Chapter 5
You Took My Love
They all saw Kagome go down. InuYasha was the first one at her side. He picked her up and crushed her to him.
“Kagome…NO!” he howled.
When the others got to him, InuYasha was shaking violently in rage and fear.
“Calm down, InuYasha,” said Miroku.
“I can't, goddamn it!” the hanyou spat. “This can't keep happening!”
“She recovered last time,” said Sango. “There is no reason to believe she won't recover again.”
InuYasha growled angrily and stood up with Kagome in his arms. The others were not able to say or do anything else before he sprang away with her. Quickly, they followed, finally catching up to him by the banks of a river. InuYasha had laid Kagome down on soft grass and sat next to her, holding his head in his hands. They sat down around the two of them. Seeing how on edge he was, they decided not to speak. Anxiously, they waited to see if Kagome would wake. It took longer this time, and InuYasha was beside himself, digging his claws deeply into the ground from the tension and frustration. Slowly, Kagome started to come around.
“InuYasha?” she said, opening her eyes and turning towards him. “It happened again, didn't it?”
“Yes,” he said as he reached out a shaking hand to her.
Miroku, Sango and Shippo filled Kagome in on the details, and she listened quietly as she took InuYasha's hand and held it, squeezing it reassuringly. When everyone had finished speaking, they sat together silently for a moment, and then suddenly InuYasha jumped up.
“That's it!” he said. “I'm taking Kagome to Kaede now - I don't care how long or fast I have to run.”
“But InuYasha, Kaede's village is still two days from here, even if you travel nonstop,” said Sango.
“So what?” he said. “I can do it. You guys can travel at your own speed. I can travel faster without you.”
“You'll still need to stop,” said Miroku. “Kagome does not have your stamina and endurance.”
“So we'll stop,” he said, lifting Kagome from the ground. “Kagome can sleep on my back. I'm not sleeping until I get there.”
Kagome was too weak to argue, as he helped her on to his back and took her backpack. Miroku, Sango and Shippo realized it was futile to argue, and they watched anxiously as he sprang away.
“Will they be okay?” said Shippo, when they had disappeared from sight.
“I don't know,” said Miroku.
“We just have to hope for the best,” Sango said. “I know InuYasha will do anything to keep Kagome safe.”
InuYasha ran like a red and silver bullet flashing through the countryside. Eventually, Kagome was able to get him to take a break and they had lunch. He ate at a rapid pace and waited impatiently for Kagome to be ready to leave. It was dark when she was finally able to convince him to stop again.
“I know you are concerned about getting there as soon as possible,” she said, “but I can't continue like this. Can we rest for a little while?”
He growled in annoyance and folded his arms.
“Alright,” he said grudgingly, “but we will continue to travel through the night. I don't need sleep.”
Kagome sighed. She knew this wasn't true - she could see that the tension and the long trip at full speed were beginning to take its toll on him. But knowing how stubborn InuYasha could be, she didn't argue. Instead she hoped that maybe she could find a way to slow him down a little.
“Let's go find some firewood,” she said, standing up and reaching out to take his hand.
He let her pull him up, and they walked off the path into the woods.
Unbeknownst to them, a sly, little trickster demon had been watching them. He camouflaged his scent from the senses of the hanyou, so he would appear to be no more than a regular fox. To his chagrin, they had taken with them the interesting looking yellow sack the young woman carried. The demon worked on concealing himself close to the campsite, where he could watch and wait for his opportunity.
Kagome and InuYasha returned and made their fire. As he watched Kagome, looking obviously alright as she went about making their dinner, InuYasha let himself relax a little. Maybe he was being a little too hard on her.
They ate, and then Kagome cleaned up before coming over to him and sitting by his side. Staring into the fire, she leaned against his side and he put his arm around her.
“I'm sorry that I have been worrying you so much recently,” she said. “After Kikyo's death, making you fear for my life is the last thing I want to put you through.”
InuYasha pulled her into his lap and hugged her close. The thought of losing her gripped his heart again, and try as he might, it would not let go. To not have this warmth and sweetness in his life, her beauty, loyalty and caring ways was unthinkable. He just didn't think he could survive with out her. He shuddered and she felt it, drawing away to look him in the eye.
“You're thinking about it,” she said. “You're worrying about losing me again, aren't you? Please don't.”
“I can't help it!” he said. “I need you.”
Suddenly, he stopped talking and took a breath, a blush spreading on his face. “Kagome, I…love you.” His face burning, he buried it on her shoulder.
“It's okay,” she said soothingly, her arms going around his back and rocking him from side to side. “Everything will be alright.”
But she closed her eyes and a few tears slipped out. To hear those words from him was her heart's fondest wish. She only wished he hadn't told her at a time like this. If only it could have been under better circumstances.
Suddenly, InuYasha lifted up his head and looked at her. In the firelight, she could see need and desire reflected in his golden eyes. A soft moan escaped him as he bent to kiss her, deeply and hungrily. She met his kiss with her own passion, burying her hands in his silky mane of hair.
Unable to deny the feelings of love and desire that filled them to overflowing, they were soon out of their clothes and covering each other in desperate kisses and caresses. InuYasha laid her down on their discarded clothes, and she wrapped her legs around his waist. As they looked into each other's eyes, he slid smoothly inside her. This time, his thrusting cock started that excruciatingly, pleasurable warmth to build inside her almost immediately, and Kagome abandoned herself to it. She tossed her head from side to side, gasps and moans coming from her unheeded, and then she had a blinding orgasm, making her arch her back and shriek. As she lay there panting and coming down from her climax-induced high, InuYasha sped up his thrusts into her, and then rammed into her hard and came, a howl escaping his lips.
Around them the blue halo blazed, crackling, even bigger and brighter then before. It nearly scared the little demon watching them out of his wits. Getting back his composure quickly, he decided this was a good time to make his move. Surveying the campsite, he looked for something to steal. He spied Tessaiga lying nearby, and loosed his light whip, which was made out of his demonic energy, and wrapped it around the sword, then started to pull it towards him.
InuYasha was still coming down from his orgasm and the blue halo was just dissipating when Kagome noticed what was happening. Without thinking, her hand shot out, palm forward and a thin beam of blue light was emitted towards the sword, wrapping around it. The sword was pulled back, and the astonished little demon lost its grip on it, unable to fight the strength of her power. InuYasha came back to his senses and in shock noticed what was happening.
Tessaiga was now floating through the air at the end of the blue beam from Kagome's hand. The beam got shorter as the sword drew nearer, until he reached out his hand and grabbed it. As soon as his hand made contact with the sword, the beam disappeared. InuYasha stared down as her, and watched as Kagome's eyes glazed over and she passed out.
