Kagome opened her eyes to find herself staring at the dirt. How'd I get on the ground? She wondered. She distinctly remembered climbing up the tree and falling asleep in InuYasha's arms. Unless… It wasn't all a dream was it? She glanced around and spotted the hanyou walking out of the woods. Presumably he had gone out to relieve his bladder.
“Good morning!” He called as he got closer. “Guess what?” He didn't give her a chance to respond as he twisted her around and leaned her down so that the ends of her hair brushed against the ground. Their faces were mere inches apart as he whispered “You're mine.” He then captured her lips in a kiss to rival the one they'd shared the previous day.
After a few moments, Kagome broke off the kiss. Her face was flushed and her voice hoarse as she gazed into his shining eyes. “Glad to know that last night wasn't all a dream. But what makes me yours?”
InuYasha gently placed her back on her feet with a cocky grin. “You said, and I quote, `If I'm still here in the morning, you can take it as a yes.'”
Kagome stepped away from him with her own teasing grin. “Ah, yes. But as I recall, I woke up on the ground this morning.”
“You did.” InuYasha admitted. “However, when I woke up we were both in the tree and you seemed to be quite content to stay there for the rest of the day. Meaning, I win.”
The miko was about to reply with her own comeback, but he cut her off with another kiss. “You're mine and that's that. Now, what should we do today?”
Kagome took a second to recover, then replied, “I suppose we should go find the others. They're probably wondering where we are.”
InuYasha seemed to consider this for a moment, then grinned. “I have a better idea. Get on.” He crouched low so that Kagome could climb onto his back. She did so, eyeing him suspiciously. As soon as she was settled he took off into the woods.

“Where are we going?” Kagome asked for the thirtieth time since they'd started traveling two hours ago.
“You'll see when we get there.” InuYasha replied yet again.
“And when will we get there?”
“Soon.”
Kagome let out an exasperated sigh. “You're annoying. Did you know that?”
“Yup! And you're mine.” He replied with a grin.
“You do realize that you're gloating.”
“And why shouldn't? I have every right to gloat. I won you. Not that flea-bitten Kouga. Not that Hojo-thing. No, it was I, InuYasha, that won you and nobody else.”
“Oh! So now I'm your prize. I don't think I like being referred to like that, you chauvinistic pig.”
“Wench.”
“Jerk!”
“We're here!”
Kagome's voice caught in her throat as she stared around the field. It was filled with thousands of late autumn wildflowers. The colors were breathtaking and the scent was intoxicating. In the center of the field stood one small structure.
The Bone-eaters well didn't seem to have been used in along time. It was surrounded by vines and flowers. Kagome broke out of her stupor and started jumping around, squealing, and clapping her hands simultaneously.
“Oh, InuYasha! This is great! I can go back! I can see mom and Souta and grandpa and…” Her face fell suddenly as she stopped her antics. “What if it doesn't work? I mean it hasn't been used in so long what if…”
“It works” InuYasha interrupted then began walking towards the well.
“Huh? How do you know?” Kagome ran to catch up with him.
“I just went there a few months ago.”
“Why?”
InuYasha blushed. “Well, you know… to check on your family and… and sit in your room.”
“My room?”
“Yeah, I… um. I missed you and well, your room is the only place that still smells like you.”
Kagome looked confused for a moment then a look of comprehension lit her face. “Oh, I get it! InuYasha that's so sweet!”
“Feh” With that they both jumped into the well.

