Miroku himself would rip the real Naraku apart for this. Playing on her emotions to get her in line with that tentacle. It was enough to make Miroku see red.
Kagome could not die. He just could'nt picture her gone. Dead. No.
Kagome was to lively to die. And...and....
Miroku didn't want her to die.
And not for what would have been the obvious reason. No.
Because he couldn't picture his day's without her.

"Do you believe in god....?"
Soft exhale of breath. Heat flowing across cold skin.
"Or.....Is it...Buddha?..."
Another soft exhale followed by more heat.
"Or....Is it that you've already given up on both and given yourself to ME...."
Pain shoots through every nerve starting at a single unidentifiable point.
"I'm not causing you this pain child...."
More pain and a strangled sob.
"No, but you can make it go away...."
Minutes pass. Soft whispers of two voices continue on but the conversation can not be made out.
"Do you understand the price for your revenge.....?"
"Yes...."
"Ahhh but if you should fail....This curse shall be bestowed upon another....."
"I heard you. Another who is as strong as me. Another later on stemming from my bloodline....."

Miroku jumped off the fire cat even before she touched the ground completely. He landed in a crouch still holding a now shaking Kagome in his arms. He took off in a full sprint towards Kaede's hut while trying to keep his running as light as possible for Kagome.
"Lady Kaede!", He yelled as he aproached the huts covered entrance.
"What is it Miro....", Kaede trailed off as she saw all the blood dripping on the ground as Miroku ran towards her holding Kagome. "Get her inside now!", She said making way for Miroku to run into the hut. Kaede turned around before entering the hut when she felt a large breeze crawl up her back. Inuyasha was approaching at top speed and from where she was standing, Kaede could now see Sango and Shippou perched on his back.
Kaede rushed back into the hut and knelt down next to a frenzied Miroku. "Miroku.....Do ye remember ye's training in the healing arts well?", She asked as she rummaged around the hut gathering supplies.
"Yes Lady Kaede", Miroku said laying Kagome down on a mat. Taking deep breaths he forced his hands to stop shaking. He would not be able to help Kagome at all if he couldn't even keep his hands still.
Sango opened the flat of the hut and looked in. Kaede was gathering all her healing supplies. She could only see Miroku's back and Kagome's legs but she could tell Miroku was trying his best to help Kagome and it made her heart constrict slightly. Sango gave a small smile as she stared at Miroku's back with a dreamy expression. A pervert, Yes he was. But he was also so kindhearted.
Kaede moved all the herbs, Along with a bowl of water towards where Kagome was laying. "Sango, It's best if all of you remain outside while Miroku and I help Kagome", Kaede said calmly.
Sango nodded her head rapidly before exiting the hut.
"What's going on?", Asked a teary eyed Shippou.
"Miroku and Kaede are going to try to help her. Miroku is a monk after all so he should know some really good healing techniques", Sango said sitting down next to one of the walls of the huts. Sango raised her head and stared at Inuyasha who was on his knees on the ground.
He looked.....
Simply like a lost puppy.
He was staring at his hands that were hanging dijectively in front of him. His hazel eyes where glazed over and Sango doubted the he would be able to hear anyone who tried to talk to him.
Sango wanted to tell him that it hadn't been his fault that it had been Naraku's fault but how could she? Part of her believed it that it hadn't been Inuyasha's fault. But part of her....
Damn it Kikyo was dead already! Kagome on the other hand was NOT.
Yet how was Inuyasha supposed to know that Naraku would do that? Hell, Even she hadn't seen it coming. No one had. Not even Kagome.

