Chapter two: Changes of a New Beginning

 

Kagome was the first to awake the next morning after the battle. To say the least, she was sore and had a pounding headache. Trying not to disturb the others, she quietly rummaged though her bag for her bath supplies and headed off to the stream in the forest for a bath. Little did she know, a certain hanyou was watching closely and soon followed behind her. Since the Shikon No Tama was gone, Kagome felt a weight lifted from her, like someone had taken the world off her shoulders. Now only a few problems existed in her world. One of them was the question if the Bone Eaters Well was still open, and the other was her relationship with Inuyasha.

 

`Does he love me? After all that we have been through together, you would think that he would hold some sort of emotion for me. But what if it's just a sisterly love? What if he still sees me as Kikyou's reincarnation and nothing more? What if he resents me for being here while Kikyou is gone?'

 

Kagome mentally sighed. Walking through the quiet forest she seemed to notice a bit more about her surroundings than usual. The first was the smell, everything had a distinctive smell to it, she could tell the difference between types of trees and animals that were near by. The next was the way everything sounded; Kagome could hear several deer trotting silently in the distance, the water in the stream at least 20 yards away, gurgling in the morning's stillness. Finally the way everything looked, colors were more vivid, and details were better noticed to her naked eye.

 

Kagome shook her head. `I must be under a lot of stress so my brain is going into total melt down. After a bath and some pain killers I should be better.'

 

She finally reached the stream and quickly undressed, sliding gracefully into the chilly morning water. Kagome dived under the water and reemerged several feet away from the shore. She blithely floated on the surface for a while; deep in thought until a branch snapping in the forest brought her to her senses. She swam back to the shore and looked around the forest line. A flash of red and silver crossed in front of her and before she realized what had happened, Inuyasha was standing in front of her gazing at her with his curious molten eyes.

 

“What the hell happened to you?” Inuyasha sniffed Kagome deeply.

 

Realizing that she was entirely naked Kagome yelped and retreated to the deeper waters.

 

“Inuyasha…SIT!”

 

And with a thud an Inuyasha sized crater was formed, quickly filling with water from the stream that he was standing by. Sputtering Inuyasha jumped back as soon as the spell wore off.

 

“Wench, what was that for?”

 

“What do you think? You shouldn't just appear out of nowhere, especially when I'm bathing you hentai!”

 

“I was only trying to find out what the hell is wrong with you!”

 

“Wrong with me? There is nothing wrong with me!”

 

“Then why do you smell different and have dog ears on your head?” Inuyasha said smugly.

 

Kagome gave him a questioning glance before slowly reaching her hands up to the top of her head. There she felt two fuzzy dog ears. She screamed, making Inuyasha flatten his ears. Kagome covered her face with her hands, only to realize that her hands had long silver claws.

 

Bewildered Kagome swam back to shore.

 

“Inuyasha turn around and cover your eyes”

 

Quickly obeying, Inuyasha turned around and sat on the ground Indian style, waiting patiently for Kagome to get dressed. Kagome yelled again and began to cry, deep sobs causing her entire body to shudder. Inuyasha glanced over his shoulder only to openly gape at the miko.

 

“Inu…yasha….I have a…tail!”

 

Kagome was only in a towel which didn't go over her rear because of the protruding limb. It was long, black, and curled slightly to the right. The same color as Kagome's dog ears and her now back length hair.

 

“Ummm….Kagome…..how could you not notice all this stuff when you woke up this morning?”

 

A teary eyed girl looked up. Thinking to herself she wondered the same thing.

“I don't know, I noticed that everything looked different but I thought it was because of stress, not because I turned into a dog.”

 

Inuyasha flattened his ears. “Is there something wrong with being a dog?” he whispered

 

Kagome's eyes grew wide. “No, it's just that, I wasn't expecting it. Inuyasha don't be mad at me, I didn't mean it like that.”

 

Inuyasha stood up quietly and sauntered into the forest. Cursing, Kagome quickly dried herself off and got dressed. While pulling on her pants she realized that it was a tight squeeze with her tail, so with her newly founded claws, she ripped a hole into the rear end of it. Kagome peered over the edge of the stream to look at her reflection. The girl looking back at her was not what she had expected at all. This girl had raven black hair that slightly shimmered silver, with two fuzzy black dog ears, and instead of brown eyes gazing back at her, a vivid magenta stared back.

