~The Journey~

"Wot are ye doing here, Inuyasha?"

"Do ye really have to ask that?" When she refused to answer he rolled his eyes at her stubbornness "Tis time to take ye home."

"This is my home." She replied hatefully.

"Nay home is with yer husband." Inuyasha countered with a hint of amusement dancing in his amber pools.

"Ye'er no husband, yer just a liar."

His amusement was quickly banished. "Stop acting like a child, ye'er coming with me regardless if I have to drag ye."

He made a move to grab her, but Kagome eluded his grasp. "Don't. Touch. Me." She bit out tightly.

Stalking after her he grabbed onto her arm sneering into her face. "I have had enough of this insolence!" He tightened his grip when she tried to pull away.

"Ye have until morning to be ready." He paused. "We will leave for Glenglarren at sun up."

Yanking free Kagome ran pass Inuyasha glaring him down the whole time. "Ye'll regret the day ye ever crossed my path MacEnroy; if ye think my father's hate for ye was something to reckon with." She paused then smiled sweetly. "Just remember at all time's that ye'll bedding down with yer enemy."

Before she could walk away he grabbed a hold of her arm quirking an eyebrow. "Is that a threat, lass?"

Kagome pulled free once again with her head held high. "Nay it's a promise, I was sure ye'd recognize one by now." She said sarcastically. "But then again all ye know how to do is lie."

Inuyasha hated the look of contempt she shot him he dropped her arm as if it had burned him and once again he watched her go.

***

"Kagome I have a favor to ask of ye."

Kagome turned a sad smile on to Mother Superior as she packed away what few precious belongings she had.

"What can I do for ye Mother Superior?" She asked.

Mother Superior entered Kagome's room and closed the door behind her.

"I wish to as if ye would take Sango with ye?"

Kagome paused what she was doing and looked at Mother Superior. "Why?"

Mother Superior fidgeted under Kagome's scrutiny. "Because I figured ye'd would want a friend in the new place ye travel to, not to mention she could help ye with the child."

Kagome could see the truth in Mother Superior's eyes, but she could also she wasn't telling her everything. "Wot else?"

Slumping her shoulders in defeat Mother Superior sighed. "Sango is not cut out for this life she's wild, spirited, and a verra beautiful lass, Kagome."

Kagome nodded to each of the things Mother Superior listed off about Sango. "Aye, I agree."

Mother Superior smiled then sudden her smile faded. "Do ye think yer husband will allow her to come along?"

This troubled Kagome because that was something she did not know. "I'll ask him in the morning." She said as she gently fingered her rosary. "If he refuses, than I'll just simply refuse to ride with him to Glenglarren."

Mother Superior just stood there in shock as she watched Kagome continue to pack. Kagome used to be such a nice girl, but this new Kagome...Was stronger, and more assertive. Kagome had gained backbone behind all the wrong doings committed against her by the very men who should have been protecting her.

***

Inuyasha had always believed himself to be a fair man, and so did others, but for some reason his 'wife' made him doubt such claims.

"I've said no and that's final." Inuyasha said as he strutted over to his horse and saddled it up.

"Why she will nay cause ye any problems." Kagome fussed as she trotted closely on his heels.

"Why?" He asked as he paused in his ministrations. "Because I said so!"

Kagome's brown eyes narrowed on his back crossing her arms she spoke. "I won't leave if she can't come with me."

"Are ye verra certain about that?" He asked in a dangerous tone.

"Aye, verra."

He sighed and ran a hand through his hair. "Not certain enough." Inuyasha murmured as he stalked up to her and hefted her over his shoulder.

"Tis not fair!" She yelled beating on the massive muscles on his back. "Put me down ye oaf!"

"Nay, not till ye learn some respect."

"Tis not fair." She repeated. "Yer taking me to a place where I will know no one!" She breathed.

Out of no where Miroku appeared looking quiet at ease in his clean, crisp white shirt, braises battle kilt, and clan tartan. "Wot's one wee lass gonna hurt, huh?"

Inuyasha winced slightly as his wife's little fist connected with a sore spot on his back. "Fine." He grumbled, as he not so politely dropped Kagome down on her bottom. "Just make sure she stays out of my way."

Although her arse hurt from begin so gracelessly dropped on the ground like a sack of potatoes Kagome took the hand Miroku extended toward her.

