Chapter 1: A Girl's Curiosity
In a small rural town outside Tokyo, two young girls, both age of 5, Kagome and Sango, best friends, playing together in the playground in the town's central park area. It was a peaceful town, a good 15 or 20 miles away from Tokyo. These girls did everything together, since they were next-door neighbors. Kagome was a cute girl, long black hair that went to her top back. She had common brown eyes but they shown in the lightest speck of light. Sango had long dark brown hair that went to her lower back in a low ponytail and coffee colored eyes similar to Kagome. They went to this park everyday, but today, Kagome's life would be changed forever when she meets a lone half-dog demon boy.
It was near suppertime, and Kagome and Sango were playing tag with some fellow five year olds when something caught Kagome's eye. Under a big white flowering dogwood tree (native tree of Japan), There stood a lone silver-haired boy practicing some fighting techniques. She thought he was lonely and being the sweet girl that she is, she skipped over to the unaware boy with her shiny black hair flittering behind her. Kagome was behind the boy and tapped on the boy's shoulder. The boy turned around to see a little girl staring at him and/or his ears. He wondered why this girl walked up to him and didn't recoil when she saw his ears and claws. She just stood there with curiosity.
“Hi there!” Kagome said in her high but gentle voice.
“Uh, hi.” He just stood there, in confusion. The other kids didn't approach him because of fear, but not this girl. “Why are talking to me”?
“Because you are by yourself and that's no fun.” She said sympathetically. “What's your name”?
“The name's Inuyasha.” he said shyly and turning his head.
“Mine's Kagome. I'm 5 years old. What about you?”
“Umm…uh, 7.” He didn't know how to hold a conversation because no one but his mother talked to him. This girl didn't run nor make fun of him, more like trying to make him talk.
“Oh. You have cute ears. What are you, a dog?” Kagome said now paying her attention to his cute, white, fluffy, ears.
“Half-dog actually. I'm half demon and half-human.” Inuyasha said it so quickly that he turned around, knowing she would either scream or run away. But to his surprise, she still stood there having a happy expression on her face.
She squealed in delight. “That's so cool!” She approached him and asked “Can I touch them?” pointing to his ears. Inuyasha hesitantly backed away. `Why is this girl so friendly? Why would she wan to touch my ears?'
“Please, Inu?” Kagome said in her cute, pleading voice, inching closer to the fuzzy ears. `Okay, now she's calling me `Inu', this is getting weird. If she doesn't fear me, then I guess.' He was now starting to blush a light red when her hands came closer.
“Okay, but J-just for a sec-second.” He now blushed harder than ever as her hands touched his ears. She was on her tipsy-toes and she felt them and let them go. “They're so fuzzy and soft!”
“Kagome! What are you doing here, aren't you going to play tag with the others?” Sango yelled as she ran over to the two kids. She stopped when she saw Inuyasha. “Kaggie, who is this?” Sango was now curious.
`Great, now she's also going to want to know what I am'. Inuyasha thought as he turned his head.
“This is my new friend, Inuyasha. He's a half dog demon but also human. Aren't his ears cute?” Kagome said as happy as she can be.
Sango thought for a minute and said with a smile. “Yes they are. Hi Inuyasha, I'm Sango.”
Inuyasha looked to the other girl and thought `what's going on?' He put that thought aside and responded with a little smile “Hi, Sango.”
They heard voices calling for Kagome and Sango. It was their moms. The sun was setting and it was getting late.
“Well, Kaggie, we better go before we get in trouble.” Sango yelled out as she ran to the other side of the playground to where both Moms were waiting for them.
“Coming. Well, I have to go Inu. It was nice meeting you today.” She looked as she turned to look at him right in his eyes, surprised that she didn't notice how beautiful they were.
“Yes, it was nice meeting you and Sango.” Inu said as he also starred into her dark brown eyes.
“Listen, Inu.” he blushed as she said his name. I want to see you again, so if you forget what I look like just look at necklace.” he looked down around her neck as he saw this silver necklace with a pink star joined with a blue crescent moon. “My mom gave it to me when I was born. I call it my `good luck charm' because I never had a bad day when I wear this.” Inuyasha took a good look at it.
“You know, I would like to see you again, too, Kagome. Maybe one day we will meet again.” He said for the first time with a positive feeling.
“YAY! See you Inu!” Kagome yelled back as she ran to her mom waiting for her. She then left the park with her mom holding her hand.
Inuyasha just looked at the girl as she disappeared. `She is really different. Why was she so interested in talking to me? I really hope we meet again.” He then looked up at the setting sun, consumed with thoughts about the little 5 year old girl who made him feel different.
Kagome and her mom returned home, happy and excited about telling her father about her new friend. She ran through the door after saying good-bye to Sango and her mom. Kagome's mother just listened to her daughter telling her about the boy she saw. Her mom couldn't help but smile. She also wondered how her father would react when Kagome told him.
“Daddy, Daddy, guess what!?” Kagome shouted as she ran into the living room where her father was. He was middle-aged, short black hair and brown eyes. He was strict looking but very caring towards his daughter. He was reading the newspaper as Kagome crawled onto his lap.
“Hey, baby-girl. What happened at the park? Did you have fun with Sango?” he said happily as he repositioned her comfortably.
“Yes I did! I also met a really nice boy who had dog ears. He was really nice to me. He even let me touch them!” She said as fast as she could, with a happy smile on her face. As soon as he heard `dog ears', his smile faded away and immediately looked at her with concerned eyes. He stopped her and said
“Kagome, you should know that demons are bad, All of them. I don't want you going near them again. You can't turn your back on them, they will hurt you.” Kagome just looked at her father with confusion.
“Why, daddy?” She was now thinking about Inuyasha and the final words they spoke to each other.
“You might not understand now, but when you're older, you will grasp the true meaning of this talk.” Her father told her. She was now filled with sadness, confusion, and elusive thoughts. Will she Inu again?
`I want to, but what daddy said, it's not making any sense to me at all. Inuyasha was nice, not bad. If he was bad, then he would have done something bad to me. I don't know.' Kagome thought as she went to follow her father for dinner.
