Chapter 3: New Year and A New Relationship

The first day of school came faster than anybody thought. Kagome woke up to the music of her radio alarm clock. 6:15. she knew she had to get up to start her junior year with all her friends, except Miroku, who was a senior. She quickly got up to pick out her outfit, which were all new: A comfortable pair of light blue jeans with a cherry blossoms at the cuffs, An aqua green T-shirt with splashes of gold and black in the middle, A cute jean jacket to with it, and black low heeled sandals. She wasn't one of those girls who got elegantly dressed with tons of make-up and tons of jewelry, looking like a slut. She didn't even like those kind girls who approached every cute boy and flirts with them, like a certain group of girls who went to her school, which she, Sango, Ayame, along the rest of the school, called “The Make-Up Dolls”. What a bunch of skanks. She put them out her mind and took a 10 minute shower, brushing her teeth, and applying a little eye shadow and lip gloss, but not too much. She liked putting on make-up once in a while. After that, she went down to be greeted by her mom, dad and her little brother, Souta, who was 11 years old and starting the 5th grade, who was busy eating a big pile of pancakes. “Are you ready for your junior year? You know the boys will be starting to ask you out on dates.” Her mom told her as she got out some quick orange juice to go. Kagome stopped in her tracks. She turned around and glanced at both her parents, who were waiting for her to respond. To tell the truth, she didn't know what to say.

“Yeah, all set. I'll be on my guard every minute.” She responded, glancing at them with reassuring eyes.

“You know, baby-girl, I can't believe how much you've grown into a lovely young lady. If any boys try to make any wrong moves, I'll kick them out and into the depths of Hell!” Her father told her. She knew he was very protective of her and she expected that he would say that kind of thing. “Don't worry, Dad. I'll be fine.”

“Yoo-hoo, Kagome let's go!” Kagome heard Sango yell from the front steps.

“Coming, Sango. Bye guys, see you later!” She shouted she ran out the front door with her Bento and backpack. She ran out to see both Sango and Ayame, too wearing their new school outfits. Sango had a white cute long sleeved shirt that read “Back Off! in
Golden cursive writing with a khaki pants also with cherry blossoms at the cuffs. She hung her jacket on her shoulder with a low ponytail. Ayame was wearing a pink halter top also with khaki pants, minus the cherry blossoms with a high ponytail. They complimented each other and started walking the 15 minute walk to Hokusei (Northeast) High.

“This is it, you guys! Another year of pleasure and displeasure, and I don't know what's going to happen first.” Ayame said as they were near the high school.

“We know for a fact that the “Make-Up Dolls” will be showing off their sleazy looks and looking for the next cute boy. Kikyo will definitely be after you this year, again, Kagome. She's been after you since you accidentally kicked her in the nose on the swing set in the second grade.” Sango informed her friend.

“She needs to get over herself, already. I told her I was sorry that day, but she stills thinks I kicked her on purpose. She needs to get a life.” Kagome said annoyed and a little angered that she won't stop pestering her. She wasn't going to put with it. It was a stupid incident that wasn't important anymore. She didn't take her crap back then and she won't put up with it now. It was the only thing that she didn't look forward to.

They came upon the entrance of the 3 story high school. It was the only high school in the town and the surrounding towns so that many students could go here. The school was big no doubt, you get easily lost if you didn't know where you were going. The three best friends walked in and saw many students standing in the hallways and chatting with old friends from last year. They quickly walked up to the hallway full of lockers. Thankfully, their lockers were right next to each other. Stopping by their lockers, Miroku saw them and approached them with a small smile on his face.

“Hey, girls. This year is going to be great!” Since he was a senior, he was over ecstatic. The girls turned around to see him. Sango as usual, turned her head to hide a noticeable blush.

