Chapter 3

Kagome woke in the middle of the night breathing fast. She got up and headed towards the woods away from the eastern lands palace. She came across a little stream so she sat on her knees and ran her fingers through the running water. She giggled as a little fish tickled one of her fingers then swam away. Kagome threw a handful of water in her face to wake her up, and then wrapped her tail around her waist and over her shoulder. She stood then walked back to her room. An idea had popped into her head. She looked around for pencil and paper. As she walked out, she left a note for her parents. Kagome walked until it was morning, and then stopped at a little clearing in the woods. She unwrapped her tail and made it into the form of a bed. She leaned against a tree with her head on her tail and tried to fall asleep. The last thing she did was put up a barrier so she wouldn’t be injured while she slept.

Morning broke over the top of the eastern lands palace. Lady Yuka moved swiftly towards Kagome’s room, worried sick that something was wrong with her. She opened the door to Kagome’s room and stepped in. She found that the room had no one in it but her. She saw a paper with writing on it so she went to the end table and picked up the note.

Mother and Father,

Do not worry of my whereabouts. I needed time to myself, to think about past actions. I will return soon. Please do not send anyone after me.

Higurashi Kagome

Lady Yuka shrugged as she walked out. ‘As long as she comes back, I’m happy.’ She thought as she made her way out of the room.

Kagome woke at mid day to find a pair of golden eyes staring at her. “Inuyasha, I thought I made it clear that we shouldn’t see each other anymore.” She said as she closed her eyes to get up. When Kagome stood and opened her eyes, she realized it wasn’t Inuyasha but another demon.

“Who are you demon and why are you here?” she asked now prepared. The demon shook his head.

“Karas, I guess the rumors were true. You have lost your memories.” He spoke. Kagome heard a bit of hurt and sadness but still narrowed her eyes in disbelief.

“I have asked repeatedly for everyone to call me Kagome. Now who are you?” She said rather forcefully.

“I am Lord Sesshomaru of the Western Lands. I am of the White Inu clan.” He said as he introduced himself.

“And why are you here Lord Sesshomaru?” she asked again.

“I saw you sleeping here while I was heading back to my homeland. I am merely wondering why you are here when you should be at the palace.” He explained.

“I have unfinished business back in the south.” She told him. Kagome got up and started walking to the south. She stopped when she heard someone following her. She looked back to find the Inu Lord right behind her. She felt her anger boil inside of her as she spoke.

“Something you want?”

“No.”

“Then give me space and walk the other direction.” She told him. He glared at her then turned and walked away. Kagome continued her quest until she finally reached her destination. She jumped up into the branches of Goshinokbu until she got to the top. She settled on a branch and wrapped her tail around her because of the cold. She looked up at the stars and started thinking.

‘What do I have to do to get Inuyasha to love me?’ she thought as she bowed her head. Kagome suddenly felt a stream of air go by and realized that it was an arrow. She looked towards the ground and saw a miko in red and white robes. She jumped and landed on her feet, then realized that the miko was Kikyo.

“What do you want Kikyo?” she asked.

“I’m not going to let you take Inuyasha away from me. I will do anything to have him and if that means eliminating the competition, then so be it.” She watched Kikyo knock and arrow and draw back but didn’t fire.

“Kikyo, I’m going to be completely honest with you. Here’s the way it’s going to work. How about you put away your bow and arrows and let me tell you my terms.” She said as she stood there emotionless. Kikyo saw that she wasn’t fooling around and considered the thought. She lowered her bow but did not set it down.

“How do I know that you won’t kill me after I am unarmed?” she asked. Kagome rolled her eyes.

“I don’t have any interest in killing you and I don’t attack unless they are armed and trying to kill me. Now will you or will you not listen to what I have to say?” she asked losing her patience. Kikyo nodded her head and she set her bow and arrows down. Kagome sighed as she spoke.

“That’s better. Here’s the deal. You can have Inuyasha. Do what you want with him. I don’t care. He has definitely taken an interest in you, under one condition. You can’t put him under any of your spells or use any of your miko powers on him to force him to love you. Why have spells when you can use your mouth? As I recall you are quite good with your mouth.” Kikyo made a blush but narrowed her eyes.

“What do you wish in return?” she asked.
”Not to put any spells on Inuyasha to make him love you and stay clear of my way unless I need you which would be every once in a while, so you shouldn’t complain.” Kagome answered.

“You said I could do whatever I want with him?” she said.

“Yes, even drag him to hell with you. He obviously loves you and won’t give you up to anyone.” Kagome answered again.

Kikyo smiled and said, “You have yourself a deal.” Kagome nodded then jumped back into the tree to her original estate. She watched Kikyo leave with a smirk on her face.

‘That bitch still creeps me out.’ Kagome thought. Her eyes felt a little heavy as she tried to keep gazing at the stars but soon gave in to the battle with sleep.

“Hey Kagome, wake up already!!” Kagome squinted her eyes as the sun blocked her vision. She then saw Inuyasha in front of her in Goshinokbu’s branches.

She glared at him and yelled, “What the hell are you doing here? I thought I made it clear that I don’t wanna see you again!!” she heard him growl.

“Hey, I only saw you up here and I just came up to check on ya!” he yelled back.

“Last time I checked I was your jewel detector now you’re my babysitter. I don’t need you to ‘check up’ on me!!!” she scolded. ‘He is getting on my nerves!’

While Inuyasha was in mid sentence, Kagome pushed him out of the tree then leaned back to relax. Inuyasha landed on the ground with a thud. “Last tim I checked this was my….” He was cut off as Kagome sat him. When the effects wore off, Inuyasha made a scowling face at her.

