Chapter 16
Bad Memories
<Dream>
Keiko clung to whatever she could as the mountain crumbled beneath her. She didn't know how she'd gotten on a cliff in the first place but she knew that if she didn't grab onto something quickly, she would plunge to her death.
Suddenly she felt a firm hand wrap around her wrist. She looked up into the golden eyes of InuYasha.
“Kagome… Hold on.”
`Kagome? Oh right… That's my name. Is this… how I lost my memory?' She glanced down to the river hundreds of feet below. Instantly she became dizzy. Looking back into the face of the hanyou above her, she felt words form in her throat and force their way out of her mouth.
“I… I can't… I'm slipping. I love you.”
As she tried to figure out why she had said those words, she felt her hand slip from InuYasha's grasp. The last thing she heard as everything went black was sinister laughter coming from the top of the cliff.
<End dream>
Keiko opened her eyes to find herself lying on the forest floor. InuYasha was sitting nearby poking a stick into a dying fire.
Keiko thought back to the dream she'd just had. `Well… that solves one problem. Now I know what happened to me but… was InuYasha laughing…?' She shook her head. `No, it was probably my imagination.'
“Your awake, good let's go.” InuYasha said suddenly. He'd been getting bored waiting there and was becoming impatient.
“Huh? Um… okay.” Keiko rose to her feet slowly. “How long was I asleep?”
“More then a day. Weak humans… If I'd known you were going to sleep that long I'd have just left you here.”
“Sure, whatever.” Keiko decided to ignore his arrogance.
“Really, I don't know why I agreed to let you come with us. You done nothing but cause trouble.”
“Excuse me?” So much for ignoring. “Who was it who told you how to deal with the vanishing demons?”
“Exactly! The only thing you're good for is knowing how to find those things. Other then that you just get hurt and get in the way.”
“Oh! Is that all I am? Your demon detector? Do you always do this, use what you need and dump it out when you're done with it?” Keiko was becoming angry. “Are you gonna dump me off a cliff when you're done with me this time?”
“What?”
“Let me make this clear mister. I am not anyone's detector of anything! I'm not your demon detector and I am definitely not you Shikon detector! Got it?” Keiko turned on her heal and stomped off. She was angry.
It took InuYasha a moment to comprehend what she'd just said. “You… you remember?”
“Yes, I remember!” Keiko shouted turning back toward him. “How could I not remember… with you… and the others … right here… and…” She could feel her eyes filling with tears and tried to wipe them away. Unable to control her emotions she looked back at the hanyou angrily. “Why do you care anyway?” She shouted. “You never cared about me! You were just using me to get your stupid jewel! Well you have the jewel now don't you? So just leave me alone okay! Just leave me alone!”
She turned to leave again. InuYasha saw this and grabbed her arm. “Kagome…!”
“Osuwari!”
InuYasha slammed into the ground. Keiko stared at him for a moment then hung her head. “I'm going home.” She murmured, then turned and left the clearing.
InuYasha managed to pull his face up out of the dirt in time to see her disappear into the woods. “Kagome…”