“Shut your flap, Miroku! That's easy for you to say, this your last year. We have one more year to get through, let alone this one!” Ayame said getting annoyed at Miroku's excited attitude. Kagome too, was getting a little jealous, and school hasn't even started yet. Sango just stood there silent, taking a quick turn to her locker and arranged it.
“Okay, Okay, let's not get into a rampage. Anyway, I was waiting for my friend to arrive, you know the one I told you about at the mall and he is also a senior. We have the same homeroom so I was anxiously leaning against the lockers.” Miroku chatted away and asked to see their schedules and his theirs. Kagome saw his schedule and turned an evil grin to Sango, who was staring back at her.

“No, you can't be serious!” Sango screamed as she yanked Miroku's schedule out of Kagome's hand and read it, trying to hide her ever red blush which didn't dissipate. And sure enough, He had the same homeroom! `What bad luck! I get to sit in the same room with that lecher for an hour! This day can't any worse.' Sango thought very angrily and slightly embarrassed.

“You know Sango; I think you should walk with him to class. You know, get to know each other.” Kagome told as she was holding back a laughing fit. Ayame too, was holding back her own laughter.
“You Guys!” Sango yelled at them. Miroku had the same idea, smiling with a perverted grin. To Sango's disappointment, the warning bell rang, letting the students know they had 10 minutes to get to their first class.

“See you two later! Kagome and I have the same homeroom and it's on the third floor so we better hustle!” Ayame called back as she and Kagome quickly ran to avoid Sango's death glare/blush, now laughing their heads off. Sango just stood there with Miroku, feeling a need to punch a certain somebody. `Note to self, kill my best friends the next time I see them, and to avoid Miroku's wandering hands, if he touches me, send him straight up through the ceiling and into space!' She told herself as she turned to Miroku, who kept that smile on his face.
“I'm warning you Miroku, if even think about touching me, you're going get a beating far worse than you did at the mall! You get my point?”
She warned him as she gave him a warning stare that could tell any one to back off.
Miroku's face turned to a “Please don't hurt me” look and decided to heed her warning signs, for now.

“Sure, whatever you say, Sango-Chan.” `What did he just call me? I ought to punch him right now!' But before she had the chance to raise her fist, they started walking the opposite of Kagome and Ayame, and Miroku suddenly ran to see someone walking towards them. Sango watched as she saw Miroku greet the person. `That must be the friend he was talking about. Wait a minute, he somehow looks familiar.' Sango thought as she walked up to the two boys, trying to remember who he is.

“Hey Sango, over here. I want you to meet my best pal, Inuyasha. Inuyasha, this is Sango.” Miroku told her as he introduced them.

Sango nearly blinked three times before it clicked. “Nice to meet you, Sango. You look familiar. Did you use to play at the central park playground?” Inuyasha asked. Sango was shocked not to mention trying to compose herself. “Yeah, I used to. I knew you also looked familiar. It was about 11 years ago.” She replied, still trying to realize that this is the same boy that Kagome has a crush on for a long time.

“So you two know each other, huh? If you know Sango, then you might know Ka-“ Miroku was cut off when Sango suddenly clamped his mouth.
“Sorry Inuyasha, excuse us for a minute.” She said as walked over a good 10 feet away with Miroku still covered by her hand. Inuyasha looked strangely at the two, thinking that this girl might be able to set him straight, knowing him the way he was with cute women. Remembering Sango, he suddenly thought of that other girl who was with her, the one that suddenly began talking to him. `Kagome, I think it was.' Like Kagome, he also thought of seeing her again. He had a small happy smile, hoping he did see her here.

