It was teatime in the afternoon and everyone was in the garden. Hojo was sitting next to Kagome, InuYasha was sitting next to Hojo, and the girl he saw earlier was sitting near them.

“Who is that woman?” InuYasha asked both Kagome and Hojo. The couple looked to where InuYasha was pointing. Hojo's eyes glowered.

“Oh, that is my cousin, Sango. She moved here a week ago. She doesn't talk much nor do anything sociable. So, don't be offended if she doesn't reply to you,” said Kagome. She gave a sad look towards her cousin.

“Well, did anything happen to her that made her that way?” he asked.

Kagome eyes looked even sadder. “Yes, but I rather not speak of it in front of my husband, he doesn't like to hear about it.”

InuYasha shook his head. He stood up and walked towards the mute woman. He stopped in front of her. He looked at her eyes; they looked so far away.

“Hello Sango, my name is InuYasha,” he said. He knelt down and looked up to her face.

Sango didn't say anything, but she cast her eyes to his face. InuYasha thought he saw a small spark of life coming into her eyes, but he still saw the same lifeless eyes.

InuYasha sighed and went back to where his friends were.

“I told you,” Kagome said.

“Do you mind telling me what happened somewhere private?” InuYasha asked.

Kagome looked at Hojo and he gave her the go-ahead. Kagome stood up and led InuYasha on the other side of the garden.

“OK, Sango and I grew up together. She is a year older than me and was raised to do queenly things since she was old enough to walk and talk. Basically, she was raised to marry the next High Queen. Hojo's father already made preparations with my family before he, Hojo, was born. When the time came that she is to be betrothed to Hojo, something happened. Hojo came for a surprise visit to meet his queen-to-be. The first time I laid eyes on him, I was jealous of my cousin, but I didn't want to ruin everything she did, so I kept my feelings to myself.

The next day, I heard the news that he didn't want to marry my cousin that in fact he wanted to marry me. Let me just say that Sango became very furious. Since her room was next to mine, I heard furniture and many other things smashing against the walls. I heard her yelling, screaming, and crying, cursing my name. It was in fact very heart wrenching and scary.

But, inside, I was thrilled that he chose me instead. I heard that he doesn't want a woman who was raised to do everything he said and so forth.

My nurse, Kaede, told me that that on that night, Sango was in Hojo's room, stripped naked. She was under the covers, waiting for him. Of course, he didn't know, so when he went under the cover, ready to sleep, Sango advanced on him. And let's just say that you could hear him for miles.”

“Meaning that he yelled?” asked InuYasha.

Kagome rolled her eyes. “Well, duh. He said that he doesn't want to be anywhere near her and to remove her far away. My mother was very angry at her.”

“What about Sango's mother and father?” InuYasha asked.

Kagome took a deep breath. “Well, her parents died from a rare illness. My mother took her in.

Besides that, let me continue what happened. After we were married-Sango wasn't allowed to come, I was disappointed-she broke down, mentally and emotionally. I pleaded with him to have her stay here, and he gave in. And that's what happened to Sango.”

Kagome let InuYasha absorb what she just told him. InuYasha was in shock. He could understand about her being upset and all. He felt kind of bad for her.

“Anything else I should know about her?” he asked.

Kagome gave a thoughtful look for a second or so and shook her head. Then, they went back to the where they were before they left to talk about Sango. Hojo smiled at her and Kagome smiled back. Despite Sango living under the same roof, he felt like nothing could go wrong.

Back at the wizard's private tower, north of the castle, Miroku waved his hand across his well. He asked, “Will anything happen in the near future?”

Sesshomaru's head appeared and answered, “A person from the past will come to destroy another persons life. Beware of a person with green eyes.” Then, the head disappeared.

Miroku went to his chair and leaned back. He rubbed his chin and thought hard. “What is the world coming to? I can feel that more surprises will come its way and I hope my lord and lady will be prepared for what is to come.”
