Chapter Eight: What's Wrong With Kagome?

 

 

"So my woman, what can I do for you?" asked Kouga.

"First off Kouga darling, stop calling me your woman. If anything you'd be my man okay?" Said Kagome.

"I'd love to be your man Kagome thank you for asking." Kouga said in return.

"I wasn't asking but since you mentioned it," Kagome smiled sweetly. "I was thinking, when we met I never really gave you a chance to prove yourself to me because I was so caught up with Inuyasha. But now I have a whole new perspective and I know that was unfair of me. I mean you deserve to have a chance." They stopped beneath a large leafy tree and Kagome looked up at him. "But I also know you have a responsibility to your clan and whenever you come to visit I'll be sure to spend some time with you."

"Kagome, I vow you will be my queen." Kouga went to kiss her but she turned her head aside and his lips clipped her cheek. "Goodbye my queen. Tell dog turd I will be back and he better keep you safe while I'm gone." He left in a cyclone of dirt and wind. Kagome stayed there thinking.

Inuyasha was going crazy not being able to go after Kagome. What if that wolf tried to abduct her? "Sango, go find Kagome."

"She wants to be alone with Kouga." Replied Sango from where she sat playing a card game Kagome taught her with Miroku.

"Miroku, go get Kagome."

"Uh," said Miroku.

"You're not going anywhere Hoshi." Said Sango.

"Sorry Inuyasha." Miroku shrugged.

"Kieade-"

"Don't even say it Inuyasha." Said Kieade.

“Where's Shippou?” He asked irritated.

“He's off with some of the village kids.” Replied Sango. “You might as well just settle in until Kagome comes back.” Grumbling Inuyasha took her advice and sat against the wall. Soon Kagome returned.

“I'm back.” She said in a singsong voice. “Kouga's gone said he'll be back soon though. Where's my darling little Shippou? I brought him chocolate.”

“He's went somewhere with the village kids he should be back soon. Kagome we should talk.” Inuyasha stood and grabbed her arm.

“Don't manhandle me Inuyasha,” said Kagome mildly. “Or you'll be face down in the dirt before you can say sexual harassment.”

“Huh?”

“Let me go.” She clarified. And to everyone's surprise he released her. “Now then we can talk while you walk me to the well, I've got to go home.” She walked away.

“But Kagome how are we supposed to shard hunt if you never stay here?” asked Inuyasha following her.

“I seem to recall someone saying we'd take a break from shard hunting when I came back. Don't worry anyway. I'll clear out some space when I can come. No longer than a week though. And when school starts back up it's my top priority.”

“Okay Kagome.” said Inuyasha meekly. He was starting to scare Kagome by being so meek and obedient. But the truth was the new Kagome scared Inuyasha just a bit. And while he didn't like her he needed her to find the jewel shards. They walked on in silence. When they reached the well Kagome sat down and Inuyasha just stood there waiting for her to speak.

“Well, say something.” Kagome told him. He was really creeping her out. “You're the one who wanted to talk. What do you have to say?” Inuyasha shrugged and remained silent. “If your not going to talk then I'm going.” Threatened Kagome. Inuyasha still said nothing. “Fine then.” Kagome hopped into the well without another word. Inuyasha headed back to the village.

“I wonder at this change in Kagome,” said Miroku. They were all seated in Kieade's hut. Shippou was sulking because he'd missed Kagome yet again.

“Yes,” agreed Sango. “It's nice she's standing up for herself, but she's sort of scaring me.”

“It's all very understandable.” Said Kieade. “Coming here was a big part of Kagome's life. I'm sure now that she's got her memories back she'll return to normal. Though her feelings toward Inuyasha I'm not so sure of.”

“And what's that supposed to mean?” growled Inuyasha.

“I sorry to say it but Kieade's right Inuyasha.” Said Sango. “Kagome really liked you, we could all tell. You really hurt her when you went running to Kikyou every time she showed up. Even when she tried to kill you, you still pledged undying love to her. When you were with Kikyou you showed a softer loving side that you never showed to Kagome. You were always so gruff and rude with her.”

“And She just regained all her memories in two day so those resentful feelings must be magnified.” Added Miroku.

“But we, we talked about the Kikyou thing in her dreams.” Said Inuyasha.

“That was before she actually remembered how she felt when you ran to Kikyou Inuyasha.” Said Shippou.

“Shut up kit.” Inuyasha thumped him on the head. Shippou let out a small cry and scrambled behind Sango. He missed having Kagome to hide behind.
