Kagome's eyes snapped open as her alarm rang to loud for comfort. “Aargh, 5 more minutes.” She swatted her hand at the alarm clock while she buried her head under her pillow. Her hand accidentally hit the clock too hard, sending it flying toward the wall. The sound of it smashing on the floor made her wake up. “Great, just my luck. Well, now I'm awake.” She kicked off her sheets and grouchily stomped her way to the bathroom. Mornings were Kagome's least favorite part of the day. She brushed her teeth and took a nice hot shower. When she got out she finally felt awake and went to her room to change and brush her hair. She put on her uniform and the sheath for her sword. `I hope Tenseiga is right about that whole invisibility thing,' she thought to herself. She ran downstairs where her family was already having breakfast.

“Well look who decided to finally wake up and join us,” Kagome's mother said as she put a plate of pancakes on the table.

“Hey I'm not that late today,” Kagome stated, “oh and mom, I need a new alarm clock.”

“Again!” Souta, Kagome's little brother, screamed.

“You need to be more responsible Kagome,” Keiji (Kagome's grandfather) scolded.

“Yes Ji-chan, I know, but I'm gonna be late for school so I better get going.” She grabbed a muffin and kissed everyone goodbye. Souta wiped his cheek in disgust. Kagome laughed and grabbed her backpack as she ran out the door. She met Eri again and headed off to school. As soon as she arrived, she saw all the girls giggling and more excited than usual.

“Kagome did you hear,” her friend, Yuni, Eri's twin sister, asked, “There's a new guy and he is gorgeous!”

“Oh my god, he has beautiful silver hair and those eyes!” another girl gushed. Kagome laughed at their antics but her breath caught when she finally saw him. He was sitting against a wall with his knees up and his eyes resting closed. Even in the dorky uniform, it was obvious that he was well-toned and fit. His silver locks glistened under the morning sun and he gave off an immediate air of a bad boy. He had all the girls swooning and he knew it. He opened his eyes and his golden gaze fell directly toward Kagome. He smirked and nodded his head in her direction. He looked to the side and suddenly got up, disappearing in the mass of students.

“Kagome he smiled at you!” Eri yelled. “Do you know him? Why don't I know him? Answer me!”

“Calm down girl, I don't know him. He must have been smiling at someone else,” she answered. `But then why was he looking in my direction,' she thought to herself. She shook it off and headed inside the school.

Inuyasha arrived at the school early. He got his schedule and sat at the front of the school waiting for his “student buddy” who was assigned to show him around his first day. He secretly hoped he would see Kagome too. `For the mission, of course,' he assured himself. He rested his eyes as he waited. `I hate waking up early. The things I do for a mission.' He had heard all the girls around him giggling and whispering as they passed. They were all in love with him and he knew it. He smirked inwardly, `I still got it.' Then he heard a distinct laughter. He instantly recognized it as Kagome. He cracked one eye open slightly and looked toward her. `She's here and she has Tenseiga. Okay, so how am I gonna go about this.” He thought to himself. He opened his eyes fully to find her looking in his direction. He smirked at her and nodded, trying to see her reaction. She did not react all giggly as the other girls did, but she did look at him with slight interest. `Only a matter of time.'

“Are you Inuyasha?” A voice called from nearby. He looked to his right to see a pair of friendly eyes greeting him. He walked toward the boy only to discover he was the same boy that had walked Kagome home yesterday. `Man, what luck.'

“Yeah, you must be my `buddy',” Inuyasha answered. The boy held out his hand to Inuyasha.

“The name's Hojo. I know this whole `buddy' thing is kinda corny, but what can I do, I'm stuck.” Inuyasha gave him the once-over and decided that Hojo was all right. He shook his hand. “There is a plus to this though, I can show you the best places to skip and where all the fine women hang out during lunch and after school…not that you have a problem with that I see.” He smiled as he saw the girls checking Inuyasha out.

“What can I say, they can't get enough of this.” He popped his collar and they both laughed as headed inside the school when the bell rang. They compared schedules and saw that they had most of the same classes and the same lunch period.

“Cool, if we get split up, meet me by the trophy cases at lunch, but for now we got the same class.” Hojo motioned Inuyasha to follow. Everyone seemed to know Hojo, especially the girls. Hojo was obviously one of the most popular guys at the school. Yet, every time a girl came up to him, he would grope her in one way or another. He was slapped a few times and was called a hentai more than a few times but he never seemed too fazed by it. He always kept his smug grin on his face. They reached the classroom just before the bell rang and Inuyasha took a seat next to Hojo. He didn't even notice when a certain raven-haired beauty walked in the room and took a seat on the other side of Hojo.

