A lone figure stood in the moonlit clearing. The cool night breeze blew her black hair away from her pale face, her eyes cold and empty, searching for someone. She unconsciously gripped the handle of her bow in apprehension of the arrival of the ogress.
There was a rustle of leaves and she immediately turned around, an arrow knocked and aimed to fire on a second’s notice. When she saw who it was, she lowered her arrow slightly, for she didn’t entirely trust the person.
The person chuckled, a dry, gravely sound, and shook her head. “You always were on edge child, but you should have known it was me,” she said, eyes gleaming.
Kikyo just sighed and replied,”Urasue, you should know I don’t care who it is, anyone could be an enemy, so I’m not on edge; just prepared.”
Urasue cracked a grin, showing of slightly pointed teeth. “Well, are you prepared to do the ritual, or should I just leave?” she said , her voice dripping with sarcasm.
“Would I have called you out if I had not wanted to do the ritual?” asked Kikyo with an equal amount of sarcasm.
“Then let us make haste for the moon is almost in position and it will not be there forever.” Urasue then rummaged around in her bag and pulled out two vials- one empty, one full - a silver dagger, a bundle of herbs, and a fang. She arranged these items in a pentagonal pattern on the ground, then took a stick and connected the lines in the dirt, creating a star.
She then picked up the dagger and the empty vial and handed them to Kikyo. Kikyo then in turn, took the dagger and pierced her wrist. She then positioned the vial so that it caught the blood that spilled out of the wound. When the vial was full, she corked it and handed it back to Urasue.
She replaced the items back to their places and made a strange hand sign, starting to chant. The items started to glow along with Kikyo. As Urasue’s chanting became steadily louder, the glow became brighter. After about five minutes, Urasue stooped chanting and the glow died down.
In the center of the crudely drawn star was a small glowing sphere with a bluish tint. Kikyo kneeled down and the sphere slowly floated into her chest and disappeared. Kikyo took a sharp intake of breath and fell to the ground with a soft thud.
Urasue sneered and took off into the night. ‘Life has once again been given to the dead. A soul has been tainted to the point of no return. She will live and have children, but she will live a life of hatred and misery. I have committed a crime, but she will live with the consequences,’ thought Urasue as she flew away.
~*~*~*~
Kikyo awoke in a meadow with sunlight streaming down onto her face. She blinked a couple of times before sitting up. She checked herself for injuries before rising to her feet, but fell back down. She paused, then tried again. She wobbled a bit but stood firm. She wondered why she was in a meadow when she remembered the previous night’s activities. She slowly brought her hand to her neck and smiled. There on her neck was her pulse, beating in a steady rhythm under her fingers.
‘I’m alive!’ she thought jubilantly. She smiled a true smile for the first time in fifty six years. She quickly picked up her bow and hurried in the direction of her home, eager to see Inuyasha and how he would react.
‘Now nothing will stand between him and I for I am alive. That little wench can’t compare to me now.’ she thought as she headed into the forest.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
He gazed upon himself in the mirror, admiring his new appearance with a smirk. Instead of his normal crimson eyes, they were now an electric blue, and his waist length black hair was now a platinum blonde, looking almost silver. On his cheeks were identical blue stripes, and on his forehead wad a pale yellow star. He donned a cerulean kimono with pale yellow sakura blossoms on the sleeves and around the collar. Her ran his fingers through his platinum strands, a satisfied smirk on his handsome features. ‘No one will recognize me now that I have this new body. The miko will help me without even knowing, and by the time she figures it out; it’ll be too late.’ he thought as he stepped away from his reflection.
Just then a servant came into his room. “Lord Tsutake a letter of invitation was delivered just moments ago. Will you want it or shall I dispose of it?” said the servant, shaking out of nervousness. She knew that her lord was merciless and powerful. She had heard tales of his deeds, his righteous but cruel deeds that often ended in bloodshed.
Naraku looked at the girl and sneered, he loved how he instilled fear in his subjects without having to so much as look at them. “I will take it now. Have it sent to me at once.”
“Yes milord.” The servant bowed deeply then scurried out of the room.
Moments later, the same servant reentered the room, handed him the letter, and left again. Naraku looked at the seal on the letter and recognized it as the seal of the Western Lands. He opened it up and started to read:
Dear Lord Tsutake,
As you probably know, I, Lord Sesshomaru of the Western Lands am hosting the Summer’s Eve Festival. It would please me to have you attend such a wondrous event. You may bring your mate if you wish, but everything else will be taken care of by me. If you wish to attend, please send this letter back. The festival will begin in three rises of the moon. It will last exactly one lunar cycle.
