Chapter 2: 11 Years Past

“Kagome, hurry up before the mall closes!” Sango yelled as she and Ayame were waiting for their best friend to come out of her house. “Coming!” Kagome yelled as she ran out of her house to see her two best friends at the edge of the sidewalk.

Kagome, Sango, and their other friend, Ayame now at the age of sweet sixteen, were walking to the town's mall for back to school shopping.

“Can you believe that 16 years have flown by?” Sango asked as she thought about the past.

“Yeah, I know, next we know we will be in college and having boyfriends to think about.” Ayame responded. She had her own boyfriend, but last year, he dumped her for some other girl. It still made her sad. Kagome was in deep thought, also thinking about her past, with one lingering thought more often than others: Her childhood encounter with Inuyasha.

“Earth to Kagome, are you in there?” Sango said as she waved her hand in front of Kagome's face. Kagome snapped back to reality.

“Yeah, just thinking too.” She looked at her best friends. Sango knew Kagome too well to not know what she was thinking about.

“You're thinking about him again, aren't you?” Sango smiled, knowing she got her cornered.

“I-I don't know what you mean, Sango. You think that I always think about him, don't you?” Kagome suddenly said, blushing deeply red so that they wouldn't know that Sango was right.

“I knew it! No wonder you have turned down every boy who's asked you out on a date, you don't want to go with anyone but HIM!” Sango laughed as she knew she struck her weak spot. Ayame just smiled and nodded her head.

“Now that you mention it, I haven't seen you on any dates with anyone, and you're always daydreaming about something. Now I know why.” Ayame added as they walked up to the malls' entrance.

Kagome was just silently blushing as her two friends teased her and laughing. She was about to blow her top when she saw another friend, Miroku. She thought this would be good payback for Sango, since she knew that Sango has had a crush on him since the 7th grade. “Miroku, over here!” She called out.

Ayame and Sango stopped to look over at Miroku, who was rapidly approached them. Sango knew why Kagome was doing this. She knew Miroku was her weakness, and now Kagome was calling him over to get back at her. `Why? Why does he have to be here now of all places!?' Sango thought. `I'm going to get you back, Kagome, just wait!'

“Hello, ladies. What brings you here?” Miroku asked them as they continued to walk through the mall. Sango blushing, she tried to avoid eye contact with Miroku. But Miroku was walking right beside her and staring at her.

“Just school shopping Miroku, what about you?” Ayame asked getting his attention away from Sango.

“Just hanging, passing the time until school starts, what a drag. I'm just waiting for one of my good buddies to move back here. He's moving back again after all these years and will be attending our school.” He told them as he moved his hand lower on Sango's backside.

Sango felt his lowering hand and grew very, very angry; you could see her face about to explode. “Miroku…” Sango said very calmly. “Yes, Sango?” He thought she was about to tell him something sweet, but when he turned to face her, he barely saw her hand whack him against the head, hard.
“YOU LECHER, YOU WOMANIZER! HOW DARE YOU TOUCH ME?!” She screamed as she continued to whack him against the head. Kagome and Ayame stood back as they knew Sango was butt-kicking when she was angry. As soon as she was done, she walked back to where they were standing and continued to walk into one of the store, leaving a very bruised and unconscious Miroku on the floor, with swirling eyes.

As they started to search for new clothes, Kagome was deep in thought about who Miroku was talking about before the pounding Sango gave him. She put her hand to her necklace as she thought about the 11 year old incident:
“Listen, Inu.” he blushed as she said his name. I want to see you again, so if you forget what I look like just look at necklace.” he looked down around her neck as he saw this silver necklace with a pink star joined with a blue crescent moon. “My mom gave it to me when I was born. I call it my `good luck charm' because I never had a bad day when I wear this.” Inuyasha took a good look at it.
“You know, I would like to see you again, too, Kagome. Maybe one day we will meet again.”
She kept that last conversation in her heart, believing that she would see him again. Even though she was only 5 years old, she remembered it very well and also what her father said that day:
“Kagome, you should know that demons are bad, allof them. I don't want you going near them again. You can't turn your back on them, they will hurt you.”
She knew what her father said was true, but not Inuyasha. He was different, somehow. `Maybe not all demons are bad.' She thought as she looked at simple, yet elegant clothes. Sango and Ayame both knew that “deep thought” look anywhere. They knew that she likes, maybe even loves this guy, even though it was 11 years ago.

“She really thinks about this guy a lot. We both know she has feelings for him.” Ayame whispered to Sango, nodding to what was being said.

“I was there with her when she met him. When I was leaving the park that day, she was still with him, showing her necklace to him. She told me in later years that she showed it to him because she didn't want him to forget about her. I know she likes him, but I'm also worried because of her strict father. If he knew…” Sango told Ayame as they were walking towards the cashier with their new clothes.

“It would be big trouble if they did see each other again. He wouldn't let her near him, let alone see him. I think it would break her heart.' Ayame answered back.

Kagome walked up behind them. “Hey guys, what's up?”

Sango and Ayame turned around to see a smile on her face, knowing what she was feeling inside.
“We were just talking about school.” Sango lied, keeping a straight face.
“Neat clothes, Kagome. You have great taste.” Ayame told her, changing the current subject.

“Thanks. Now let's get going we got 6 more store to check out.” Kagome said as they finished paying for their merchandise and left the store.

After the shopping bonanza, they were walking home, when Kagome suddenly said
“You know Sango, I have a feeling that Miroku might ask you out this year.” Sango quickly turned her head to her.
“Like that's going to happen! He flirts with every girl in our grade!” She said yelling with a slight blush on her face. Kagome and Ayame just laughed at their blushing friend.

“I hope that I will have a new boyfriend. I can't believe that jerk dumped me for a snot-nosed cheerleader!” Ayame said angrily, then changing back to her casual self. “I hope you can get a boyfriend this year, too, Kagome”.

“You know as well as I do that she only wants one boyfriend, Ayame.” Sango said.' What if Inuyasha does come back again? It will be a shocker for her.' Kagome looked up but only smiled, knowing who she meant. Looking up the beautiful sunset, she had high hopes for the new school year. Unknowingly, the person that Miroku was talking about was indeed the same person that Kagome and Sango met 11 years ago: Inuyasha. There were two weeks left until the school year began. There was going to be a surprise encounter on the first day of school that Kagome was not going to be expecting.