“Hey Hojo,” she said as she gave him a hug and a kiss on the cheek.

“Oh hey Kagome, I don't believe you two have met.” He motioned to Inuyasha, “Kagome this is Inuyasha; Inuyasha, this is Kagome the most hard-to-get girl in the entire school.” Hojo laughed and smiled at Kagome.

“Oh shut up Hojo,” she said with a playful slap on the arm. She stuck her hand out toward Inuyasha and smiled, “Hi, nice to meet you.”

“Hey Kagome, it's very nice to meet you.” Inuyasha looked her up and down and smiled a toothy grin that sent shivers down Kagome's spin. He snickered, `Almost too easy. Wait—I can't get ahead of myself again.' He leaned over to Hojo, but spoke loud enough for Kagome to hear, “Are all the girls at this school as gorgeous as her?”

“Nope, she's one of a kind.” He smiled toward Kagome, but then whispered to Inuyasha “If your gonna go after her, be careful. I care about her a lot you know.”

Inuyasha nodded back and looked over at the teacher when he began talking. `So, he cares about her. No problem, all I have to do is prove myself sincere to Hojo and then get him to help me get her. This is gonna take a lot of acting.' He looked over to Kagome who was glancing his way and quickly averted her gaze, slightly biting her lip. `Getting to her may not be that hard after all.'

When the lunch bell rang, Inuyasha met up with Hojo, Kagome, Eri, and Yuni. They got their lunches and headed over to the field behind the school to sit on the grass. The sun was blazing without mercy and only occasional breezes offered temporary relief. They decided to walk over to a rather large tree and sit under the shade. Sweat was glistening off Kagome's neck and down her collarbone as she walked toward the shade. Inuyasha sat Indian-style in front of her. The extra attention he was showing her did not go unnoticed, yet she was in complete denial.

All day Inuyasha had been smiling at her and sitting near her in the classes they had together. It was not creepy or stalker-like behavior, just different from what she was used to. Guys had liked Kagome before, but were never so openly after her. She had to admit, she liked the attention. Yet, she had no idea how to act back. She found him attractive, and obviously he found her attractive, but he had a conceited air about him that made her want to put him in his place at the same time. He knew he had this effect on her and was doing it on purpose. So she decided to completely deny it and act like nothing was happening. She wanted to break him. `If he can play games, so can I,' she thought to herself.

When they went to get their lunch, Inuyasha stood behind her in the line. She reached over to grab a tray and could have sworn she felt clawed fingertips grazing the small of her back ever so gently. It took her by surprise and her hand ended up slipping on the rail she was leaning on, causing her to fall. With speed she had never seen before, Inuyasha caught her with one arm just before she hit the floor. He leaned right over her face and asked her if she was okay. His voice was so deep and silky. His golden eyes showed concern and his voice sounded sincere. `Does he really have no idea what he's doing to me?' She wondered to herself as she thought back on the incident. A french-fry hitting her face snapped her out of her thoughts.

“Earth to Kagome.” Yuri said as she aimed another fry at her friend.

“Huh? What?” Kagome stuttered out as she realized she had been daydreaming. Everyone busted out laughing. She put some peas on her spoon and flicked them at Yuri in retaliation. This started a full on food fight between the friends as everyone began throwing everything they had. Inuyasha took the opportunity to come up behind Kagome and put his jello in her hair. She looked at him shocked. Everyone looked toward him. `Man, I forgot how girls are about their hair. If she's anything like Kikyo, her screaming will never end.' To his surprise, Kagome started laughing. He stood completely still, still unsure of what was really happening. She smiled an evil smirk and reached down to her tray, grabbing her chocolate pudding. She put a big glob on her fingers and then mouthed the word “Run”.

He started running in zigzag patterns to avoid the giggling girl chased him. He was not running at his full demonic speed; he knew it was all in fun and she wouldn't be able to keep up, but he did his best to avoid her by being just beyond her grasp. They ran all around the field laughing crazily, until Kagome finally jumped on him. They rolled around a few times until Kagome ended up straddling his hips and put what was left of the pudding all over his face and hair. Kagome leaned over and hovered just an inch over his face with a grin. “Never mess with the hair.” She got off him and swayed her hips as she walked back to her friends' shocked faces. She was blushing fiercely at her boldness and although no one saw, a certain hanyou had a tint of pink as well.