Once she was on her feet she frowned a little when Miroku was not quick to release her.

"Thank ye." She said as she tugged gently, but firmly trying to get him to release her hand.

Miroku watched as Kagome squirmed a bit and found her discomfort utterly hilarious. Inuyasha would have his work cut out for him; because his bride was quite a prude after all, all he was doing was touching her hand. For GOD'S SAKE he was behaving.

Miroku bent down a bit deciding her would tease her a bit. He brushed a kiss across her knuckles. "Well I shall take my leave Milady there is much packing to still be done."

Kagome watched in horror as he kissed her palm then strutted off with a cheesy smile on his face she couldn't believe the audacity of men!

***

Miroku grinned lopsidedly at Inuyasha as he approached. Miroku could tell he was angry.

Holding up his hands once Inuyasha stood before him he feigned innocence, but not very well.

"I was just trying to ruffle her feathers a bit tis all, dinnae act as if I was trying to steal her away." His face cracked and a smile spread out. "Anyway I like my lass to be a bit friendlier."

"I could careless about wot ye like I want ye to stay away from her. Ye got it?" Inuyasha asked.

When Miroku was too slow in answering Inuyasha socked him one upside the head. "Well I'm waiting old friend."

Miroku rubbed the spot on his head where Inuyasha had hit him. "Gee, a bit possessive aren't we." When Inuyasha made a move to strike again Miroku held his hands up in a defeated gesture. "I got it."

"Good." Inuyasha turned to walk off. "Oh and since ye just had to say something about Kagome bringing that lass with her ye get the pleasure of having a saddle mate."

Miroku shrugged. "It could have been worse."

***

"So I'm going with ye to Glenglarren?" Sango asked as she watched Kagome toss her thing in to a travel bag.

"Yes, Mother Superior thought it best." Kagome said as she finished packing Sango's things. "Now make haste we are leaving verra soon."

"Verra soon?" She asked as she pulled her hair back. "Like?"

Kagome sighed. "Verra soon like now."

Sango's mouthed widen a bit. "Oh."

"Yes, now lets go."

Sango followed closely behind Kagome and they both waited for Inuyasha to appear with their horses.

Once Inuyasha did arrive he reached for Kagome's hand.

She stared at it for a moment. "Umm…where's my horse?" She asked.

Inuyasha grinned. "Unless ye've purchased one I would say ye don't have one."

"And ye couldn't spare one?" She asked.

"Ye should be thankful that I'm not making ye walk to Glenglarren."

Kagome chose to ignore his last comment. "And wot is Sango to ride."

Inuyasha looked over Kagome's shoulder at the somewhat smaller yet shapelier woman. "She is to ride with Miroku."

Kagome could not see Sango's flinch but it didn't go unnoticed by Inuyasha. "Are ye cold lass?" He asked misinterpreting her body movement.

"Nay, not really, twas just a spasm." She lied.

"Well here comes Miroku ye'd best saddle up and get as comfortable as possible because we'll be riding hard." He said gruffly. Inuyasha turned his attention to Kagome, and once again offered her his hand. When she took it he pulled her up into the saddle and sat her in front of him.

"We are leaving now so if ye have not said yer goodbyes now ye never will."

Kagome rolled her eyes at his rather domineering ways. "I have said my goodbyes."

"Good." He said. The he turned to his men once he saw that Sango was astride Miroku's horse he called out. "Tis time to ride out men!"

***

Once they rode out of the wall of Convent and past the gardens that surround it Kagome cast a mournful look over her shoulder. The goodbye's had been sad and tearful; and although Sango had yet to say a thing Kagome knew she was glad to be leave the walls of the Convent.

Kagome looked over at Sango who still had a blush twinging her cheeks from having to ride so intimately close to Miroku, but from where Kagome sat she could tell that they were getting along fabulous because for every unwanted touch Miroku gave he received a nice lump on his head or a good scolding from Sango.

Kagome was unsure what the future held for Sango and herself, but hopefully a bright one because she wouldn't settle for less when it came to her baby.

This journey may prove to be a difficult one for a woman in her condition, but she'd make it.

After traveling most of the day at a hard set pace she smiled when it was slowed. She enjoyed the leisure pace they were traveling as it gave her a chance to see things she hadn't seen within the walls of the Convent.... The Convent...She was going miss it there, and she would really miss Mother Superior.

