InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ New Journey ❯ 31 ( Chapter 31 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]
"Are we almost at the summit?" Shippo asked. They had been traveling for about two days, and they had to hurry.
"Yeah, yeah. Just about another hour or two." They walked in silence for about a half hour, then Kagome suggested some lunch.
"Hoe about some Ramen everyone?" Everyone nodded.
"We need our strength if we are to face Rysuki." Kagura said.
"Who knows what tricks he has in store for us." Nari added darkly. They ate in silence, then walked until they were just about at the summit, just about another 50 yards off. That could be covered in minutes tomorrow.
"Are you guys okay with resting now?" Kohaku asked. "We have to be well rested. Kagome, got any of that bacon stuff?"
"No, sorry, but I have some pancake batter from when we went to my time last."
"That's for breakfast tomorrow then. Get a good nights rest." He didn't have to add 'It may be the last sleep you get in this life.' Kagoem and Inuyasga snuggled under a sleeping bag, shippo by their legs. Miroku and Sango slep right beside each other, and Kagura and Koga slept right next to each other. Nari and Kohaku stayed awake for a little while, then drifted off, Nari deep asleep in Kohaku's arms.
*Next Day*
"I'm going to find a flat stone to heat so we can cook teh batter!" Kagome called out. "Sango, why don't you take Nari and Kagura to find any edible leaves or something? Water too!" Kagome left when she saw Sango give a nod. That left Shippo, Mirku, Koga, and Inuyasha.
"Let us go find firewoord." Miroku suggested. "We can stoke the fire higher and hotter with that. Shippo, guard camp. We won't be long." Shippo nodded, not wanting to stray from the scant protection the tiny fire offered him. They three men left to find the wood, and everyone else was gone. Shippo set up an illusion to keep everyone thinking that this was an ordinary clearing, and he also set up a barrier allowing non eto enter but his friends. Exhausted from his efforts, he went back to sleep.
*Kagome*
"Oh, here's a good one!" Kagome exclaimed. It was hard to find perfect rocks, but soem came close. She took this one. Kagome bent down and picked up the nearly flat rock and tested it, making sure it wasn't brittle. It held firm.
"Good! Only five more to go!" She placed the rock near others that she had collected, and made to move on. She heard his voice then.
"Hello Kagome." Kagome looked up. Inuyasha was standing right across from her. That was funny, she hadn't heard him approach.
"Inuyasha! Why aren't you at the camp? Did you some here to get some more firewood?" Kagome asked. Inuyasha took a step toward her.
"No, I came here to show you something, you stupid girl." Inuyasha smiled. He was in his full youkai form too. Kagome looked surprised, then hurt.
"Inuyasha..... I asked you not to call me that any more.........."
"So? I decided that this name fits you. Stupid girl." Inuyasha smiled and took another step toward her. Kagome was shocked. Inuyasha had never behaved like this.....
"Kikyo was much prettier. Maybe I should have gone with her." Kagome started crying. Inuyasha was saying this to her. Her Inuyasha! 'No,' Kagome reminded herself sadly, 'Kikyo's Inuyasha, he's always been Kikyo's Inuyasha.'
"In fact, I can't believe I ever thought that you were her. She's much better. I will now do what I should have done when we first met." Inuyasha released her, and Kagoem couldn't move for fear and disorientation. She saw Inuyasha running towards her, slashing down, and then she felt pain....... terrible pain. It was right on her left shoulder, not a fatal wound, but similar to the one Kikyo had recieved that had sealed her fate. If it had been an inch to the right.........
"Feh. Missed." said Inuyasha, landing and licking the blood off his claws. It sickened Kagome to know that the blood was hers. She cried, dropping to her knees.
"Why are you doing this Inuyasha? Why did you betray me?" Kagome was surprised to find herself quoting Kikyo. She was even more surprised when Inuyasha didn't react.
"I won't miss this time.........." Inuyasha cracked his knuckles, readying himself to kill Kagome.
'Inuyasha....... what happened to you?' Kagome thought as she saw Inuyasha rush toward her.
*Inuyasha, Kohaku, Koga, and Miroku.*
"Can't you hurry up?" Koga asked irritably. "We have to find soem wood so that we can go on and beat Rysuki. This is-"
"Our last day of our year, and Nari has told us that the swords will revert at dawn tomorrow. We know." Miroku said tiredly. A twig snapped.
