Chapter 4: Two years missing you

InuYasha sat in his usual tree outside the village. As he stared out at the rising sun he found himself thinking yet again of the girl he hadn't seen in two years. He closed his eyes as their final words to each other played in his mind for the millionth time.

“Kagome. Hold on.”

“I…I can't. I'm slipping. I love you”

His eyes snapped open. He'd heard those words so many times yet this was the first time he fully comprehended what she'd said. He played through it again to make sure. `Yes. She really said it. She actually said she loved me' He had a moment of happiness and then sighed again. It didn't matter. Not anymore. She was gone. `Why didn't I realize it sooner. I should have told her how I felt.'

“InuYaaaasha!” He came to his senses and saw Shippo bounding toward him. “C'mon. Let's go.”

“What? We have another mission already?” he jumped down.

“Yup!” The two made their way back to the village where Miroku and Sango were waiting for them.

“So what is it this time?” InuYasha asked the newly wedded couple

“A village in the north has been having trouble with some vanishing demons for about a year now.” Replied Sango.

“Vanishing demons?” Shippo questioned curiously.

“Well they don't really vanish but their extremely good at hiding and are hard to find.”

“A year? Why didn't they contact us sooner?” InuYasha asked.

“Well they have a miko who usually can get rid of them but things are starting to get out of hand.” The group headed off toward the north.

It took little more than two days to get there. At the end of the second day they came to a large hill.

“The village is on the other side,” said Miroku. Looking forward to a good meal and some rest they started the climb. As they neared the top they heard a noise and stopped. A large horse, almost twice the size as normal came at them over the hill. Kirara transformed and headed strait toward the creature. They stopped with about a yard between them.

“Apple!” a figure wearing a green cloak and hood ran toward them. “Apple! What do you think you're doing?” She reached them and put her hand on the horse demon then looked at the odd group before her. “Sorry about that. He doesn't like strangers coming into the village.” She looked the horse in the eye with a frown and he suddenly transformed into a smaller version about the size of a dog.

Kirara did the same and returned to Sango's side. The hooded woman continued to speak. “I take it you are the exterminators I sent for.”

Miroku stepped forward. “I am Miroku. This is my wife,” he smiled with pleasure at calling her that. “Sango, and our companions Shippo and InuYasha.

“I am Keiko, the miko of this village.” She reached up and removed her hood to reveal a young face with bluish-gray eyes and deep black hair pulled back in a bun. The group said nothing but simply stared at the all too familiar face.
