Hey peoples. Well, my uncle died from his brain tumor near the end of April. His wife went down to Florida with her middle daughter's family so she got to take a vacation and recover from it so i had to go to work with mom. Then I hurt my neck and was stuck with a continuous headache for two and a half weeks. And then mom kidnapped my laptop for a week (okay, technically I leant it to her but I still view it as kidnapping) but now I have it back and have finally gotten through my little writers block..... now if these dumb hiccups would just go away.
Sorry I made you wait for this. I get sick easily and am prone to headaches so that tends to put gaps in my writing. Now that weather is warmer I should be much better.
On with the show!!

Hikar i sat quietly in a chair in the corner of her chambers. That was usually the best place to be, her father could easily find her and she was only able to stay out of trouble if she sat in her room. So there she was, her book cast aside, not in the mood for reading. She turned her head to the sounds of birds at her balcony and looked down into the flower covered gardens. She would love nothing more than to run about outside, and feel the warm winds blow her hair around.
She sighed, what was the difference between this corner and the one she would have in a few months with her "mate". The thought made her physically sick, being mate to that youkai.
The only way Hikari could deal with it was to think of him as "that youkai" if he had no name than he didn't have to be real. "That youkai" who pretended to be kind and caring in front of her father, like he cared if she was well taken care of. "That youkai" who scolded her for asking questions about what her new home would be like. "That youkai" who put more cuts on her once flawless skin before the others could heal and left her sore and broken.
Hikari growled into the empty air of her room. She looked out the balcony doors for the thousandth time that day and contemplated running away for the billionth time in her life. There would be no point to that, she knew they'd catch her and punish her, it wasn't worth it.
"Lady Hikari?"
She frowned and looked over at the servant.
"Your father wishes to speak with you," the small servants voice barely came above a whisper and she was gone just as fast.
Hikari rolled her eyes and stood, making her way to her father's study. She simply pushed open the door, and gingerly sat down, her bottom was still sore from the other night, on one of the cushions before looking up at her father.
The glare he gave here did not even make her flinch and his reprimanding words, at so rudely barging in, she ignored with a blank stare. When he was done he lifted a letter that had been resting on his desk and waved it in the air at her.
"This letter arrived very early this morning, Lord Sesshoumaru has chosen a mate. And he has summoned all the nobles to his castle for the announcement of the name of the Lady he has chosen and to have the mating ceremony done that evening as well. Most irregular but I suppose he wishes to get it all done as quickly as possible."
Hikari continued to stare blankly at him, she couldn't have cared less but what she cared about was of no matter. "So when are we leaving?"
"This evening, the event is in six days so we will have to forego any stops on the way there. So I suggest you go pack your things,"
"I never unpacked them," Hikari interrupted, hoping to avoid a lecture on how her kimono's should be placed in the trunks.
With a very quiet growl he continued, "pack your things and we shall leave at sundown." He stared at her for a moment, Hikari wondered if he was trying to decide whether or not to punish her, "you are dismissed."
Hikair stood and nodded to her father before leaving the room, not even bothering to bow at the door before she exited. She was fed up with it all and figured if her life was going into the chamber pot she might as well not bother with everyone and their precious rules and traditions.
So muttering curses aloud and in her head she did not notice when she walked straight into "that youkai".
"My, my, what language from a Lady!" He exclaimed in amusement. Not bothering to move out of her path when she gave him a tired and annoyed look.
Hikari moved around him and gave him a not so quiet "go to hell" before continuing on her way to her rooms while he stared after her in shock.
Flopping out on her bed she turned her head and looked over at her trunks that still sat in the corner. She had told the servants not to unpack it for her so there it still sat. Her gaze drifted to her balcony doors. She laid there staring at them for a long while, her mind drifting.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hikari sat on the railing of the balcony attached to Lord Sesshoumaru's private library, her legs dangling over the edge. The cold air and falling snow did not bother her beyond a mild shiver. The temperature had dropped a considerable amount overnight and the sun had yet to rise, although small beams of light could be seen peaking through breaks in the clouds just over the horizon.
"It is a little cold for you to be sitting out here."