“Mom! Souta! Grandpa!” Kagome exclaimed as they walked into the house through the back door. It had been locked but Kagome knew where the spare key was hidden.
“Nobody's home. Why do you think they had the door locked.”
“I know! I was just practicing for when they get here. Think they'll be surprised?”
“They'll think their seeing a ghost.”
“Did you tell them I was dead?”
“Of course I did. I was going to leave them wondering what happened to their daughter. I thought you were dead too.” InuYasha replied remembering the day he had told them.
“Hmm… Glad to know they didn't blame you.”
“Who's saying they didn't?”
“Well, you said you've been back here several times.” Kagome replied as they began climbing the stairs to her room. “If they blamed you I doubt they'd let you back very easily.”
“They didn't know I was here. I hid.”
“Oh.” She replied, opening her door. “Wow, they didn't change a thing did they?” Walking over to her dresser, she began opening drawers. “All my clothes are here too.” She open a few more then stood up with a t-shirt, some shorts, underwear, and a bra. “Ah modern clothes. InuYasha, I'm gonna go get a bath `kay?” She then trotted off to the bathroom.
InuYasha gazed after her for a few moments then sat down an her bed and buried his nose in her pillow. It was a good thing he'd found her when he did. Her scent had nearly faded from it.

After her bath, Kagome and InuYasha went down stairs. Seeing the computer, Kagome decided to find out what's been happening in the world. Clicking on the Internet link she waited for it to load. The date in the corner read October 20, 2001.
“What are you doing?” InuYasha asked, crouching down beside her.
“Checking what I've missed in the two years I've been gone.” The first thing Kagome saw, as the welcome menu popped up, was a little picture in the “News” box. It was scrolling through pictures of different events around the world. The current picture was one of a group of people staring mournful through a chain link fence. The caption beside it read, “Citizens of New York continue to mourn the loss of friends and family, killed in the 9/11 World Trade Center bombings.”
“The what?” Kagome asked, clicking on the picture. After a moment, a web page popped up with an article on it. As Kagome read through the article, her eyes grew wide with horror. “Oh my gosh! That's terrible!”
“What? What's terrible?” InuYasha asked beside her. He hadn't been paying much attention to what she was doing.
“Terrorist from the Middle East, crashed airplanes into the Twin Towers in New York City!” InuYasha didn't seem to understand so she scrolled down to some pictures of the event. He wasn't sure what the airplane-things were but he could tell that when they hit the tall buildings, a lot of people would have died.
“Why would someone do that?”
“Who knows…” Kagome sounded like she was about to cry. “This world… it's so confusing. People kill other people just because their different.”
“They do that in Sengoku Jiadi too.” InuYasha replied, remembering all the times people had tried to kill him because of what he was.
“I know, but it's different here. Over there, things like this don't happen.” She gestured to the computer screen. “Someone can't just kill thousand of people in one blow! They don't have the technology!” Kagome sighed. “It's funny really. I'm always going on about how great this era is, with electricity, and television, and hot baths anytime you want it. I never stopped to think about all the horrors technology has brought with it. Guns, bombs,… Even airplanes! Who would have thought that something like that could be used as a weapon. I mean, I guess people die in plane crashes sometimes, but it's not exactly common. And… and to crash one through a building! On purpose! It's… it's just terrible!” Kagome collapsed against InuYasha in sobs. “I suppose I've just gotten used to the simplicities of the Feudal era.”

“Together at last. Together forever. Were tying a knot, they never can sever. I don't need sunshine now to turn my skies to blue. I don't need anything, anything, anything. I don't need anything but you!”
InuYasha smiled as he flipped of the television. After looking at a few more things on the internet, Kagome and InuYasha had sat back on the couch to watch TV. They'd flipped through several channels before Kagome chose to watch an old movie about an orphan called “Annie”. InuYasha had found the movie to be a bit too cutesy for his tastes, but it had calmed Kagome down and she'd eventually fallen asleep on his lap with Buyo in hers.
His ears twitched as he heard the Higurashi's unlocking the front door. He'd smelled them arrive a few minutes ago and had thought about waking Kagome, but she looked like she needed the rest.
“Hey! Were back!” InuYasha cringed at the teenage boy's loud voice. He was going to wake up Kagome.
“Souta, don't do that! There's nobody here and you're going to wake up the whole neighborhood.”
“Buyo's here.” The boy countered, entering the living room. He stopped when he saw InuYasha on the couch.
“Yes, well I doubt Buyo care's whether or not we're…” Mrs. Higurashi also stopped and stared at the boy they hadn't seen in two years.
“Souta? Mama? What's going on.” The old man pushed his way in front to see why they'd stopped suddenly. When he saw InuYasha he mimicked the motions of his daughter and grandson.
Souta was the first to recover. “InuYasha-nii-chan? What are you…?”
“Demon be gone!” The old man shouted.
“Shush!” InuYasha said, finger to his mouth. “She's asleep.”
All three look, if possible, even more confused at this. Mrs. Higurashi finally decided to speak up. “InuYasha? Who's asleep?”
The hanyou didn't answer but merely pointed to something lying on the couch. As a group, the family move around the couch so they could see what it was.
All three gasped when they saw Kagome's sleeping form on the couch. Buyo jumped down from her lap and went to circle under Souta's feet, but he didn't notice.
“Nee-chan?”
“Kagome.” Mrs. Higurashi breathed. She then turn back to InuYasha. “Is it… is it really her?” InuYasha nodded. “Oh my gosh. How…?” InuYasha gestured for them to move into the kitchen, then carefully stood, propping Kagome's head up with a pillow.

