Part 7
~*~*~
Ayla stood on her tip toes to look out the high window in her room. It was early morning, and her breakfast had been delivered just a short time ago. But Ayla wasn’t interested in eating.
The sun was shining, the birds were singing, and the air smelled fresh. It had been a long time since Ayla had seen the three all together. The demons in her time made it very hard to have such a peaceful day. The birds were gone in her time, and the smell of blood, rot, and fear were always a constant.
Ayla wanted to go outside and play, but she knew that Naraku wouldn’t let her. So, she settled for looking out the window and enjoying the day that way. But the window was so high, she needed to stand on a stool to see out the window.
“Are you planning to escape through the window, then?” Naraku’s voice came from behind her and she turned around.
“No. It’s such a nice day that I wanted to see it. Your windows are too high.”
Naraku looked at her for a moment. Then he looked at her untouched breakfast. “You should eat. Your mother won’t be here for a while, so you need to keep up your strength.”
Ayla turned back to the window. “I’m not hungry right now. I’ll eat it later.”
Naraku watched her for a moment. He had decided last night that he was going to keep her. She had many uses and would be an essential part of destroying Inuyasha and the others. In fact, she could destroy any demon that was a threat to him. All he had to do was condition her to believe he was a suitable guardian for her.
“Ayla, sit.” Naraku gestured to the small table in the room. Ayla sighed and moved over to the table and chairs.
“I would like to talk with you. Did your mother ever tell you about her and her friends?”
“Yes.” Ayla grinned. “She told me that Miroku liked Sango’s butt, and Sango liked slapping him for it. Inuyasha’s a big teddy bear, but he likes to play the big meanie. And Shippou likes to make Inuyasha mad.”
“Is that all she told you about them?”
“She told me all about them. Why?”
“Didn’t she ever tell you about the bad things that they’ve done?” Naraku watched her face to see her reaction, and was pleased to see the confusion that played across her face.
“What bad things?”
“There are many bad things that they’ve done. Inuyasha tried to kill your mother. He’s murdered helpless people because he enjoyed it. Miroku stole your mother’s jewel fragment, and molests women because he enjoys it, whether or not they want his attention. Sango tried to kill Inuyasha, and stole his sword from him. She also attempted to kill her brother, Kohaku. And these are just a few of the things that they’ve done.” Naraku had decided to stay truthful with the things he told her, that way, when Ayla asked if these things were true, her mother and the others couldn’t deny it.
“You’re lying Momma would have told me And she wouldn’t be friends with them if they were bad people ”
“I’m not lying.” was all Naraku said. He decided to switch tactics. He knew it wouldn’t work to attack her mother’s virtue, but Ayla still hadn’t had enough time to develop a bond between her father yet. “Ayla, who is your father?”
Ayla huffed, crossing her arms. She was still mad that he would say things like that about her Momma’s friends. “I can’t say his name.” She pointed to her forehead where her crescent showed through her bangs. “He has this too.”
“Sesshoumaru?”
“Yes.”
Naraku smiled. The girl was pouting about what he had told her. A good sign that she was only holding to the belief that her mother wouldn’t make friends with such bad people. “I can’t say I’m surprised that he’s your father. After all, he never had any problems in trying to hurt Inuyasha through your mother. Or hurting your mother, for that matter.”
Ayla looked at him, confusion showing on her face again. “What do you mean?”
“Sesshoumaru hates hanyous. Has a very deep hatred for them. So, to him Inuyasha is a blemish to the family name. He’s tried to kill Inuyasha and Kagome many times. I’m sure he forced your mother into conceiving you just so he could hurt Inuyasha. After all, Inuyasha was your mother’s protector, and you are the reminder that he failed. It’s no wonder your mother left for so long.”
Ayla stared wide-eyed at Naraku. What he was saying couldn’t be true. But she remembered the tenseness in the camp the last time she was there. It just couldn’t be true, could it?
~~*~~*~~
Kagome sighed and sat up in her sleeping bag. It had been two days since Ayla had disappeared. And she still couldn’t sleep. It was late and everyone else was asleep.
