Chapter 3
Inuyasha smiled in relief. He grabbed the hilt of Tetseiga and rushed toward her… running straight into a barrier instead. The white, sphere shaped obstruction threw Inuyasha back with the same force that he came toward it with. He yelled from surprise as he was thrown into a bush several yards behind him.
“What was that?” Kagome asked, her eyes snapping open. She looked around but could not find the cause of the interruption.
*The barrier was activated Lady Miko. Someone is already after you. *, Tenseiga answered telepathically.
*People already know about me? Do they know what we plan to do? * Kagome asked.
*They do not know of it yet but be sure it will not be long until they do. We will work on your training diligently Lady Kagome. We cannot afford for someone to delay our plans and the more you are prepared for the next attack the better. *
*Okay Tenseiga, lets begin. *

“I knew that would've been too easy”, he grunted. Inuyasha rubbed his head as he sat up. Small branches and leaves were caught in his hair and he was sitting in a mud puddle. He stood up and shook what he could off him. He narrowed his eyes at Tenseiga in the distance. `Damn Sesshomaru, even in death you torment me.' Tenseiga was obviously protecting Kagome from his strike, but why? Her power had not developed yet, but to earn the protection of Tenseiga, she must have strong, probably purifying, powers. `How do I get around that,' he thought to himself, `Tenseiga will protect her from any direct threat. Unless…' His lips curved into an evil smirk. `I will befriend her, make her trust me, and when she least expects it, I'll strike. She'll never see it coming.' He laughed menacingly at his own plan. He took one more glance at the girl and her sword before jumping into the trees to start on his next plan.

Naraku stared at the magical mirror that reflected the image of Inuyasha heading back to his castle. He did not see everything that transpired; something had blurred the vision when Inuyasha reached the Shrine. He made a mental note to check on that. For now, he knew that Inuyasha was on his way back with an evil smirk on his face, but not one of victory. `What good is he if he can't even kill a little girl,' he thought to himself, `I'll give him a chance to defend himself. If it wasn't for Kikyo, that mutt would be long gone.'
Kikyo was his wife, the one he could never get until he tempted her with power. She had been guarding over the Shikon no tama most of her life and tried to get Inuyasha to help her out of her duty. She hated the responsibility and thought that by using it on him to make him human, she could get rid of it and have a normal life with a decent looking man. She did care for him, but she never shared the same feelings of love with the hanyou. When Naraku discovered this during their war, he used it to his advantage. He told Kikyo of the life they could share. How she would be rich, powerful, and free of responsibility. She was practically eating out of his hand. He made her his vampire bride and one of the richest women in the world. The Shikon no tama was put away in a secret vault and heavily guarded. She was ready to give up everything she had known for this life… except for that hanyou. She had grown rather fond of Inuyasha in their time together; never to the point of really loving him, but she had become accustomed to having him around. So, Naraku allowed Inuyasha to become her slave. They were both so in love with her that they couldn't refuse her. So Inuyasha agreed to stay by her side; not knowing that her soul died along time ago.
When Kikyo became a vampire, her human soul was lost. The vampire blood was too strong and eventually took over once she found her vampire mate. Her soul was gone for hundreds of years and only recently was it discovered. One of Naraku's henchmen told him that Dracula discovered a girl in Tokyo that looked exactly like Kikyo and had a similar miko aura. Yet, she was different. She was the reincarnation of Kikyo's soul but her powers transcended anything that Kikyo might have possessed. She needed to be destroyed early, before she harnessed her powers and turned against them…and Naraku could think of no better way to torment Inuyasha than to have him kill the reincarnation of Kikyo. However, since Inuyasha was coming back without having killed Kagome, Naraku figured he must have underestimated her. `That little miko must have something up her sleeve, but this was only the first strike.' At that moment, Inuyasha reached the front door.
The large Victorian knocker sounded throughout the castle. Inuyasha was led through a massive hallway with large paintings along the dark walls. He left muddy footprints in the deep red carpet as he followed the twists and turns of the halls. When he finally reached the main room, Naraku sat on a large throne in the center of the room. Kikyo sat in a slightly smaller throne beside him with her head high, looking down at Inuyasha as he approached. Inuyasha stood before them and bowed deeply, showing his submission to his masters as he always did, though he never felt quite right about it. He waited for Naraku to allow him to speak.
“What happened to you Inuyasha? You didn't have a problem completing your mission did you?”
“Master Naraku, I come bearing bad news, but a plan to fix it as well,” Inuyasha began. Naraku stared at Inuyasha closely, in a judging manner and motioned for him to continue. “It seems that I underestimated the girl you sent me to kill. You see she has… powers that are developing subconsciously and they present an issue.” Inuyasha was going to tell Naraku about Tenseiga but decided against it. `That sword is one thing he won't take from me. It will be mine'.
“I see your predicament,” Naraku responded, “yet you must still kill the wench. She may be powerful, but she is still a little girl. If you cannot end her life, maybe we should reconsider the existence of yours.”
“I have a plan Master Naraku, I will enroll in her school, get close to her and make her trust me. She will not see my attack coming and I will know her defenses. It cannot fail,” Inuyasha assured him. Naraku considered for a moment.
“Very well, Inuyasha. We will have you enrolled in her school and give you a spell to hide your demon features from who may not understand, but do not get too close to her. We all know the power a female miko can have over the men in her life.” Naraku glanced over to Kikyo who glided her hand over his arm in a seductive manner and smiled slightly letting the tips of her fangs show. Inuyasha let out a low growl that went unnoticed by the couple in front of him. He sighed, gritted his teeth, and bowed again.
“Thank you Master”, he spat. With that he turned on his heels and left with demonic speed out of the castle. He knew Kikyo belonged to Naraku but he couldn't help but be jealous. It was in his inu-youkai nature to be so. He might be a vampire but his demon blood was not defeated by it. `I can't take much more of this, but I swear my day shall come. One day Naraku, I will have my revenge,' Inuyasha said to himself, `For now, I must focus on that girl. I will not be shown up by a schoolgirl; I will defeat Kagome.'
