Chapter 37
Too Late

Inuyasha was almost to Naraku's house when a bunch of youkai came out. "Who the hell are you?" One of them hissed.

"None of your damn business. Where the fuck is Naraku?" Inuyasha growled.

"No one can see him tonight." The same youkai hissed. "He's not to be disturbed for the next couple of days."

"Why?" Inuyasha asked. Maybe he was going to be gone. Then it would be easier to get Kagome.

"He's got a pretty little miko in his room." Another youkai snickered. "He probably wants to have his fun."

Inuyasha growled. So maybe it wasn't what he thought. What the fuck was Naraku thinking? She was his. `I'm going to tear him apart.' He thought.

"You'll have to leave or else." The first youkai said.

"Or else what?" Inuyasha said. "I have some unfinished business with Naraku."

"What business might that be?" A kitsune youkai asked.

"I have to kill him." Inuyasha yelled. "That pretty little miko is my mate."

"Not for long hanyou." The kitsune youkai said. "When the sun sets the mark will be gone and he'll claim her for himself."

"What the hell did you tell him that for?" A youkai next to him yelled.

"Just thought he'd want to know before he died." The kitsune youkai said.

Inuyasha growled. "That's it. I going to kill you all." He yelled. He charged at the closest youkai and swung at him with his claws. He took the next three or four youkai out that way.

It seemed the closer he got the smarter and stronger the youkai were. He wasn't going to give up. His anger grew every second. The damn youkai were keeping him from Kagome. He needed to get to her as soon as possible.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kagome was thinking of what she could do. How could she get away from Naraku? He was immune to her powers. She couldn't just run. There were probably hundreds of youkai guarding the place.
She hissed in pain. Every once in a while the mark would hurt. As the sun went down the pain grew. She was almost in tears from it. "Does it hurt?" Naraku asked. "Consider this your punishment."
"What punishment?" Kagome asked. The mark hurt again. She cried out in pain. She would've fell if Naraku weren't holding her in place.
"For mating with the hanyou." Naraku said.
"You're a hanyou too Naraku." Kagome said.
Naraku growled and turned her around so she was facing him. "I was going to be nice and start after the pain went away. I think I'll get started early." He said. He dragged her over to the bed and threw her.
Kagome tried to crawl to the other side of the bed but he grabbed her ankles and dragged her to him. He held her wrists in one hand above her head and straddled her waist. "Don't even think about getting away." Naraku said. He licked her cheek.
Kagome turned her head in disgust. She struggled to get free. She cried out again when a wave of pain surged through her whole body. "Get off!" Kagome yelled.
Naraku just smiled. "Only a couple of more minutes." He said. With his free hand he held her head in place. He leaned down and kissed her. He forced his tongue into her mouth. Tears sprang from Kagome's eyes.
She couldn't believe this was happening. Naraku pulled back when someone knocked on the door. "I said not to bother me." Naraku yelled.
"Naraku-sama, there's a problem." Someone said.
"What?" Naraku said.
"Inuyasha is here. He's getting closer to the house." He said.
Naraku growled. He didn't think he knew where he was. "Send out Kikyo." Naraku said.
"Hai, Naraku-sama."
"Where were we?" Naraku said.
"Inuyasha will come." Kagome said.
"Then I guess we'll have to hurry up now won't we?" Naraku said. "The mark is already gone."
"No." Kagome said in disbelief. She struggled even more to get free.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Inuyasha had killed the last youkai that was in his way. He heard something in the distance. He jumped out of the way. An arrow had barely missed him. `What the hell?' Inuyasha thought.

He kept his ears open so if another arrow came he could hear it. He sniffed the air. He smelled a woman. He could feel her presence somewhere in front of him. She was a miko. "I know your there." Inuyasha said. They were hiding behind a tree.

A woman in miko robes stepped out. `She looks like Kagome.' Inuyasha thought. The woman was wearing miko clothes, a white top and a red bottom. Her hair was pulled back in a low ponytail. She had a bow in her hand and arrows on her back.

`Kagome's much prettier than that girl.' Inuyasha thought. Kagome was more cheerful whereas the miko in front of him almost looked dead inside. The miko was pale and had no expression on her face. Kagome had color and you could easily tell her emotions just by looking in her eyes.

"Who the hell are you?" He asked.

"I am Kikyo." She said. She raised her bow and notched an arrow. She aimed it and released it. Inuyasha was able to dodge it in time. Now he was going to have to kill the girl.

"Let me pass and I'll let you live." Inuyasha said.

"I can't do that. I was ordered by Naraku to kill you." Kikyo said.

"I won't be killed." Inuyasha said. He started running towards her. He was going to kill her. When he was about five feet away from her he was knocked back. She threw up a barrier at the last minute.

"Dammit." Inuyasha said. He saw her notch another arrow. He quickly jumped out of the way.