Your host,
Lord Sesshomaru Taiyoukai
of the Western Lands
Naraku chuckled and carefully folded the letter back into its original form. Since his new role as lord of the Northern Lands, Naraku had been receiving many invitations such as this one, but declined the offers. He needed not to entertain himself with such frivolous events when he had more pressing things to attend to. But this one intrigued him.
‘So Sesshomaru wants me to attend this Summer’s Eve Festival, does he? Well I’d hate to disappoint an old enemy by not making an appearance.’ he mused. He called for a servant and gave them orders to send the letter back from where it came from.
He could afford to take a month off to get revenge on one of the wretches who tried to kill him. He always had time for revenge.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
She sat in her room, face set in a fierce scowl, tail swishing in anger, green eyes flashing red. She suddenly shredded a nearby pillow in frustration, the feathers floating down around her like snow. She let out an angry growl and went to lay on her bed. Ever since the ‘bathing incident’ with Seshomaru yesterday, Amari had been angry.Normally, any demon, no matter the race, would be drooling over her, but Sesshomaru had been the only one to deny her. She knew that they were betrothed, but she didn’t understand why he refused he like he did.
‘Is there something wrong with me? All I’ve done since I met him was try to win his heart, but he seems to have locked it away and incased it in ice. Its like he doesn’t have any emotions at all.’ thought Amari as she clawed at another innocent pillow.
She paused when she heard a knock at the door. Sensing it was her father, she told him to come in. He entered and sat down on her bed beside her, a frown on his face. He looked around the room at the feathers and his frown deepened.
“Amari, what have I told you about misplacing your anger?” her father asked her in a stern voice.
Amari looked away and mumbled, “They’re only pillows father, it’s not like they were alive,” said Amari, not really wanting to talk with her father right now.
Lord Kaname sighed,”You are a guest in this house so therefore you will not destroy property that is not yours. Your mother and I raised you better than that and I expect only the best from you.”
“Father is there something that you need of me?”
“Yes as a matter of fact, there is. I want to talk about you and Sesshomaru and how we are going to get him to fulfill his promise.”
“Father, Sesshomaru doesn’t want me, I don’t even think he wants anybody. I mean, he never says anything and when he does say something, its only like two or three words! Sometimes he doesn’t even speak real words; he just makes little grunts and whatnot!”
“You say that he doesn’t want you, but do you know why?”
Amari paused,”Well, he does make it particularly clear what he doesn’t like about me,” said Amari taking on a thoughtful look.
“Like?”
“He says that I’m too plain looking; my eyes are too big, my lips are too thin, my cheeks have too many freckles, that I am in no way, shape, or form physically or mentally desirable-“
”So you know why, now how can you fix it so that he’ll think otherwise.”
Amari just stared at her father with a blank look on her face, obviously she didn’t know the answer.
Lord Kaname just sighed. He couldn’t help but think that Sesshomaru was right in the aspect that his daughter was indeed not mentally desirable, she had the brain power of an insect, and the attention span of a squirrel.
“You’re in luck daughter because I do. In one hour’s time, an escort will be here and they will take you to the person who can fix you problems.”
“Father, why are you so interested in if I end up with Sesshomaru?” asked Amari, genuinely curious.
Lord Kaname threw the words over his shoulder as he left the room,”For my own reasons, daughter, for my own reasons.”
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
He sat there at his desk, fists clenched so hard that his claws dug into his palms and drew blood. His golden eyes were bleeding red and a savage growl ripped through his throat, tearing through the room.He was angered, no, enraged at what he had just heard. ‘That arrogant bastard! How dare he put Kagome through that?! He dare hurt a pure creature such as Kagome so that he could mate a walking pot!’ thought Sesshomaru as the control he had over his blood beast started to deteriorate.
Kagome watched in horror as Sesshomaru lost control. His snout elongated along with his fangs. His once elegant hand was now becoming a paw with deadly claws. His haori slowly started to disappear into masses of white fur.
‘Oh no! Sesshomrau’s gonna transform and I have no way to stop him! Oh Kami what did I do to deserve this?’ thought Kagome as she frantically tried to think of an idea to stop him. When she could think of no other ideas, the one she least wanted to do hit her.
‘Shit, if his transformations are anything like Inuyasha’s, then there’s only one thing I can do.’ Kagome ran towards Sesshomaru and embraced him, careful of his armor. She tightened her hold when she felt him jerk.
“Please Sesshomaru,”she begged,”please stop this.”