“What is it, Sango; I could hardly breathe as you dragged me over here!” Miroku said as he gasped for air.
“Never mind. Listen.” She suddenly got into a whisper. “That guy, Inuyasha, is the same exact kid me and Kagome met when we were 5. Kagome hasn't forgotten about him since that day, wondering if she should ever see him again.” Miroku, with a surprised look on his face as he and Sango glanced over at the 6-foot silver haired, half demon, who was deep in thought.
“You know he did mention something about seeing someone again that he met so long ago. Now I know who. What do you think going's to happen when Kagome finds out?” He curiously inquired.
“We are not going to let either of them know. Let's make their encounter a surprise.” Sango said evilly. `Now you're going to get it, Kagome, for getting me back at the mall!' “I see where you're getting at. Why don't we arrange around lunchtime? I'm sure they would like get reacquainted.” Miroku said, who now was grinning as happily as Sango. “Well, we all have the same lunch, so yes. I text Ayame and let her in on the situation. She will probably freak, but Ayame will keep it until lunchtime.”
“Deal, now let's get to class before we're late.” Miroku told her, smiling in the inside that Sango could think of such a thing. They walked back to where Inuyasha was standing, impatiently.
“What took you guys, I swear...” He said mumbling under his breath.
“Oh you'll find out soon enough.” Miroku told his confused but impatient half dog demon friend. `That's for sure!' Sango thought, grinning as they walked to their homeroom as Sango was text ting Ayame a long Text message on her cell about what's going to happen. `I can't wait to see the look on Kagome's face when they meet.' She laughed evilly.

Ayame and Kagome were walking up the stairs to the third floor when Ayame felt a buzzing in her jacket pocket. She pulled out her cell phone and flipped up to see a recent text message from Sango. It read: Emergency! She quickly clicked the little envelope containing her text messages and read the recent text. As she read it, not believing her eyes, reading it again until she let out a gasp. They reached the third floor and had 5 minutes to get to class, Kagome was wondering what Ayame was smiling about.

“Another text message, from who?” Kagome curiously asked her. Ayame flipped her phone back shoved it back in her pocket. She had to come up with something.

“Uh, it was Sango, saying that she was being tortured mentally by Miroku. She wants to pound him.” Ayame lied, keeping a calm face, even though she was screaming inside. Kagome was not easily convinced.
“If that was the case, why did you gasp? It's no surprise that Sango wants to kill him for pestering her.” As they approached their homeroom, they stopped at the entrance. Ayame was getting cornered and quick. She knew her best friend wouldn't stop until she got some truth.

“It was really shocking what he just did to her. Apparently she nearly knocked him out, but a teacher saw what was about to happen and told them to stop. You can say she is about to explode.” Ayame said trying to sound as convincing and calmly as possible. Kagome to Ayame's relief, she seemed to be convinced.
“Oh, that lecher will never learn.” She said as they took seats in their homeroom, which was Math, Pre-Calculus to be exact.
`I don't know what's going on, but Ayame, Sango, and maybe even Miroku has something up their sleeve that I don't know about. It was weird when she saw the text message and chuckled a little bit. Something tells me that I `m going to find out somehow, one way or the other.' Kagome thought as the final bell rang and class had officially begun.

After that long class, not even waiting for Kagome, Ayame dashed out into the hall and immediately called Sango. She had to stay away from Kagome as far as she could for the duration of the call.

“Sango, are you sure about that text message you sent me? I couldn't believe it at first, how did you find out?” Ayame screamed into her phone as she quickly caught her breath from saying it too quickly.

“I'm dead sure, Ayame. It happened after you two took off. We bumped into him on our way to class since we all have the same homeroom. I nearly collapsed and suddenly recognized who it was. I pulled Miroku over to tell him that was definitely the guy Kagome has a crush on. We think it would be sweet if they Suddenly” met up at lunch. I and Miroku thought it was very clever. Inuyasha is a little suspicious as to what was going on.” Sango answered her question.

“Kagome is getting suspicious about this too. You know after she finds out, we better scoot away or we will get pounded to the ground by both of them.” Ayame suddenly shivered at the thought of her, Sango, and Miroku running for their lives from two angry people. Sango had the same thought. “Uh-oh, Got to go, Sango, She coming! See you next class.” Ayame said as she put her phone back into her pocket just in time to see a very angry Kagome come up to her.

“Mind explaining why you took off after class without waiting for me?” She said as she impatiently tapped her foot, waiting for her answer.

