Chapter 7: Father Finds Out

“So Kagome, how did your weekend go? Finally had some privacy with your boyfriend?” Ayame asked as they were walking out of the school the following Wednesday. She just looked over her and said,
“Sure did. He took me out to lunch and then went to the park and sat under our tree. It was relaxing I must admit.” Sango and Ayame just nodded at each other.
“You know, this party might be the thing to get you and Miroku closer, Sango.” Kagome told her, having a naughty look on her face. Sango grew as red as a cherry. Ayame just busted out laughing, knowing what she meant.
“Bite your tongue, Kagome! I will not go anywhere near that pervert and you know it! How can you think of something so twisted?!” She shouted angrily and embarrassingly. Now Kagome was laughing hard. Sango just looked away and noticing two people coming towards them.
“Speak of the devil, there's your boyfriend now.” Ayame said, with tears streaming down her face from laughing so hard.
“Shut up or I will kill you!!” She said with a shaking fist.
“Hey girls, what's up?” Inuyasha asked they walked up to them.
“Oh, just walking home like we usually do.” Kagome responded.
“Why don't we drive you home today? It looks like it about to rain.” Miroku asked them, and also hearing a few rumbles of thunder in the distance.
“That sounds good to me!” Sango replied
“Let's go!” Ayame followed
“Right behind you!” Kagome said following the two girls.
The two boys followed the girls to the parking lot and soon led them to Inuyasha's hot red convertible (but with the top on) and got in. Kagome sat up front with Inuyasha, with Sango sitting behind her, with Miroku in the middle and Ayame behind Inuyasha.
“We're going to drop you two off and then drop Ayame off.” He told them. They all nodded. Then it was silent for a few minutes, but it was interrupted when there were screams and two hard slaps. Kagome and Inuyasha glanced back to see two red angry faces and an unconscious Miroku. They just snickered at them.
“He got you too, Ayame? I thought it was mainly Sango he went after.” Inuyasha asked. “That's what I thought too, the sick little weasel.”
“You said it, sister.” Sango replied, with a clenching and unclenching hand.
“How can you put up with him, Inu? I heard you two were good friends but how do you stand being around him?” Kagome inquired while still laughing a bit.
“I'm still asking myself that question.” He answered as they turned into the girls' street. Kagome looked to her house, in time to see her father pulling into the driveway. `Uh-oh, this is not good.' She suddenly started to panic. With Sango reading her mind, she added,
“I don't get it. Your father usually comes home after you get home. This is not a good situation.”
“You said it.” Ayame added as they slowly pulled over to the curb.
“This is it.” She said under her breath. “Inuyasha, stay here, don't come out until I ask for you.” She said as he touched his hand, squeezing it a bit. He nodded. Kagome got out, ready to face her father.
“Here we go.” Ayame whispered to Miroku and Sango. They nodded, both with worried looks. All they could do was watch the truth unfold in front of them.

Her mother hears cars pull up and looks out the window. She sees both her husband and daughter arrive. She also sees who's in the car, and recognizes everyone but the silver haired boy in the drivers seat. She wonders what's about to happen.
Her father sees her as she approaches his car with a combined look of fear, sadness, and despair. He looks over her shoulder and sees who drove her home. He turns to look at the driver and sees dog ears. His emotions turn to hate and disbelief.
“Dad, before you say anything-“, Kagome started to say, but was cut off.
“I see a demon drove you home. Care to explain that one, young lady?” He asked in a very low, harsh voice.
“Dad, that's Inuyasha.” She told him as she motioned him to come out. Her mother from the window gasped at what she saw and heard. `That nice boy who took her out Saturday last, is actually a demon?' He came out and stood behind her.
“He's not full demon, but a half-demon.” was all she could say before she looked up at her father's face. It was filled with rage and nothing else. Sango and Ayame looked with anxiety and Miroku was tapping on his leg and fidgeting, indicating nervousness. Inuyasha just stood behind Kagome, saying nothing at all but looked at Kagome's father. He was staring at him with nothing but pure hatred. He gulped and took a step back. She spoke up again.
