Chapter 7

Dark Dreams

After about ten minutes of arguing Kagome finally got Inuyasha to let her bandage him up. He got tired of her yelling so he let her check his wounds.

"There, all done." Kagome said while finishing up.

"You could've saved yourself the trouble you know. I said I'd be fine and I meant it." Inuyasha said.

"I wanted to do bandage you up so quit complaining. It's not like it will do any good now."

"Feh."

"Shall we continue our journey to the village to the east or go back to Kaede's village?" Miroku asked.

"It doesn't really matter to me. I think Inuyasha was the only one who was hurt." Kagome said.

"Lets go to the village in the east. We're almost there and my wounds aren't serious. I'll be healed by the time we get there." Inuyasha said.

"Lets go then." Sango said. She picked up Kirara and walked beside Kagome and Shippo. Inuyasha and Miroku were a little ways behind them.

Sango and Kagome chatted while Shippo and Kirara slept. Inuyasha and Miroku were also talking.

"Inuyasha you do know now that since Kagome's power has awakened more youkai are likely to come kill her?" Miroku asked.

"Hai, I know I just don't want her to worry about it. She has enough to worry about right now. Besides it won't matter since I'm protecting her."

"True." Miroku said. "We should also start taking her judgments more seriously. Since she's a miko she may be able to sense danger or even dream about it."

"I'll keep that in mind." Inuyasha said.

The group walked and eventually found the village. Miroku got them all rooms as he used his `there is an ominous cloud over your inn' routine. Although no one was complaining the rooms and food were great.

Everyone sat around the fire in one of the rooms and talked. They hadn't been able to do that for a while. It was nice to be able to talk about everyday things instead of planning on where to go or how to deal with things.

Everyone began to get tired. Miroku and Sango went to their separate rooms to sleep. Kirara went with Sango and Inuyasha, Kagome, and Shippo stayed in the room they were in to get some sleep.

They were all curled up on the futon. Inuyasha had his arms around Kagome and Shippo slept between them. Inuyasha sniffed to make sure there were no youkai. There were none but something else caught his attention.

Kagome smelt different. She still smelled the same as before but there was something about it that changed. Inuyasha shook his head clear of any thoughts. He just assumed it was because of her power awakening.

As soon as he was sure nothing threatening was around to hurt his family and friends he went to sleep.

Kagome was somewhere dark. The air around her was cold. She had a bad feeling about the place she was at. She looked around for anything. She couldn't find a thing.

She turned around and saw Naraku. He was laughing and there was blood all around him. There were bodies lying on the ground near him.

She couldn't see who they were. They were just black outlines of what she thought was people. She was scared. She started backing away. She couldn't do anything.

Naraku suddenly looked at her and she screamed.

Kagome awoke suddenly in a cold sweat. She was sitting up.

"What's wrong Kagome?" Inuyasha asked. He heard her scream and woke up. He had her in his arms.

"I had a bad dream." She said. She was shaking. Sango and Miroku ran into their room with their weapons ready. Kirara stood in front of them transformed. They all lowered them when they saw nothing.

"What's wrong?" Sango asked concerned for her friend. She could see her shaking.

"She had a bad dream." Inuyasha said.

"Did she tell you what it was?" Miroku asked.

Inuyasha just shook his head. Everyone sat around Kagome offering whatever comfort they could give. When she finally stopped shaking she told them about her dream. Inuyasha started growling and held her tighter as she finished.

"I was afraid this would happen." Miroku said.

"What would happen Houshi-sama?" Sango asked.

"The dream she just had showed her a possibility of what the future may bring."

"You mean Naraku is going to kill a whole bunch of people?" Sango asked.

"Maybe, maybe not. Nothing in the future is for certain." Miroku said.

"That helps a lot bouzo." Inuyasha said sarcastically. "You guys can go back to sleep. I'll watch over Kagome."

"I'll watch Okaa-san too." Shippo said.

Sango and Miroku gave her one last look before going back to their rooms. Kirara licked her hand and followed Sango.