Quietly, Kagome stood up and walked out of the camp. They had found a spring earlier and had decided to camp near it. Kagome had taken a bath earlier with Sango, so she just sat on the water’s edge, letting the sounds of the moving water soothe her nerves.
“Kagome?”
Kagome spun around, her knife in her hand poised to strike at the intruder. She sighed and put the blade away when she saw it was Inuyasha. “Sorry.”
“No, I’m sorry I startled you.” He moved and sat down next to her. “How are you feeling, Kagome?”
“As well as can be expected.” She sighed and rested her head against her raised knees. “I just feel like a failure as a parent.”
Inuyasha rested his hand on her shoulder. “I’ve seen how happy that little girl is, Kagome. You are a very good mother. It’s not your fault that Naraku took her. And believe me, he won’t get away this time.”
Kagome turned her head and smiled at him. “Thanks, Inuyasha. You’ve made me feel better.” Kagome closed her eyes briefly, just to let his confidence sink in. But her spirits were still low. To distract herself, she asked, “So what have you been doing these last few months that I was away?”
“The same thing I do whenever you go back to your world.”
“Oh, and what’s that?”
“Think about you.”
Kagome gasped. She hadn’t expected that. “Inuyasha-” Her words were cut off by his lips pressing against hers.
Inuyasha just wanted to comfort her. He thought the best way to do that was to kiss her, to give her something else to think about. He pulled back a little to look into her eyes. He saw her wide eyes, her lips parted slightly, and leaned back in to kiss her again.
The kiss was at first hesitant, but very quickly he put more pressure into the kiss, revealing the full extent of his feelings. Passion rode him and he pulled her tightly against him while he poured all the love and longing he could into the kiss. He ran his tongue over her lips, coaxing them to open. When they did, his tongue entered her mouth, exploring her sweetness. He groaned as he ran his tongue over hers.
Kagome gasped and pushed with all her strength against Inuyasha. She was a lot stronger than she used to be and the force she put into the push would have toppled any other person. But Inuyasha, being Inuyasha, was only pushed back enough to gain her release.
She jumped up and retreated a few steps. She turned back toward him and gave him a guarded look.
Inuyasha stood up slowly, a look of defeat crossing his features. “So you choose him...”
“Inuyasha, what are you talking about?”
Inuyasha scowled at her. “You chose Sesshoumaru ” He yelled at her. “You chose him, admit it ”
“I’ve done no such thing, you idiot. Why would I choose him, when he flat out told me there was nothing to what we did? It was just lust to him.” Kagome crossed her arms, her eyes flashing.
“He got you pregnant on purpose. He admitted that.”
“Yes, and there are two reasons I can think of off hand that would explain it. One, he wanted a child, and two, he wanted to hurt you.”
“He hates half breeds, Kagome. So that can’t be the reason he got you pregnant, and I can’t see him getting you pregnant to spite me.”
“Those were just two reasons, Inuyasha. There are others. And that’s not the point. The point is I wouldn’t choose him, because he doesn’t want me.”
“Then why did you just reject me?”
Kagome threw her hands in the air. “Because you only want what I remind you of I’m not going to be a substitute for Kikyou You don’t want me and neither does Sesshoumaru. I’d have to be a fool not to have given up on both of you a long time ago. I have Ayla and as soon as the Shikon no Tama is put back together, I’m going back to my time.” Kagome turned and stormed back to the camp.
Inuyasha stared after Kagome. ‘Well,’ he thought, ‘at least I got her mind off of her worries.’

*ducks behind couch to avoid flying objects* Ack! I'm sorry!!! -_-;; I know that I promised a lemon between Inuyasha and Kagome, but I couldn't picture Kagome just allowing that to happen when she's spent 6 years away from him. Can you HONESTLY say that if you loved a guy who loves another girl that you remind him of, that after 6 years you'd sleep with him??? *plugs ears to avoid hearing the audience yell, "YES!!!" just to get their lemon* I am going to have another lemon. I promise!!! But prease be patient. I will get to it, and it won't be that long of a wait. ^_~
*ahem* Anyway, I hope that this is a suitible chapter and that it met to your high standards. ^_^ Thanks again for such kind and encouraging words! It's really appreciated. Please R/R ~_~
