Chapter 3: Search for a Crew

I ran up to the habor and looked around. There were people everywhere and there were all different kinds of ships. There was small and big, war and merchant, wide and long.. to many to say! But as I started walking onto the dock someone stepped in front of me. "Sorry, little miss, but little girls aren't aloud on the dock," he said. He was bald and wearing brown pants that went to his knees with black boots, a white shirt that was hanging out. He also had an earring on the the top of his ear.

"I am not little," I stated plainly. "I am fourteen."

"You're still too little to be on the docks," he said. "Now go run along like a good little girl." He walked away. I was about to yell back at him when a hand on my shoulder stopped me.

"Don't mind him." It was a young girl like myself. She had long black hair pulled loosly in a white ribbon and was wearing black slacks with black boots, and a black shirt with pink ruffles sticking out a the collar. "I sneak in all the time." She looked at me with me with crimson red eyes. "My name's Sango."

"I'm Kagome, but you can just call me Kag," I said, smiling at her. She smiling back.

"So, you're new here?"

"How can you tell?" I said.

"Cause the way you acted towards him," she said.

"Oh," I said. "So, are you here by yourself, too?"

"Well... yeah." Pause. "Come to my place." She grabbed my hand and started pulling me away. We went past some buildings, then onto the beach. We walked near the bottom of a cliff and into a small cave opening. We walked through for a few seconds, than it opened up into a large cavern. There were five tables, each had four chairs. Old curtains hanging on the walls and light pink ship sails hanging in the far back where there was a type of stage. No one sat at the tables. "Welcome to my home."

"Its so...so..." I struggled to find a word. "Oh! I can't think of a word. But, do you live here alone?"

"Well, yeah. I found it when I ran away from the ophanage. I found the tables around, curtains thrown out, and then I stole the sails. They were white, but I died them pink. It's my favorite color," Sango said. She walked over one of the tables. "I've only been here for about a week, but it seems longer."

"Heh, so I guess you haven't had much fun?" I said. She looked at me confused. "It's said that time goes by faster when your having fun."

"Oh," she said. "No, I guess I haven't. But, you can stay here if you want."

"Only if it's okay with you. Though I plan to go out to sea." Sango looked up.

"What? You do?" Nod. "Really?" Nod. "Truly?"

"Yes!" I sat next to her. "I have always wanted to be on a ship, ever since I was a little girl. Is that so surprising?"

"No! Of course not!" she said quickly. "I have to. So, how bout it?"

"How bout what?"

"You and me. Captains, and we find ourselves a crew." she said excitedly.

"Really?" Nod. "Oh yeah! As long as the whole crew are girls."

"Why?" she asked.

"Cause I can't sand the lot of them!" We laughed.

"You have a point. But is that really all?"

"Well, no. To go out on the sea with a crew of independent women would be the best ever."

"Your right."

"Okay than. Tomorrow we go and find us a crew." We smiled than went to sleep.

~*~*~*~* Next Morning, around Sunrise *~*~*~*~

As we walked to town I hummed a little song my mother had sang to me when I was a baby. We were walking alot slower than the night before cause it was still early. "What are ya humming?" Sango suddenly asked. I looked at her and smiled sadly.

"A song my mother would sing to me when I was little. She said her mother had sang it to her because of her lost love. I memerized it then. It just seemed so sweet. My mother sang it to me as a lullaby to get me to sleep. Ever since I sang it at random times," I said, looking back at the ground, watching as our feet picked up sand.
"Oh," I heard Sango say. "Will you sing it to me?"

"Sure," I said, smiling.

"I'm so tired of being here
suppressed by all my childish fears
and if you have to leave
I wish you would just leave
because your presence still lingers here
and it won't leave me alone

"These wounds won't seem to heal
this pain is just too real
there's just too much that time cannot erase
"When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears
when you'd scream I'd fight away all of your fears
and I've held your hand through all of these years
but you still have all of me"

"That was great. You're a great singer, you know." Sango said after a moment of silence.

