Chapter 3: Getting on without you

InuYasha continued his search for three more days. In the end all he found was her backpack. This he took back to Kagome's family. Telling them what happened to her was harder then anything he'd ever done in his life.
When he got back to his time he didn't speak to anyone but kept himself for two weeks. Then something happened that brought him back to reality.
InuYasha woke with a start. He'd been reliving that night in his dreams for the past two weeks. `Kagome. Why did you have to leave me?' he thought. `Why…' a scream interrupted his thoughts.
“Help! Help me please!” a young man was running toward the village. He appeared to be injured. InuYasha watched as Sango and Miroku met him and led him into a hut. Then, he jumped from his perch in a tree and followed them. He didn't enter the hut but waited outside and listened.
“Please sir, you must be still. These wounds need tending to.” Sango said.
“My wounds are mere scratches compared to those of the people in my village. Please! You must help us or we will all die.” The man was frantic, almost delirious from loss of blood. “We were attacked by demons. All of family and friends are there. Please.”
“Sir,” said Miroku. “We will see what we can do for your village. For now, you must be taken care of. If you go into the next room, I'm sure Lady Keade will tend to you.” After a bit more coaxing, Miroku and Sango managed to get him into the next room.
“So, what will we do?” asked Sango.
“We'll help him.” They jumped realizing InuYasha was in the room.
“I… InuYasha? Since when have you been so anxious to help humans?” asked Miroku.
“Since now.” He replied shortly.
“But… why?” Asked Sango.
InuYasha stared at her then said, “It's what Kagome would've done.” Sango and Miroku nodded and began preparing to leave.

“How are you feeling Keiko?” Chieko asked entering the hut.
“Much better, thank you.”
“Feel up to a walk?”
“Definitely!” Keiko said getting up and almost tripping over Apple in the process. She followed Chieko outside and looked around. It was a beautiful day but there was a feeling of foreboding in the air.
After meeting many of the villagers and enjoying a small lunch, they headed back to the hut. The two were having a nice conversation when Keiko suddenly stopped.
“What is it?” asked Chieko.
“Do you feel that?”
“What?”
Keiko stood for a moment then turned and pointed to the sky. A large bird-like demon was flying strait at them. “That! Duck!” she pulled Chieko to the ground as the demon soared over them.
“It'll destroy the village!” screamed Chieko. As the demon turned back toward them Keiko searched around. She spotted a bow and some arrows and, without thinking, grabbed them, aimed, and fired. The power of the arrow was amazing. It was encompassed in a bluish energy as it streaked through the bird, killing it instantly.
“Wow!” said Chieko. “That was amazing! Were you a priestess in your past or something?”
Keiko stared at the spot her arrow had struck. She was also surprised. “I… I don't know.”
