Chapter 7: Two years later
'Two long years,' she thought as she looked out at the beautiful but dangerous ocean.
She was standing behind the figurehead. The figurehead was a mermaid with a bow. She had had it professional made. Her and her crew had built the ship. They named it the Shikon no Tama. It had pink sails and a black flag with the skull and crossbones. There were rooms for all the crew members to share. There was two to each room, and the captains had their own room. So there was eleven rooms, and four washrooms, one for only the captains.
'How is my mother? Would she recognize me?' she thought. 'Is he still looking for me?' She glanced behind her when she felt a small, cold wind. A storm. They had to dock. But the closest town was the one she had left two years ago with her loyal crew. They would need to be fast, they could not dock at that town. They would surely be recognized. And caught.
"Kagome." She turned at the sound of her name. There stood Sango, Kagome's best friend and fellow captain. Sango had long dark brown hair pulled back in a ponytail and chestnut brown eyes that held concern. She wore a dark pink top and brown slacks with brown boots. Around her neck was a silver necklace with a bright pink diamond charm and dangling earrings to match. In the charm was a fairy figure. On her hip was a bright pink studded sword, and on her theigh a strapped dagger.
"Yes, Sango?" she said, smiling a little.
"A storm is coming as you suspected. You want to go to dock?" she asked, smiling a small smile herself thinking of what her friend had learned over the last two years. She looked at her friend that had turned back to the ocean. Kagome wore a white shirt with a green scarf on her neck and black slacks with black boots. Her midnight black tresses falling around shoulders and her blue-gray eyes clouded of with thoughts of the past. Around her neck was an emerald studded choker with matching studs in her ears. On her hip was an emerald studded sword and on her theigh a dagger with the same designs. The chains that held the choker togther were golden snakes.
"We shall dock in the next town," she said. "We will need to visit the cave though. Also change the sails," she added, turning back to Sango. "We do not wish to be caught, do we?" Sango smiled back and nodded. But before she could leave, Kagome stopped her again. "A meeting. After we dine." Sango nodded again and left.
Kagome watched her go. They would have to be very careful in the town. It would not be easy to hide so near the one man who searched high and low...
{(-)}
Sango walked briskly to the cabin. She stepped inside and told the triplets to change the sails. The triplets were Gano, Gypsi, and Gino. They each had a blue color hair. Gino had a baby blue color that was very curly and almost always in braids. Her eyes were a light pink. She was also the youngest. Gano, the middle child, had straight navy blue hair that was held back with a dark purple headband. Her eyes were forest green. Gypsi, the eldest, had wavy midnight blue hair that she left down unless she was fighting. Her eyes changed shades of blue depending on her mood and had pink and green sliver in them.
Sango left them and went straight to her room. She knew she needed to get different clothes. That's why they had made them. So when they landed, they had clothes, because even though the clothes they wore was comfortable it was unheard of any woman except a pirate to wear it. So they changed, and they weren't expected.
Sango got to her room and went through her chest. She had clothes from all around. She had Japanese kimonos, English style dresses for the wealthy and the poor, African skirts and shawls, Russian dresses, and then men's clothes. She picked out a few English dresses and set them aside. Then she left to the washroom before she had to eat.
{(-)}
She stepped out of the tub and wrapped herself in a silk robe. She walked into her room and started to get dressed in her clothes. This time she was in a dull ocean green shirt and a comfy white skirt. She pulled her hair in a loose low ponytail and walked out into the hall, towards the dining room. 'We must hide well. None of my crew have been to this village. But I have. My mother lives there. And I will see how she is doing. Nothing more.' That decided, she walked into the room.
The dinning room had one long table and one small round table. The long table would normally fit around thirty people, and the round table would fit five. On the tables were black tablecloths with white Japanese symbols. They had bought them in Japan, their first visit. Little Rin had insisted on it. Kagome smiled at the memory.
<^>^<^>flashback
Kagome pulled Rin along side her, looking in certain windows at weapons or clothes. When they past a store that Kagome had over looked, Rin stopped and would not budge. "Rin. We must go."
"But," Rin whined, "I wanna go in there."
"Why?"
"Because- Look!" Rin pointed to something inside. Kagome sighed and turned. And gasped. Inside was beautiful tableclothes, mats, carpets, and materials. "Can we please go in?" Rin asked. Kagome looked at her face that was in a pout. She sighed and thought, 'Might as well.'
"Okay." Rin pulled her inside and dragged her to a black and white tablecloth. The white was Japanese symbols meaning strength, power, kindness, and female. Kagome didn't want to waste money on it, even though she loved it.
"Pu-lease?" Rin asked with wide puppy dog eyes. Kagome sighed.
"Rin-chan. We do not need this."
"But-"
"No buts."
"Hmph." She said and ploped down on the floor. "I'm leaving until you buy it."
Kagome sighed. She knew she wasn't going to leave without it. So, she did exactly that.
