Inuyasha woke to the sound of a crash somewhere in his house. He decided it was coming from his bed room. His slowly made his way down the hall, making sure to not alert the intruder that he was coming for him, and as if not to wake Kagome who he had left on the couch.

He opened his bedroom door and immediately ducked as two shots rang right above his head. One nearly taking his ear off.

"Shit!" He said, ducking behind the doorway and out of sight of the gunman or men.

"Now, come on Inuyasha. That is no way to treat me. How about a nice hi?"

"Kikyo get out of here!"

"Now, now. Keep your temper in check. Wouldn't want you to hurt the girl. That's my job."

What?! I won't allow her to hurt Kagome.

"Kikyo I swear, you lay a single finger on her and I'll kill you."

"Then I have to kill you first."

I'd love to see you try.

Inuyasha saw Kagome walk into the hall way. He made a motion with his hands to stop as he leaned back agaisned the wall, feeling a small trickle of blood coming from the ear that had been hit.

She had a look of complete and total horror on her face.

"Stay down! Get your brother and the runt out of here. Go to Miroku's and tell Sango to come and help!" He whispered. Hoping she herd. He wasn't disappointed when she went through the door to pick up the sleeping children. Taking one last look at Inuyasha before running out the door.

Sango opened the front door cautiously. Looking in she found a hanyou on his knees. His hands folded in his lap with his eyes hidden with white silvery bangs. Sango looked around the house. Numerous bullet holes and blood splatter patters marked the walls.

"Inuyasha? What happened here? Are you ok?"

She didn't get a response. Only a low growling sound.

"Inuyasha? Are you ok? Are you hurt?" Sango asked again. A creaking of the door made her turn around to see Kagome peaking in. "Kagome stay back. I think something is wrong with him."

Kagome didn't move. She just stood there, staring at Inuyasha.

He seems different now… something is not right.

The growling continued until Inuyasha slowly stood up. Even though his eyes were still hidden Kagome and Sango noticed the longer claws… larger fangs. It was all adding up to something Sango was scared would happen.

She suddenly realized that Kagome was now behind her.

"Kagome run."

"What?"

"Run."

"Sango… but why?"

"Run, damn it!"

Before Kagome could get three feet Inuyasha had used his demonic speed to block the only way out.

"Inuyasha what are you doing?" Kagome pleaded with him. Sango didn't move.

"Stupid wenches coming into my home to kill me. I must make sure that this does not happen again. I must make sure that they do not come after me anymore."

Inuyasha looked up, showing off his red eyes. Kagome gasped and Sango's suspicions were confirmed.

"Inuyasha what has happened to you."

"Kikyo…" Sango whispered to herself. Inuyasha was immediately in her face.

"How dare you speak that name."

"Inuyasha look what you have become… what has happened to you?" Kagome whispered.

"His demon side has become dominant. He doesn't know who we are…"

Kagome slowly walked over to the pumped up Inuyasha. "Inuyasha, don't you remember me? Don't you remember how you felt around me? Try to remember… please try to remember."

She touched his cheek and Inuyasha only growled at her. Huffing and puffing like he had just been in a four day long battle. A clawed hand ripped her hand off him with enough force to throw her back a little.

"Inuyasha what are you doing?" Kagome sobbed. Sango took this moment to run up behind him, delivering a blow to the head. Knocking out Inuyasha, who was promptly tied up.

"Hay, someone mind telling me just what the fuck am I do tied up to my chair!?" A growling, yet normal, Inuyasha yelled at Sango and a sleeping Kagome. Sango only shushed him.

"After all the trouble you caused you would figure you would be a little more quiet."

"What the hell are you talking about… and what the hell happened to my house?" He took a quick whiff and soon wished he didn't as he began to feel dizzy. "What was Kikyo doing here… I thought she was dead."

"That's what I want to know. Kagome runs into my house and says that someone is shooting at you and you had been hit." Sango said. Searching through the kitchen cupboards for the first aid kit. Finding one she sits next to him and tends to the old ear wound and two fresh ones. One in the arm and the other in his lower chest.

"I remember that much. But not all this."

"I found you as a full demon. Red eyes and all."

Inuyasha noticed three claw marks on Kagome's hand.

"I didn't…" He took a deep breath. "Did I?"

"No. You didn't kill her or mane her in any way. Just a little bone bruise."

Inuyasha took another deep breath. Getting dizzy from the smell of the blood.

"Untie me."

"Not yet. Stop moving."

"I said, untie me. Now damn it!"

Sango thought over her options before untying him. He stepped over to Kagome. Looking at her hand.

"I did this… I hurt Kagome…" He said solemnly before disappearing into the kitchen. Not more then three minutes later he shot out of there, out the front door and into the city.

Leaving Sango to stare in wonder…

Kagome,

I can't be around you anymore. I'll protect you, still, but I can't allow myself to do that anymore. This time it was merely a mark, next time… I don't want to think about it. Maybe when all this is over it can go back to the way things were… maybe. But I will still be here when you need me, and you know that. Go and claim your brother and Shippo from Miroku. I will have a cleaning crew - no questions asked - sent to the apartment later today to clean up that mess. I want you to stay there. Every two weeks a fresh batch of groceries will arrive at the door. The bills will be paid as well as the rent. Wait for me there… I'll call every Friday. And maybe once of twice a month I'll watch you from your window. Maybe appear from the shadows. I'm sorry. Really, I am. But with Kikyo, and no doubt now, Naraku coming after me I can't risk it… I love you too much to risk it. I really am sorry…

Kagome looked at the note a little while longer. "You found this?"