“Why don’t you go fuck your clay pot!!!” she yelled to him. Inuyasha made another growl then dashed off. Kagome thought about her dream of Midoriko.

Kagome’s Dream

“To what do I owe for this great honor, Priestess Midoriko?” Kagome asked. Midoriko appeared from the shadows of the trees.

“Kagome, what is this conflict between you and Inuyasha?” she asked. Kagome narrowed her eyes. ‘The sound of his name even insults me.’ She thought.

“There is no conflict.” She answered.

“That’s not what I saw.” Midoriko stated as she held up a ball of light to show Kagome her last fight with the hanyou. Kagome looked away in defeat. ‘She got me! Wait! Why is she here anyway? Definitely not to talk about the problems that I’m having with Inuyasha.’ She thought

“Why are you here?”

“I have come to offer you a proposition. Interested?”

“Hmmm, depends. What’s in it for me?”

“I am willing to five you all of my powers if you keep the jewel safe and to be it’s guardian until your time on Earth ends.” Midoriko offered.

“Priestess, I was already going to be it’s guardian Why do you wish to give me your powers?” Kagome asked.

“To fulfill you wish.” She answered as she raised another ball of light replaying Kagome’s wish. Kagome sat down with wide eyes. “Kagome, what is the real reason that you two are feuding?” Midoriko asked as she placed a hand on her shoulder.

“I caught him rutting two other girls. Who am I kidding? I’m just his shard detector. I fell in love with Inuyasha, but, I am praying to Kami not to love him anymore. I don’t want to love him anymore.” Kagome explained.

“There’s where you are wrong. Inuyasha is not from your time period. He is also half demon. He doesn’t know any better. You did not set a claim on him, so, he was doing that out of his nature. You should just forgive him.” She explained to Kagome.

“It’s too late for that now. I’m almost done fighting off my feelings for him. I’m done with Inuyasha.” Kagome had told her.

“I will still give you my powers, Kagome. You might find them useful. You can use my powers to go forward and backwards in time. Now, I will leave you. Quickly take my powers and go!” Midoriko grabbed Kagome’s arms and brought her mouth and inch away from Kagome’s. She opened her mouth to let a flowing mixture of green and blue light. The light found its way into Kagome and quickly rushed inside. As soon as the energy quit flowing, Midoriko fell to the ground.

“Kagome, you may do what ever you please. You can even make a portal from here to hell but only for a certain amount of time. Good bye Kagome and good luck.” She watched Midoriko fade into a white light that quickly zoomed its way into the sky. Kagome just stared at the sky and watched the light fade from view.

End of Dream

Kagome thought about Midoriko’s wise words. “Nahh. It was only a dream.” She said to herself. She leapt down from the branch and landed in front of Goshinokbu’s trunk. She turned around and saw the bark had still refused to grow back. She smiled as she remembered the first time she saw Inuyasha pinned to the tree. Kagome put her hand on the bald spot to feel the softness of the wood.

“Jeez! How long are you going to be watching me from up there? It’s very annoying!” she said a loud.

“You don’t have to get all cranky on me!!” Inuyasha said out of nowhere. “I was just wondering what you were doing. That’s all!!” heat and anger started to boil in her head. She suddenly saw her hands glow red.

“Inuyasha, just leave.” She said through her teeth.

“You won’t even tell me what’s wrong?” Inuyasha continued.

“Inuyasha, please, just leave.” She said as the glow began to grow. Inuyasha still proceeded to walk forward, not paying attention to her warnings.

“Inuyasha, GET AWAY FROM ME!!!!” she yelled as her body became shrouded with a black outlining. Her eyes became black as she flicked her wrist and a swarm of knives came flying at Inuyasha. Luckily, he moved out of the way without a scratch.

“Hey! What’s your problem? I try apologizing and it seems that doesn’t make you happy. Nothing in this world will make you happy.” He stated.

“Look Inuyasha, I don’t want to be around you anymore than I want to be your jewel detector. Let’s face the facts; you’re just putting up with me only because you have that stupid submission necklace on. I guarantee that if you didn’t have that thing on, you would have killed me and taken the jewel for your self!” she yelled. “As a matter of fact,” Kagome muttered a little spell, and then looked at Inuyasha. “Now you can kill me! Take the jewel and use it for yourself. Can’t say I won’t put up a fight though.” She said. There was a blue glow from the rosary beads but quickly faded. Inuyasha watched the necklace fall into individual harmless beads but still stood his ground and never moved.

“Come on! What are you waiting for! You can fulfill you future. This is what you wanted!” she yelled as she walked toward Inuyasha. He kept staring wide eyed at the beads. Kagome was right in front of him now.

“Is this not what you waned? You wanted them off and I took them off. You wanted to hunt for the shards and we did. Now you want the jewel so take it. I’m waiting.” She said quietly. Inuyasha never said a word nor did he move, not one finger. Kagome was now on her last nerve so she punched him in his jaw and watched him fly back on the ground, lying on his back. She quickly got on top of him and started to punch him, crying with each punch.

“You stupid, selfish, miserable, hanyou. You have the chance to take that rock away from me! Why are you not taking that chance?!?!?” Kagome finally stopped what she was doing to Inuyasha and realized what she had done. He had a swollen, black and blue eye, a bloody nose and welts all over his face.

Inuyasha looked up at her and said “You always hurt the ones you love.” Kagome quickly got up and ran away. “Kagome, wait!” Inuyasha called after her, but she didn’t listen. All he heard from her was, “You’ll be better off with Kikyo!”
