Chapter 5

Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha or any of the characters.

The young weary girl was dozing in her seat when a loud voice jolted her awake. Her head snapped up and she blinked her eyes rapidly. Her eyes scanned the room in search of the intrusion. Then her chocolate orbs descended upon a female that looked strangely like her. Her eyes widened in surprise when she realized who she was.

“Miss, would you mind explaining why you are late?” The teacher inquired.

“I’m terribly sorry. I ran into a little distraction on the way to school this morning.” The girl retorted smoothly. She bowed respectively and went to take her seat.

The class gawked at this girl. The girl who, only two days ago, they had seen as a bimbo they now saw as a respectful, well-reserved young woman.

Miroku quickly moved out of his seat to one nearer to the girl. He was about to make his move on her when Kagome got to her first.

“Kikyou? What the hell is up with this?” Kagome demanded.

“I don’t know what you mean, Kagome.” She replied waving her away. “Now if you don’t mind, I’m trying to learn something.” What unnerved Kagome the most was the fact that her face never seemed to change emotions.

‘What, the hell, is going on with this chick!?’ She thought mentally to herself. ‘She…Why? Why did she change? What is she up to!?’

‘Stupid girl! She doesn’t know how just the mere presence of her pisses me off! Good thing too, otherwise I’d never get to her hanyou!’

Said hanyou was sitting leisurely at his desk. He was waiting for the final class of the day to end so that he could hang out with his companions. He was debating on what he should do when a slightly familiar scent assaulted his nose. He hastily covered his poor body part and looked for the source of the smell. His foul face fell into one of awe when he saw something very out of the ordinary.

Kikyou!?” He whispered unbelievingly. She turned her head towards his voice upon hearing her name.

“Inuyasha, how very pleasant it is to see you again.” She bowed politely and took the seat next to him. She took out her notebook and daintily worked on the class warm-ups. The hanyou, who still hadn’t gotten over his shock, didn’t even respond when his best friend greeted him.

“Inuyasha!” Kagome frowned when she saw him gazing at the girl next to him, whom she hated. “…Inuyasha? Hello?”

“Huh? Wha’?” The boy shook his head vigorously and blinked his eyes at the new arrival. “Oh…Hey Kagome!” He swiftly drew out his work, not meeting her gaze. He failed to notice the look of confusion and pain in her shining orbs. She sat down across from him and dully began her work.

The next day people still weren’t over the initial shock of Kikyou’s sudden change. Not to say that they didn’t prefer this side of her. Inuyasha seemed to have forgotten all about the annoying, infatuated girl that Kikyou had been and was slowly becoming completely obsessed with the new her. Kagome was getting inflamed with the lack of attention her best friend was showing towards her. He had hung out with his three friends after school, but they could all tell that they didn’t have his full attention.

“Kikyou? Would you like to come to a party at my house at nine tonight?” The hanyou asked in hopes of getting to spend more time with the girl who had snagged his attention.

Kagome had invited all of the people at her school that she deemed worth knowing. As well as told them to bring their siblings for her little brother to hang out with.

Shippou, Miroku, Sango, and Kohaku arrived first.

Kagome greeted the four cheerfully, and politely thanked Miroku for inviting his foster brother to come along.

The adorable Shippou was wearing a robins blue shirt with little white leaves on it with an orange tinted brown vest and puffy dark blue pants. She thought it was adorable how his long orange hair was in a little blue bow and how silky his tail was. She immediately picked him up and cooed over his cuteness, receiving a slight blush from the little kitsune.

“Kagome! Stop it, you’re embarrassing me!” The young boy giggled softly.

“Oh, okay Shippou. I suppose I’ll let you go until next time!” She replied laughing. “Souta is out in the backyard.” The kitsune swiftly jumped out of the miko’s arms and ran to find the boy she mentioned. She watched as Kohaku in his blue ensemble ran after the little kitsune to join him in playing with Souta. The miko laughed and turned her attention to her two friends.

Miroku was wearing a purple wife-beater and jeans. He had his hair styled as usual and was eyeing Sango perversely.

Sango was wearing a snug black long sleeved shirt, with hot pink at the shoulders, elbows, wrist and stomach. She was wearing matching black and hot pink pants and shoes. She had her long, sable hair up in a high ponytail and was standing a great distance away from the obstinate boy next to her.

“Hey guys, go on into the living room…I do believe that Inuyasha put out the drinks and stuff…I don’t know….He’s been in too much of a daze to pay attention to anything I say.” The two could see the infuriation in the miko’s eyes when she mentioned her best friend. The scooted away slowly until they were out of her line of sight, and then made a break for it.

Not too long after they had arrived, more people began to come.

Kouga, Ayame and Rin showed up followed by Hojo, Yuka, Eri, and Ayumi. Kagome greeted her friends and moved them towards the living room.

Kouga was wearing a silver and black shirt with dark brown pants. He had his long black hair up and a brown headband around his head. ‘It might sound girly for his hair to be like that…But I think it suits him very well.’

Ayame was wearing a pink and black tank top with a white skirt, a white shawl/cape, and white boots. She had her long, auburn hair in pigtails and was smiling brightly at Kagome.

Rin was wearing a white and orange checked dress with a green sash tied around her middle. She had a tiny portion of her hair at the top tied in an orange ribbon and she was barefoot for some odd reason. Kagome was about to question who she was when she was told that she was Kouga’s neighbour and Souta had asked him to give her a ride there.

Hojo was wearing a navy blue, long sleeved shirt and jeans. He smiled shyly at Kagome as she greeted the group of friends.

Yuka was wearing a white tank top and a short green skirt. ‘She looks cute with her short, brown hair!’

