Chapter six: Could it be her?

 

InuYasha sat in a tree just outside the village. He had a lot to think about and most of it didn't make sense. He'd been wondering what had happened to Kagome for two years and suddenly they meet up with a girl who not only looks like her but acts a lot like her as well.

 

`Is it possible?' he thought. `Is there even the slightest chance that it could be her?' He sighed. `No, if she were she would know and would have come back by now.' But a little thought came to the back of his mind. `What if she hit her head? Lost her memory? I'll just have to find out more about her, that's all.'

 

He settled back into the trunk of the tree, preparing for a good night's rest. Just as he was closing his eyes, a small voice called out. “InuYasha…” He looked up to see Shippo on the branch beside him.

 

“What?”

 

“Um…Does Keiko seem… well, familiar to you?” InuYasha smiled slightly. He'd grown close to the kitsune over the past two years. He was extremely smart for his age and InuYasha wasn't surprised that he too had realized the similarities were more then just a coincidence.

 

“You noticed too huh?”

 

“It wasn't hard after listening to the argument you had with her. She talks just like Kagome. Miroku says it's just a coincidence but it seems like something more then that.”

 

“Yeah, I was waiting for here to yell `sit'. There's definitely something going on here. We've just got to figure it out.”

 

“Do you think it could be her?”

 

“I don't know, Shippo.”

“Hey, are you two gonna come down or do I have to go up and drag you off to bed?” It was Sango. He hair was wet from the spring and she seemed to have had a good time.

 

“I'm coming!” said Shippo bounding down from the tree.

 

“InuYasha?” Sango called to him.

 

“I'll sleep up here tonight.” Sango looked up at him in surprise. It had been a while since he'd slept in a tree.

 

“Suit yourself.” She and Shippo went toward the hut where Miroku was already asleep. InuYasha turned his attention to the two other figures coming back from the spring.

`She looks even more like Kagome with her hair down' he thought and with a picture of Kagome in his mind, he drifted off to sleep.
