InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Purifying All Evils ❯ The Magic of the Movies ( Chapter 6 )

The week passed by uneventfully. Inuyasha kept trying to get closer to Kagome, but she was keeping her distance. He and Hojo developed a friendship, much to Inuyasha's surprise. Hojo was the first human, first anything for that matter, that treated him as an equal. Even though he never saw Inuyasha's real form, he didn't seem as though he would be different about it. He always talked about the demons and magical creatures of the past in an almost admiring way. He said that Kagome and him had grown up on the stories and, while Kagome didn't believe in it, he did and he always wanted to meet one of the creatures. For some reason, Inuyasha felt like he had known him for years, like they had been friends in another life or something.
Hojo had asked Inuyasha to go to the movies with everyone on Friday night. Inuyasha showed up a little early and waited outside for the others to show up. He sat on a bench wearing a pair of dark baggy jeans, a red t-shirt, and a black unbuttoned shirt over it with a pair of black high tops. His silver hair flowed loosely over his shoulders. Hojo was the first to show up. He was wearing a dark violet shirt with baggy black jeans and black and purple sneakers. He sat next to Inuyasha and nodded his head.
“What's up, man. Hey I was wondering, what's going on with you and Kagome?” Hojo asked with narrowed eyes. It was not a threatening glare, but it was one of total seriousness.
“N-nothing man, I'm just being friendly,” Inuyasha stuttered. He had not expected him to ask that question so bluntly.
“Inuyasha, I hope Kagome isn't just a game to you. She's special alright.” Hojo replied. Before Inuyasha could reply, the girls showed up. The twins were beautifully in their matching navy blue tank tops and jeans, but Kagome definitely surpassed them. She was wearing a black tube top with a red mini sweater over it and tight, dark blue jeans that showed off all the right curves. She finished it off with a pair of red and black low tops and a black belt with her name on the buckle. Inuyasha's eyes widened as he took in the vision before him. He especially liked the fact that she was matching him in his favorite color. He walked over to them and said hi, then leaned up to Kagome's ear for a split second.
Hojo got up and hugged each of the girls, groping them as he went. It didn't bother Inuyasha at all until Hojo's hand found its way to Kagome's backside. Inuyasha let out a growl, which came out a little louder than he intended. Everyone looked at Inuyasha in shock. His eyes widened when his mind finally registered what he just did. He quickly turned away and walked inside the theatre. The girls went on line for popcorn and candy while Hojo went to catch up with Inuyasha.
“Hold on man. What was that back there?” Hojo asked him.
“Look man I'm sorry, I don't know what came over me; it's just that…aargh, never mind. Can we just drop it?” Inuyasha pleaded. Hojo looked over at his friend. It was so obvious, Inuyasha was attracted to Kagome, but he was not going to admit it. He decided to put him at ease a little.
“Alright, we'll drop it. But just so you know, Kagome and me are only friends. She's like a sister to me in a way. I've known her forever and I was just looking out for her when I asked you if you were into her. She's a sweet girl and I want her happy, but she won't find that with me and vise versa.” Hojo smiled at the relieved face of the hanyou. “Besides, I think she's into you, man…not that you're interested” He started walking toward the doors to their movie when he felt Inuyasha's hand on his arm.
“You think so?” He asked with a tremendous smile. They took their seats and made sure to save three for the girls. Hojo left one right next to Inuyasha and then sat on the other side. He saved two seats his other side, thus forcing one girl to sit separated from everyone but the vampire hanyou. He knew Yuni and Eri would want to sit next to each other so that left only one other girl.
“Hey Kagome, Kagome! Why don't you sit here by Inuyasha?” Hojo asked. Kagome took her seat and smiled warmly at him.
“Very smooth Hojo” Inuyasha whispered.
“It worked didn't it.” Hojo replied. Inuyasha leaned back in his seat and glanced over at the girl on his right who was already entranced in the movie. `I can make this even more interesting,' Inuyasha thought to himself. When the movie started, he put his arm on the armrest over hers. She looked at him for a second but made no move to get him off. `She couldn't like me for real, what am I thinking? If she ever discovered who I really was…that I'm just a dirty vampire hanyou…but she is just a mission. I must never forget the mission.” He moved his hand and reached for the popcorn bucket on Kagome's lap, bumping into her hand in the container. The sudden contact caught her off guard, and she knocked her soda over. Inuyasha tried to save it but a good amount ended up spilling on Kagome's sweater. He grabbed a bunch of napkins and began dabbing at the stain. Kagome's breath was caught once again as she stared at the hand on her chest. It was a completely innocent gesture, yet in a not-so-innocent place. It took him a second to realize where his hand was. His face turned nine shades of red as he quickly pulled his hand back. Kagome took off the sweater and placed it on her lap.
“I-I'm s-sorry Kagome. I-I…” Inuyasha began but was cut off by Kagome placing a slender finger over his lips.
“It's okay Inuyasha. I know you didn't mean it like that and thanks for trying to help me” Kagome replied. He was taken aback by how nice she was being about it. She didn't even hit him like she did to Hojo when he groped her. She shivered involuntarily from the chill in the movie theatre. Inuyasha took off his over shirt and slowly placed it on her shoulders. He let his hands linger on her shoulders for a moment as he stared into her eyes. A million emotions were playing in them like a movie. He saw nervousness, excitement, confusion, caring, and another emotion he couldn't quite identify, but for the first time in his life, a girl that wasn't Kikyo was looking at him with no sign of fear. He leaned toward her face, and her eyelids fluttered closed. Suddenly everyone in the theatre screamed! They both jumped up and away from each other in reaction. They soon realized that everyone was screaming at a scene in the horror movie.