The moment InuYasha shut the kitchen door behind him he was bombarded by questions, none of which he could make sense of. “Whoa! Hold on! Hold on! I can only answer one question at a time!”
Silence settled across them for a moment. He turned to Mrs. Higurashi who spoke first. “InuYasha… how… I mean… I thought she was dead?”
InuYasha took a deep breath and began the story of how he'd found her and how she regained her memory, leaving out the kissing and proposal parts of course. He figured he should let Kagome tell them they were engaged.
When he finished they all looked stunned. After a moment, Mrs. Higurashi swooped down on him and kissed his forehead, before embracing him in an extremely tight hug. “Oh you wonderful, wonderful boy!” She shouted before leaning back to look him in the eye with a smile. “You really are amazing, you know that?”
InuYasha's only reply was “Feh!” as he blushed.
“InuYasha?” The kitchen door opened to reveal a very sleepy Kagome. “Who's shouting?” She looked up then and gasped as she saw her family for the first time in two years. “Mama! Souta! Grandpa!” In an instant they'd all joined together in a group hug.
InuYasha smiled as he watched them. They looked so happy. He chuckled as Kagome, ruffled Souta's hair.
“Hey twerp! You've grown!”
“Yeah, it happens.” The now teenage boy replied sarcastically. “Glad to see you remember me.”
“Of course I remember you! You're my brother!”
“InuYasha say's you forgot everything for awhile there.”
“Yeah well, I'm back now and I remember just about everything.” She smiled at each member of her family then turned to look at InuYasha. “So you told them everything without me, eh?”
InuYasha grinned and moved to stand behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist. “Not everything. I didn't tell them about last night.” Kagome blushed.
“What happened last night?” Mrs. Higurashi asked suspiciously.
“Well…” Kagome began. “InuYasha proposed to me.” This earned a squeal from her mother, a “Way to go, InuYasha!” from her brother, and a scowl from her grandfather.
“And?” her mother questioned eagerly.
“And… I accepted.” There was another round of squeals and congratulations.
“Absolutely not!” The old man shouted. “I will not have my granddaughter marry this… this…”
“Oh, stop it Grandpa.” Mrs. Higurashi butted in. “InuYasha will marry Kagome and that's that.”
“But… but…” the man sputtered.
“No buts Grandpa. InuYasha has saved Kagome's life countless times. And now he has brought her back to us from the dead. I'm sure he will take good care of her.” She took InuYasha's hand and Kagome's hand and joined them together. With a smile she added, “You two were meant to be together.”
Kagome smiled. “Thanks Mama.”
“Your welcome. Now, look at the time it's nearly midnight! Now off to bed, all of you. Tomorrow's gonna be a big day. We've got a wedding to arrange.”
InuYasha took Kagome's hand and together they started up the stairs to her room. He was looking forward to spending another night with his angel in his arms.
“Oh and InuYasha?” Mrs. Higurashi called up to them. He turn around.
“Hai.”
“You will sleep in the guest bedroom tonight. You and Kagome aren't married yet.”