“I know what you tell me about demons and I understand that, but-“
“And you dare to date a half-demon behind our backs?! You know how I feel about those filthy creatures and you disobey me, I don't want to hear it!!” He shot at her.
“Will at least let me-“,
“I TOLD YOU I DON'T WANT TO HEAR IT!!” He yelled at her and then drew his hand back and suddenly slapped her, hard. Everyone was aghast at what just happened, but her mother was the most shocked. She saw no reason why he had to do that, and to his own daughter! Her friends just gasped and stared in complete shock. Inuyasha though, didn't know what to say or do as he saw her get slapped, and all for something that could be explained. Kagome put her hand to her face where the red mark was appearing. She looked at her father, staring at him with watering eyes, an indication that she was on the verge of tears.
“I don't want you to hang out with or even see him again, got that?!” He said in a less aggressive voice but still filled with anger. She started to breath heavily, holding her tears back.
“You can't stop me from seeing him.” She responded with a low and doleful tone.
“I'll see you guys later.” She then ran up the stairs and through the front door, unable to hold back the tears any longer. Her father looked at Inuyasha with disgust before saying,
“Get the hell out of my sight.” And he turned to go into the house. Now Inuyasha was pissed, not to mention very upset. Sango and Ayame got out of the car while Miroku waited for his friend. `That was harsh to see. I can't imagine what those two are feeling now.' He thought. Inuyasha just headed to the car without saying a word and drove off with histrionics in his eyes. Sango and Ayame watched the car drive away and stared at their friend's window.
“I didn't see that coming. She didn't deserve that. He wouldn't even let her explain.” Sango simply said.
“I know. I knew something like this would happen. I just didn't expect violence.” Ayame responded. The two girls pondered at what to do next.

Kagome ran up the stairs and to her room and violently slammed the door. She threw her purse and backpack across the room, screaming and crying her eyes out. She held her head, trying not to get dizzy, breathing heavily now. She lay on her bed, throwing her head into the pillow and let the tears come pouring out. `This is worse than I ever thought possible. Now I can't even see him. And I get slapped! I don't even want to talk to my dad ever again! I hate him!' She cried even harder and the more she thought about Inuyasha, the more she let her emotions get the best of her.
Her mother was just as furious as her daughter. Dad came in and just put up his coat, acting like nothing happened. She just walked up to him.
“What the hell was that about?!” She shouted at him.
“I told her not to make friends with demons and she disobeys me. I used a little force and made her realize what she was doing was wrong. That's what.” He said simply. Her mother was now beyond being totally pissed off.
“Slapping her and telling her that she can't see her boyfriend isn't how you settle it. She tried to talk to you but you wouldn't let her!” Her father just looked at his enraged wife.
“I didn't want to hear it, especially when it involves those filthy creatures.” She couldn't take it anymore with her husband's obnoxious and self-absorbed attitude.
“All you think about is yourself and what happened a long time ago! Times change! Our daughter is old enough to make her own decisions about who she hangs out with! Apparently, from what I've seen, she has deep feelings for that boy, and he has those same feelings towards her, and she wanted to tell you. You say you want to protect her from demons, but that doesn't mean you slap her to make her realize that! Now she's crying her eyes out because of you! I just don't goddamn believe what you just did! Maybe you should start thinking about what Kagome wants and about her feelings because you just hurt her, physically and emotionally!” And with that, she marched up the stairs towards her daughter's room, leaving a speechless husband in her wrath of that harsh speech.
Her mom quietly walked up to Kagome's room and leaned her ear against the door. She could hear the cries of her daughter and it sounded like she hasn't stopped since the incident. She took a deep breath and knocked on the door.
“GO AWAY! LEAVE ME ALONE!” She heard her shout.
