She found her parents out in the feilds, and ran straight for them. "Father, mother!" The women kneeling in the feild had brown hair and blue eyes. She was petite woman, looking to be in her mid-thirties. Her father, who also looked to be in his mid-thirties, had red hair with silver streaks all down it. His eyes were a bright green. He had pointed ears, like most full demons. Her parents looked up from their work to see their daughter running to them. Emiko smiled. Baralai looked up and smiled also, but his smile faded when he caught a whif of her. He looked to his mate and said: "Emiko, the time has come!" Her look went from happy, to confused, to horrified, in a matter of seconds. "No!" she whispered.
Riku looked at their expressions and she was puzzled. "Whats wrong?" she asked when she finally reached them. "Is something the matter?"
Baralai stood and gave her a gentle smile, and asked her: "Have you noticed anything differant in the air lately?" Riku looked confused and answered: "Yes, thats why I came here... I wanted to ask if you smelled it, too, father." His smile turned to a soft frown. "I do smell it, but do you know what it means?" he asked.
Riku was getting frustrated. "Quit beating around the bush and come out with it! What is the smell?" Baralai laughed softly and helped his mate up. Emiko then spoke: "It is you. You have become a woman." Riku look confused. "Me? But wh....what does it mean?" Baralai explained to her that since she became a woman, the man she was promised to would come to retrieve her, and make her his mate. Riku blushed fiercly. "But, would he....come here for me?"
"Yes." Baralai whispered. "But.... wouldn't that put us in danger?" Riku asked. "Yes." Emiko said. Riku wanted nothing more than to run away so her family wouldn't be in anymore danger, but she didn't know what was going to come out of her fathers mouth next.
"Risa! She could be in danger!" Baralai yelled. Emiko's eyes widened. "No!" They all ran back to the hut, Baralai carrying Emiko, and Riku running as fast as she could to see to it that Risa was safe.
They got back to the hut about a minute later, but not a minute too soon. They burst into the hut, and Risa was knocked out on the floor, with a lesser male bear youkai on top of her. She was still fully clothed, and it looked like she put up one hell of a fight.
Baralai screamed and ran at the demon, slashing at it with his claws. Riku ran behind him and kicked the demon as hard as she could in the face, breaking the demons jaw. It yowled in pain and Riku ran back at it, digging her claws deep into the throat of the demon. It fell to the floor, dead.
Emiko's eyes widened. She had never seen her daughter fight before, and, quite frankly, she thought it was horrifying. Baralai looked at Riku, whose eyes were glowing a bright red. Baralai gasped and took a step back. Emiko silently bent down and picked up a rock off the floor while Riku was distracted by Baralai. She then whipped the rock at Riku, and it made contact with her head, knocking her out. Emiko ighed softly. She hated doing that to her own daughter, but....it was what had to be done.
Riku woke up some time later. She was back to normal, now. She say her mother sitting by her side. She reached out and grabbed her mothers hand. Emiko flinched when she felt something grab her hand, but relaxed when she noticed who it was. "Riku, your awake. I'm sorry, you....transformed again." Emiko stated.
"It's ok mother. I'm sorry, too.... But what do we do now?" Riku said. "You... have to run. more demons will come for you, they will look here first, because the scent is stronger here. You must take your sister, and run as far away from here as you can."
Baralai walked into the room, now sensing his first born daughter had woken up. "You can not stay now. If you do, you will be taken away and mated to that man."
Riku blushed softly but looked angrily at her parents. "If we leave, what will happen to you? I refuse to leave you behind to die for me!" Baralai looked over to Risa and smiled, seeing she was still asleep. Riku followed his gaze, realizing it wasn't just for her, but for her sister as well. "If you will not do it for yourself, do it for your younger sister." Emiko said, with tears in her eyes. She knew as well as every other concious person in the room that her and her mate would die to buy time for their children.
"But.... I...." Riku couldn't find words to say to the statement her mother had said. tears started flowing freely down her face. "You will leave now. Find a village, become part of that village, find a mate, and live happily. Protect your sister. Let no harm come to either of you. We love you." Where the last words her father had said to her, before she hugged her parents fiercely and said her final good-byes to them before she obeyed their orders, and ran. When she reached the woods to the west of the hut, she turned and shed a tear while saying good-bye.
Riku jumped into a tree that overlooked the campsite and watched for any intruders in her campsite. Risa woke up about an hour after camp was set up. Riku jumped down next to her as Risa's eyes started to flutter open. "Wh....Where am I?" Risa asked. "Your safe. It's Riku. Don't worry."
Riku explained what had happened after Risa had been knocked out. Risa ate while she listened, staying silent until Riku had finished. "We have to go help them." she said. "You can't!" Riku said. "Your still hurt! I'm not letting you go back. This is what mom and dad wanted. We have to respect their wishes. If we go back, we'll only be killed. They probably are.... dead by now anyway." she continued as tears flowed down her cheeks.
Risa jumped up and screamed then. "HOW COULD YOU LET THEM DIE LIKE THAT? WHY DIDN'T YOU GO BACK?" Risa ran at Riku and kicked her over, and began kicking her as hard as she could. Riku jumped up and started dodging her sisters blows. "WHY, WHY, WHY???" Risa screamed. Risa hit Riku as hard as she could, knocking Riku down. Risa bent down, grabbing Riku by the throat, claws poised in front of her heart, ready to strike. "Risa.... don't you think I..... tryed to.....tell them.... no?!" Riku said between gasps of breath.
Risa paused, and jumped away from Riku, and fell to her knees. "I'm sorry Riku." she cried. "Your right....I should have thought you would.... I'm so sorry!" Risa then let tears flow down her cheeks. Riku caught her breath, and walked over to her, and hugged her. Holding her as she cried.
The next morning, Riku woke up alone. Risa was no where to be found, so she ran back to her old hut, hoping to find her there, but she wasn't there. She headed back to their campsite, but didn't get there until about sunset, which was bad. Tonight was the night of the full moon, which meant, it was her and Risa's human night. She searched, but found it was hopeless. She caught more fish, and moved her campsite down wind, so she woudn't be easy to find over the night.
She jumped up into a tree over her campsite, when a silver haired hanyou walked into the campsite. She jumped down and hugged what she thought was her sister, saying : "Where were you, Risa?"
The figure turned around, and she looked at the hanyou, only now noticing the scent was male.
