Chapter 8: Return to the Northern Lands

Once they were all sure that they were ready, they walked out to meet Jaken, who had prepared Ah –Un for Rin. The little girl smiled when she saw this and ran to the 2-headed dragon, yelling about how much she loved the beast. She easily got up and flashed Jaken her toothless grin. Jaken only sighed and looked away.

Kagome looked to Sesshomaru. “How am I to get there?” she asked. Sesshomaru smirked and walked towards her, her confusion clearer with every graceful stride he took. Once he was close enough to touch her, he lifted her in to his arms and motioned for Jaken to climb aboard Ah-Un and for the dragon to take off.

Then, Sesshomaru tightened his grip on Kagome and whispered ‘hold on tight’ gently in her ear, causing her to shiver. She threw her arms around her neck just as his cloud formed beneath his feet. Once it took off, Kagome ‘eeped’ and tightened her hold on his neck.

Sesshomaru smirked to himself and flew forward. Once the speed became steady, Kagome slackened her grip and relaxed fully in his arms. She sighed to herself and closed her eyes.

A few hours later, they arrived at the castle of the north. The youkai were immediately out there with scowls on their faces, until they saw Kagome and Sesshomaru and the way they were holding each other. They each awed and entered the castle, waiting for the western lord to follow as well.

“Sakuya-chan!” Rin yelled, launching herself at the older demoness. Sakuya in turn, smiled and held the little girl. “Rin missed you.” Sakuya laughed and took her to the other room.

“I missed you too Rin-chan.”

Just then, Sesshomaru entered the room with a half asleep, half awake Kagome. Upon realizing where they were, she quickly got out of Sesshomaru’s grasp and walked beside him, feeling him lace her fingers with his own, she smiled inside, but outside you could detect no difference in her.

Hikari chose this time to walk through the hall. He gaped as he saw Kagome and Sesshomaru holding hands, he would never have thought that the western lord would be with a human.

“Probably just a fling.” He said quietly, walking past them. Sesshomaru growled, stopping him in his tracks. Hikari looked at him and frowned.

“I said that aloud didn’t I?” Sesshomaru nodded and gave him a death glare. Hikari gulped and apologized instantly. Sesshomaru tightened his hold on Kagome’s hand and walked away, telling himself that the dumb youkai had a knack for saying stupid things.

Walking in to the room that the other lords and ladies were gathered in, they sat down in the same chairs as they were last time, waiting for Yamamato to begin his speech. However, they all sat, looking at the taiyoukai and miko expectantly.

“Is there something you wish us to say?” Sesshomaru barked out coldly. Yuki nodded and stood.

“Lord Sesshomaru, Lady Kagome, each of us wishes why you have not been present for the last few days while the rest of us stay here, trying to come up with some form of battle strategies.” Sesshomaru growled as Kagome put a hand on his shoulder and nodded to him. His growling ceased as he nodded back to her.

“The night we left, was because I sensed in evil presence within the castle, and sure enough, it led us to Aami, the lower class lord of the dragons you have been wanting to get rid of.

“The hut where we found him was lined in souls trying in vain to escape the barriers they were placed in. When I went to touch one, he appeared in his human form. He attacked me and would have killed me if not for Sesshomaru.”

Kagome finished leaving everyone else in awe. “Wait, why did you not come back to the northern castle?”

This time was Sesshomaru’s turn to answer.

“Kagome was bleeding freely from the would inflicted to her stomach and my castle happened to be closer. Besides, I needed to retrieve my ward and Jaken anyway, so it makes no difference really. But the most important thing, is that Kagome knows how to defeat Aami.”

All eyes turned to Kagome as she nodded and began to explain her dream.

Meanwhile, Rin ran around the castle, Jaken following her constantly telling her to slow down and not be so reckless. Rin would laugh and run further ahead once again. Suddenly, she stopped, a bright white light shone in front of her, flying towards the exit.

Rin giggled lightly and took off after the light. Jaken rounded the corner to see a white light engulf Rin’s body. He panicked, running towards her, trying to get passed the light, but nothing worked, all of a sudden, he heard Rin’s laughter and the light was gone.

“Rin!” Jaken yelled, running towards the little girl. “What happened?”

“The light tried to take Rin’s insides out, but Rin told it no, she loves Sesshomaru-sama, Kagome-neesan and Jaken-san too much to let go of my insides!” The little girl squealed happily. Jaken walked up to her and grabbed the young human’s hand, walking back to where Sesshomaru and Kagome were.