She smiled up at the sky, letting the snowflakes fall on her face, "I like the cold my Lord, it is refreshing."
"Hn." He came up next to her, brushing away some snow from the railing before leaning over and resting his forearms on it.
"It's a beautiful view." Hikari attempted to start some sort of conversation, though she had learned he wasn't much for chatter, especially in the early mornings.
"Hn."
"Do you ever bring Rin up here?" She turned and looked at him after a moment when he did not answer. "Lord Sesshoumaru?"
He did not answer her or even acknowledge her question, he merely continued to stare into the distance, watching the soft glow of the sun through the clouds as it rose.
Hikari soon forgot her question as she watched as well. The glow through the clouds put a soft light over the countryside as it came up over the hill. Everything covered in snow took on a slightly golden hue that was so soft a human eye would miss it altogether. Although the cold remained as the clouds prevented the suns' warmth from coming through.
"No one has been up here other than this Sesshoumaru since the death of my father. These rooms were a place for the royal family to spend time together alone without the servants or visiting Lords and Ladies listening in. As you've probably noticed there are no servant corridors behind these stone walls, if they come to clean they must come up the stairs like everybody else. It ensures privacy."
Hikari smiled brightly at him, "I appreciate the honor of being allowed up here very much then."
"Hn."
Hikari laughed out loud, even though it wasn't really all that funny, it's just his monosyllabic answers got so irritating that one either had to get angry or laugh, and she chose the latter. She spun around and slid off of the railing. Then stretched before jumping up onto the railing so she was standing on it. It wasn't all that far down, they were only three levels up.
"I think I shall go for a little run. Care to join me Lord Sesshoumaru?"
He gave her a raised eyebrow and straightened his back slightly.
Hikari shrugged, "suit yourself my Lord." She jumped down and took off along the snow
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hikari got up and walked over to her door, calling over a nearby guard. "If my father asks for me let him know I have gone for a little walk and will be back before sundown."
She did not bother to get an answer from him as she bolted to her balcony and ran out into the fresh air. The air blowing her hair about her as she easily jumped over the walls surrounding her home. Following the small river she came to a clearing with the small waterfall she often came to when she was younger. It had been her mothers' favourite place to go and after she died her brother had often brought her here whenever he was home.
Hikari smiled as she looked out along the river and to the far edge of the small clearing, "hello brother."
*************
Hikari yawned and looked out the carriage window, they were almost at their destination and she was starting to feel a good deal of dread. Which was understandable seeing as the last time she spoke to and saw Lord Sesshoumaru was that evening when she had slapped him. He had not said anything to her or her father about it and had even seemed to avoid them the morning after.
But as the western castle of Lord Sesshoumaru came into view the next morning she was relieved to find that the only one there to greet them was the toad Jakken who escorted them to their rooms. "That youkai" was thankfully placed far away nearly on the other side of the castle, which Hikari was more than overjoyed about. By the time he made it to her room in the evenings she will have already sensed him and made her escape... perhaps to Rins' room or the private library if Lord Sesshoumaru wasn't up there. Rin did enjoy having a 'slumber party', as her beloved Kagome-chan called it, Rin had once told her.
The announcement and ceremony wasn't for another two days so those two days she spent with Rin in the gardens and was introduced to the Shikon Miko known as Kagome that Rin was so fond of, who was also expecting. Hikari was surprised to learn that this rather kind and unusual miko was the mate of Lord Sesshoumaru's hanyou brother, whom she had heard rumors of but had figured most of it was exaggerated gossip.
Kagom,e she discovered, was a very easy person to be around and her aura was very soothing. Hikari spent the daytime in the company of Kagome and Rin, when the child was not at her lessons with her tutors. And of course both evenings she was invited for tea after dinner with the Miko Kagome and Lord Inuyasha, who huffed in annoyance every time he was addressed as "Lord" and Kagome had almost immediately insisted that formalities were not necessary with them when they were alone. Of course she was sure her father would have had a fit if he ever heard her addressing the family members of Lord Sesshoumaru in an informal manner.
