** CHAPTER 2 **

His scent was all over the forest! What the fuck did that guy think he was? Some kind of god? That, for no apparent reason he could steal another’s property and feed off the people living there?! Shit! Another girl dead!

Inuyasha growled as he got closer to a human’s body. Some girl, probably had been a virgin too, if the smell of her blood said anything. As he neared the body he growled again, this girl was the village priestess! A weak one, but one none-the-less. He couldn’t remember her name, only that the infamous kikyo had been the one to train this girl.

kikyo, that hateful bitch! He’d wanted her, but she had hated him for what he was, and could fight off his mind control. He’d hated her too, at first, but something about her called to him, something similar to whatever was happening with Kagome.

He cursed again and dug a quick grave. The villagers shouldn’t know there was a vampire in this forest, for when Sesshoumaru left it could only spell trouble for Inuyasha. He winced, he didn’t like to actually kill the humans, granted they often deserved it, but without them there would be no food left, and beyond that, once you got a small group stirred up, another group got that way too, and another after them.

“Damn you Sesshoumaru!” Inuyasha hissed, he needed to get back to checking the main path. Kagome was in so much more than danger, and the stupid woman! Why was it that she just had to ignore his warnings?! When he had her, and had her completely, he’d be sure to stop all of that.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Kagome found the field of flowers, all in full bloom, though there was no sunlight... It was odd, in some part of her mind, but the oddity of it was crushed by the beauty of it. When had this patch come to be? It was too wonderful! She was sure she’d have seen it!

Rather pleased with herself for her new discovery she, carefully of course, went to the center of the field and spun in a circle, the moon was brilliant tonight! Full and surrounding her, unhindered since there were no trees around!

A rather feral sounding growl halted her though, and she crouched on the ground. A growl? Who was growling at her? Were there more wolves hiding in the shadows? Or... Could it be he whom Inuyasha had warned her of?

She looked left then right, then behind her carefully, and quickly. The shadows seemed to be moving... But, she was no little girl! Whatever was in there, if there was anything, should come out and show itself.

Of course, thought and action are two very separate things. So fear kept her in a crouching position, and she was very much ready to run, of course, if she ever did end up with the opportunity.

Calm down, a voice in her mind cooed and she did so immediately. Stand up, nothing in the darkness will hurt you.

Again, she obeyed without much thought, though her own voice, tiny in her mind, was calling for her to run. Run away and as fast as she could. Telling her not to dally, but to get her living hide out of there while it was still living.

The shadows directly in front of her gaze shifted again, and out stepped a man. She sighed with relief, there was a man! A human man! A noble human man, by the looks of his clothing, pure white with designs of red flowers on his shoulder.

“Little girls shouldn’t be roaming this forest alone, especially at night.” his voice was cold, but for some reason or another she felt it soothing away her worries of him.

That though, made alarms go off in her head but she couldn’t understand them. Sometimes, when she was with Inuyasha, she felt the same alarms go off, but he’d never hurt her before so... why..?

“I... Know...” she said, fighting to say anything, the man, whoever he was seemed alarmed slightly by her response, and she suddenly didn’t feel as though she could speak at all.

“Know, do you? Then you realize that monsters lurk in the shadows,” he took several steps forward, mindless of the flowers that were crushed under his boots. “Monsters that could easily smell a young woman’s fear, and would come running for the chance to taste that girl.”

He was frightening. His words were laced with double meanings and she picked up on them, though barely, it was like she didn’t have control over her mind anymore. “W-who are... who are you?”

The man’s eyes widened fractionally then narrowed and a sharp pain tore through her, she didn’t understand it. What was happening? Why did she have to fight to speak, and why couldn’t she run like she’d been trying to so desperately for the last five minutes?

“Come here,” he held his hand out, and she felt her feet respond to him. She was about to step forward but stopped herself.

“Ug...” she groaned, a pain going through her legs as though they protested her lack of movement. It hurt not to move towards this man, which shouldn’t ever be the case, she should be moving away from him. Yet she could not.

He turned his hand palm up and she felt her body go lax and herself begin to glide towards this man. Glide? How was she gliding? Her feet were barely touching the ground, just the tips of her toes and yet was she moving!

He wrapped an arm around her back, then dipped and scooped her legs up in the other hand. She was helpless, she realized it too late.

“Put... Me... Down...” she breathed out barely, he seemed annoyed again and that same pain from earlier went through her. His eyes were such a strange color, the same as Inuyasha... Strange, yellow-gold, but... This man wasn’t like Inuyasha, this man was cold, and he was probably going to kill her.