Everyone gasped as her story was concluded. It would be hard to accomplish such a task as a young human miko, bit then again, she was stronger. All of a sudden, Yamamato became thoughtful he stood and walked to Kagome who bowed her head.

“Can you not use the shikon top transform yourself onto a youkai?” The table around her gasped, surely the northern lord wasn’t thinking of having a miserable human miko make a selfish wish on the shikon no tama.

“No, I haven’t and I don’t intend to ruin my life more then it already is.”

Yamamato shook his head. Surely they could find a way to do this so that she wouldn’t turn out any more miserable then she already is. Then he thought of the perfect way. She didn’t have to wish it, someone else could wish it for her.

“Kagome, can the jewel be removed from your body?” Kagome nodded. “Well, then, if you give me the jewel, I’ll make the wish for you, that way, you won’t have to worry about anything else besides training.” Kagome thought for a moment, what was stopping her? Nothing. She had no reason not to. So she closed her eyes and fixed all of her attention on the jewel inside her chest.

She forced the jewel out of her body, it burned horribly and of course, now she was bleeding. But that was her last concern at the moment. She handed the jewel to Yamamato and watched as he closed his eyes.

She didn’t know what was happening to her, but all of a sudden, she was engulfed in a dark fuchsia light. She felt as if her body was on fire. Her bones were shifting out of place, lengthening, and feeling as if they’ve been torn from her body. She fell to the ground, screaming in pain as the shikon gave her power.

Everyone around her stood in awe, wishing they could take away her pain, but knowing they couldn’t. Sesshomaru looked worried, he couldn’t stand to hear her scream and wished he could hold her and take it all away, but he couldn’t get past the light no matter how hard he tried, so he sat there, waiting for the moment it died down so he could charge in and take her in to his arms.

All of a sudden, her body felt hot, she could feel the blood pumping through her veins. She squeezed her fists together, noticing the smell of blood as she did so. All of a sudden the pain was but a distant memory and she was lying on the ground curled in to a ball.

She opened her eyes and stood, watching as everyone around her took a step back. She vaguely wondered if she turned out horribly ugly until Sesshomaru walked up to her and wrapped her in his arms.

Then, he stepped back so that he. Along with the others could take in her new appearance.

She stood about 4 inches taller now, her dark black hair with navy streaks reached to her waist, bringing out her dark, royal blue eyes. He skin was paler now, bringing out her luscious red lips and the royal blue stripes on each of her two cheeks, wrists, waist, and ankles.

Her breasts filled out a full cup size, and her body became more curvaceous, giving her the body of a supermodel. Her ears were now pointed, and very sensitive she guessed. Her nails had become longer and were now the color of her eyes.

But the biggest thing about her new appearance was her fluffy black tail with dark blue stripes, signifying that she was an inu youkai. Sesshomaru just stared in awe at the beautiful human gone youkai in front of him.

After a few moments of everyone staring at her, Kagome sighed.

“Do I really look bad enough for you people to stare at me like that?” She put her head down and turned it to the side. Then, she took in a heavy intake of breathe and froze. Arousal? She turned and looked straight to where the scent was coming.

Sesshomaru and Hikari were glaring at each other, until Sesshomaru walked towards Kagome and took her hand in his. This only caused Hikari to growl and for the other ladies to roll their eyes as the two other lords smirked, both with the same thoughts running through their heads. ‘This will prove to be interesting.’

“Kagome-chan.” Tsubame gasped walking in. “”You are beautiful.” Kagome smiled, a beautiful smile, but took it off immediately when the others looked at her and smiled themselves. She quickly excused herself and was about to go back to her room when Yamamato stopped her.

“Yes?” she asked, walking back over to him. He took her hand and dropped something small and round in to it, then closed her hand again. Kagome gasped as she opened her hand to see the shikon no tama.

“What? Why isn’t it gone?” she asked aloud. The others seemed to be just as equally surprised as she and shrugged their shoulders as the young miko youkai examined the jewel. All of a sudden, it levitated from her hands and flew back in to her body.

Everyone went deadly silent as they heard a voice echo through a room.

“This power belongs to you now Kagome. You are the new protectress of the jewel, and no matter what you will do, it will always exist, which is why you need it with you.” Then, all went silent and Sesshomaru walked over to pull Kagome in to his arms.

“I’ll begin training you tomorrow.” Sesshomaru said, kissing her lightly on the lips before disappearing down the hall. Kagome turned around to see everyone staring at her with a smirk on their lips, except Hikari who had a scowl.

“Ummm, I have to go.” She said, before running after Sesshomaru with her newly acquired speed.