Eri was wearing a red, short sleeved shirt and jeans. She had a red headband in her hair to keep her hair out of her eyes. She grinned at Kagome and hugged her.

Ayumi was wearing black capris and a blue tank top. Her shoulder length brown hair was wavy and she looked beautiful.

After she looked them over she heard the doorbell. She was wondering who it could be, fore she didn’t invite anyone else, when Inuyasha showed up out of nowhere and ran to answer the door. She looked bewildered and followed silently.

“Kikyou! I’m so glad you accepted my invite!” The hanyou’s voice crooned.

“Why of course, Inuyasha. I hope you don’t mind that I brought some friends along with me." She bowed and swept her hand towards the group of people behind her.

“Oh of course not! Come on in everyone, and the little girl can go play with the other kids outside.”

From where Kagome was standing, she could see that the stupid hanyou of a best friend had invited Kikyou, Kagura, Kanna, and Naraku. She glowered and stormed back to her friends. ‘That fucking asshole! I wanted an awesome night to relax and have fun and he had to go and invite that stupid bitch and her friends!’ She swept her gaze across the room looking for the drinks the boys were supposed to bring and her eyes widened in alarm when she saw what they had brought. ‘I told him not to disappoint me…and he does it twice in less than ten minutes…’ She sighed exasperated and walked over to the tables. She winced at what she saw. A table full of alcohol! ‘I should have known those idiotic brainless boys would have done something like this.’ She hesitantly picked up one of the drinks and sipped from it. Her face showed a look of disgust and she set the drink back down. ‘I may be desperate to feel better…but not that desperate!’ She sat down and hugged her legs to her chest.

From across the room Kouga smelled the scent of her tears coming and was by her side in an instant. She sniffled and forced a smile for him. He wrapped an arm around her shoulders, which she didn’t object to.

“Kagome,” He whispered softly in her ear, “Who could possibly be so horrible to make such a beautiful girl like you shed even a single tear?” He lifted her chin with his finger so he could look into her lovely chocolate orbs. She whispered the wrongdoer's name so softly that the man in front of her almost didn’t hear it, even with his demonic hearing. He looked deep into her eyes and slowly brought his face closer to hers. She closed her eyes and prepared for his lips to meet hers.

Unbeknownst to the two, someone else had seen the whole scene. His amber gaze burned into the man attempting to steal his innocent best friend’s first kiss.

While Kagome was out having ‘fun’, her mother was at home having ‘fun’ of her own.

Ms. Higurashi had let her mask fall while her children were absent. She was staring at invoices and statements in her hands. On almost every one of the dreaded bills were bright red wording telling her she had one last chance to pay over thousands of dollars in a mere two days. She sighed and dropped her face in her hands. ‘I don’t know how I’m going to break this to the kids…We have no money, no house, and will have very few possessions after the two days are up. They’re going to take my kids away from me! What am I going to do!?’ She silently sobbed in her hands, finally letting everything out.

The truth is, Ms. Higurashi had been dealing with a money problem since her husband had passed away. She barely made it by, even with the help from her father. Now, everything had gotten completely out of hand. She had lost control of everything, even her emotions. The tight reign she had held for over half a decade had finally broken and everything came pouring out at once.

“Why did you have to leave!?” She wailed, and more tears poured out.

A loud growling could be heard throughout the room. A dead silence followed. The growl came once again, louder, and closer to the two on the floor. The young miko’s eyes shot open and looked in agitation towards the sound of the noise. The wolf demon in front of her turned towards the hanyou and snarled at him.

“What the hell is your problem dog shit!? You’re the one who made this beautiful girl cry in the first place!” Kouga stood up and walked to meet face-to-face with him. The hanyou looked perplexed. His growling stopped and hurt could be seen in his eyes. ‘I made my best friend cry? I wasn’t there to make it better either…’ He turned towards Kagome to apologize when he saw the look of anger on her face.

“…Kagome?”

“Inuyasha! I can’t believe you!” She yelled. “You ruin the party I came up with, you ignore me for two days, become infatuated with someone who we hate, and then have the nerve to keep me from kissing Kouga!?” She screamed and stormed out of the room, with the hanyou following at her heels.

“Kagome! I’m sorry! Please, wait!” He pleaded behind her.

“No Inuyasha!” More tears leaked out of her eyes. She found the room she was searching for and pushed her way passed the door, attempted and failed to slam it behind her. Inuyasha blocked her from shutting him out. He made his way over to her and pulled her sobbing form into his arms.

“Kagome, damn it! You know I can’t stand it to see you cry! Especially if I’m the one who caused it!” He allowed her to sob on his shoulder.

“I know…It’s just…You can’t ignore me…I’m your best friend…We’re supposed to be…better than that!”

“I know…It’s just…I don’t know…I’m sorry! Please stop crying!” She shook her head and sobbed until she exhausted herself and drifted off to sleep.

‘Stupid wench!’ He looked around the room she had barged into. It was her favorite guest room. The one she stayed in whenever she had to stay the night there. He couldn’t think of why this particular one was her favorite. It was simple with dark purple walls and gold, blue, and purple adorning everything. There was nothing spectacular about it. He shrugged and gathered her up bridal style. He laid her down and pulled the covers over her. ‘Stupid girl. But I guess that’s why you’re my best friend…I don’t know what you would do if it weren’t for me.’ He smirked and went out to find Kikyou…

Just as he was about to pursue the girl in question he had a horrible gut feeling in his stomach. He locked the door to the room in which Kagome lay, before heading down to the still ongoing party.

Wow…That one probably really sucked…but I hit a speed bump. When I finally made it over the speed bump I ran straight into a brick wall, after the previous chapter and didn’t know what to say….Please review! Thank you!