Ayame didn't know what to say when she saw her friend angry like this. “Why don't we go to class and see Sango huh?” Ayame said as she suddenly dashed off. Kagome yelling and running behind her
YOU get back here right now, Ayame, or experience a world of pain for the both of you!” They kept running, swerving to miss other students and them jumping out of the way of the death chase.

Ayame ran into the class, immediately hiding behind Sango, panting hard.
“She`s going to kill us if we don't do something and quick!” Sango had a `scared to death' look as knew what she was talking about.
“Miroku has the same problem as well. Inuyasha was last seen taking off after Miroku as soon as class ended. He looked really pissed, even I was too scared to move. Now we have to deal with Kagome too. Miroku was probably pounded to the ground when he caught up with him.” Sango said shaking as chills went down her spine, knowing Kagome was more than likely going to the same.

“I got both of you, now!” An angry voice growled as she approached the two quivering girls. They both looked to see their best friend with an evil, deadly stare.
“Don't think you will escape now. You better tell me what you two are planning behind my back!!” Kagome was very serious. The people in the room backed away a little bit.

“Look Kagome, You will find out at lunch and believe me, you will be so happy that you will forget about pounding us.” Sango said as steadily as she could with Ayame behind her nodding quickly. They saw as she calmed down and said
“Surprise?” She looked confused. It was the first day of school and nothing was going on. She would find out at lunchtime, just as Sango said, wondering why it was a surprise. Ayame and Sango took a sigh of relief as they all sat down waiting for class to start. `That was a close one' they both thought.

As lunchtime drew near, Sango and Ayame were giggling at was about to happen while Kagome on the other hand, was anxious and nervous. She worked on the assignment that was assigned in the History class as the time drew near. Both Ayame and Sango glanced over at her, noticing her fidgeting, knowing she was nervous.
“She's getting very anxious that she doesn't know what in store is for her and Inuyasha.” Sango whispered to Ayame without getting caught by the teacher.
“I know. This is one of the best things to ever happen and it's only the first day. She'll thank us later.” Ayame whispered back.
“Probably right after she murders us.” Sango added, both shaking at the thought. As the bell rang for the first lunch to start, kids everywhere were starting to head down to the first floor to the cafeteria and outside lawn area. The three best friends walked down and out to the lawn area, where they sat under a big oak tree. Sango and Ayame decided to put the plan in motion. They told Kagome that they were getting their lunch and would be back with Miroku.
“Okay, its lunch and I still haven't seen any surprise yet.” Kagome thought aloud as she settled against the back of the 200 year old oak tree, which was huge and it provided the students with shade. Sango and Ayame gave each other glances as Sango nodded and pulled out her cell and called Miroku.
“It's all set. Kagome is by the big oak and waiting. Let's do this!” Sango sounded as hopeful as she knew this was going to work.
“Check, Sango! We are on our way now to the cafeteria to get the food. I don't know if I could have suffered another pounding from Inuyasha.” Miroku sounded relieved.
“How hard did he beat you?”
“Hard enough, and to top it off, I nearly became deaf when he yelled as he ran after me after first period and as he pounded me!” Sango just laughed and told him nearly the same thing happened to her and Ayame, though they weren't beaten but completely scared to death.
“Ha Ha, very funny. See you!” They both hung up as they walked into the lunch room. They got into the line and as they did, Ayame spotted both Miroku and the `ready to kill' hanyou.
“Hey, over here, you guys!” She called out. They joined them in the lunch line ready to get there food. Miroku gave thumbs up to both Sango and Ayame, and responded with one of their own. This was going to be great.