“Baby, it's me. May I come in?” Her mother asked, despite what she just heard. It was quiet for a moment. Kagome sat up and wiped off her tears,
“Come in mom.” She kept her head down but she still heard her mother walk in and felt her sit right next to her.
“Oh mom, I don't know what to do.” Kagome started crying again but her mother put her arms around her shoulder and to her head, rubbing them both to calm her.
“Shhh, its okay I'm here. Don't cry.” She looked down at her, rocking back and forth.
“You know from what I've seen, I have to ask you a question.” Kagome calmed down a bit to hear what her mother had to say.
“You're in love with that boy, Inuyasha, aren't you?” Kagome stopped, taking in what her mother had said. She sniffed and said
“I know I am mom, ever since that day in the park 11 years ago. I couldn't take him out of my mind after that. Now that I'm with him, I feel so happy and alive. But I knew there was a chance that father was going to reject him; I just didn't want to face it.” Her mom nodded, realizing her daughter's feelings.
“And now, father doesn't want me to see him now and even slapped me for it.” She sat up and wiped her tears that were forming and looked at her mom, hoping for comfort.
“I had a feeling that was the case. I had a very long and serious talk with your dad after he came in and said some things that needed to be said, and I lost it. Slapping you was way out of the question and you didn't deserve that.” Kagome was now listening very intently to why her mom was speaking so emotionally and upset at the same time. Her mother looked at her and continued.
“I never told you this, but I have a demon friend myself that I keep in contact with.” Kagome had a look of surprise on her face, but asked a question.
“Really Mom and Dad let you still be friends?” Mom laughed, smiled and nodded.
“Yes. That's why I got really ticked off when he said that you can't see him anymore, because that wouldn't be fair to you. I remember how hard he took the news when I first told him about it. He was angry at first, but I convinced him otherwise. It took him a while to accept it but in the end he still let me keep close contact with her, one of my closest friends. She's a cat demon. Yuri's her name, a wonderful friend. I tried to convince him that she wasn't evil and it took him a while. That's why I went off on him because that's what he's denying you: the right to keep your demon friend and I don't want you lose that.” That was a very touching and unbelievable story that Kagome heard. By now, her tears were dried on her face.
“Thanks mom, that makes me feel a little better, but dad is so stubborn. He won't let me date Inuyasha now. Not after what just happened.” She told her mom with doubt but a little hint of hope in her voice, pointing out to her bedroom, which was facing the front of the house.
“After what I just told him, He just might see clearly now.” Her mother put a comforting hand on her shoulder, gave her a kiss on the head, and left the room, shutting the door behind her. `Thanks Mom'.
Her mother went downstairs and saw her husband walking up towards Kagome's room. `I hope he knows what he's doing.' She let out a sigh. She heard a knock on the door and opened it to see Ayame and Sango standing there with worried expressions.
“Come in, girls. Are you okay?” They both shook their heads.
“We're more worried about Kagome and how she's taking this.” Ayame spoke out, holding her hands together.
“We saw the whole thing. We saw her run into the house on the verge of tears. We didn't know what to say or do. We saw Inuyasha and Miroku leave. I think he`s beating himself up for what happened. He didn't say anything. Just eyes full of emotions.” Sango explained.
“How is she? Is she okay?” Ayame asked. Mom let out a small smile and sighed.
“I think she's better. I talked to her and she looked calmer, but her father went to talk to her. I wonder what he's going to say to her.” They all looked up the stairs, praying for hope and peace between the two.
Kagome heard another knock on the door and saw her father walk in. She turned away, waiting for another lecture on demons. `He's never going to change his mind. God, I hope Mom was right about him. Please, be true.' She prayed desperately as she clung on to her precious trinket around her neck.
“I had a talk with your mother. She said some things I would never thought she would say.” He started. She looked up into his eyes, seeing not anger, but regret? `What's going on?' She wondered with a face full of confusion.
“Look, I know you told me to stay away from them and I didn't listen. So punish me now.” She blurted out. Her father nodded.
