InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Nightmares ❯ The finale' ( Chapter 3 )
[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
Inuyasha awoke to the sound of blood curdling screams, he turned searching frantically for the source. When to his horror his eyes landed on a shadow yokai, in whose clutches was a writhing Kagome, her screams of pain echoed around him and rang in his ears. The night went still as the shadow yokai expanded it's dark powers and with one final scream Kagome went still. Her limp form brushed by the yokai's power the strength of which made the summers air turn cold and spread a chilling death to everything in it's path. The creature shot out a huge blast of power and Inuyasha dodged it, shielding his eyes from the sudden flash and when he opened them the place before him was far different than it had been. The grass was frozen and brittle, the air was dry and stagnant, even the sky appeared sick and pale. The only things left untouched were the shinboku and thankfully Inuyasha.
“I don't know who you are but you will release Kagome and fix this now, unless you have a death wish!” Inuyasha shouted as he drew Tessaiga and took on a fighting stance.
“This is only the beginning hanyou,” the demon said as it glowed faintly purple and before Inuyasha could react it surrounded Kagome's limp body, like black smoke covers the light.
Kagome's body rose into the air surrounded by a black light and with a flash began to change. Though Inuyasha rushed forward he was blocked by a barrier, that try as he might he could not break. So he was forced to watch as kagome's nails became crimson claws, black wings sprouted from her back, her body became coved with dark symbols, her skin turned an unearthly blue, and finally her eyes opened to become milky colorless orbs.
“Hahahaaa!” the now possessed kagome's cackled as she descended.
“But but how,” Inuyasha stammered.
“You ignorant fool, I am a product of the poison that flows through her veins and the nightmares that darkened her heart,” she hissed.
“No,” Inuyasha shouted as he lunged forward swiping with his claws.
The demon disappeared before he got close enough to do damage and was thrown forward by his momentum, causing him to slide over the frozen earth.
“Don't worry hanyou, you wont have to fret for long, for once I've destroyed your friends I'll finish you and the girl,” the demon rasped as it disappeared in a swirl of black mist.

Kaede shot forward from her bed, her sheets flying with the force of her awakening. She could hear the screams of the dying and feel the dark power around her. She rushed from her hut to find the village ablaze and covered with blood and bodies. The taija and hoshi were fighting the attacker, the kitsune kit and fire cat lay dead at their feet. The taija sprung forward swinging her large weapon, the reflections of the flames and anger burning in her eyes. Kaede's eyes widened in terror as the creature snapped the weapon and struck down it's wielder with a blast of dark power. Then it turned on the hoshi, who opened his kazanna in an attempt to destroy it, and shot a blast of energy into the open void easily ripping the hoshi into bloody shreds.
Kaede rushed forward as the creature knelt in front of its victims, dipping its fingers into a pool of blood, and then licking them clean.
“Stop yokai,” Kaede yelled as she drew forth an ofuda.
The creature shot forward lifting the old woman above the ground and with a swipe shredded the ofuda in her hand. Kaede's gaped in horror as she stared into the pale orbs of the monster before her and drew her last breath as the creature moved with lightening speed and shot a blast of power into her heart.

Inuyasha ran through the woods as quickly as he could, the air whistled painfully in his ears as he passed the land in a blur. He knew the demon was headed for the village and cringed as its words echoed in his mind, `Don't worry hanyou, you wont have to fret for long, for once I've destroyed your friends I'll finish you and the girl,'.
He could smell the smoke before he saw it, Inuyasha arrived to find the village ablaze, the acrid smells of death and burning flesh filled his nose. Inuyasha had arrived just in time to see Kaede's death. The old woman fell limply to the ground as blood spattered her surroundings and began to pool under her lifeless form.
The creature turned, its lips and hands smeared with blood and a wicked smile spread across her face. Inuyasha wordlessly scanned the scene before him, Sango, Miroku, Kilala, and even Shippo lay dead and burning in the flames, their eyes glazed and wide with death and the reflections of the flames making them appear discolored. In one day he had lost everyone he'd ever cared for, but if there was even some small chance he could save Kagome, he was going to take it. Even if it meant giving his life in exchange for hers.
Inuyasha rushed forward clasping his hands tightly around the wrists of his possessed love and as she struggled against him he spoke to her the words he'd so feared to say,” Kagome, I love you. I love with all my heart and if your in there, I promise I'll save you.”
Once finished, he leaned down brining his lips to hers. Her struggling ceased and her eyes widened as they returned to normal and then closed as the changes the demon had wrought disappeared along with the demon himself.
Once the kiss ended Kagome smiled sweetly at Inuyasha and spoke, “ Inuyasha I love you to and I hope you can forgive me for this,” she said as she stepped back from him and let forth a bright blast of spiritual power that healed all the damage she had done, and then she fell to the ground and spoke her final words, “Inuyasha, I'm sorry,” she whispered faintly as her eyes closed and her body fell limp.
Inuyasha hit his knees and lightly shook her lifeless body.
“Kagome, Kagome, KAGOME!” he screamed as he pulled her head against his chest and wept for her as did all their newly resurrected friends who had witnessed the ordeal.
The whole village wept for her, the brave young girl who'd sacrificed her self to save all of their lives. They were so wrapped up in their grief that they didn't notice the figure that had appeared in front of Inuyasha and the lifeless Kagome.
“Inuyasha,” Kikyo said softly as she stood before him.
“Kikyo, why are you here?” he asked as tears continued to flow from his eyes.
“When the girl passed her soul entered my body, but I do not deserve it. I have lived long enough, the good of this child's heart has healed my own and shown me this. So I shall give her back her soul and finally make peace with this world,” she smiled as she knelt on the ground.
“Thank you Kikyo,” Inuyasha said smiling tearfully as he place Kagome's body in her arms.
Kikyo closed her eyes as she released the sols she had collected and finally released Kagome's full spirit back into her body. With the last bit of energy she said,” Inuyasha treasure this girl and keep her safe, don't make this act one done in vain,” Kikyo smiled faintly before in a flash of light her body returned to grave soil and bones and Kaede scooped them up.
“May my sister finally be at peace,” she said as she moved to place the bones and soil in their proper place.
As the old woman left Kagome's eyes fluttered open and she smiled weakly. Seeing her alive again Inuyasha pulled her into a loving embrace and the area around them erupted with the joyous cheers of the villagers and their friends.
“Thank you Kikyo, you've brought Kagome back to us,” Inuyasha thought as he pressed his lips to Kagome's. Behind them the sun rose signaling a new beginning for all.
