Chapter 2: The girl with no name

A teenage girl walked toward a hut carrying a basket of several herbs. When she entered she saw another girl on a mat sitting up slightly. “Oh! You're awake!” She said putting down the basket. “It's about time. You've been asleep for about a week.”
“Wh… where am I?” questioned the girl on the mat.
“You're in my hut. My name's Chieko. What's yours?”
“I… I can't remember.”
“Not surprised.” said Chieko. “You hit your head pretty hard. When I first found you, I wasn't sure you were going to survive. You're probably hungry. I'll go get you some food while you try to remember.” She smiled and left the room.
The girl looked around. The hut was small but had a warm feeling to it. She turned her attention to herself. She was dressed in a white kimono and had bandages all over her arms and legs.
Suddenly something tickled her hand. She turned to see a small, brown, creature looking up at her with cute eyes. It looked like a horse but was the size of a small dog. “Hi” the girl said, patting it on the head. “Who are you?” The creature seemed to smile at her and jumped into her lap.
Just then the door opened and Chieko entered with a large basket of fruit. “I see you've met Apple.” She said tossing an apple to the creature who leapt up, caught it, and began eating in the corner.
“I can see where he got his name. What exactly is he?” said the girl.
“A horse demon. We've got a whole heard of them around here. Apple's an orphan so he took to living with us. Kind of a pest really. But speaking of name's, have you thought of yours yet?” The girl shook her head. “Well, we're gonna have to call you something while we're here. How's… Keiko.”
“Um… alright”
“Good. Well you better get some rest Keiko. Good Night” Chieko left and Keiko laid back down. Apple curled up beside her and they both fell asleep.

Sango, Miroku, and Shippo sat around a fire by a river in a canyon. No one spoke, but they seemed to be waiting for something. At that moment, InuYasha came around the corner.
The three jumped to their feet. “Did you find her?” Shippo shouted anxiously. InuYasha simply hung his head and sat down by the fire. The others sat down as well.
All was silent for a while. Then Sango said cautiously “I… InuYasha?” He didn't respond but she went on “You know we've been searching for a week now. Don't you think…”
“She's still out there.” InuYasha said.
“InuYasha, Sango's right,” said Miroku. “Kagome was already hurt when she fell. The chance of her surviving is… well…”
“I'm not giving up. You go back if you want but I'm staying here.” He stood up and left to continue his search. No one else moved for a moment. Then Sango stood.
“I'm going to bed.” She said. Miroku and Shippo followed her shortly.