He didn’t seem to hear her so she tried again.”Sesshomaru please! If you transform then you’ll put everyone in danger. Think of Rin, what if she gets hurt?” she was sobbing and yelling at the same.”Think of Rin Sesshomaru,”she said in a voice barely above a whisper,” think of me.”
Sesshomaru froze. Inside he was scrambling to regain control over his blood beast. ‘Rin. Kagome.’ He seized control finally, and began to return to normal. When he had complete control once more he looked down to see Kagome gripping him for dear life and sobbing.
Not knowing what to do, he subconsciously wrapped his arm around her waist and lay his chin on top of the crown of her head. With his hand, he started to rub soothing circles on the small of her back in an attempt to stop her quaking.
After a couple of minutes of this, Kagome’s sobs were reduced down to hiccups and she had stopped shaking. She snuggled deeper into the fluffy object that was in her face. ‘This feels so good, I wish I could lie here forever.’ thought Kagome as she gave a contented sigh.
She slowly raised her head to look at what she thought to be so comfortable, and her whole body went rigid. She was latched onto Sesshomaru’ waist and was burrowing her face into his tail. She ‘eeped’ and let go, blushing furiously.
Sesshomaru looked at her in slight confusion, minutely disappointed at the lack of warmth on his chest and waist. He looked at her and watched as she quickly headed for the door. He did not know why she was in such a hurry to leave but he was not done with her yet.
“Where do you think you are going, miko?” said Sesshomaru, placing his stoic mask back in place.
Kagome heard him but was to embarrassed to make eye contact let alone look at him, so she hung her head and mumbled,”I was going to go back to my room.” Kagome’s cheeks just kept getting redder by the second.
“Why, did this Sesshomaru give you permission to leave?” he asked while raising a perfectly sculpted eyebrow at her.
“No.”
“While in my home, you will abide by my rules. You do not leave unless this Sesshomaru tells you to, is that understood?” Sesshomaru knew he was pushing it but he did not want her to leave, though he couldn’t for the world figure out why.
‘You know why.’ said his self conscience
‘You again? Do you insist on annoying me or are these little meetings mere coincidence?’
‘Oh no, I just like to annoy the hell out of you, but this time that isn’t why I’m here.’
‘Then why are you here?’
‘You couldn’t figure out why you didn’t want Kagome to leave and I have the answer.’
‘Enlighten me.’
‘It simple; you like her.’
‘That is not true; I’ll admit it, she is beautiful, but I do NOT, in any way like her.’
‘Oh did I say you like her, I’m sorry.’
‘As you should be, now leave.’
‘I’m not done yet, what I meant to say was you are starting to fall in love with her.’
‘WHAT???!!! That is the biggest load of bullshit I’ve ever heard. This Sesshomaru has not, does not, and will not fall in love with a human and a miko at that.’
‘Temper, temper. I am only saying what you truly feel. If this was a load of bullshit, then tell me, why were you upset when she told you how Inuyasha abandoned her?’
‘...’
‘And why did you almost yell at her when she told you that she was going to Kaname’s personal chambers tonight?’
‘This Sesshomaru does not want one of my guests harmed while they stay in my palace.’
‘Uh-huh, then answer this; when you and Inuyasha were in your father’s tomb, why were so angry at Inuyasha?”
‘That is simple, he had dared to interfere by trying to gain the Tessaiga when he knew that I wanted it.’
‘That is not the reason and you know it.’
‘Then what is the reason since you say I’m wrong.’
‘It’s the same reason you were mad at him all those other times, you were mad at the fact that Kagome stuck by his side. You were mad that such a beautiful girl was traveling with your hanyou brother. You were jealous that he had all those friends when you had none. But more importantly, you were mad that he had something that you wanted; Kagome.’
‘This Seshomaru cares nothing for companionship and does not covet it like Inuyasha does. Nor does this Sesshomaru experience jealousy, such emotions are beneath me.’
‘Your beast has wanted her from the very beginning, but you are the one making yourself unhappy.’ With that his self conscience faded back into his mind leaving Sesshomaru in an internal battle.
He remembered that Kagome was still there but when he looked up, she was nowhere to be seen.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
She flopped down onto her bed and screamed into a pillow. It seemed that no matter where she went or who she met, someone was always trying to tell her what she could and couldn’t do.‘He thinks that just because he is a lord and extremely powerful( and handsome) that he can just bend everybody to his will and expect them to be okay with it!’ thought Kagome as she sighed frustrated to no end.
