Chapter IX: Ether
Sango walked into her little brother room only to see that he was gone. "Where in the hell is he?" She said walking further into the room. Sango sat on his bed and rubbed the thick quilt. "My little brother. Why are you so cruel?" She then looked at the picture of a family on the dresser. Two kids, two parents.
"Mom? Dad? If you're listening, lead Kohaku in the right path." She then fingered the glass picture until a small yellow envelope caught her eye. She picked it up and opened it.
"What are you doing in my room? In my personal things." Kohaku said walking into his room.
Upon hearing her brother's voice, she dropped the envelope and all it's contents. "I was...um... looking for you."
"As you can see, I wasn't in here." Kohaku said walking over to pick up the pictures that were scattered on the floor.
"I think I might..." Then a certain photo caught her eye with a certain familiar roomate of hers "Why do you have that picture?"
"What?" Kohaku said putting the pictures back in the envelope.
"You heard what I said." Sango said folding her arms.
"Don't act dumb, sis. You know the deal."
Sango looked up with fearful eyes. "But...."
"What? If you're going to give me some speech, I rather not hear it."
"I know her."

"InuYasha, I'm so proud to see you with a woman and such a beautiful girl like her." His mother praised.
InuYasha smiled brightly as he just stared at his mother look bright and healthy. I can't believe this is happening to me.
"Yashie, why are you looking at me like that?" His mother said in confusion.
"I'm...just so glad you're awoke, momma." InuYasha said with his voice dripping in emotion.
Kagome stood dumbfounded at the scene. She never saw InuYasha's life beyond the doors of his apartment and to see him this emotional about his mother brought back memories of her own. Then Kagome fell to the floor screaming in an emotional breakdown. Her body convulsed in pain as she held on to herself.
All heads of the Taisho family turned towards Kagome. InuYasha was the first running to her side. He held her and she was like puddy in his hands. "What's wrong, Kagome."
Kagome started to wail and cry then she looked into his amber eyes with bloodshot stormy ones and she felt something she never thought she would.....fear. Then all of the tears took ahold of her energy.
InuYasha held her as she started to wail and say incoherent things and all he could pick up was something about my mother. Then she looked at him with fearful eyes then she fainted. "Kagome!" InuYasha said as she went limp in his arms.
It was silent in the room as Sesshomaru and Izayoi looked at the scene in front of them.
"InuYasha sure knows how to pick them." Sesshomaru said breaking the silence.
"Fuck you, Sess."

"What?" Kohaku said.
"I know her!" Sango shouted as tears threatened her eyes. Sango's known the assassin bussiness for too long to know that having your picture in an envelope meant that you were as good as dead.
"I'm sorry, San. You know if I could I...."
"I know." Sango said as tears flowed down her cheek.
"I mean if I don't do the deal, I'm dead. You're dead. Even grandma."
"But why! Why Kagome?!"
"Don't give me her name, San. You're going to make it worse."
"I'm sorry."
"How do you even know this woman?" Kohaku said in disbelief.
"I met her in a bar and she's was out of a place and..."
"That's what you get from picking up women in bars. Do you even know who this is?"
Sango shook her head. Her eyes puffy and swollen.
"Drug lord Higurashi's daughter."