Kagome waited patiently as she heard her cell phone rang and answered
“Sango, what's going on? I waited for 10 minutes and haven't seen anything yet.” “Ayame, Miroku and I are on our way now. You should see it when we come closer. You are going to love it!” Sango hung up. She put her phone down and stood up. She looked to the entrance and indeed she saw her friends walk out with their lunches, but there was someone else behind them .She couldn't make him out clearly as the three came closer, still not recognizing the person. Who ever he was, he had a blindfold around his eyes, yelling and cursing at the same time. Miroku kept telling him to keep going, and Ayame and Sango smiling as bright as they could be. They both ran to her, while leaving Miroku and Inuyasha, completely unaware of the situation, standing a few feet away from them. Kagome also unaware, was being pushed by Ayame and Sango.
”This is what we planned for both of you.” Miroku said as he prepared to take the blindfold off.
“What are you talking about?” Kagome finally finding her voice, staring in bewilderment at the hanyou, knowing he was one by the ears on top of his head. Miroku finally untied the blindfold as Inuyasha was getting edgy.
“What the hell did you do that fo-?!” Inuyasha yelling out but suddenly stopped to stare at the girl in front of him, both speechless.

The three friends just looked as both were just staring in each others eyes. They thought their work was done they quietly walked over a nearby bench and just watched as drama was about unfold. Kagome was shocked as she stared into Inuyasha's golden eyes which she remembered from so long ago. Inuyasha was also staring at her, eyeing the necklace around her neck. `That's the same necklace that she showed me 11 years ago.' Inuyasha finally speaking up,
“Kagome, is it? I can't believe that we are standing in front of each other once again.” He spoke as calmly as possible, trying not to sound shocked.
“I remember you, Inuyasha.” A silent tear escaped from her eye as she continued.
“Ever since you told me that you would want to see me again, I held it so close to me, believing it with all my heart”, trying not to let more tears escape as she held on to her necklace. They both sat down under the tree.
“I remember those words very clearly, even though it was a long time ago. To tell you the truth, I was hoping to see you once again, because I always felt you were different from other people.” Kagome looked up into his eyes and stared into them once again.
“You really mean that?” She said, not believing what they both were saying. He answered
“Yes I do, Kagome. Even though it was for a brief time, I could sense that you were being concerned. You were nice to me, both you and Sango. After you left, I knew that I was not so alone the world, and I believed that we indeed would see each other again.” Inuyasha told her as he sounded sad, yet confident at the same time. He now noticed the few tears on Kagome's face as she looked away. He put his hand on her shoulder, making her turn around to look him right in the eye.
“You shouldn't cry. You should be happy.” He told her as he affectionately wiped the few tears off her face. She couldn't help but lightly blush as he wiped off the tears.
“I am happy, happy that we are here, now, again, after so long.” She said sniffing a few tears back. Inuyasha pulled back his hand and put it on top of her hand, letting his emotion get the better of him.
“Me too.” She looked at his hand covering hers, knowing that he was being truthful. They smiled at each other. She thought `He's being very affectionate about our first meeting and how I am reacting and feeling about this. He hasn't stopped thinking about me all this time.'
“Thank you, Inuyasha.” was the only thing she could say after all this. He nodded back in response.

At the table, Miroku, Ayame, and Sango watched as the drama unfolded around their friends. Ayame was now in tears.
“This is so romantic. I can't stand it.” She said as she pulled out a napkin and blew a few times. Sango, on the other hand, was watching them with a satisfying look on her face. `I knew it. They do care about each other, even after a long separation.' She felt a few tears run down her face as well. Miroku, noticing Sango's sad and caring face, was smiling at her after what he just saw with the sudden encounter and the affections. `Maybe I could try that with Sango.' he thought about making a move, but thought back at the earlier threat: “I'm warning you Miroku, if even think about touching me, you're going get a beating far worse than you did at the mall! You get my point?”
She warned him as she gave him a warning stare that could tell any one to back off.
He shivered at that thought and put it at the back of his mind. He just kept looking at the soon-to-be couple as they kept talking and neither one of them looking away from one another. Ayame and Sango started to silently cry as they watched their best friend finally meeting the man she often thought about. Inuyasha and Kagome finally saw each other again and it was both a happy and loving moment for both of them.
