Did Somebody Say That A Love Like That Won't Last
“What the hell are Tantras?” asked InuYasha, as he wolfed down the breakfast that Kaede and Kagome had made him.
“Tantras are exercises and rituals used by monks to tap into their spiritual power,” intoned Kaede.
“Hmph,” he replied. “I don't get it. What does this have to do with Kagome's problem?”
“It is my belief that when you and she have sex, you are tapping into her spiritual power,” replied Kaede. “But something is obviously wrong about how you are doing it.”
InuYasha flushed, almost choking on his mouth full of food.
“Yeah, like she would really know the right way to have sex,” he muttered under his breath.
“InuYasha,” Kagome drawled warningly, pressing her mouth in a thin line and glaring at him. “Don't be disrespectful. This is all we have to go on, so we should check it out.”
InuYasha started to growl but subsided. He had really hoped they could find a way to prevent Kagome from using her powers. They were just too dangerous for her. Better that she did not have them at all, rather than learn to tap into them correctly.
“Finish up, InuYasha,” said Kaede, “and I will take ye and Kagome to see monk Masahiro.”
InuYasha stood up, wiping his hands on his hakama. He glanced over at Kagome, who had been rolling up her sleeping bag.
“Do you feel well enough to travel again?” he asked her.
“Yes, I'll be fine,” she said, giving him a reassuring smile.
But InuYasha did not look convinced. The last time she had fallen unconscious, it had been for almost the entire night, and she still seemed pale and weak to him.
“She will be fine,” said Kaede. “I gave her one of my restorative draughts - it should keep her hale for the journey.”
This appeased InuYasha somewhat, but he still had a hard time fighting off the fear and dread of losing her to this mysterious power of hers.
Kaede checked the straps on the saddle of her horse. InuYasha scorned traveling by horse, but he was not about to carry the old miko on his back as well as Kagome. They let the old miko strap Kagome's yellow backpack to the horse, and then she mounted it as Kagome climbed on InuYasha's back.
They made their way into the mountains. The air was cool, clear and refreshing to them, and put Kagome in good spirits. Still, it seemed that she could feel tension and unease in InuYasha by the way he held her as he ran. Fleetingly, she wondered how he was going to deal with treating their problem as a spiritual matter. He had no great faith in spirituality she knew, even though one of their best friends was a monk whom they trusted with their lives. All unknowns were suspicious to him. She just hoped that he would rely on his trust and faith in her to get over his doubts.
It had been decided when they left that they would let Kaede do the talking. InuYasha and Kagome were not ready to discuss their sex life with a stranger, even if he was a holy man. Just having Kaede know the intimate details was making InuYasha uncomfortable.
They traveled all morning and then took a break for lunch. Kagome wanted to know more about Monk Masahiro.
“He has traveled extensively outside Japan,” said Kaede, “and studied with gurus in Tibet and India. Since his return to Japan, many monks seeking to gain greater spiritual power have studied with him.”
“I still don't get how he can help us,” said InuYasha testily. “How can he help us with our problem, if it is related to…you know.”
“Monk Masahiro is a master of Tantric sex,” intoned Kaede.
“What?!” exclaimed InuYasha. “Don't tell me we need another monk like Miroku
to help us.”
“Your friend Miroku's lechery is nothing like what Monk Masahiro teaches.”
InuYasha scowled and crossed his arms. Just great - now they were going to have some monk teach them how to have sex. He was beginning to wonder if coming to Kaede for help was such a great idea. He glanced at Kagome, and she looked thoughtful and curious.
`She's not really taking this seriously?' he thought. `Can she really want to let some monk meddle in our sex life?'
“Kagome, you can't seriously want to let some monk in on our business,” he said.
Kagome looked at him and sighed.
“I'm as embarrassed as you are about this,” she said softly, and InuYasha flushed. “But I am willing to get over my embarrassment if monk Masahiro can help me master my new powers.”
InuYasha growled. “I won't have anybody else touching you,” he said, flexing his claws. “Let's make that plain and clear right now.”
“Don't worry, InuYasha,” said Kaede. “Her powers are intimately linked to ye. No one else need touch Kagome.”
InuYasha relented, and relaxed slightly, but the suspicion had not totally left his eyes.
They packed up and continued their journey. By late afternoon they came to an area that had been cleared for agriculture. They passed through the fields until they came to a small house surrounded by a garden. Kaede stopped and dismounted. InuYasha let Kagome down and approached first. A monk was on his knees in the garden, working.
“Hey,” said InuYasha. “We're looking for monk Masahiro.”
Slowly the monk straightened up and turned to look at him. He regarded him indifferently, and then stood up. He was old and wizened, and barely came to InuYasha's chest.
“You have found him,” he said.
“Where,” said InuYasha, frowning.
“I am monk Masahiro,” said the monk.
InuYasha gaped. This little, dried up old monk was monk Masahiro? He reminded InuYasha of an imp, not some holy man who was an expert in Tantric sex.
Kagome and Kaede came to his side.
“Meet monk Masahiro,” InuYasha said derisively, pointing at the old monk, and shook his head before putting it in his hand. “Oh - this should be real good.”