How was he going to kill a miko? He had to catch her off guard. He hoped Miroku and Sango got there soon. He could really use the help.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Miroku and Sango were still far away from the house. "We're never going to get there in time." Sango said.
"We have to try." Miroku said. "Do you hear that?"
A noise could be heard from behind them. "What is it?" Sango asked. They both turned around. In the distance they could see a car driving towards them.
"We have to stop the car." Miroku said. They both stood in the middle of the road. The car stopped when it was in front of them.
"Can you move out of the way?" An old lady asked.
"Miss, can you please help us. We need to get to a house down the road, and fast." Miroku said.
"Our friends are in trouble and we need to help them." Sango said. "Please."
The old lady thought about it. "Get in." She said. They both got into the car. "What kind of trouble are your friends in?"
"Umm...well they're both injured and they reopened their wounds." Miroku thought quickly. He was hoping the old lady would believe him.
"Oh that's terrible." The lady said. "I'll speed up then."
Sango and Miroku smiled. The old lady believed them. They were so glad she came by. They couldn't believe their luck.
Within twenty minutes Miroku saw a flash of red. "Here's fine." He said.
"What?" Sango said.
Miroku gave her a look. The old lady stopped the car. "Thank you so much." Sango said. "We don't know what we would've done if you hadn't come by."
"I just hope your friends are all right." The old lady said. She drove off down the road.
"Why did you have her stop? The house is still up there." Sango pointed to the houses in the distance.
"I saw Inuyasha around this area." Miroku said.
"Why didn't you say something earlier?" Sango said. She pulled Hiraikotsu from off of her back and into her hands. "Let's go."
Inuyasha had just dodged another arrow. So far the arrows had only managed to graze his arms. `How many arrows does she have?' Inuyasha wondered. It's like she was pulling them out of nowhere.
Kikyo notched another arrow. She was getting tired of the hanyou. He was wasting her time. She aimed and released another arrow. Inuyasha managed to dodge that one too. She heard something from her right. She turned to look but was knocked out.
Inuyasha was relieved when he saw Kikyo get knocked out. Sango had thrown Hiraikotsu, knocking her out. Sango went to collect her weapon. "What happened?" Sango asked as she picked it up. She checked on the woman. She was just knocked out.
"Lots of youkai came to stop me." Inuyasha said. "Then she came. We need to go."
Inuyasha took off running towards the houses. "Wait, did you find anything out about Kagome?" Miroku asked.
(~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~)
"I heard that Naraku was going to erase my mark on Kagome by sunset and then make her his." Inuyasha said.
"The sun has already set." Sango said.
"I know that." Inuyasha growled. "That's why we have to hurry."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Kagome cried as Naraku kissed her neck. So far he'd managed to rip open her shirt. He was holding her down. She could barely move. She couldn't do anything. Naraku lifted his head for some reason.

Kagome saw this as her chance. She kicked him off of her and she ran to the other side of the room. "I'd rather die than be with you!" Kagome yelled. She closed her eyes and concentrated.

She felt tired. Just as she was about to pass out when Inuyasha ran into the room with Sango and Miroku behind him. "Inuyasha." She said weakly and hit the floor.

"Kagome!" Inuyasha shouted. He ran to her and picked her up. He noticed her tear streaked face. Her shirt was ripped open and her wrists were red from where Naraku had held her.

He couldn't hear her heartbeat, nothing at all. She couldn't be dead. He'd just got there. He growled. "What the fuck did you do to her?" Inuyasha yelled.

"I did nothing. Seems like she committed suicide." Naraku smiled.

"You bastard!" Inuyasha yelled. He ran to him and punched him knocking him back and out of the window. "Watch Kagome."

Miroku and Sango watched as Inuyasha jumped out of the window after Naraku. Miroku walked over to Kagome and put her on the bed. They were worried about who would win the battle.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Naraku had just gotten up when Inuyasha landed on the ground. "Wrong thing to do." Naraku said. Tentacles shot out from his arms and headed towards Inuyasha.
Inuyasha saw it and dodged it. He jumped all over the place, dodging the tentacles. He was not going to lose this fight. His mate was dead because of the person in front of him. He charged him but was knocked back by one of the tentacles.
Inuyasha skidded on the ground a couple of feet. He got back onto his feet. Naraku wrapped his tentacles around Inuyasha making it so that he couldn't move. He struggled to get free. He couldn't even use his claws to cut the tentacles.
"I told you before I would have Kagome." Naraku said. "She's already dead. You will be too."
Naraku tightened his hold on him. Inuyasha's anger grew when he heard about Kagome's death. His eyes bled red. He growled and then ripped the tentacles apart. He growled loudly.
Naraku looked at the hanyou. He wasn't a hanyou anymore. His eyes were blood red, his claws and fangs were longer, and on each cheek was a purple stripe under his eye. His aura was stronger and he was giving off power in waves.
"You killed my bitch." The youkai Inuyasha growled. He ran towards Naraku at an incredible speed.
Naraku couldn't even see his movements. He did see him when he stopped in front of him. Inuyasha grabbed him by the neck and held him about a foot off the ground. He flexed his claws once before shoving his hand through Naraku's chest.
Naraku dropped to the ground. "Damn you." He muttered before falling to the ground.
"Inuyasha!" Sango yelled from the window. She'd seen Naraku fall to the ground.
Inuyasha blinked and his eyes turned back to its original color. His claws and fangs shrank back to its normal size and the streaks on his cheeks faded away. He looked down at his feet at Naraku. "Kagome." He whispered before jumping through the window.
He jumped over to the bed and held her in his arms. He noticed the mark was gone. "I'm sorry I didn't make it in time." Inuyasha whispered. A single tear fell from his face as he kissed her on the lips one last time.
