Inuyasha and the others debated if they should bring the body that housed Kikyou back to Kaede’s village, but Sesshoumaru pointed out that the young dead priestess no longer resembled Kikyou. So they decided to bury her by a tree and pay their respects. Kagome occasionally glanced at her mate, but neither spoke a word. Inuyasha wondered if Kagome thought that he still had feelings for Kikyou, even though he made it clear he didn’t during their month of peace. It took that long to fully convince her. He didn’t want to take a step backward in their relationship.
“Kagome, why are you upset?” Inuyasha finally asked.
It was taking Kagome some getting used when it came to using her senses, not like she really needed to. After all the jewel that connects their hearts could tell her what Inuyasha was feeling, he was worried about her feelings. “I feel bad for Kikyou, she suffered so much.” Kagome said. She offered Inuyasha a reassuring smile. “But I know she isn’t suffering any more.” Inuyasha returned her smile as he sensed her heart become at peace with the statement.
Everyone took their time walking through the forest, they was aware that if Kikyou was able to make it as far as she did Toshi probably wasn’t far, that is if he was the cause of her injuries. Sesshoumaru and Satsuki walked besides Inuyasha and Kagome. While Sango, Miroku and Shippou followed closely behind.
“Shippou you should have probably stayed behind with Rin.” Miroku said with a concerned tone.
“No way, I can help to.” Shippou huffed. Everyone knew Shippou was getting older and hoped Inuyasha would have the patience to help him work on his powers. Unfortunately his lessons were disturbed by the new threat, but that wouldn’t stop Shippou from wanting to use what he learned. Kagome giggled as she listened to the conversation behind them. Sesshoumaru cut through the laugh.
“You realize that if the kitsune tries to fight he will die.” Sesshoumaru said coldly.
“Keh, like I’ll let anything happen to anyone!” Inuyasha snorted.
“Kagome,” Sesshoumaru said. Kagome twitched her ears, she never heard Sesshoumaru address her by name before. Satsuki must be teaching him manners.
“Hmm.” She responded.
“You have softened him and strengthened him at the same time, how can a mere human have so much strength and courage?” Sesshoumaru asked. Through the years he witnessed Inuyasha accomplish incredible feats of power and strength, all in the name of protecting Kagome, and the miko who was always defiant and stood her ground besides him, never letting him fight alone.
Kagome blushed at the question and wasn’t sure how to answer it. Inuyasha beat her to the punch. “Because she accepts me for who I am!” Inuyasha growled. “She never wanted me to be something I’m not and she believed in my power.” Kagome smiled at her mate, she never heard him speak so openly about emotions. “Besides no matter what she’ll never leave my side.” Inuyasha put a loving arm around his mate’s waist and it stirred something inside Sesshoumaru.
‘Is that true power, to have someone who loves you.’ Sesshoumaru pondered, he thought of the woman who carried his pup. The woman who he claimed as a mate and who he came to love. It didn’t seem like it was to long ago when he first met her. Cold, calm, fierce. She was softened slightly because of the pup. But she would return to normal if not more intense when it was born. A territorial and protective mother. He be lucky if he could close to the pup unscathed. Sesshoumaru chuckled to himself as he thought of their first night together, how he fought to trust her and quickly lost that battle. Allowing her to touch, to kiss. She surrendered herself to him completely, only taking a dominating role when he wasn’t going the pace she wanted. He felt like he belonged with her, he would give up all of his lands for her. ‘I know what power is...’
Satsuki walked besides Sesshoumaru. How quickly had she found her way into his powerful arms. She wasn’t ashamed of her directness. It was 400 years in the making, since she was young she remembered her parents talking of the Taiyoukai Inu no Taishou and his powerful son. It was after Sesshoumaru left his Father army that she joined, falling in love with Tashio, but he refused her advances, she was to met Sesshoumaru. But he didn’t live long enough to introduce them as planned. Satsuki wandered the land searching for a male who was her equal. But she never found him. She wasn’t evil, or heartless like many other Inu youkai, like Toshi. But he was Tashio and that is what she felt she needed, but she also needed the right Tashio. Satsuki glanced up to Sesshoumaru, her equal. He was calm, brave, powerful. He was everything she needed. ‘I wonder if he feels the same way.’ She thought. There were times she had been afraid, afraid of never knowing true love.
Inuyasha and Kagome interrupted both Inu youkai thoughts. “Sesshoumaru, you always been one to seek power right?” Kagome asked.
“Power is having someone who loves you deeply.” Inuyasha said.
“While loving someone deeply gives you courage.” Kagome finished for Inuyasha.
Sesshoumaru and Satsuki allowed the words of Kagome and Inuyasha to flow through them and course it’s way through their hard hearts. Satsuki who has loved and lost. Sesshoumaru who has never loved at all. Sesshoumaru looked down into his mate’s cold but soft eyes. He gave her a knowing smile, which she was happy to return.
Sango and Miroku walked closely behind and listened in on the conversation. They were happy that Inuyasha and Kagome were open about their feelings now. They remembered a time where there was so much tension, when Inuyasha ran off to see Kikyou. But this time it was different Inuyasha was hurt but he remained by Kagome’s side. Even Kikyou saw the difference. Miroku believed she saw the err of her ways just before she died, she knew that Inuyasha was truly happy.
Sango glanced at her husband, she didn’t want to seem like a hentai like him but she was upset that they had yet to consummate their marriage. Miroku had been frustrated also, he was pleased that he was allowed to occasionally let her hand wander across his wife’s body. But he needed to go further. As if reading his mind Sango moved her body closer to his. Her aroma, the heat from her body, drove Miroku insane. He wanted to see her beautiful face and body, heaving and sweating, he wanted to feel her tremble with pleasure under his hard body.
Sango moved in to whisper in Miroku’s ear. “I can’t wait till we get home, I want to see what else you can do with your hands.” Sango was bright red when she said that, but now she was married, it was time to loosen up. The groups blissful thoughts were interrupted when sword flew out from the foliage, nearly hitting Miroku but piercing a tree behind them instead. Kohaku flew out a moment later.
“Kohaku!” Inuyasha growled. Sango was to stunned to say anything as she stared at the boy who was once her Brother. Sesshoumaru and Satsuki already took off in the direction Kohaku came from, they knew Toshi was close. Inuyasha and Kagome wanted to help Sango and Miroku, they felt torn, they also knew Sesshoumaru and Satsuki would need their assistance.
“Go, find that Bastard!” Sango yelled, surprising the two hanyous. “Well take care of Kohaku.”
Inuyasha and Kagome nodded, following Sesshoumaru and Satsuki who had already met Toshi.

“Dear nephew.” Toshi chuckled. “Taking a whore for a mate I see. You would have been better off with Kagura.” Sesshoumaru bared his fangs, angered Toshi would insult his Satsuki. “Speaking of which you hadn’t seen the wind witch have you?” Toshi would kill her for escaping.
Satsuki stepped forward. “She broke the Tashio curse, Toshi.” She growled.
Toshi narrowed his eyes. He glanced at Kanna, was he now free to feel.