Inside the hut Kaede had cleansed out the wound and was busy preparing stitches while Miroku applied some salve made from herbs to the wound. He was mumbling a slight prayer as he did so and Kaede could clearly feel the anxiety coming off of him in waves. Miroku was truly worried for Kagome. She would even dare say he was terrified of her dying.
"Miroku. Do ye think that those herbs ye are applying to her will help her? After all I am only a priestess, Ye are a monk", Kaede said moving closer with the needle and thread in her hand.
Miroku finish applying the salve and gently moved Kagome's neck. The salve was already beginning to dry up which was helping a great deal with stopping the wound from bleeding. "What worries me Lady Kaede is if that...", Miroku stopped to take a deep breath anger overwhelming his senses. "Tenticle, Sliced a major blood path or something. If it did there is no way I will be able to know and it can have really bad consenquences".
"Let us pray then so that the child comes out alright", Kaede said handing Miroku the stitches.
Miroku continued to murmur a prayer while he began slowly and neatly stitching up the wound. No matter how it healed, He knew for sure that it would scar badly. The only thing that could help it in the slightest was the way it was stitched close. That was why he was taking his time.
Kaede studied Miroku quietly as he went about helping Kagome. She was sensing something in the houshi. Something she hadn't sensed before in him, ever and she was almost sure that the houshi wasn't aware of the change himself. She only hoped Inuyasha didn't catch on to it anytime soon if not all hell would brake lose.
A side finally won in Sango's inner debate. Shippou had cried himself to sleep in her arms so she gently laid him down on the ground. With a small mental nod she stood up and determinedly made her way towards Inuyasha.
He was an idiot to the perfection of the defination. Yes. But it hadn't been his fault so as a friend she would help him see that by talking to him. Although Sango could practically feel Hiraikotsu itching to be the one to 'help' him see it.
Inuyasha's ears, Which had been recently flat against his head, Twitched in her direction and Sango knew that he had heard her coming. "Inuyasha....Can we talk?", She asked gently sitting in front of him.
Inuyasha nodded his head slowly but did not lift his gaze from the ground.
"I can imagine how you must feel but it wasn't your fault", She said placing a hand akwardly on his shoulder.
Inuyasha flinched slightly when he felt her hand but after a second relaxed and looked up at her. "Of course it was my fault. I....I wanted to save Kikyo....I didn't know."
Sango let go of his shoulder and nodded her hand. He had once helped her when she had planned on killing Kohaku and then herself. She understood in a sort of ironic way what he was going through. "You said it yourself. You didn't know. No one can blame you and we both know for sure that Kagome wouldn't blame you either. You can atleast make it up to her by being strong at a moment like this. It's what she would want", Sango said standing up. The hanyou's ears perked up almost instantly and she knew that her words had gotten through. With a small smile she walked back towards where she had left Shippou sleeping.

Miroku finished stitching the wound and allowed Kaede to apply another salve to it while he looked for bandages to wrap Kagome's neck in her back pack.
"Miroku, I believe the child is becoming feverish".
Miroku returned to Kagome's side and imediately saw the difference. Her face had become even paler, Her forehead had become shiny with sweat and she was shaking again. But something didn't feel right. He could feel it. Kagome's aura was growing as if she had gone into a deep meditated state.
"Kaede that isn't a fever she's going through", He said touching Kagome's forehead. Instead of it being hot as he had thought it would be it was cold and clamy. "Kaede, I think......I think she's having an out of body experience", Miroku said inhaling deeply.
Kaede's one good eye widened as she looked at him. "Miroku, The child has no sort of training in doing such a thing. There is no way she could do it without being trained and if by chance she is doing it, She has no knowledge on how to stop it. If her soul has truly left her body she could........"
"Die", Miroku finished for her worriedly.
///.....///
That temple was getting closer again. Looking down there was that white dress again. But what hadn't been noticed before was the state of the body that was in the white dress.
And yes, Now she could tell. This body was pregnant.
And another thing she could now tell was that it was her in this body. Kagome could tell that she was the one walking towards that temple. She was the one pregnant.
"Are you nervous my love?"
Kagome felt her head turn to the side and she was staring right into a man's light blue eyes.
"Of course I am nervous Yasashiku. It is our wedding day after all."
Kagome heard herself say those words. But it could not have been her. Sure the voice sounded oddly like hers but it was evident that it belonged to a much older woman.
The man gave her a warm gentle smile and she felt her heart beat speed up with a warm emotion. As if she was in love with this man. But she could not have been. She didn't even know who he was.
The man grabbed her hand with that gentle smile still on his face.
"As am I. But I could have never been happier. I am about to marry the woman I love and she is pregnant with my daughter."
Kagome heard herself laugh. Now that really sounded like her laugh.
"And how do you know it's a girl?"
The temple was getting closer with each step.
"The priestess at the village already predicted it. That's why I already chose her name."
Kagome looked over the man slowly but she had not had the intention of doing so. It was as if her body was doing things off it's on will.
He had pretty baby blue eyes. And really light brown hair. Kagome could also tell that he had this patience and kindness about him.
"Is that so? And what name did you choose my love?"
My love? Kagome didn't even know this man and she could feel and hear that voice coming from her speaking to him in such a way.
"Akina.."
"That's perfect. I love it. Assuming it is a girl. You know I don't quite believe in all that religious stuff."
Yasashiku gave a low chuckle and smiled that smile at her again.
The temple was really close now and Kagome could feel this dread starting to fill her chest.
"Are you ready Yuriko?"
Kagome's felt her head turn back to look at Yasahiku. Yuriko? What in the name of the gods........?
///...///
Miroku replaced the warm cloth on Kagome's head after once again having dipped it in hot water. "Kaede, You are gonna have to step out of the hut while I talk her down from it. Or at least try", He added under his breath.
Miroku barely noticed when Kaede left the hut. He was intent on saving Kagome no matter what. He himself had been through only one soul walk and that had been under the strict supervision of at least 5 monks while he had been in training. He knew the basics of it but still, He doubted he was trained enough to bring her back down without him too getting stuck out of his body.
It was a chance Miroku knew he was going to have to take because Kagome would not die. Not if he had anything to do about it.

///...///