But now was no time to dwell in the past the future is what matters....

***

They had been traveling at a leisure pace for several days now. The weather had been quite agreeable since they had left the Convent. Inuyasha had ordered for everyone to stop riding for the tonight so they could set up camp here in the woods where they could easily watch out for each other.

Kagome sat silently in the cool water as she watched Sango tentatively dip her toe in the water checking out how it felt.

"It's fine, Sango." She said as she sunk deeper into the water.

Shrugging her shoulders as she jumped into the water. "It's freezing." She chattered.

Laughing as Sango sputtered she said. "Ye needed a little cold water."

"And wot is that supposed to mean?" Sango asked, getting over the coldness of the water.

"Oh I don't know, but I'll give ye a hint; yer a flirt." Kagome said as she exited the stream.

Sango scoffed. "Flirt? I hardly call hitting a Mon being a flirt!"

Kagome laughed. "Well he obviously sees it in a different as do others, such as myself."

"Well it's not like we're in the Convent anymore." Sango grumbled as she stepped out of the small creek and rung out her hair. "And it's not like ye don't like the feel of yer bonny mon chest and groin pressed all up against ye while yer riding."

Kagome stiffened. "I dinnae like a thing about that mon's…well his body can be a wee bit enchanting but tis all."

Sango began to dress. "I ken your first time wasn't all that pleasant."

"Nay twas not, but howbeit it does nay matter because I would rather go live with my father than lie with a mon again."

"Strong words Kagome for a woman who is married to such a virile looking mon." Sango said as she finished lacing her breeches.

"Why do ye dress like a mon Sango?" Kagome asked suddenly. "Ye never did it at the Convent."

"I arrived there in breeches but Shiori had them taken and burned…Anyway I like breeches better than dresses they leave me feeling too exposed. Vulnerable."

"Oh, I guess I understand that." Kagome said as she dressed slowly. "So Miroku dinnae mind when ye asked him for a pair of breeches?"

Sango grinned lopsidedly. "Well he doesn't know."

"Oh boy Sango I can see already that ye are coming completely out of yer shell." Kagome said as Sango just laughed.

"C'mon lets get back before the men come looking for us." Sango said.

"Aye sounds good."

***

Inuyasha trailed back to camp to find everyone waiting to eat. He dropped the carcass of a wild boar before Miroku who grabbed a hold of his knife and a hold of one of the boars tusk then proceeded to drag it off.

He saw his wife and Sango exchange confuse glances; as he approached them he found Kagome sewing and Sango drawling designs with her finger in the mud.

"Sango?" He said as he crouched down eye level with her. "Do ye ken how to start a fire?"

She looked at Kagome who nodded a little. "Yeah I know how to start a fire." She smiled a little cockily. "I can I have the biggest fire ye've ever seen fired up in minutes."

He smirk. "Well would ye please help Miroku with our dinner by starting the fire?"

"Sure why not." She said as she stood and dusted off walking away leaving Kagome alone with Inuyasha.

Inuyasha took a seat next to her. "It seems this is the first time we've had a chance to talk since our journey began."

Kagome nodded as she continued to sew. Inuyasha watched with rapid fascination as Kagome hit her mark with precision.

"Who is that for?" He asked.

Kagome sighed as she sat the body scarf down on her lap. "Sango." She answered plainly. "She ripped her old one so I'm sewing her a new one."

"Yer very good with you hand's." He noted.

She smiled shyly. "Thank ye... Inuyasha."

Inuyasha liked this Kagome much better than the other; the other one was just mean. He could tell she was relaxing in his presence and for that he was very grateful.

Kagome didn't like the way he kept staring at her but she chose to ignore him; up until now she thought she was doing a good job of that until he decided to plopped down and talk.

They continued to sit in a companionable silence as Kagome went back to her needlework. Nearly 30-minutes went by before an interruption came, and Kagome felt a little bad that she was losing his company.

"Inuyasha there seems to be a wee problem."

Inuyasha looked at the man, no boy who interrupted his quiet time with his wife. "Wot is it lad?" He asked gruffly

The man looked nervously between Kagome and Inuyasha. "Umm, I'm not sure ye want yer wife to hear."

Inuyasha bit back a smile when he heard Kagome snort. "Speak yer piece lad she's stronger than she looks."