Sango nodded. "Yah. It's in his handwriting."

"I still don't believe it. He wouldn't leave me here."

"Kagome, look, we've been friends for god knows how long. But I've known him just as long. I think it's time you know his past a little… maybe that will help explain things a little better for you."

Sango took a deep breath.

"A long time ago he took it upon himself to protect another women. Kikyo. Everything was fine until one day he went to her place to check on her. Kikyo and him had fallen in love and he took great pride in that. It's uncommon for things like a hanyou and human to fall in love. Well, anyway. He found her dead in her house. The police and CS units declared it a suicide. Yet… he knew it was different. He told himself he would never fall in love with a human, demon, whatever, ever again. But then he met you and things changed… now he doesn't want what happened to Kikyo to happen to you. He's being extra cautions."

Sango let the information sink in before continuing.

"Look… before Kikyo, Inuyasha had been a carefree dog hanyou. He used to love going out on a Friday night with me and Miroku. Go to a movie or something. He would spend countless hours at the beach enjoying the sun, or at the park in the trees. But then when it happened all that changed. He never went to any of those places anymore. And then… you came along. And I noticed that he was happier again. Sometimes I would see him in the park, just in the trees enjoying himself a little more. When I saw him he would ask about you all the time. `How is Kagome?' or `Do you think she needs anything?'. He's had many people to protect. And only two people ever made him happy. You are one of them."

Kagome sat back in the chair for a moment.

"You're serious aren't you…"

Just as if it was meant to be… the phone rang.

"Hello?"

"I really am sorry."

"Inuyasha?! Come home! I miss you already…"

"I can't do that… not until this all ends."

"I can deal with the danger. Just please come home."

"I'm sorry."

"Don't be sorry! Come home!"

"Kagome… I will be home soon. Trust me. Just not right now. What if I had hurt you? I mean really hurt you? What if I had killed you?"

"But you didn't! That's what matters! You could have but you didn't! Something inside you stopped you. If I can see that… why can't you?"

"I'm sorry Kagome. I love you."

Dead line. "Inuyasha…" Kagome whispered into the receiver, knowing no answer would be returned.

Naraku sat at his home. Looking disgustedly down at a kneeling Kikyo.

"Forgive me. I have failed in my duties."

How can you see into my eyes

"Forgiveness is for the weak." He scoffed. Taking the gun from her hands as she held it out to him. Counting the bullets left. Only two.

Without a soul

My spirit sleeping somewhere cold

Until you find it there and lead it back

Home

"You fired at him and missed."

"I hit him twice."

"Yet he is not dead." Naraku scoffed. Slipping the clip back into the weapon before pointing it at Kikyo who had a sudden wide eyed look in her eyes.

"And yet… you are."

A loud crack echoed through Inuyasha's ears as he watched Kikyo fall to the ground. The Chef knife glittered at his side as he lifted it and slowly put it around Naraku's neck.

"If forgiveness is for the weak… consider me the strongest man alive."

"So… the dirty half breed is here to avenge Kikyo. I am impressed."

Now that I know what I'm without

"What?" Naraku showed his surprised.

`I never figured that after I killed Kikyo he would ever want to avenge anyone. I left him a broken piece of shit… what changed?'

"I know that you killed Kikyo. Not just this time. I know you sent her after me. What I want to know is why… I was no threat to you."

All of this time

I can't believe I could see

Kept in the dark - but you were right in front of me

I've been sleeping a thousand years it seems

"Not you. The girl." Naraku calmly stated. "But you would be the bonus. Have Kikyo attack you, get you to go full demon, have your rage be taken out on wench. When you changed back you would be normal and racked with guilt, thus killing yourself."

"You said Kikyo was supposed to kill me."

"I did, didn't I… I wonder if you can figure that one out."
Inuyasha pressed down on the blade a little more.

"I do not have time for these childish games. Either tell me or it will remain a mystery for all eternity."

Naraku only scoffed.

"A mere butterfly effect."

"I get it. You kill me and Kagome is wide open for you to attack."

"Smarter than you look half breed."

"Smarter than you saying as how I don't have a blade to my throat."

"Ah… you kill me and my underlings will get you."

"Who? That women, Kagura? She can't kill me."

"She can surly try though… failing to her is as it is to me. Pathetic."

"I'll take pleasure in killing her if she even tries to breath on Kagome."

"You seem sure that you will leave her alive."

"I know I will."

Inuyasha took a deep breath to steady his nerves. "Forgiveness is for the week." He whispered. Putting yet more pressure on the blade.

Naraku began to panic a little. "Are you really going to kill me?"

A single word came to his ears. "Yes."

`And in other news. A murder suicide has taken place at the Great Naraku mansion just west of Tokyo. Police have yet to release the names of those involved…' Kagome drowned out the sound of the TV as the phone, the devils voice as she now called it, rang.

"Hello."

"It's done."

"Inuyasha… what's done?"

"It's over. Naraku and Kikyo are dead."

"I'm confused Inuyasha… does this mean it's all over? You can come home?"

"Not yet. I have a feeling. I think it's not quite over… someone else is coming for me. I know it… Soon my love… soon."

"I'll wait forever… you know that."

"Forever… you won't have to wait that long. Soon… soon. Bye."

The click signaled her was gone, just as the TV went back into her hearing range.

`The only clues that police found was the knife and gun used in the crime and something written in the blood of one of the victims. The words… `Silent Protector'. Who this is, is yet to be seen.'

Also, sorry I haven't updated in a while. Friday my parents decided to spring a surprise camping trip on me.