She took off the simple pink kimono a servant had set out for her that morning and slipped into a white sleeping yukata. She climbed under the purples covers and let sleep overtake her.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
He walked the halls towards his mother’s room, where he spent his time when he was troubled or angry. He came to the double doors carved and painted to depict a koi pond scene and slowly pushed them open. The moment he stepped into the room he was bombarded with a sweet, calming scent. He looked towards the bed and saw a lump that was in the middle. He recognized this scent immediately as Kagome’s.
He wondered what she was doing in here when he remembered that he had given this room to her to use as hers while she was here. He remembered his exact thoughts when she had stepped out of the carriage,’She shall have my mother’s room for it is the only one besides my and my father’s that is up to standard for someone like her.’
He walked over to the side of the bed and sat down. He pulled the covers away from her face so that she could breath easier. Sesshomaru looked at her face, so peaceful and shut off form the hatred and evil of the world.
‘What have you done to me miko?’ he asked himself as he brushed a few stray strands of her raven hair from her face. In doing so he accidentally brushed his knuckles against the soft skin of her cheek. He found himself wanting to caress the rest of her, but quickly destroyed the urge, remembering who he was thinking about.
He knew he couldn’t deny a definite physical attraction to her on a minimal level, but he refused to think that he could ever come to like as more than something to look at. How could he like someone that was childish, stubborn, disrespectful, and oblivious. But at the same time she was brave, intelligent, beautiful, kind, and innocent, qualities that were rarely found in males, let alone females of his era.
If she were a demon, then there would be no hesitation in choice to court her, but she was just a human and he couldn’t afford to have his reputation ruined like his father’s because he chose a mortal as his mate.
He just couldn’t let his hatred for humans go, for him it was impossible. His experience with humans had been one that was unforgivable.
~*~”A demon it be! Kill it, the clothes it’s wearin’ will fetch a pretty price at the market!”
Sesshomaru was fifty years old and visiting a nearby village with his mother and father to buy some trinkets. While his mother was in the heart of the village at the market, he had remained on the outskirts, too shy to go in.~*~
He frowned. Humans were despicable creatures indeed.
~*~ They had spotted him and immediately gone to get their weapons shouting curses about him and his kind. A few moments later they came back and started to chase him into the surrounding forest.
Being so young, though he was far stronger than any of the humans chasing him, his powers were still young and undeveloped. So he just ran blindly through the forest, hoping not to get caught.~*~
His claws clenched the covers on the bed and a ripping sound could be heard as they slowly tore apart.
~*~He had tripped over a protruding tree root and lost his balance. He lay there cowering on the forest floor, awaiting a death that would surely come. He tried to get up when he heard the voices, but all his efforts got him was a shooting pain in his leg.
He looked down and saw that it was twisted at and odd angle and bled profusely. He heard the voices coming closer until he smelt the vile scent that belonged to the humans chasing him.
“There he is behind that tree! Ready your weapons men he might put up a fight.” They approached him with their weapons raised, ready to bring them down and deliver his death.
Even at a young age, Sesshomaru was never one to give in easily or without a fight. “G-g-get away! You don’t know who y-y-you’re messing w-with!” he said his voice wavering with every word he spoke.
“Eh! This whelp doesn’t know a thing kill’em now so that we have time to wash his clothes and sell them before dark!”
There was a hiss of air and a sickening thud as the pitch fork pierced through Sesshomaru’s chest. It was pulled away and blood spurted from it like a fountain.
Sesshomaru gathered his remaining breath and yelled, “FAAAAAAAAAATHEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRR!” before falling into the clutches of death.~*~
Since that day, he had harbored a hatred towards humans for they were responsible for his death.
~*~ Meiyo raced toward the direction from which he had heard Sesshomaru’s call. The sound of urgency in his voice worried him. As Sesshomaru’s father, Meiyo had a unbreakable bond with his son that could only be broken by death. He felt the bond slowly dissipating and was scared.
He smelled the atrocious scent that belonged to most humans and headed toward it. He came upon a group of humans carrying his son’s lifeless body between them. His eyes flashed red as he sliced through them, satisfied when he heard their bodies hit the ground.
He picked up his son and laid him down on the ground, careful not to disturb his wounds. He unsheathed Tenseiga and swiped it across his body, banishing the little imps that had appeared around him.
Sesshomaru felt his soul being ripped from the black plain that he had currently occupied. He gasped as air filled his lungs once again. He looked up to see his father looking at him, worry plain on his face.
“Come Sesshomaru.”
