Chapter 02: A tester???

 

Well, this fanfic is situated after Inuyasha and Kagome have mated, I'll soon upload that other fanfic but please bear with me until I do. So, Inu and Kags did their thing and they are back, as mates to search for more shards… Until something prompts in their way.

Inuyasha sat distinctly above the well.

“Come on, Kagome!!! You're too slow!” he yelled at the girl that was standing up from the bottom of the well.

“Oi! I heard you! So don't go screaming that loud!” she taped her hands over her ears.

“Yayy” she shrieked when he grabbed her by the bag on her back, plucking it up and setting her over the grass. He took the bag away form her, placing it on his own back.

“Thanks, koi” she placed a soft kiss on his cheek. He smiled and clasped her hand with his, interlacing their fingers.

“Come on, Kagome. Shippou will be happy to see you after so long.”

“I know he will, since I brought him a good deal of candies and chocolate from that candy store we visited yesterday…That's what's so heavy in the bag… that and your ramen.”

“Keh, that ramen is much better that those candy stuff”

Kagome laughed softly, her hanyou was just playing rough, she knew he loved mursh-mellows as much as he loved his ramen. `It would be good that he loved my own home made food too'

 

“Kagomeeee!” the shout came from a very distinct fox pup screaming at the top of his lungs and running at her at high speed. She opened up her arms just in time to receive the soft furred ball that landed heavily on her making her back up a step even tough Inuyasha was supporting her.

“How are you, Shippo-chan?”

“I'm happy, Kagome-okaasan!!! Because you're back!!” Kagome flinched at how he had taken to call her. It was a bit rushed for her but somehow it made her warm up inside to be called that way.

“I'm happy too, Shippo-chan” she hugged him to her chest while looking intently into those golden eyes that searched for hers all the time.

“So, runt, what have you all being up to while we were gone, hu?” Inuyasha scooped him by the tail and set Shippo on Kagome's shoulder to be able to question him.

“Well, the usual. Miroku's being groping Sango now and then, but even that wasn't as often as it should to be interesting!! It was quite boring really!. Are we going to go traveling again? Are we?”

“Any shards rumor?”

“Not that they told me about...anyway they wouldn't have told me if there were.”

“Now, now, don't be mean Shippo-chan, you know they would have told you. It's just that sometimes we try to protect you.”

“But I'm older now!”

“Shippo, you're still little…”

“But I'm a youkai! I'm old for your human years standard!!!” he puffed up, trying to appear bigger.

“That maybe true, but you're still young, and you know it. You wont fool me with the youkai aging thing.” Inuyasha said seriously making the little kit look down.

“It's true you have grown a lot, Shippo-chan, if you want to you could start having some grown up resposability's… “

“Kagome, he's just too-“ but the look of happiness from Shippo made Inuyahsa cut that sentence before he hurt the baby real bad. There was no doubt the kit didn't know what he was getting at, Kagome had it in her to be a great mother. Surprisingly the thought made his chest fill up with emotion… and, pride? yes, pride, indeed. For she was her mate and one day she'd bear his pups, he smiled, he felt at a surprising ease with that prospect.

 

“Inuyasha… You look scarry. Stop thinking!” Shippo tapped him on the shoulder. The angry look the hanyou wore when he turned back made the little kitsune shriek and start running for his life.

“Come here you runt! If you run you'll only stretch the agony!!!”

Kagome shook her head as she came in view of the hut of Kaede. Sango was standing by the door, looking very pretty with her long hair loose over her shoulder. She handed Kagome the strap to tie it back.

“So how was the future, Kagome?”

“As usual…” the short answer puzzled the exterminator.

“How did your family took it that you are Inuyasha's mate?”

“Errr. I didn't say it like that…”

“What did you tell them?” Sango took Kagome's hands in hers and held the younger girl's stare.

“I just said that we had been dating for long and that he had proposed to me and I had said yes. So… We have some time until we can cope with things here in the Sengoku Jidai and then marry. If Inuyasha wants to…”

“Don't concern yourself with that. He'd die for you, he has proven that already so don't get all worked up for some little human custom. He will do it if you ask him.”

The security in Sango's speech gave Kagome new strength, they still had a whole great number of problems to solve but it all would in due time. It didn't mattered were would they live, or in what era, somehow it'd all be okay.

 

“Kagome-sama!!!, welcome back!” greeted Miroku coming through the door.

“Miroku-sama. Hi. I was wondering if we have any news of shikon shards?”

“Well, no, not yet. But do not worry yourself with it. I have a plan.” Miroku seemed a small child with a good secret. His face glowed and stars seemed to dance before his eyes.

“Don't get too exited, houshi-sama” said Sango, eyeing his hand suspiciously as it was lifted from his side. She had to be alert always because of his lecherous inclinations.

“Indeed, Sango, such cold nature” he said lowering his hand to it's previous position.

