Chapter 9

Kyoto

Kagome had just gotten out of school. She threw her stuff in her locker and ran to her apartment. She probably wouldn't have gotten up for school if Inuyasha didn't call her to wake her up. Her alarm wasn't set.

After she got off the phone with her she ran into the shower and back into her room to get dressed. That's when she saw it, a note on the stand by her bed. It was from Inuyasha. He wrote how she fell asleep and he locked up before he left.

During school Inuyasha told her he'd go to her house after he'd gotten some stuff from his house. Kagome ran around her room trying to find her purse. She was looking under her bed when she heard a knock. It scared her and she bumped her head.

"Itai." She rubbed her head and answered the door. "Inuyasha come in. I'm just trying to find my purse." She said.

He walked in and sat on the couch. She ran into her room. "Do you need any help?" He asked.

"No, I'm fine." She said. He heard her scream and he ran into her bedroom.

"What happened?" He asked. He started checking her for injuries.

"Nothing my foot got caught in the blanket and I tripped." She said. She went to get up and shouted, "I found my purse. We can go now."

Inuyasha shook his head. They walked out of her apartment and went to the train station. They bought two tickets and boarded the train. Kagome started getting sleepy. She yawned.

Inuyasha laughed. "Lean on me and go to sleep. I'll wake you when we get to Kyoto." He said.

"Arigato." She leaned her head on his shoulder and fell asleep. Two hours later and they were in Kyoto.

"Kagome wake up." Inuyasha shook her. "We're here."

Kagome opened her eyes. "Already? It didn't seem like two hours."

"That's because you were asleep." He said. They both got out off of the train. Kagome led the way to the shrine she used to live in.

When they got there Souta came running toward her. "Nee-chan." He hugged her.

"Hi Souta." She hugged him back. He looked at Inuyasha who was just standing there. "Souta this is Inuyasha. You remember him don't you?"

"Hai. Mom is in the kitchen cooking dinner." Souta said.

"How's grandpa?" She asked.

"He's fine. He's back home now. He's resting in his room." Souta said.

"Let's go into the kitchen." Kagome said. Inuyasha followed her up the shrine steps and into the house. He'd never saw a shrine until now. He looked around.

"Mom." Kagome called out.

"Kagome." Ms. Higurashi hugged her daughter. "How was your trip?"

"It was fine. Mom you remember Inuyasha?"

"Hai. We met at the restaurant."

"Nice to see you again." Inuyasha bowed. (Way OOC)

"You don't have to be so formal." Ms. Higurashi said. "Come on dinner is ready now."

They walked into the kitchen. Kagome's mom had made her favorite, oden. Kagome ran to a chair and sat down waiting for everyone else to take their seat.

After eating Kagome went upstairs to see her grandpa. He was covered in bruises. She couldn't talk to him because he was sleeping. She walked back downstairs. Souta had dragged Inuyasha outside to play soccer.

"How's shrine business?" Kagome asked. Since her grandpa wasn't in the condition to work no one else could.

"It's fine. We haven't gotten many visitors. We put a sign saying we were closed but some people still want to come. A young couple has been coming everyday after dinnertime to look at the shrine."

"Why don't you let them look around?" Kagome asked.

"They are from America and want to see a tour of the shrine led by the actual people. I don't know anything about shrines. Only you and grandpa know stuff about it and have the outfits."

"If they come today I'll show them around." Kagome said.

"You don't have to do that. You came to visit not to work."

"It's all right I miss helping around the shrine. Is the robe still in my room?"

"Hai. Nothing from your room has been moved." Ms. Higurashi said. "If you really want to help you should get dressed now. They should be here in about ten minutes."

"Hai." Kagome ran upstairs to her room. She quickly changed into the miko robes. And put her hair in a low ponytail. She walked downstairs into the kitchen.

Souta had a soccer ball in his hand. "Mom the Americans are back." He said.

"I'll handle it from here Souta." Kagome said.

"Nee-chan you're going to help?" Souta asked. She nodded and walked outside.

Inuyasha heard everything from outside. He was standing there looking at the tourists. They were staring at his ears. He was starting to get irritated. They were whispering thinking he couldn't hear him.

He was about to yell at them when Kagome put her hand on his shoulder. He knew it was her because the minute she touched him all his anger died away. He turned around to see her in miko robes. He stood there with his mouth open.

Kagome giggled and walked past him. She greeted the tourists and showed them around. After about a half hour of talking with them they left. She felt good working again. It was like she never left.

She walked into the house and up to her room to change out of the robes. She came back down. Inuyasha stared at her. He wanted to ask her about it but couldn't find the words. He was still a little shocked.

"I helped my grandpa run the shrine a while ago." Kagome said answering his unasked question.

"Oh." He said. There was still so much he didn't know about her. Kagome stood up.

"It's getting late. We should go. We have school tomorrow. I wish I could stay longer." Kagome said to her mom and brother.

"It's ok. We'll visit you sometime soon again." Ms. Higurashi said. "It was nice seeing you again Inuyasha. Your welcome to come back if you want."

"Arigato." He said.

Kagome gave Souta and her mom a hug goodbye and left. It was already dark. They walked toward the train station only to be stopped by some guys.

"Well look its Kagome." One of the guys said. "Thought you were in America?"

"I'm visiting. I was just on my way to the airport." She said. She tried walking past them.

"Aren't you going to visit your old pals? Naraku's pissed. You should have seen the look in his eyes when he came back and you were gone." He said.

"He said that if we were to see you to bring you to him." The other guy said.

"Kagome let's go." Inuyasha grabbed her arm gently and walked toward the train station.

"We were talking to her hanyou." The first guy said. The two guys were youkai.

"I don't give a damn. We're leaving." He said.

"No you don't we have orders." The second youkai said. They were both about to jump Inuyasha when a blue light hit them. They both fell to the ground.

"Is that your power? You're nothing but a weak bitch." The first youkai said.

Inuyasha looked at Kagome. She was a miko. Why didn't he sense it before? Kagome threw another shot of light at them and grabbed Inuyasha's arm. "Lets go."

They both ran to the train station and got on. The guys caught up to the train as the doors were about to shut. Kagome put a shield on the door so they couldn't get in. She let the shield go when the doors shut.

Kagome let out a breath as the train started moving. Now they knew she was there. By the way those guys sounded Naraku was beyond pissed that she left. "Kagome?" Inuyasha said.

She looked up at him. He was going to ask what that was all about. She wasn't ready to tell anyone anything yet. "Don't ask about it I'll tell you later." She said. "You didn't get hurt did you?"

"I should be asking you that question. How come you didn't tell me you were a miko?" He asked.

"Not very many people know about miko's. I keep it hidden because so many youkai would try to kill me afraid I would purify them. I'm sorry I didn't tell you." She said.

"It's ok." He said. Kagome leaned her head on his shoulder and went to sleep again. Even though she didn't use much power she hadn't used them for about two years. She wasn't used to it.

Inuyasha carried Kagome to her apartment. She hadn't woken up since the train ride. He was starting to get worried. He couldn't get her to wake up. He laid her on the bed. He was going to leave when Kagome started mumbling in her sleep.

"Don't let them get me." She said and gripped Inuyasha's shirt. Inuyasha sighed. He was probably going to get in a lot of trouble the next morning but he climbed on the bed next to her and wrapped his arms around her.

He kissed the back of her neck. "Don't worry I won't let them get you." He whispered and fell asleep.
