Chapter Five
What Happens at Ten

Kagome stared at the tv with her mouth agape. Did she really just hear what she thought she heard.

The same show was on every channel. It was all news that said exactly the same thing. And tonight the police wait for the Phantom Thief Dark to make his appearance. At ten o'clock he claims that he will steal the Shikon no Tama. We'll see if he, is once again, true to his word. "Aunt Yuri?" Kagome called. Her aunt, who she was quite fond of, came into the room. Her eyes lit up as she saw the television.

"Ah, Dark is showing up again tonight? He's amazing Kagome! And so adorable too!"

It was scary to just hear her aunt say the word "adorable", but that wasn't what was on Kagome's mind at the moment. "Aunt Yuri, who is this Dark?"

"Oh, you've never heard of him?" She seemed very surprised. "But he's very popular. It's amazing, you see. Dark made his appearance pretty recently and he hadn't for at least fourty years. Scary thing is, he looks exactly the same as he did then!"

Like a demon. Kagome thought hastily. Her eyes met the tv screen again, where the reporters were going crazy. Dark had made his appearance. He flew in under a pair of great black wings with an evil smirk on his face. Kagome leaned in, interested. He really did look good. He had purple hair and eyes and was dressed sleekly in all black. He was probably her age, maybe a little older.

Kagome stiffened. She could feel the demonic aura even from where she was. "Aunt Yuri? Where is that museum?" She asked, hunting down her shoes.

"About a mile east from here. It won't be hard to find. Are you going to see him?" She asked giddily.

"Ah..yeah!" She located her tennis shoes and snatched them on hurridly. "Can I use your bike?" She said now dashing over to the storage closet and slinging the door open. She gave her old bow a frown as she pulled it out. Without letting herself think twice, she grabbed her last three arrows. "Go ahead, Kagome-chan."

Kagome thanked her aunt with a yell and dashed out the door.

Okay, so this may have been a bad idea. The museum was brimming with power. And now that she was here, she didn't just sense one, but two demonic auras. They were both evenly matched, but the second one(not Dark's) seemed to be concealing itself in some way.

And there were people everywhere. Mostly there were cops and fangirls. Kagome nearly choked when she saw both Risa and Riku standing amongst the crowd. Riku didn't look happy, but Risa was glowing with excitement. Kagome assumed that poor Riku had been dragged into this.

Sighing, Kagome kept her distance from them. She had hidden the bike in some bushes and was still holding her bow with her arrows in an old quiver on her back. She knew that she was getting weird looks, but who really cared?

Kagome felt Dark's aura growing. She shivered and kept a close eye on where she thought he was. After about five minutes she spotted him high up on a ledge where no one could really see him. Kagome took pride in her good eyesight. After so many months in the darkness of that other era, it was amazing how much better her senses were getting.

Funny thing was that no one else saw him. Nor did they see him summon his wings and fly down into the small patch of trees below. Kagome took her chance.

She had two reasons for being here. One was she needed to see if this Shikon no Tama was real, and the tingling sensation that ran up her spine told her that it was. Her second reason was she was curious as to why two demons were loose in this time.

Kagome made her way past all of the police officers and into that patch of woods where the theif seemed to be having an argument with himself. "Shit! Why'd you have to change back in the middle of all of that?"

Silence.

"Well it was entirely your fault that he almost got us."

Kagome wondered at Dark's sanity when he waited again for the silent response.

"You can't keep being friends with him! Dammit this has to stop! And what the hell is this thing. It looks like a friggen piece of glass. What's she thinking?"

Kagome decided to make an appearance. She rushed out of the bushes and had her bow drawn and ready with an arrow notched.

"Phantom Thief Dark, hand over that shard of the Shikon no Tama!" She oredered.

Dark stared at her in shock.