“I know what I did was truly despicable and I let my anger get the better of me, and you have every right to be angry at me.” Now she looked away from him again. `Damn right.' He continued to talk.
“What your mother told me something that hit me right here: In my heart.” He told her, pointing to his chest.
“Even though I was saying I was protecting you, I didn't stop to think about how you felt inside and I let my anger control my actions.” He then clenched his fist, looking at how it shook. Kagome continued to listen but heard how her father was talking to her. She was still praying that somehow, some good will come out of this. She sniffed and held her breath, hoping for a miracle.
“Dad, what are you saying?” She looked up at him once again, now with a more puzzled expression on her face. He looked from his fist to her, seeing that she wanted to know. He took a deep breath, `I never thought I would say this....' and asked her,
“You really love him, don't you?” She nodded. “Yes, I do, more than anything. Nothing will change that, Ever.” She answered his question, now really confused and nervous.
“Well, I now see that I was being rough and didn't consider your feelings. So, what if you want to still date him...” He took a shaky breath,
“Then nothing will stop me from letting you see him again.” Kagome was speechless, not mention in complete shock. She gasped,
“Really?! Are you serious, Dad? You really mean it?!” She yelled out, running to her father with new tears forming. He took her shoulders and nodded.
“Although I still hate demons, I think I'll make an exception for you. I know your mother told you about her demon friend and it wouldn't be fair, now would it? Though I will still keep watch over that boy, I will trust your decision and judgment.” They were both smiling. She then gave him a big, suffocating hug. He then returned the embrace.
“Thank you so much, Daddy.” He heard her say. She then let go of him and ran downstairs in a flash.
“That girl is stubborn, just like her mother. But I wouldn't have her any other way.” He whispered to himself as he slowly followed Kagome downstairs.
Her Mom, Sango, and Ayame heard footsteps coming downstairs. They then saw a smiling, crying Kagome flying towards them.
“What happened up there? First you're upset and now you're as happy as ever!” Mom asked her.
“What did he say? Was it good?” Sango asked excitedly, grabbing Kagome's shoulders, trying to find out. Hr father suddenly appeared and went over to the girls standing beside her mother, with a smile. Her mother sensed what had happened and gave a big smile of her own. Kagome just told them what happened. All three girls screamed and bounced up and down.
“Are you serious?!”
HE said that?” "Oh, my God?!” Sango and Ayame said in disbelief. Kagome just nodded quickly.
“Wait! You have to tell Inuyasha about this! He will be so thrilled to find out.” Ayame pointed out. Sango nodded.
“Yeah, ever since he left, he's been beating himself up and depressed. You should go and see him.” Kagome looked over to her father for approval.
“Go ahead, baby girl. Go and see him.” She smiled and ran out with Ayame and Sango trailing behind her.
“You're right dear. I needed to hear all that you said.”
“And now, she's all bright and happy again, thanks to you.” Mom added.
“Where are they? You have any idea, Sango?” Kagome shouted back as they stopped to think.
“No idea. I'll call Miroku and find out.” She pulled out her phone and dialed Miroku's cell number. She waited a few seconds before he answered.
“Sango, what's going on?”
“Where are you two? We saw you take off and didn't say where you were headed.”
“After what happened, Inuyasha drove to my place. We went in and now he's so depressed he won't talk to me. I need help, Sango.”
“Not to worry. Ayame, Kagome, and I are all on our way.” She sounded triumphant.
“What do you mean? You mean Kagome is with you too?” Miroku sounded shocked.
“Shhh! Don't say anything too loud. Yes, she's with us. She's off the hook now. Her father told her see could see Inuyasha again. All of us couldn't believe it! We wanted to come by and tell the exciting news; we just wanted to know where you were. See you guys in a few!” She hung up and said,
“They're at Miroku's, and I was right about him being depressed. He won't even talk to Miroku. We better get over there, and quick!”
“Right!” The two girls responded as they ran towards where the two boys were. `I can't believe this is happening! It's like I'm dreaming but it's actually happening!', Kagome thought, so excited that she ran faster and faster, holding on to her good luck charm.