The moment being lost, Inuyasha sighed and placed his hand on the armrest as he thought of what almost happened and what it meant. It was then he felt Kagome place her hand over his. He looked at her and she smiled. He turned his hand over and laced his fingers with hers. He didn't know what was happening, but he couldn't deny that he liked it.
When the movie was over, they all walked out of the theatre. Yuni and Eri's mom showed up and they left. Kagome was counting on Hojo walking her home, but he forgot that he conveniently had to go to his aunt's house on the other side of town. Inuyasha offered to walk her back to the shrine and she gratefully accepted. They walked in relative silence. They both kept looking toward each other when they thought the other wasn't looking, yet kept trying to avoid eye contact. When a slight breeze chilled the night air, Kagome tightened her grip on the black shirt Inuyasha gave her. He smiled when her saw her. When they reached the shrine, Inuyasha walked her up the stairs. He became very interested in a certain spot on the floor while Kagome fumbled with her keys.
“Kagome, what would you say if I were to ask you out one day…hypothetically?” Inuyasha asked sheepishly.
“Well, I don't know; I guess I'd have to really be in that situation, not just hypothetically, you know,” she answered with a smile on her face
“Keh, you can't make this easy for me can you wench.” Inuyasha smirked at her. `I should have known she would make it this hard—but this is just to get closer to her for the mission of course…if I happen to enjoy myself its just a plus,' he thought to himself.
“Wench? Hmm, well now I really don't know…”
“You know what I meant,”
“I can't read your mind.”
“Come on Kagome, I'm not good at this!!… Will you go out with me for real?”
“Yes Inuyasha, I'd love too,” she giggled. “Goodnight Inuyasha.” She gave him a light kiss on the cheek and walked in the door. He stared at the door for a few moments with his hand on his cheek. He had no idea when this happened, but now he had a feeling that completing his mission would be much harder than he thought.
“Goodnight Kagome,” Inuyasha whispered. He turned and walked home to analyze his new thoughts.

It was two o'clock in the morning and Kagome could not sleep. She had been lying in bed for hours tossing and turning with no signs of slumber. She could not stop thinking about that night at the movies, the way that Inuyasha stared in her eyes, the way his touch made her body heat rise and cause goosebumps at the same time. She was sprung, and she knew it. She remembered that moment in the theatre, when they came so close to kissing that she could feel his hot, mossy breath on her lips. His eyes were shining with compassion, confusion, anticipation, and another emotion she could not identify. He did not hold that smirk on his face as usual; this wasn't a game for him, it was for real.
The only part that was surreal and made the whole event feel like a dream was when her eyes were closing as his lips were inching toward her. She could have sworn she saw a pair of silvery dog ears on top of his head. She figured it must have been her grandfather's warnings about boys combined with his old stories about demons and mystical creatures. She thought it was meant to scare her, but in reality, it only added to his mysterious charm. She knew it was stupid, but part of her wished that it was real. Even without them, she knew it was a magical moment between them. He ignited a feeling within her that she never knew she had.
When she got cold, he gave her his shirt to keep her warm. It had his scent all over it. It was a wild and untamed smell, like the forest. It had a relaxing effect on her. The small kiss on the cheek she gave him when she left had kept her lips tingling for hours. After he asked her out, she couldn't hold back the cheesy smile that spread across her face as she walked through the shrine. This love-struck visage did not go unnoticed by her mother and Ji-chan. Her mother smiled at her daughter's expression. She could remember the puppy love of her youth and was glad to see her daughter experiencing the same. Ji-chan, however, did not feel the same way. He thought Kagome was too young to be so enamored by a member of the opposite sex. He could not see the innocence of it and immediately concluded that, by liking this boy, Kagome was going to get pregnant.
“I don't like it; I don't like it one bit!” Ji-chan shouted through the living room once Kagome went to her room. “She's just a baby, she shouldn't be so concerned with that hoodlum!”
“She's not a baby, Ji-chan, she's going to be 16 years old in a few days for crying out loud. Besides I trust my daughter's judgment,” Kagome's mother replied. Ji-chan huffed and turned his back to her, crossing his arms. She put her hand on his shoulder.
“Look, if it will make you feel better, why don't we tell her to invite that boy for dinner tomorrow night? That way we can get a better impression of him.”
“Fine, but I'm still not happy about this!” Ji-chan stated as he stomped out of the room. Kagome's mother just shook her head as she headed up to her daughter's room to tell her.
Everything combined was keeping Kagome stressed throughout the night. It's not like Inuyasha was her boyfriend or anything. Yet, she could not forget the way he looked at her and the way it made her feel. He did agree to come so it must not have been a huge burden on him, although he didn't like the fact that their first date involved her family. `It's just an innocent dinner. I told mom that we're not really serious and she said she understood. What's the harm in it right?' She tried to talk herself into believing that this could go smoothly, yet with each minute that passed, her anxiety grew.
Kagome had only received four hours of sleep before her grandfather banged on her door to wake up. It was Saturday and as such, she had enough chores to keep her busy for hours. She grunted as she got out of bed and when to take a shower. She changed into a pair of dark blue shorts and a light blue, over-sized t-shirt tied slightly at her waist. She tied her hair in a messy bun and set out to work.
