Chapter 8

Assigned Project

Kagome woke up Monday morning to go to school. It turned out her mom hadn't heard anything about Naraku. She did find out that her grandpa would be ok. He would be able to go home in a couple of days.

Kagome grabbed her bag and left for school. She was still tired from going to the carnival. She had a lot of fun. She stayed up most of the night worrying about Naraku. She really hoped he was just out on one of his trips.

Kagome walked her locker and got her books out. Someone from behind her put their hand on her shoulder. She dropped her stuff and turned around swinging at them. The person caught her fist.

"You shouldn't do that you know. One of these days you're going to actually hit someone." Inuyasha said.

"Oh. You scared me. They deserve it if they get hit. People shouldn't sneak around like that. She started picking stuff up. She was really glad it was Inuyasha and not someone else.

Inuyasha helped her pick up her things. "Did I scare you that bad?" He asked. She was shaking a little.

"No I…I'm just being paranoid." She said.

"Are you sure? It seems like something's bothering you." He said.

"I'm sure." The bell rang. "Got to go to class. See you at lunch." She ran to her class. Inuyasha watched. Something didn't seem right. He shrugged it off and went to class.

Kagome, Inuyasha, Sango, and Miroku all met at the bench they always ate lunch at. They were talking about how the carnival went. "You guys obviously had fun." Kagome teased.

Sango blushed. "Of course we had fun. I just wish the ride could've been longer." Miroku said. Sango hit him.

"Hentai." She said.

"Funny how you would still call him that after he had his hand on your butt while riding on the ferris wheel." Inuyasha said. Sango hit him too. "I was just kidding."

"Yeah well it's not funny." Sango said. She was still blushing. She smirked mischievously. "So what did you and Kagome do on the ride?"

They both blushed bright red. "Nothing!" They both shouted.

"Sure it was nothing. How long has this been going on?" Sango asked.

"Since Friday." Inuyasha said.

"Oh really? And what have you done since then?" Miroku asked. Sango hit him. "What? It was just an innocent question."

They all laughed and teased each other. The bell rang and they all went to class. Kagome and Inuyasha stopped at the locker. "Are you sure nothings wrong? You look worried." Inuyasha said.

"I'm fine. I really am." Kagome said. She smiled at him. "Arigato for worrying." She leaned up and kissed him on the cheek and went to class.

Inuyasha was surprised. It wasn't their first kiss but she caught him off guard. He didn't think she'd kiss him in public. He went to class after a few seconds of standing there looking stupid.

After school they all went to the diner. The class they all shared had a big project. Inuyasha and Kagome were partners and Sango and Miroku were partners. They were lucky. They were assigned to do research on a certain time period they were assigned.

Inuyasha and Kagome were assigned Sengoku Jidai. Kagome lucked out. The shrine where her family lived had tons of books on Sengoku Jidai. How was she to get them? She could go there or have them sent to her.

"I should go now. It's getting late and I have some things to do at home." Kagome said. "How about we get together later and work?"

"Ok. When?" Inuyasha asked.

"How about today at five if you're not busy?" she asked.

"I'll be there." Inuyasha said. Kagome waved goodbye to everyone and left.

When she got home she called her mom. "Hello." Her mom said.

"Hi mom."

"Kagome how have you been?"

"You mean since yesterday? I'm fine. I just wanted to know if you still had those books on Sengoku Jidai?"

"Hai, we still have them. Why?"

"I need them for a project."

"Well how are you going to get them?"

"Well I thought I'd come over for a visit."

(A/N I hate to do an a/n right in the middle of the fic. But bear with me on how long it takes to get to Kyoto from Tokyo. I don't know how long it takes but I need it to work for my fic so I'm going to say it's a two hour train ride.)

"But you'll be risking a lot coming here."

"I know but I want to see how grandpa is doing."

"Ok. I have to take Souta to a soccer game. Call me later for when you'll be coming."

"Ok. Tell Souta good luck."

"I will. Bye."

"Bye." Kagome hung up the phone. She went to her kitchen and washed some dishes. She sat on the couch and watched TV. All she could do now was wait for Inuyasha to come over.

Kagome was asleep on the couch when she heard knocking. She looked at the clock. It was five. She got up and ran to the door and opened it.

"Did I come to early or something?" Inuyasha asked.

"No gomen I fell asleep." She said. "Come in." she shut the door behind him and walked to the bathroom to fix her hair. She walked back out and sat on the couch.

"So where should we start?" Inuyasha asked.

"Well do you have any books on the Sengoku Jidai time period?" She asked him. He shook his head. "I guess we can't do anything until tomorrow then."

"Why tomorrow?"

"I'm going to Kyoto to pick up some books and see my grandpa." She said.

"You're going all the way over there? Alone?" He shouted. She nodded. "That's too dangerous for you. It's a two hour train ride."

"I know." She said.

"You still plan on going? Just to get some books?"

"And see my grandpa."

"I'll go with you." He said.

"I can go by myself. I've done it before." She said. He just got madder.

"You can't walk around by yourself." He yelled. "If I don't go you don't go."

"What's the big deal?" She asked.

"I just worry ok. Teenage girls shouldn't walk around alone." He said. "Besides I could never live with myself if something happened to you."

"Inuyasha." Inuyasha pressed his lips against hers. He licked her lips for entrance. When she opened he poured all his worries into the kiss.

The kiss left them both breathless. He leaned his forehead against hers. "Don't go alone." He said sadly.

Kagome hated to see people sad. "Fine you can come. I have to call my mom." She got up and went to the phone and dialed her number. After a few minutes of being in the kitchen she came back.

"Well what did she say?" Inuyasha asked.

"She said she'd be very happy to meet you." Kagome said. "We have to leave after school. I have to stop by here to get my stuff then we can go to the train station."

"Ok." He said. Something had been bugging him. "Kagome do you live alone?" He had never seen anyone at her apartment while he was there. He thought it was kind of odd when she called her mom to visit.

"Umm…well…yeah." She said. She'd forgotten that no one knew she lived alone besides Shippo.

"Why did you move here?" Inuyasha said. "How come your family stayed there?"

"I…I don't want to talk about it." Kagome looked away.

Inuyasha grabbed her chin gently and made her look at him. "Promise me you'll tell me about it later." He said.

Kagome looked at him. He looked sad again. Tears started coming from her eyes as she remembered why she was there alone and not with her family. She only nodded.

Inuyasha hugged her. He hadn't meant to make her cry. He just wanted to know everything about her. He wanted to be the one to know all of her, protect her, and love her.

Kagome fell asleep in his arms. Inuyasha carried her to her room and laid her down. He left her a note and locked up her apartment. He walked home.

When he got there Sesshomaru was in the kitchen. "Did you have fun at Kagome's house?" He teased.

"Ha ha." He said sarcastically. "I'm going to Kyoto tomorrow so I won't be home until late."

"Going on a getaway trip with your girlfriend eh." He said.

"It's not a getaway trip she wants to visit her grandpa and pick up some books for our project." He said.

"Why are you going?" Sesshomaru asked.

"I don't want her to be walking around Kyoto alone. Anything could happen to her." He said.

"You love her." Sesshomaru said in a serious voice.

Inuyasha just walked away. He'd only known Kagome for about a month. How could he have fallen for her so fast? He sighed. He loved her. Ever since he met her he wanted to be the one for her. He wanted to make her his. `I'm hopeless.' He thought and went to sleep.

I hope you like that chapter. Sesshomaru sure is OOC in this fic. Inuyasha too. I even made a mushy ending. Love at first sight. Sigh. Oh well review. Ja ne.