Kagome woke up to see the amber eyes of InuYasha looking sternly at her. "What happened?"
"I'd like to ask you the same thing. One minute you're fine and the next you're crying your damn eyes out. What the fuck is really wrong with you?" InuYasha said sneering her.
A fresh new batch of tears began to gather at Kagome's eyes and InuYasha held his hand up. "Oh, don't start that shit. Just tell me what's your deal. Why you coming to my apartment with black eye, strange exes coming to beat the hell out of you with steel poles, wanting to be trained to kill somebody, and wailing like a damn coyote at any given damn minute. Tell me what's wrong?!" InuYasha yelled as he grabbed her shoulders.
Kagome snatched herself away from his grip. "You just don't get it! You never will get my pain! All I wanted was a regular life! Why did I get stuck this curse? What did I do to deserve this? I just want my mother." Kagome said as she started to cry again.
InuYasha didn't have anything to say to her after her statement. He wanted to stop her cries, comfort her sorrows, and tell her that everything would be okay, but the cold armor around his heart wouldn't allow it. "Wench, I just can't handle you anymore." He said then left out of the room.
Kagome watched as InuYasha left out of the hospital room. She wanted to tell him everything, but her shame wouldn't let her. Many nights she have suffered from insomina because of her mother's death and her father's abuse. She couldn't eat and often felt depressed and still did, but her main problem with her father's abuse was sometimes she have felt it was her fault. Every night she regretted never telling her mother. Wondering what could she have done to her father to make him not love her like a daughter, but treat her like a common whore.
InuYasha leaned against her hospital door and thought. Somehow he felt that being with her was trouble. It was something about her that made him feel like worry was coming his way. He ran a frustrated hand over his face and trailed it down his platnium tresses. "This is way out of my hands."
"Trouble in paradise, little brother."
InuYasha turned to look in the eyes of his older brother. "Stuff it, Sess. This doesn't concern you."
"Yes, I couldn't care less about the squabbles you have with your wench."
"She's not my wench!" InuYasha stormed.
"I'm not really concerned with it. I am, however, interested in your occupation. Since, mother is awoke and well, will you discontinue your stay with Higurashi?"
InuYasha remained silent and thought about it. The only reason of him getting into the assasination business was to finance his mother's health. Now, that she was okay. Should he stop? "Of course, but I'll finish this last job."
"I will not tolerate this. I have a minacious feeling of your work."
"Well, you're not my mother...."
"But how would mother feel about this. Should I inform her?" Sesshomaru said leaning on to the action.
"You always were a snitch, Sess. Don't tell momma. Don't bother her with this. She's suffered enough. I'm grown! So, let me handle my life."
"Okay, little brother. I'll give you this, but I do have a bad feeling towards it. Be careful." He said setting a comforting arm on his shoulder.
"You aint got to be afraid, Sess." InuYasha nodded then turned around and entered Kagome's room.
Sesshomaru watched and sighed. "Little brother, I not fear you, but your beast." Then walked solemnly down the corridor.
InuYasha walked in and locked eyes with the mysterious blue eyed woman who haunted his life. "We don't have time to lounge around. I'm going to take you home because I have to get some work done."
Kagome rose gently. "What about training?"
"I don't think you're up to it. I'm just going to walk you back to the apartment."
"But...." Kagome said raising out of bed. "You promised."
"And I'll keep it, but now you're going home. There's no argument about this. Get your shit and let's go." InuYasha went over to the chair close by to grab her bag.
"Alright." Kagome said sliding off the bed.
"Hey, wench?" InuYasha asked handing her the bag.
Kagome snatched her bag. "Don't call me a wench."
"Whatever. I want you up tommorrow at four in the morning."
"What? Four in the morning? For what?"
"To train. I ain't joking either. If you want to get this done, we got to move quick. Now that I have time on my hands I might take a vacation."
Kagome smiled. "Ooh, where are we going?"
"We're not going anywhere. As soon as you're done, you're out of my home and out of my life. You hear that?"
"Whatever." Kagome grumbled.
"Now, let's go."

Naraku sat in his chair as he inhaled the smoke from the cigar down his lungs. He exhaled slowly as the cloud of whitish gray filled the area. "Kagura, I want you to tell me truth. I'l give one more chance."
"I am telling you the truth. Why would I deceive you?"
"I don't know why. You tell me?!" He yelled making Kagura flinch."I won't hurt you. I already know that you're working with Higurashi. I already know that."
Does he know? Or is he bluffing? If I tell I him I'm working, he'll kill me. If I tell him I don't and he proves I'm a liar, he'll kill me.
"Kagura, I am an impatient man."
"I already told you. I'm not working with Higurashi." Kagura whimpered.
"Wrong answer." He said as he pulled out a Desert Eagel and shot a round sending it through Kagura's head.
Kagura's head jarred back due to the impact of the bullet. Blood and hot flesh stained the floor.
"Damn, I just got my carpet cleaned."
=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=
InuYasha walked into the apartment with Kagome in tow. "Alright, I'm going to leave. Don't wait up because I don't know when I'm going to be back."
"You're leaving me here all alone. What if..."
"Nothing's going to happen to you." InuYasha said.
"No, what if I get hungry? You don't have anything left in the 'frig."
InuYasha sighed. "Look...um..." InuYasha mumbled as he walked over to the refrigerator. "Um, turn around."
"Why?"
"Just do it, damn it."
Kagome scoffed. "God." She drawled before turning around.
Once her eyes were out of sight, InuYasha went into the refrigerator and received fifty dollars worth of money out of the ice box. "Alright, turn back around." He said.
Kagome sighed as she turned around. "If you're trying to hide the money you have stashed in the ice box, I already found that when I cleaned out the refrigerator."
"What, wench?!" InuYasha said balling his fists.
"Hey! Don't worry. I didn't steal anything. Honest."
He sighed. "Whatever. Here. Use this to order you something." He said handing her the money.
"Okay."
"Whatever." InuYasha said walking towards the door. He turned around. "Oh, yeah and wench?"
"What did I say about calling me that?"
"Yeah, whatever. That conversation we had earlier ain't over. I don't know shit about you and you're staying in my home. You could be trouble for all I know. So, when I get back..." InuYasha said leaving the warning in the air as he shut the door.
He walked down the corridors of his apartment. "Damn, she's like a wife." He said as he hit the elevator and a little kid with a hoody ran past him. "Hey, kid. Watch yourself."
"Yeah, whatever." The kid said walking away.
"Kids." InuYasha scoffed as he walked inside the elevator.

The little boy lifted off his hood showing his brushy black locks. His freckles making his face so much more innocent than his eyes that held some much more fire. He took out his signature axe with a silver chain linked to it. "I'm sorry, San. Don't mean to hurt you, but it's meant to be done."
=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=
InuYasha got off on the ground floor and walked out of the elevator towards the main door. He didn't get one foot out before he stopped dead in his tracks.
'Why do I feel this eery feeling in my gut. Like's trouble's right under my nose'
Then it hit him like a tsunami wave. "The boy!" He shouted.
