Be Yourself?

They sat in silence for awhile. After the whole jealous fit Kagome had, she was feeling a little embarrassed, and awkward. It wasn't like her to act jealous like that! She glanced up at Inuyasha who seemed to be equally as awkward. Something about him made her want to smile. There was such a shyness to him…

"So, what would like to eat?" He finally asked, breaking the silence. She looked up at him.

"Uh…" she stared up at the menu above the counter. "How about some French fries?" She asked. He nodded. "To drink?" He asked, before walking up to order. "I'll have a Coca Cola." She replied. He went up to get her a large fry. Truth was she wanted more than that, but she didn't want to look like a pig!

She waited patiently at the table, tapping her fingers on her lap. 'Inuyasha certainly is cute.' She told herself. 'There's only one problem…' She gazed at him, as he ordered. He seemed to know the boy that was working, because they were joking and laughing, and Kagome saw them looking back at her.

She turned quickly, and blushed when they did.

'He seems to act really awkward and shy with me…' She realized. 'That's what it is.'

For some reason Kagome didn't like the fact that he seemed so nervous around her. She had known the hanyou since the second grade! She wanted him to feel comfortable around her. She wanted to joke around with him like that boy was. She wanted him to carry her bag in the hall, she wanted-

"Hey!" Her thoughts were interrupted by Inuyasha's voice. She looked up at him, and blushed. 'Did I really think all of that?' She asked herself, in shock. Why was his friendship so important to her? "Hi." She said with a heart-melting smile.

He sat by her. "Here are your fries." He offered. She looked down at the large box of fries in front of her, and he handed her a cold drink. "Th-Thank you." She said, shyly. She pecked at a couple of fries as they sat in silence.

"So, did you know that guy?" She asked, motioning at the boy at the register.

He looked at her in shock. "Well, don't you?" He asked, with wide eyes. She shook her head no. "Why? should I?" She wondered. He shrugged. "It's just that…everybody knows who my brother is! He graduated last year." She still wore a blank face.

"He's your brother?" She asked, noticing the resemblance. Both of them had long silver hair, and gleaming honey eyes. His brother looked more like a full demon, though. He had demon markings on his face, and elf like ears.

Inuyasha began to tell her about Sesshomaru, and what a 'stiff' he was. She laughed at his stories, and listened with interest. Before she knew it, she was done with her fries. She looked disappointed when Inuyasha asked if she was ready to go home. She nodded slightly, and they walked off to the car.

He opened the door for her once again, and she slipped into the passenger's seat. '…and what a gentleman!' She told herself. She stopped herself from thinking. Her thoughts kept taking her places she didn't want to be. The feelings were easy to ignore however.

Kagome gave Inuyasha directions to her house, and he got there within ten minutes. She slipped out of the car. 'How the hell am I supposed to make him comfortable around me?' She wondered. '…maybe if I were comfortable around him…' She remembered that her family was out until 5:00 that night.

"Inuyasha?" She wondered aloud, "Would you like to come it? We can talk…if you want. I have old school yearbooks we could look at." He stared at her with such a shocked expression. She looked away, and blushed.

'He must really think I'm a freak!' She told herself.

"Are you sure you wouldn't mine?" He asked, suddenly. She smiled up at him. "Of course not!" She squealed.

She led him into her house, and he followed close behind. They stood in her living room for awhile. Should she take him to her room? No. Her mother would kill her! She motioned for him to take a seat on the couch, and she ran to get her yearbooks from her bedroom.

She finally found them in her closet, and stormed downstairs. "I need to get him something to eat!" She realized aloud, searching through the cupboards in the kitchen.

She finally found some bread, and some things in the fridge to make her famous sandwiches. They were a hit at her annual sleepovers!

When she made six, she placed them decoratively on a dish, and entered the living room. She giggled when she saw Inuyasha playing with her cat, Bouyo. He jumped up, startled that she was there. "I see you've met Bouyo?" She laughed, handing him the pile of yearbooks.

He grinned nervously at her, and nodded. "Nice cat." He said, as he flipped through the pages. She held the plate out to him, offering him a sandwich. He stared at them for a minute, but hesitantly took one from the plate.

"It's my secret recipe!" She beamed, as he took a bite.

"Uh…it's…good." He said, as he swallowed it. He put it on his plate, and continued to flip through the pages. He finally found his third grade picture. There he was, with Miroku. They were on the swings. He let a small grin tug at his lips.