Sesshomaru diligently stumbled to his feet and followed his father back to the village, trying to ignore th white hot pain that shot through his leg every time he took a step. A shudder ran though his spine as he passed the corpses of those who had killed him.~*~
He rose form the bed and abruptly left the room, not once looking back. No, he would not let a human ruin his life, physical attraction or not. No one controlled. No one.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
She walked down a wild path that barely visible through all the weeds and underbrush that had grown over it in the past years. She soon came upon a dilapidated hut in the middle of a clearing. In front of the hut stood what Amari assumed to be an ogress, but she wasn’t sure. She stopped a few paces from the old woman and asked,”Are you the one called Urasue?”
The woman cackled, sending a chill through Amari’s body. She didn’t like this woman. The almost childish glee that shone on her wrinkled face, and the malice that rolled off her in waves scared Amari.
“Yes child, I am Urasue, and I assume you are the Lord of The Eastern Land’s daughter Amari?”
“Hai.” said Amari hesitantly.
Urasue beckoned her into the hut,”Come, come child we have much to accomplish tonight,”said Urasue as she disappeared behind the flap. Amari warily followed, dread pooling in the pit of her stomach.
The inside of the hut was just as bad as the outside. The roof had holes in it and the walls were missing pieces. There was a dirt floor and it was littered with debris from only Kami knew what.
In the center was a fire ring with a pot boiling above it, the smell that wafted from it was disgusting and made Amari wrinkle her nose. Other than that, there was a pallet in one corners and assortment of herbs and other such things another corner.
The ogress hobbled to the pot and spooned some of the vile smelling liquid into a cup and shoved it at her,”Drink this.”
Not wanting to argue, Amari swallowed the stuff, almost choking on it in the process. Once she composed herself, Urasue shoved a vial in her face,”Give this to your father and tell him two drops should do it. Now remember, the potion I gave you will make you irresistible to anyone, but will not work if that person is already in love with someone else. Now leave.”
With that, Urasue shoved Amari out of the hut and into the chill night air. Shrugging, Amari went back the way she had come, mumbling about bitter old women and their problems with manners.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
She walked down the hall to Lord Kaname’s room. She passed many servants that greeted her as though they were the best of friends, though still in a respectful manner. When she reached his room she went to knock but before she could even touch the door he told her to come in.Kagome slowly walked in the dimly lit room, her light blue kimono cast with dark shadows. She stood in the center of the room awaiting orders from her lord. She was unusually nervous about meeting him and immediately started to blush at what had happened last time.
“Ah, Kagome-sama you have decided to grace me with your presence this evening, I was hoping you would.” said Lord Kaname as he stepped out of the shadows. “Please sit with me and let us discuss your duties,” he said motioning to some pillows beside him.
Kagome sat down and looked away from Kaname, who was staring at her the same way Hitomi had when they had first met. She blushed even more at the attention he was giving her, feeling like a schoolgirl again.
Lord Kaname pulled held up two glasses of sake and handed one to Kagome, a mischievous grin in place. She accepted meeting his gaze. They sat there, staring into each other’s eyes, looking for something to hint at what the other was thinking.
Kagome was the first to break away as she said her thanks and took a sip of her sake, noting on the somewhat bitter taste it had. Minutes later, Kagome wavered a bit and fell unconscious on the floor.
Kaname looked at her and smiled. ‘The potion has taken affect, apparently the ogress wasn’t lying when she said the effects were almost instantaneous.’ He kissed Kagome’s cheek, noticing it was softer than the finest silks.
‘She will be quite useful to me and if she preforms to my liking, she might become my mate, if not she can always remain at my palace as a concubine.’ he thought as he picked her up and lay her on his bed, taking off her kimono and replacing it with a yukata he had brought to him earlier.
Once he was done, he climbed in the bed under the covers beside her, embracing her with his warmth. He reveled in how the shape of her body seemed to meld with his, creating a snug and perfect fit.
He pulled her back to his chest and lay his chin on her shoulder, letting the clutches of sleep claim him, looking forward to the dreams of Kagome that he was sure would come. ‘Kagome, you will be mine, no matter what.’

Well there you have it another chapter. I kinda gave my own explanation for Sesshomaru hating humans cuz I thought that his real one was kinda, well it just didn’t fit with my plot so I altered it. I also explained the beginning of Kikyo’s plot. The reason I brought Urasue back was because she seemed right to give Kikyo life again since she had already done it before. I gave Sesshomaru’s father a new name which means honor because I liked it better than toga and Great dog General isn’t a name. Remember R&R!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! please reviews give me ideas as to what I need to improve on or fix.
Ja ne! ^-^