"Who's there?" asked Kohaku.
"Don't worry so, Kohaku. It's just Sango, Kagura, Kagome and I." Nari's voice came from the direction of the snapped twig. They all lowered their weapons.
"Good. Why are you so far from camp?" Inuyasha asked.
"We were scared. What if Rysuki attacked?" Kagome asked, stepping out of the shadows, the other three close behind.
"Feh! Rysuki is waiting for us at the summit. Do you have the stones?" Inuyasha asked, going up and putting his arms around her.
"Of course I do. We can't make pancakes without the stones!" Kagome said cheerfully, wrapping her arms around Inuyasha. He took a whiff of her scent. There was something......... not Kagome-ish about it. Wait he recognized it, but from where?
"Nari, why didn't you stay at camp? Shippo could protect you.......... he uses illusions after all." Kohaku said, walking towards Nari.
"Yeah, but you can take care of yourself." Koga said, talking and walking to Kagura.
"You could as well Sango. You need not Inuyasha or myself to protect you." Miroku said. Somethingw as fishy about this.......
"You're right Miroku. None of us need you to protect us." Sango said. She morphed into demon form. The others followed her lead. "Do we girls?"
"Sango? Are you alright?" Miroku asked. To his surprise, Sango laughed.
"I'm better then I have been in ages, dear husband. I've seen the truth. We don't need you anymore, so why should we stick around you? Pathectic monk......." Sango laughed again, cold and high and ugly. Kagome wriggled out of Inuyasha embrace.
"You're right Sango. I don't need that stupid half-breed anymore......." Kagome laughed, and her laugh was as cruel as Sangos.
"Kagome.." Inuyasha said, hurt. Miroku was in shock. How could his dear sweet Sango say such things?
"You're right. What do I need that dumb wolf for? Wimply wolf." Kagura added.
"I don't even know what to call Kohaku." Nari said Kohaku's name like a swear. "Is it possible taht he isn't a real demon?" Nari and Kagura just laughed.
"What? Na-Nari......" Kohaku voice trembled. "I- I thought....."
"Whatever you thought, it was wrong." Nari said coldly. She then turned to the others. "Why don't we dissect them and find out what they're made of?"
"Excellent suggestion!" Kagome said. She flexed her claws. "Ready girls?" They nodded.
"No, wait! What's happened to you? Is it Rysuki?" Inuyasha asked, grabbing Kagome by the arms, a little roughly. "Kagome, snap out of it!"
"Don't touch me! Vile half-breed, loathesome half-man....... Recognize these words Inuyasha?" Kagoem spat at him as she swept ehr claws across his lower arms. Inuyasha barely felt it. She had quoted Kikyo.......
"Kagome.........." he whispered. He released her, letting his blood drip. "Kagome..."
"Wind Blades Dance!" Kagura shouted, aiming her blades at Koga. She had always kept it with her, in case she couldn't reach her sword. "Recognize this one Koga? Want em to use your dead body to attack the others?" Koga barely dodged in time, and one Wind Blade glanced off of his shoulder.
"Kagura! Stop it!" Koga shouted. It didn't work.
"Bite of the Wind!" Nari yelled, soaring up into the sky. One 'bite' nearly hit Kohaku, its intended target. "Do hold still, I'm trying to work target practice!" Nari yelled down, a cold mirth in her voice.
"Miroku!" Sango called. She shot a poison spike at him. "Try dodging, if you can!" Miroku looked up from teh ground just intime to avoid the worst of the spike. It hit his lower leg, tearing straight through the muscle.
"Arghhhhhh!" He yelled, trying to grab it to prevent the worst of the bleeding. It didn't help. He transformed into his demon form so that it would heal. That wasn't working either. It was just a hole in his cape, and the part of his body that was exposed was sucking everything in. He quickly reverted back. The wund wasn't as serious now. The youkai form had done a bit of good. He looked up at Sango, who was now drawing her katana- her talisman sword.
"Ready to fight, dear houshi?" Sango asked. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw the other girls drawing their swords.
'What happened to them?' he thought.