She looked at the picture, and giggled. "Is that the boy you're always with?" She asked, pointing at Miroku. He nodded. "That's Miroku." He told her. "He can be really annoying, obnoxious, perverted, stupid, and pretty idiotic at times." He explained, "but…he's a good guy at heart."

She looked at his face. There was a happy expression on it, though he wasn't smiling anymore. He still looked happy. She felt like it was the first time he was being real around her. He laughed. "There you are with Sango!" He pointed out.

She laughed. "Yeah! Good old Sango!" She said, with a small giggle.

"I remember you two were always with each other." He started to say, "You guys used to sit on the swing sets all recess and just talk. Then again, sometimes you guys played-" He stopped himself. 'I'm a complete idiot!' He told himself, 'Now she knows that I've been her stalker since the second grade!'

He wanted to kick his own ass for being so stupid. He looked up at Kagome who was completely red. She stared down at her lap, a small, nervous smile on her face. "I can't believe you remember that!" She finally blurted. It was his turn to blush. "W-Well I-" He didn't know what to say.

Inuyasha's face turned ten shades of red. 'What do I tell her?' Finally he came up with a good lie. "I'm half demon." He explained, suddenly. "We have better memories." She looked a little disappointed. "Oh." Was all she said.

"Inuyasha?" She asked. "Hm?" He asked, as he flipped through some of the pages. She had to do something… she wanted him to be comfortable around her. She wanted him to open up! She had to do something…

Kagome looked at him, and smiled evilly. "W-What?!" He asked, nervously, "Why are you staring?"

She suddenly did something that neither of them would expect. She leaned over, and grabbed his ears in each hand.

His face turned pale. "Kagome what are you-" He burst out laughing. She was rubbing the back of his ears with the tips of her fingers.

"S-Stop!" He laughed out, "That t-tickles!" She didn't stop. She started laughing, too, and continued the torture.

She began stroking the tips of his ears with her thumb, in the same motion as her fingers. "Ka-Kagome!" He laughed out, falling on his back. She landed on top of him, but continued to stroke his ears.

He fought to get her off, but she was determined. Finally he placed both of his hands on her ribs, and began tickling her. She burst out laughing, and took her hands off his ears in order to pull his hands off of her.

"Hey!" She cried, "Ch-Cheater!!" They struggled for awhile, tickling each other and laughing.

Suddenly, Inuyasha fell off the couch, and landed on his back, on the floor. Kagome fell right after him, landing face down on top of him.

They were both laughing now, and didn't seem to realize the position they were in until the laughter died out.

Kagome stared down at him. Into those golden honey eyes. He stared right back. Gazing into her eyes. They didn't even seem to move for a while. Kagome snapped out of it when she felt Inuyasha's hands going through her hair.

"Eep!" She sat up, and blushed. He just laughed. "What was that for?" He asked, sitting up. He was even a little shade of pink.

She smiled shyly, and shrugged. "I just want to…be your friend." She said. It seemed like she was telling herself more than anyone. 'Nothing more. Nothing more. Nothing more!' She repeated in her head.

"You are my friend." He told her, confused. She shook her head no. "You act different with me." She blurted out. "You're too…too polite!"

He smiled. "Is that so…?" With that he lunged out and began tickling her again. "Inu-" She laughed out, "Inuyasha!" She managed to pry his hands off her. It was a good thing his claws weren't out! "I'm serious!" she told him, firmly, controlling her laughter.

He grinned. "Well, I'm sorry!" He said, defensively, "I'll try to be rude, okay?" She crawled back onto the couch. "You don't like my sandwiches do you?" She asked, pouting a little. "N-No! I love your-" She silenced him with her hand.

"That's what I mean!" She giggled, "You obviously don't, but you're telling me you do!" He sat on the couch next to her. "So you want me to act myself?" He asked. She nodded. "Exactly!"

"Okay, Okay!" He agreed. "As long as you act yourself." She agreed, and they made a pact.

They looked at the yearbooks for awhile, and got in one more tickle fit. Finally, when Kagome's family got home, Inuyasha decided to leave. She gave him, a quick hug goodbye. "Thanks for coming!" She said, wrapping her arms around him. He patted her back. "Yeah, yeah!" Finally he left.

'Nothing more!' Kagome told herself one last time as she watched him drive away. Though her pulse was telling her otherwise.

Okay, I made this chapter extra long. I had to make them on a good friendship level, ya know. Also forgive me about the Sesshy thing, but I had to give him a job! I know it's not very likely; Sesshomaru working at Burger King, but it would be funny as hell! Don't kill me, okay?