"Thanks." I smiled again. We were at town now. It was very quiet since it was so early in the day. Tired men walked to work giving us weird looks as they passed. "Do they always act like this?"

"Yea... most of the time," Sango said quietly. "Let's look in here." She motioned to an allyway that was rather dark and empty.

"Okay...." I walked in behind Sango slowly. As we walked father in I noticed another allyway. When we looked in we saw a girl around eleven sleeping in a corner. As we neared she jerked awake.

"Who's there?!" she yelled. She looked up and saw us. She narrowed her eyes. "Who are you and why are you here?"

"Hello," I said coming a little closer. "I'm Kagome and this is Sango."

"Hello to you too," she said.

"Aren't you going to tell us your name as well?" she said, smiling.

"Hmph. Well, if you have to know my name is Yuki," she said proudly. "You still haven't told me why you're here."

"We're looking for friends who would like to go sail on the ocean," Sango said, now smiling as well.

"The ocean?" Yuki asked. Both nodded. "I would love to!"

"Okay. Now we have to find more people," I said. "You can go ahead and go to our hide out. It's a small cave on the beach."

Yuki nodded. "I know where that is."

"Okay," I said, walking away," Bye bye."

"Bye bye."

*~*~*~* On the other side of town, an hour later *~*~*~*~

"So, how many people do we got?" Sango asked as we walked back to the cave.

"Oh, I don't know." Kag said. She looked up at the sky. Looked like a storm. "Um, well let's count them off."

"Okay. There was Yuki, Yumi, Kiyo, and Yura. We got those easy." Sango said counting them off on her fingers.

"Then about forty minutes ago we got Kikyo, Mimi, Ali, Niko, and Deni." I said. "That's nine."

"And around twenty minutes ago we found Gano, Gino, and Gypsi. That's twelve."

"Don't forget Rin, Kagura, Kanna, Neko, Ookami, and Kit. Kind of weird to have those names, don't ya think?" I said.

"Eighteen." Sango said looking at me. "You and me. That's twenty."

"At least we got an even amount." I laughed. "Let's hurry and get to the cave. They're all waiting."

*~*~*~* At the Cave Entrance *~*~*~*~

"Shall we?" I asked. Sango nodded. We walked in and heard the noise level rise. When we finally saw everyone they were all crowded around different tables talking about everything and anything. We both sighed. "I hope we didn't find a bunch of idoits."

"I agree." Sango said. We both sighed again and strted walking towards the platform. When we stood on it all went silent.

"Hello, you've all meet each other?" I said nervously. There were alot of cries of "Yeah!" and "Sure did!" "Okay," whispered. "You do all know what you're doing here right?" I asked, louder this time.

"Getting cake!" a girl yelled anxiosly.

"No Kiyo!" a girl beside her said. "To be pirates!" Everyone started to yell they're agreement.

"At least they know what they're doing here now." Sango mumbled.

"You are all going to need to sign a list of rules, though," I yelled. Everyone quieted.

"What do you mean?" Yuki asked.

"They're our Pirate Rules," I said. "Just things about being loyal to the crew and all. Would you like me to read them out loud?" I asked. Everyone nodded. I sighed. "Here it goes:
One: Always remain loyal to the crew
Two: No killing crew members
Three: Don't invade another crew member's personal space
Four: Respect your fellow crew members
Five: Always follow through on promises, vows, and so on."

I stopped for a breath. "That's all I have, but we will add on when needed." Everyone nodded. " Will you sign?"

"We will," a group said from the back. They all came up and signed. It was Yuki, Yumi, Ali, and Niko. After that another group came up and signed. This consisted of Kikyo, Yura, Kagura, and Kanna. Another group soon followed, Neko, Ookami, Kit, and Mimi. Right after, Gano, Gino, and Gypsi. And after everyone but three had signed, we signed our names. After we had finished Rin, Kiyo, and Deni came and signed.

"Is that all of us?" I asked. Everyone nodded. "Now to get a ship." Our new crew started to complain. "Okay, okay! Sleep tonight, find a ship tomorrow."