So the evening before everything was to take place, when Hikari felt 'that youkai' approaching the hall to her room, she made the quick decision to go up to the private library where she could feel the miko's aura radiating from. Reasoning that if he did try to follow her, Kagome would easily be able to scare him away since she had told her of him when Kagome asked if she had a mate or mate-to-be that day during their lunch in the garden next to the koi pond. Needles to say, the kind-hearted miko was not impressed by his treatment of her. Hikari kind of regretted talking her out of purifying him, but if she was mated to him that meant no more suitors, something that she was infinitely tired of.
So Hikari made her way up the stairs she knew so well and turned down the hall towards the library. She could hear Kagome's gentle voice singing quietly through the door so she thought nothing of it when she pushed it open to enter.
Hikari paled when she looked into the room and realized she forgot to check and see if the miko was alone or not. She must have stood in the doorway for some time because Kagome finished her song and was looking at her with a sympathetic smile on her face.
"Hiding?"
Hikari nodded.
Kagome patted the pillows next to her, "come sit with me and I'll hide your aura with mine so he can't find you."
Turning around she closed the door and took a silent deep breath before walking past Sesshoumaru, who was staring at her in a way that made her very uncomfortable, stepping over Inuyasha's legs (who received a hair tug from Kagome for not moving them), and sat herself down next to the miko, who was still admonishing the Hanyou Lord.
Hikari laughed at the face Inuyasha made at his mate, obviously not pleased with being scolded like a pup.
"Sorry about him," Kagome said, nodding her head in his direction, "he can be such a child sometimes."
Hikari stifled her laugh, "it's alright."
"Damn wench is a pain in the ass when she's pupped. Every wench is when they're pupped, you better remember that fluff boy." Inuyasha received another rough hair tug by way of punishment.
"Hn, this Sesshoumaru will take note of that little brother. Perhaps, though, you should focus on not angering your mate." His gaze only moved to his brother as he spoke and he immediately returned to staring at Hikari after.
"Keh, that's fucking impossible," he muttered sulkily, but not quietly enough because he recieved another tug on his forelock. "Dammit wench will you stop doing that!"
"Oh we both know it doesn't hurt you," Kagome then leaned towards Hikari and whispered, "actually he really likes it when I pull on his hair in bed."
Hikari blushed slightly and giggled, watching as Inuyasha turned red as his hoari and sputtered before muttering something about annoying conniving wenches with a few more swears in between. Sesshoumaru even let out a few chuckles at his brothers suffering.
"Oh!" Kagome's hand moved to her swollen belly, "sweetie don't kick mommy so hard." She looked up at Hikari after a moment and smiled, "you want to feel? She's gonna be lively for a bit, stretching around I think after her nap." Inuyasha muttered something about it not being a girl 'this time' but Kagome seemed to ignore him.
Hikari hesitated for a moment before reaching out, letting the miko guide her hand to where the babys' feet were pressing outward. She felt the definition of a little foot press against her hand and her heart twisted painfully at the thought of the family she once could have had. She pulled her hand away and blinked back the uninvited tears that had begun to form.
"How many pups do you have?"
Kagome smiled lovingly down at her belly, "this will be the fifth, all of them girls too. The middle two are twins. We left them all with my mother, she loves to spoil her puppy-eared grandchildren so she's happy to care for them."
"Are they all Hanyou?" Hikari asked nervously.
"One is human but the other four are Hanyou, although Yuna, our youngest, doesn't look like a hanyou at all."
She nodded and gave Kagome's belly one last look of longing before standing and walking over to the balcony, opening the doors and letting the cool summer breeze waft in. Leaning against the door frame she looked up at the moon, not long after she had made herself comfortable Lord Sesshoumaru came to stand next to her.
"Do you intend to stare at me all evening?" She asked tersely after he stood next to her for a few minutes.
For a moment he did not answer, just continuing to stare with his piercing honey eyes, "perhaps... You did leave rather abruptly last time you were here, did you not deem this Sesshoumaru worthy of a farewell?"
Hikari huffed in irritation to hide how upset she still was over his rejection of her, "what do you care?" She turned and went back over to Kagome, "has he left yet? Is it safe to return to my room?"
The miko was silent for a moment and everyone in the room could feel her aura reaching out, searching. "Yes, goodnight Hikari."