 

Kagome splashed her reflection angrily before gathering her things and rushing into the forest after Inuyasha. She followed the beaten path searching desperately for the missing hanyou. After ambling around the forest for a while longer, Kagome decided to go back to Kaede's hut to see if Inuyasha had returned there and to drop off her bath things.

 

Kagome listened quietly outside the hut. She could hear the others waking up (for she had only been gone for about an hour) and quietly talking amongst themselves. No sign of Inuyasha anywhere. Kagome sighed deeply and stepped inside the hut.

 

As soon as she entered an eerie quiet filled the hut, and all morning procedures came to a halt. Kagome looked up and smiled, trying to pretend everything was normal.

 

“Umm, hey guys! Good morning! What are the plans for the day?” Kagome scratched her head and tried to look pleasant.

 

“Ka…go…me? Kagome is that you?” Sango asked hesitantly.

 

Laughing nervously Kagome replied. “Uhh yeah of course it's me. I mean, who else could it be?”

 

“Well you certainly could be anyone looking like that. What happened?” asked Miroku lowering his staff which he had brought up to protect everyone with since he couldn't tell it was Kagome.

 

“I'm not sure, but have you seen Inuyasha? I said something, and it wasn't right of me to say. It came out all wrong. No wait, it came out right but he took it wrong.”

 

Shippo jumped onto Kagome's shoulder and took a deep whiff of her scent.

 

“Yup, it's Kagome alright, and we haven't seen Inuyasha since this morning.”

Kagome solemnly picked up the kit and cradled him in her arms. Tears started to form, but they dared not fall. Putting Shippo down, Kagome sauntered out of the hut.

 

“Kagome! Do you need help finding him?!” called out a very confused exterminator.

 

The raven haired girl only quickened her pace until she was in a full out run towards the forest. She knew exactly where Inuyasha was, Goshinboku, the God tree. Kagome reached the tree in no time flat, her new hanyou powers kicking in instantly.

 

She looked among the branches of the great tree. And at the very top, she was a bright red hiori. Kagome called his name but there was no reply. So she did the next best thing…tired to climb to the top. (A.N please take notice to the word tried lol)

 

Kagome attempted to claw her way up, jump, climb, and hoist to no avail. On more than one attempt she landed on her rear with a soft thump. Finally, she decided to just wait underneath the tree until Inuyasha decided to come talk to her.

 

After a very uneventful hour Inuyasha jumped down from the tree, scaring Kagome half out of her mind.

 

“Hey…” Kagome said cautiously

 

Inuyasha ignored her and stepped closer. He then pulled her up off of the ground so that they were mere inches away from each other.

 

“Inuyasha, I'm sorry. I really didn't mean it like that, I just wasn't expecting anything like this to happen, and I've been thinking about it and it's from the wish! Inuyasha, Midoriko changed me, that's what she meant by `Be open to change, for change shall come within you and you alone'. So please don't be mad.”

 

Inuyasha's face came closer towards Kagome's. Their breath mingling together.

 

“Kagome, I'm not mad, I was just surprised about the change that's all. You have no idea how good you smell, or look for that matter.” Inuyasha's lips neared Kagomes.

 

“Inu-ya-sha?” hesitantly Kagome moved in a tad bit closer so their lips almost touched and they were about to kiss until….

 

“Kagome, there you are we were starting to get worried! We thought that maybe a demon or something got a hold of you, and we figured you wouldn't know how to control your powers yet so here we are. EEP!” Sango strode in on the two who quickly jumped apart from each other.

 

Kagome's face turned a crimson red and she blushed deeply. Inuyasha's face matching identically.

 

“I think I'm just going to turn around and pretend I never saw anything.”

 

“Keh, not like anything was happening.” Kagome gave Inuyasha a dejected look before she strode after the very embarrassed exterminator.

 

“What? What did I say?”

 

“Sit boy!”

 

“Ahhh! Wench get back here! Kagome! Kagome!”