Kagome just sat in Inuyasha's arms. It somewhat comforted her. She couldn't ignore the dream. What did it mean? Who were those people?

The sun was up and breakfast was given to the guests at the inn. Kagome and Inuyasha didn't get any sleep that night. Kagome was tired. She was afraid to go back to sleep. The whole night she just stayed in Inuyasha's arms.

Inuyasha stayed up with her. Shippo had fallen asleep a couple hours after she woke up. He couldn't blame him though. He looked tired with worry. Inuyasha didn't need as much sleep as everyone else. So he felt fine.

He was worried about Kagome. She looked tired and worn out. Maybe they shouldn't go on with their shard hunt right now.

Sango, Miroku, and Kirara entered their room to check up on Kagome. They saw her and knew she didn't go back to sleep.

"Are you ok?" Sango asked.

"Hai, I'm fine." Kagome said. She smiled. Everyone knew she was doing it to try and reassure everyone. It wasn't working though.

"Maybe we should go back to Kaede's village. I asked around and no one has heard any rumors of the shards." Miroku said.

"Hai, Kagome needs to relax anyway." Inuyasha said.

"I'm fine guys really." Kagome said again.

"Lets go back. We can go see your family ok Kagome?" Inuyasha asked.

"Ok. I guess I should go back to my time. I haven't even started on my makeup work."

"Ok lets eat and then go." Miroku said. Everyone nodded and started eating their breakfast.

After thanking the owners of the inn they were on their way back to Kaede's village. Sango and Miroku were riding on Kirara and Kagome and Shippo were on Inuyasha's back.

It wasn't too long before the village could be seen. They quickened their pace and stepped into Kaede's hut. Kaede had been preparing a late dinner because she was seeing a villager and hadn't eaten yet.

It was a good thing for Sango, Miroku, and Shippo because they hadn't eaten dinner yet and they were hungry. Inuyasha and Kagome didn't eat. They were going to her time.

After saying their goodbyes they walked to the well. Inuyasha pulled Kagome into his arms and jumped in. He jumped out when his feet touched the bottom of the well.

They walked to the house. Once they stepped into the house Inuyasha was knocked to the ground by Souta. Ms. Higurashi heard the commotion and walked into the room.

"Welcome home Kagome. Hello Inuyasha." She said.

"Hi." Inuyasha said. Souta was asking him too many questions at once.

"Souta if you keep asking him all those questions at once he'll never get to answer you. I bet you guys are hungry. I could warm up what's left of dinner if you'd like." Ms. Higurashi said.

"Arigato Okaa-san." Kagome said.

"Why don't you and Inuyasha lay down in your room until it's done. I'll bring it up to you."

"Hai. Come on Inuyasha." Kagome said as she walked up the stairs to her room. In a flash he had gotten up to follow her.

"I didn't finish asking him my questions nee-chan." Souta said.

"You can ask him later. We're waiting for food. He can tell you all about his latest fight later if he feels like it. Ok?" Kagome yelled down to him.

"Hai." Souta said.

Kagome shut her bedroom door and started getting stuff out of her bag. She knew if she laid down she would sleep and she didn't want to go to sleep. Apparently Inuyasha knew what she was doing.

"Why don't you go to sleep koi? I can tell you want to. Usually you just pass out right when you get in here. You need to get some sleep. You'll get sick if you don't."

"I don't want to sleep. I don't want to have another dream." Kagome said.

Inuyasha walked up behind her and wrapped his arms around her. She leaned back into his embrace.

"I'll be here if you have another dream." He whispered in her ear and kissed the back of her neck. "Who knows you might not even have another dream."

"If it will make you feel better I'll go to sleep after dinner." Kagome said.

"Good." Inuyasha said.

He helped her put her stuff away. Ms. Higurashi came in with some food. She took Kagome's laundry downstairs to wash it. She told them she'd return later to collect their dishes.

Kagome hesitated. She didn't want to have another nightmare. Inuyasha reassured her that he'd be there for her. She was out as soon as her head hit the pillow. Inuyasha climbed in behind her and also went to sleep while holding her.