 

“Please, come in Kagome-chan” said Kaede from inside the hut. Kagome did as she was told, promptly sitting by the old woman's side. Kaede was holding a strange object in her hands. It was wrapped in white leather, quite anusual.

“I have to show you. Inuyasha sit, please. Miroku, Sango, you too.” she looked disapprovingly at Shippo that squirmed free of Inuyasha's hand and run to Kagome's lap. The young miko patted him on the head before turning her attention to the thing hiding under the layers of cloth.

“What is it, babaa?”

“So rude, Inuyasha, you should learn some manners!”

“Cut it, that thing's got all my interest.” the awkward statement had five pairs of eyes focusing on him, “What? Can't you sense the youki emanating form it?”

“Youki?” replied Sango.

“It's the youkai energy, like their spiritual power…” explained Kaede “this object has a lot of spiritual power mixed in. It appeared in this hut a few days ago. I couldn't get it to react to anything I did”

“That's what you have being doing all this time! You get burning old spices and chanting all day. I thought it was some thing that people your age did” Shippo's naïve comment had her on edge. Deciding to do as if she had not heard, although everyone was chuckling behind their hands Kaede followed her story.

“Until you came back and it started to glow, a sky-blue light as I recall. And then it turned black and it shut again. So I believe it has some conection with youkai's”

“Gesse, babaa that's not much you figured. I could have told you what it was. It's a tester” Inuyasha grabbed the dark orb and threw it on the air. It shone bright blue and stilled at mid height.

“Whaa-“ Sango broke off when the little thing started moving around. It's warm light bathed her. A deep blue that touched her skin and made her think of the ocean.

“What is a tester?” Shippo touched it carefully with his finger tips.

“A tester?? Indeed? I've heard of them but never saw one” Miroku said.

“This is a youkai tester, it can only work under the command of strong youkai-blood. That's why it shutted itself off when Babaa tried to use it.” Inuyasha extended his hands toward the thing and it came obediently flying toward his palm.

“Could you answer, dammit, what is that thingy for?” Shippo said a bit angry for not knowing about it.

“Shippo-chan!! Don't use that language!” Kagome said a bit angry.

“Gomen ne, okaa-san”

“And now, Inuyahsa, please let us know what is a tester. I'm dieing with curiosity too.”

Inuyasha eyed Kagome,

“Testers were used by youkai to look for strong mates and judge their abilities. It can give information regarding one's blood lines. At least that was their first use. Then the humans found about them and they tried to use them to hunt youkai's. The mikos broke their seals and used them relentlessly until the youkais took it to them to destroy every one of them. Since we don't really need them, we have our senses that are more reliable, we just forgot this incident.” he sighted. “This should be destroyed, it has no further use”

 

Just as Inuyasha said this, the little blue orb turned completely black and shot up knocking him off and flying through the sky.

“Catch it!” he ordered. As he plunged after it, uselessly.

Sango dodged it's blow and called for Kirara to follow it. It was hard to follow the little thing through the forest. Suddenly it disappeared.

“Why is it important to catch it?” breathed Sango while catching her air.

“It shouldn't have a mind of it's own, that thingy is weird.”

“That's no explanation…” reasoned Miroku.

“You know, it had some miko energy intertwined with the other one” said Kagome walking slowly with Shippo by her side. Kaede nodded to express her agreement.

“It's corrupted then. There!” he shouted running at his top speed after the light. It had turned white now and it glowed fiercely.

He dodged the trees climbing into the branches easily due to his great abilities. Even if he was a hanyou, since his youkai blood was so strong his powers were great.

He stopped dead at the sight his ayes encountered. A pack of a dozen monstrous looking youkais were around a lump covered in white on the ground.

“Hey, leave this forest at once!” he commanded.

“Who might you be to ask this of us?” required a horrible looking ogre with only one eye.

“This is my land.” the short sentence made them shrank back.

They knew he was more powerful than them. They backed up, forming a circle interposing with the bundle of clothes that lay in the clearing. A tall figure jumped form a tree nearby. The sluggish movements reminded him of a snake.

He sniffed `Indeed, a snake'

“So, you're Inuyasha, the hanyou that rules over this forest. The one who turned against his own race!!” with no further explanation he drew up his sword “I, Mirthe, the snake, shall have the pleasure of slaying you!”

“Keh, not a fucking chance”

He drew up Tessaiga and wielding it easily slayed him. Cutting through the other mongrels that fought as zombbie's he finally found himself surrounded by pieces of their flesh that crumpled in the ground making it look like a devastated war field.

The small orb came close to him all of a sudden, he made a try-out to grab it but it slipped easily.

“Fuck!” he stumbled trying to get hold of it, until it paused over the bundle of clothing on the floor. It was a very dirty and badly damaged but he distinctly distinguished a piece of kimono. A white kimono, that smelled suspiciously… like something he should remember but that kept avoiding him. It smelled… like an inu-youkai!!