At Miroku's house, Miroku just hung up his phone and sighed with relief. He looked over to where his buddy was. He was lying on his back on the couch. `This is going to be great! Should I tell him? Nah, I'll keep it until they arrive.' Inuyasha looked over to Miroku, who had a smile on his face.
“What the hell are you smiling at?” Miroku jumped back,
“Finally, you say something. I thought you were going to remain a mute.” Inuyasha just looked back and continued to stare into nothing.
“I feel like it's my fault. I wish I could have done something.” Miroku grinned and stood behind the couch, looking at the depressed hanyou, with eyes half-closed and ears pressed against his head.
“Don't do this to yourself, buddy. I know you love her, but there was nothing that could be done.” He was holding back a smile and laughter, knowing that everything was resolved and Kagome was on her way. Inuyasha looked up with a Miroku with a What do you know that I don't” look.
“There's something that you're hiding ever since you got off the phone. What is it?!” He jumped up and marched towards Miroku.
“What ever do you mean? I know nothing!” Miroku held up his hands in defense with an innocent look on his face, walking back. As soon as he charged at him, there was a knock at the door. `Perfect timing, Sango!' He dodged past Inuyasha and slowly opened the door, seeing Sango and Ayame, but no Kagome.
“Hey ladies, come in.” He invited them in but pulled Sango to him and whispered,
“Excellent timing, Sango! He was about to pulverize me!” Sighing and wiped off sweat from his forehead.
“Where's Kagome?” seeing that he didn't see Kagome come in. Sango whispered back,
“She's waiting at the front steps, waiting for the right time.” He smiled and nodded. Inuyasha however, was getting agitated about the whispering and smiles.

“Would someone explain me why is everyone in a cheerful mood!?” They all stopped to look at him. They turned to look at the front door, which suddenly opened. There was Kagome, standing there, with a smile staring directly at Inuyasha.
“Kagome, what are you doing here? I thought that-“, He was cut off when she ran at him. He gathered her up and picked her up and twirled her around. The three friends just watched the romance between the cutest couple. He then set her down and gave her a long, sweet kiss. She pressed into him, loving every second of it, while letting tears run down her face. They broke off, needing to catch their breath.
“What's going on?” Inuyasha asked her, noticing her tears.
“My father finally saw the light and saw how I felt about you.” She told him, taking a deep breath. He stared at her with loving eyes, hoping to hear the one thing he's always wanted to hear.
“And what I told him was that… I love you. I truly do love you.” There. She did it. She finally got those words out into the open. And it felt good. Now Sango and Ayame were letting out a few tears.
“This is sooo romantic!! Every time something like this happens, I cry my eyes out!” Ayame yelled while whispering.
“Me too, Ayame, me too.” She responded and turned towards Miroku and clung on to his arm. This surprised Miroku but let out a satisfied look and turned back towards the romantic drama unfolding. `Go for it, dude!' He silently pleaded. `Tell how you feel, now!' He kept on urging, hoping. The pressure was killing him, but he didn't let the girls know that. Inuyasha put a hand to cup her face and leaned towards her.
“I love you too. I always have, ever since we first met that day. I will try to be there for you, always.” After hearing that, she quivered her lips and reached up to kiss him. They parted and pressed their foreheads together, feeling relieved that they were together once again, and that now no one was going to tear them apart again. Now they were staring with so much love and compassion in their faces that they said nothing. Inuyasha just wiped off her few remaining tears. She then put her hand on top of his, closing her eyes and leaning into his hand. `I'll never let you go, not if it kills me!' She promised herself. They both heard clapping and turned to look at Sango and Ayame clapping their hands together.
“Bravo! Bravo!” Sango cheered.
“Now that you two are together again, everything will be back to normal.” Miroku followed, throwing thumbs up at Inuyasha, with a wink. Inuyasha responded with one of his own.