"Well Inuyasha Sir it seems that we are being attacked by a band of thieves who call themselves Wolves."

Inuyasha had had a few run in with them before, and knew the leader very well. "Where are they?"

"Well I'm right here ye mutt." Came a voice that echoed through the treetops.

Inuyasha spun around when he heard the all too familiar cocky voice. "Show yerself Kouga!" He barked although he was not really concerned with seeing his face.

Laughter could be heard among the trees causing the other men to reach for their weapons.

"Men scatter out." He ordered.

Inuyasha looked at Kagome who seemed to be unfazed by what was going on calmly she sat working on her sewing. "Kagome, go find Sango, and Miroku."

He was surprised when she nodded, and followed his orders. She left very slowly though before she broke out into a sprint.

"Well it does seem that ye've captured yerself quite a beauty, and a Murray at that!" Kouga snickered as he walked out from behind a tree with his daggers in hand. "How rare is that? Seeing that the clan is mainly made up of males." He said as he watched Kagome retreating body.

Inuyasha didn't like the way Kouga stared after Kagome. "What do ye want Kouga?" Inuyasha asked. "Ye only have so much time before my men return and see yer face?"

Kouga threw down his daggers at Inuyasha's feet. "Is that how ye greet a friend." Kouga feigned hurt but quickly smiled. "I just wanted to come see ye old friend seeing that yer in my neck of the woods, and after all we have made so many sweet memories together." Kouga said sarcastically.

Inuyasha eyed Kouga warily. "Wot do ye want?"

Kouga laughed as he signaled for his men to come out of hiding. "Actually I've come to bring ye warning."

Inuyasha stood before Kouga waiting for him to finish.

Kouga tapped his foot and tsked while looking at his nails and picking at imaginary specks on his armor.

Inuyasha reached for his satchel and sighed. "Something's never change do they Kouga?" He asked as he withdrew a handful of coins, and handed them to Kouga.

"Thank ye." He said growing serious. "Now as I was saying I've come to bring ye warning about a man named Hojo, it is said that he has a bone to pick with ye." Kouga informed.

"It couldn't be me because I've never heard of 'em before."

Kouga smiled. "Oh dog face but ye have, but I'll let ye figure that part out on yer own." Kouga stretched. "Well until next time."

Kouga signaled for his men to follow. "Oh and Inuyasha!" He yelled before fully disappearing into he woods. "Give my regards to that wife of yers!"

Inuyasha growled before turning his back, and going in search of his wife.

"Men assemble I will return after I find my wife."

***

Miroku knew something was up when here heard Kagome say that Inuyasha was talking to some man named Kouga.

Kagome didn't like how silent Miroku became after she mentioned the tree top man's name. "Who is he Miroku?" She asked. "Is he dangerous?"

Miroku was about to answer when Inuyasha came up behind Kagome and rested his hand on her shoulder. "To answer yer first question." Inuyasha said as he turned Kagome to face him. "He is no one important, and about him being dangerous…only to himself."

Kagome rolled her eyes as she shrugged his hand off. "Fine dinnae tell me anything I will find out on my own." She grumbled. "C'mon Sango lets go tell the men that dinner is ready."

Both Miroku and Inuyasha watched them leave before either of them spoke.

"So what did Kouga want?" Miroku asked as he began to cut slices off the boar tasting it for himself.

"He gave me a warning." Inuyasha walked over to the slab of meat that had cooked over the huge fire that was still going. "That Sango knows how start a huge fire." He stated firmly hoping it was enough to change the subject.

Miroku nodded noticing the change in subject. "Yeah she can start a fire in my pants too." He jeered. "She's wearing them." He said as an after thought.

Inuyasha was surprised when he heard Miroku crack a naughty joke it had been nearly three years since Miroku had show any remote interest in the opposite sex since Maggie died.

"I take it ye like Sango." Inuyasha said as he began to cut the meat making sure there was enough for everyone.

Miroku shrugged. "I hear the footsteps of hungry men."

Inuyasha found it funny that he and Miroku both chose avoid the question they didn't want to talk about bye changing the subject. "We leave for home first thing tomorrow." He announced.

Miroku nodded. "I'll let ye off for now, but I want a full explanation of what Kouga said later."

Inuyasha shrugged. "Feh."