<^>^<^>end
'And I have never regretted it,' she thought, sitting down and eating. There was chit-chat all around. The triple Ks (Kikyou, Kagura, and Kiyo) were talking about what new designs they were making and how they think everyone will like it. The Animals (Neko, Ookami, and Kit) were talking about their new pet, a tropical bird, and what they should name it. The cooks, Ali and Mimi were talking about some new recipe. Kanna and Niko were talking queitly, so she could not hear them, but she guessed it was about something they saw in the mirror. The Triplets (Gino, Gano, and Gypsi) were talking about some myth they had heard in Greece. Yuki, Yura, and Yumi were talking of the next town. And Deni, Rin, and Sango sat near her, talking of the storm.
After everyone was done eating she stood and all went quiet. "As you all know, we will be stopping in the next town," she started. "Though this is in England, we will not ne dressed in their style of clothes." Everyone now looked at her curiously. "We will dress as the Japanese. We will be visting England with our brothers and husbands." Everyone looked shocked for a moment. "That is all so they will stay back." They formed little 'o's and started to stand. "Wait." They sat back down again.
"As you all also know, we will be near the town we exscaped from. We will have to be very careful. We will have to make sure not to say or do anything for them to look at us suspiciously. Few will have the fake husbands. Some will be musicians, seamtresses, painters, and so on. We will tell them that the men on the ship do not speak english. We learned from our sensai, for we all had the same. That fact will remain true." Some of the girls giggled at this, other just smiled. "Do not get drunk there. You may leave." The girls got up and left, though many were complaining about not being able to drink. She laughed lightly. She didn't say they couldn't, they just couldn't get drunk.
"Kagome?" Deni asked. Kagome turned around and looked at her. Deni was wearing all black, which she normally did. Black slacks, boots, and dressy shirt. Around her neck was a thick silver chain that had an onyx charm with a mtaching pair of dangling earrings. Her sword was onyx studded, as was her daggers, with dragon images on the sheths and handles. She also held two fans on her right hip. Both were black with silver dragon designs, and onyxes on the sides. Though she wore all black, he hair was a mix of blonde colors and she had bluish-grey eyes that seemed to change all the time.
"Yes?" Kagome asked.
"Can I be a woman smaurai?" she asked, looking straight into Kagomes own buish-grey eyes. She saw Deni's eyes turn a deep blue with hope.
"I will think about it." Deni smiled, thanked her and left with a cheerful Rin.
Sango was waiting by the door when she arrived at her room. "Kagome."
"Sango." She knew what Sango wanted to talk about. She opened the door and went in. Sango followed and shut the door behind her.
"Kagome, I know your mother lives in this town." Kagome nodded with a small, sad smile. "What will you do?"
"I will only see how she is doing. That is all."
Sango looked at her with sympathy. "Are you sure?"
"Yes. Then we will go to the cave quickly. Only you, me, Rin, and Deni. We will live the Animals in charge."
"Are you sure about that? I think he still lives there, you know."
"Yeah. I'm sure he does. But, he will not find us. We will spend but one night there, and it will be in the cave."
"Okay. What-" Sango was interrupted by a small knock on the door. She looked at Kagome.
"Come in." Kanna and Niko entered queitly and stood near the door. Niko was the first to speak.
"I feel bad about this town. This trip."
"I saw a fight in my mirror. We were the victors, in a way. But we were distressed."
"What exactly did you see?" Kagome asked, now concerned.
"A fight with the police shall be. I'm not sure what caused it."
"That's all we saw. For the first time in a while, the image was blurred," Niko said. They both said good night and left. Sango looked at Kagome.
"What will we do?"
"Things will remain as planned." Kagome got up and sighed. "If she saw it, it will be. We need to get rest. We will talk tomorrow."
{(-)}
Sango sighed, said good night and left as well. When Kagome makes up her mind, thats how it is. 'But, she's a good leader.'
Sango got into bed and frowned. But Kanna and Niko seemed strange. Ever since that one time...
<^>^<^>flashback
They had been traveling and happened upon a small island. They decided to stop and check it out. Kagome, Sango, Niko, and Kanna went ashore with their weapons, ready for anything.
So, they walked a little while inland and found a huge cave and decided to explore it. They were watching out for any traps that might have been left there. They walked, but found no traps. Finally, when they were about to turn back, they come to the end. What they saw surprised them considerly. On top of a large, smooth rock was a jewel encrusted chest. The jewels were pearl and opal. Kanna had pearl decorated weapons, and Niko had opal. Sango and Kagome looked on in surprise as Kanna and Niko were suddenly at the coppper chest. They were there in a blink of an eye!
Kanna and Niko put their hands over the chest and started to glow a light blue. The chest slowly opened and revealed a mirror and a necklace. The mirror was in a white pearl frame. The necklace was made of thin rope and had opals and white shells wrapped in it. They glowed white and slowly covered the blue. Kagome and Sango had to block their eyes from the intensity of the light.
When they looked again, the light had died down and Kanna and Niko stood there with unreadable expressions. "They are gifts to us," they both stated simply, like it was the easiest thing ever to believe.
<^>^<^>end
It had been weird. Kanna had been able to see the furture and the present in the mirror, and when Niko had the necklace on she could she things that are in the past. It had been weird, but proved to be helpful.
Sango sighed and closed her eyes. Like Kagome said, they needed rest. And Sango fell asleep.