“Such a troublesome girl,” he cooed, “I’d planned on letting you live, you know, planned on giving you the strange desire to have sex, planned to make you want me, planned on not allowing you to think I am what I am,” he smirked, though just barely. “Plans always seem to fall to the way-side when powerful miko women decide they don’t want to be manipulated.”

A mouthful of fangs greeted her sight, though she could only tear her eyes from his for a split second, because it hurt her head to look away from his eyes.

He walked further into the field, right to where she’d been standing before. He was going to kill her, he’d said as much. It frightened her a lot, and she felt a strange power, something she hadn’t remembered ever having, well up inside her. It gave her the ability to move her own mouth again, and control her own voice. “What... Who... What are you?” she barely managed.

The pain, that she now guessed to be coming from him, surged through her again, though this time it seemed worse, as her own body rejected it. “I?” he asked as he set her onto the ground, rather gently really, as he positioned his body between her thighs, which were, thankfully, still covered by her dress. “I am what I am, I am older and stronger than Inuyasha, though we are one in the same. I,” he breathed lowering to her neck, “am the vampire Sesshoumaru, and will be one of the last things you see in your mortal life.”

One of his hands went to her right calf, and worked it’s way up, moving her dress up in the process. “L-let... me... go... p-please...” she breathed the pain shot through again this time much worse, making her cry out slightly in pain.

“You keep fighting my control. Stop and the pain will stop too.” the vampire man, Sesshoumaru, got her dress up to mid thigh, then put his hand under the dress. Her whole body went rigid, he was... He couldn’t be thinking... He wasn’t about to rape her was he?! He’d said something earlier about giving her “the strange desire to have sex,” but it hadn’t registered in her mind until his hand had...

He touched her most private of areas and she felt very ready to scream, but her voice box was closed tightly. Then, suddenly, his body weight was removed from atop her. “Get away from that girl, foul beast!”

A piece of some kind of text was thrown at Sesshoumaru, who was already in the process of pulling off another one. The same thing happened, Sesshoumaru was thrown back several feet when the parchment hit him.

Sesshoumaru jumped away from the next attacking parchment and crouched low on the ground. “Ah, the ex-monk Miroku,” Sesshoumaru cooed. “Come to save another virgin are you? It’ll turn out the same as last time, I can assure you, monk. Let me have to girl now, or I’ll just take her later.”

“This girl I will not allow you to touch!” Miroku shouted running to Kagome’s side, a sword in hand, “I have learned all of your weaknesses, foul vampire! I will use all of my newfound knowledge against you!”

Sesshoumaru smirked, “Five years too late though, am I right? That poor girl... She died didn’t she? That’s right, I drained her dry, and stamped out her heart. Oh, but she did taste delicious, I can promise you that.”

Miroku’s eyes went wide and he threw another parchment at Sesshoumaru, who dodged, then disappeared, leaving Kagome and Miroku alone.

Kagome felt weak suddenly, like she’d been drained of all energy, but the monk was kneeling at her side now. She didn’t want him to touch her, she didn’t want anyone to touch her just then... She’d come very close to just being raped, but this man... It wasn’t his fault, he’d saved her and he’d promised to keep her safe.

“Are you alright miss...?”

“Kagome,” she filled in and sat up, moving quickly to cover herself up, the monk, or ex-monk rather, was looking at her exposed legs, and she had to wonder why he was an “ex” monk now. “Thank you for saving me,”

Miroku stood up and offered his hand, which she gladly accepted. “You’ve done something rather terrible, Miss Kagome,” Miroku shook his head and put a friendly hand onto her shoulder. “That is the infamous Sesshoumaru, among vampire hunters he is the worst of his kind. He kills women, and only women, and drains them near dry,”

Kagome cringed and she guessed he must’ve noticed for he quickly changed the subject. “What are you doing out here in the forest? You should know better than to enter such a place so late at night, and leaving the main path, too!”

Kagome winced but knew this man was right. “I had to... My grandmother... If I hadn’t gone my mother would’ve...” she said not really knowing where to begin. “Then I stayed on the main path until...”

Why had she left the main path? She couldn’t really remember... Something about wanting to gather flowers but that was ridiculous, her grandmother held no fondness for flowers... Unless they had healing properties.

“Sesshoumaru put a thought into your head, I assume.” Miroku shook his head. “Well, you are safe now, but be forewarned, Sesshoumaru has never given up on any target.” he looked angry again. “Damn!” he cursed then winced himself, “I am sorry, I should not use such language around a lady, now, if you are willing to be in my company, I shall escort you to the forest’s edge.”

Kagome blinked, this guy sure was a lot more polite than Inuyasha! Speaking of him... She kind of wanted to mention him to the monk, but... Sesshoumaru had said “one in the same” did that mean Inuyasha...

Could he be?

Oh god!

Inuyasha was a vampire!
