Chapter 5: Hot Springs and Ramen

“Well… um…” it was an awkward moment. The group was still staring at Keiko who was starting to feel a bit nervous. “Why don't we head down to the village. We've set up a room for you and dinner should be done soon.” She look at them and turned back to the village with Apple at her heals.

Miroku, Sango, and Shippo looked at each other and slowly followed her. InuYasha simply stood there staring after her. `No, it couldn't be her… could it?' he thought to himself. Then he followed but made no effort to catch up to them.

When they reached the hut they'd be staying in Keiko left and the group began to settle in. It was a while before anyone spoke. Then Miroku said, “Mmmm, something smells good.”

Shippo jumped up a sniffed the air. “Yeah! It smells like… Ramen!”

“Don't be silly Shippo. There couldn't be any Ramen here… though it does smell kinda familiar. “ Sango looked at InuYasha who didn't seem to notice anything at all but was lost in thought.

“Dinner anyone?” Keiko had returned and was carrying a big pot of soup that looked like Ramen. Behind her another girl was carrying several bowls. “This is my friend Chieko. She'll be joining us tomorrow when we go out to find the demons.”

InuYasha looked up for the first time. “What do you mean `us'? I don't recall anyone inviting you to fight with us.”

“Looks like someone's back to his old self” Miroku whispered in Sango's ear.

“Excuse me? I've been fighting these demons for a year now. I know them better then anyone else around here. If you even hope to find them then you'll need me to go with you.”

“Feh. What about her? Why does she need to come?”

“Chieko is a skilled fighter and has lived here all her life. She knows these forests like the back of her hand.”

“Great, just two more people I have to waste my time protecting.” InuYasha mumbled to himself and turned away.

Dinner went on without on fine and to the group's pleasure; it tasted like Ramen too. When they were finished Keiko and Chieko got up to leave. Keiko paused at the door. “Sango, Chieko and I are heading down to the Hot Springs. Want to come?”

“Sure! Sounds great! I'll be there in a second.” Keiko left and Sango turned to the boys. “You guys better not come around trying to peek” she looked pointedly at Miroku who looked like he'd been thinking of doing just that. She then turned and left.
