Noise

 

 

The noise.

 

 

It annoyed her. It was always there, never leaving her alone.

 

 

Use the pillows. Turn on the music. Drown it out!

 

 

Fists pushed against her ears, pressing, hurting. Thinking, never listening to the noise. La-la-la-ing until it was a constant sound, surrounding her.

 

 

Make it stop!

 

 

She screamed then, long and loud. A ragged sound that was a mix between a low, low moan and a high, keening cry that nearly blocked out the noise.

 

 

They taunted her. The voices. The noise. Both one of the same.

 

 

Back and forth, back and forth she rocked. Hands pressed flat against her ears, desperately trying to get rid of the voices. The tears came. One slow droplet at a time rolled down her cheek.

 

 

 

Taunting. Always mocking her. Laughing as she gave in.

 

 

She heard them. Giggling at her weakness. Chuckling as she wept for her lost innocence. Cackling as she gave in to insanity.
