Inuyasha looked down sadly at the small cat on the couch next to him. It was purring, curled up into a ball as it napped. 'Kagome...'
He listened to Kagome's catlike footsteps as she made her way down the stairs and into the living room.
"Hey," he whispered. Kagome looked down at the ground, trying to avoid eye contact.
"Hey," she looked up in time to see him lift up a small black kitten from the couch and walk over to her.
"Say hello to your new best friend." He handed Kagome the kitten and stood back. Kagome cradled the small creature in her arm and used her other hand to pet it lovingly. "Lesson 3. Speaking your native language."
Kagome looked up at him with a confused look. "My native language is english," she said, cocking her head to the side.
Inuyasha looked from the kitten to Kagome and back a few times before he decided that his point had been made. "No," he looked down at the kitten. "It's not." He pulled out a small can of cat food from his pocket and watched as both cats looked at it hungrily.
"You mean I can talk to cats?" Kagome asked, her mouth begining to water as he opened the can slowly.
"Kagome, I need you to clear your mind," he said calmly.
"I can't," she whined. "It smells deliscious." She ignored the slight loss of weight as the kitten in her arms jumped onto the table, next to the food.
"Ignore it!" he yelled, causing her to snap out of any hold the open can may have had on her. "Close your eyes!" he ordered. She did as she was told. Now listen only to the cat. Nothing else." He said calmly, watching her ears swivel a bit. A second later the kitten mewed happily and her Kagome's eyes shot open.
Kagome took a step back. "D-did you hear that?" she backed away from the small kitten.
"It spoke?" he asked, not seeming surprised in the least.
"So you did hear it."
"Nope." He lifted up the kitten and it squirmed in his hands, trying to get back to the food. "Here." he handed her the cat. "Try talking to it."
"O-okey." Kagome accepted the kitten and looked into it's confused eyes. After a few seconds, she let out a low mewing sound and the kitten nodded. "She can understand me!" she said excited.
(A/N: From now on all cat language is in italics.)
Two hours later...
What's wrong, Kagome? She looked down at the small kitten who just stared back at her.
It's nothing. Don't worry about it. She meowed softly as she looked out the window.
Something's wrong. I can smell it. The smaller cat walked to where Kagome was sitting and sat down next to her. You wanna talk about it?
Kagome giggled softly and scratched the kitten behind the ears. You're a smart little guy aren't you?
It's that man. Isn't it? The cat asked curiously. He's what's bothering you.
Kagome sighed. His names Inuyasha.
What'd he do to you? The kitten hissed. Did he hurt you?
No! Of course not! Kagome replied quickly, then watched the kitten's fur straighten out again.
Then, what's wrong?
He...he...yesterday... Kagome looked down.
You like him. The kitten said accusingly.
Kagome turned dark red. I..didn't...It wasn't like that!
Then what was it?
He... he kissed me. Kagome looked away, slightly ashamed.
Then, you should be happy.
Kagome stood up. Then, he left and wouldn't tell me why. He said it was bacause he was trying to protect me.
The kitten licked one of it's paws. You need to find a way to get his attention. To show him that you can take care of yourself.
A/N: Next chapter: Kagome and Kikyo fight for Inuyasha's attention...literally.