Hikari couldn't seem to walk fast enough back to her guest chambers.
**************
Hikari walked briskly behind her father in her best and favourite kimono, it was a lovely dark mauve covered in white blossoms that looked to be falling. Her father stopped to pull open the doors to the great hall that was serving as the party room and dining room. The announcement of the Lords' mate, they had been told, would be given in the throne room, seeing as the ceremony would be done immediately. She paused and took a deep breath before entering the room behind her father, the moment she set foot into the party the whispers started. Not that she was surprised, she would have actually been more shocked if she hadn't heard any comments on her presence. Hikari couldn't help but think that if her brother had been there he would not have stood for it at all.
"Ugh, great now we have to tolerate another hanyou, isn't one enough?"
"I can't believe someone that was as handsome as her brother was related to a filthy half-breed."
"What's she think she's doing here?"
"As if Lord Sesshoumaru would even consider mating a half-breed."
"Does she actually think she has a chance?"
"I knew her father was trying to mate her off to be rid of her, but really? Trying to dump her on Lord Sesshoumaru, the audacity!"
"I've heard most of the Lords in her fathers region have had a ride, she's no more than an elevated hoar."
Hikari kept her head down and stayed as close as possible to her father, following him around the room as he made his way to the food. She delicately picked up a piece of fish to eat and turned to once again follow her father only to find he had left her behind. Not that that was much of a surprise to her.
Standing on the tips of her toes in her red silk slippers she looked around the hall. Unfortunately do to her shorter height than most of the youkai in the room she could barely see over enough heads to spot him. Hikari suddenly felt very claustrophobic and immediately went in search of a chair to sit in until her father came to find her.
She looked around herself, watching the many youkai lords and ladies walking about. Many of them she realised were dressed much more finely than she was, but then she supposed her father didn't really care and it didn't really matter anyway, she was a hanyou and therefore no one would notice her. At least not in the way she wished to be noticed. It didn't take her long to see her mate-to-be, he wasn't far away from her but had his back facing Hikari and was talking to a group of other lords, several she realised were former suitors. Curious as to their conversation, and against her better judgement, which was screaming at her not to, she turned her one ear to them to listen.
"You aren't seriously considering mating the girl?" A tall lord with short black hair and green eyes asked.
He shrugged, "well why not? I already have an heir so any brats I have with her I can have disposed of."
"Yes... but really? A half-breed? You could do so much better."
She could hear his laugh as he answered, "yes, but how many females will give into your every whim during the late hours of the night?" She could just hear the lecherous undertone and it made her gag slightly.
"I'd have to agree, she does whatever you want, and that beautiful little behind is just perfect for mounting," answered a green-haired lord she recognised as the fifth suitor that had come to call.
The other males laughed.
"Pity she's yours now, else I would've wanted a ride or two." Some odd looking bird youkai quipped.
More laughs.
"Come for a visit after I've mated her, Have all the fun you want, she heals remarkably fast."
The bird laughed, "I just might."
Hikari felt the bile rise in her throat and flattened her ears to her head, not wanting to hear anymore as they continued to talk. She stood and swiftly headed for the door, just barely dodging the notice of her father. Heading down the halls she was uncertain as to where she should go, her father was sure to come looking for her when he noticed she was no longer in the room.
Before she realised it her feet had lead her to the hall that held the secret staircase to the Lord Sesshoumaru's private rooms. There was nobody up there that she could sense so Hikari quickly glanced around, ducked behind the tapestry and ran up the steps, breifly pausing to decide where to go and turned to go to the music room. She pushed open the door and paused, remembering the first time she had entered here, the nights she spent sleeping in the windowseat, and the early mornings she spent listening to Lord Sesshoumaru play on the many instruments or having him attept to teach her, the way he would gently put her hands back into place and offer small whispered words of encouragement, even after she once threw a small tantrum at not being able to play one of the instruments right on what felt like the millionth time. Hikari reached up and wiped away a stray tear before making her way to the wondow seat and curling up on it, sighing as she did so.
"Maybe I should have let Kagome purify him," she mused dejectedly.

Okay, that's it for now, I would have made it longer but I felt I should get at least another chapter up. Sorry for the wait!
