Chapter Thirteen
They Live!

******************************************************* *******************************

He tapped his fingers impatiently as he waited for Ruri and Hari to come back from the recruiting mission he sent them on yesterday. His antennae twitched in annoyance as minor vibrations in the air disturbed them. While he waited, he thought of the lengths he had gone to, to get them back.

Ruri hadn’t been that difficult to revive but Hari was a completely different story. The bitch had gone and gotten herself sucked into some kind of void and it took a lot of black magic and threats to get her out. The witch that did it had to be difficult and make him go into the black hole and find her himself.

It had taken hours but he finally found her floating in the void, and alive at that. He had surely thought that being trapped inside a black hole would kill you, but apparently the hole led to a void where you were neither alive nor dead. It was kind of like a between world that kept you in suspended animation forever.

Once he had gotten her and himself out, he left and went back to his palace to begin forming his army. Just as he was about to fly off and personally bring them back himself, Ruri and Hari stepped into his study. They bowed and sat down on the cushions in front of his desk.

He sighed in agitation and said,”What took you so long? If I were to have gone out there myself, I would have been back hours ago.”
Ruri refrained from rolling her eyes at his criticism. “There were more recruits than we anticipated and they all had to be dealt with and assigning ranks isn’t easy Menomaru-sama,” she said, her voice dripping with exasperation.

Hari nodded and said,”Hai, there were a couple of demons that refused to accept the ranks they were given and chose to rebel.”

Menomaru rolled his eyes and snorted. “I would think my top vassals would be able to handle a few rouge troops. Maybe I should rethink your positions if you aren’t able to handle such a menial task,” he said, his eyes and facial features proving the threat was not empty.

Ruri’s eyes flashed with anger ‘That selfish ungrateful bastard! If he could have done things so much faster and better then why did he go to such extremes to get us back. I swear if we weren’t mated then I’d just love to kill him a couple times for good measure.’ thought Hari as she gave an indignant sigh.

It was true they had been engaged months after they were conceived and starting courting as soon as they came of age. They came to love each other and mated after only three months of courting. They were now two hundred years into their relationship and it was going well, except for the arguments they had occasionally.

Working for your mate was a difficult task in itself, and it only got harder when he was your superior and lord. He had a wonderful personality but when he was working, he could be the biggest asshole in all of China.

“No my lord that will not be necessary. We assure you success on our next mission Menomaru-sama, we will not fail you again,” said Hari as she bowed and tugged on the sleeve of Ruri’s fighting kimono, trying to leave as quickly as possible.

Menomaru saw this and waved his hand. “Hari you are dismissed,” he said as she bowed once more and scuttled out of the office, leaving Ruri and Menomaru alone. He turned to her and looked at her with gleaming eyes. She returned his stare with her own gaze except hers held annoyance and anger instead of lust and want.

Ruri rolled her eyes,”Do you require something of me, Menomaru-sama?” she spat crossing her arms over her chest in defiance. Menomaru smirked at her display of defiance, this is what made her so irresistible to him. Her spitfire personality alongside her beauty and battle skills made her very desirable in his eyes.

“As a matter of fact I do Ruri. It seems that you have disappointed me and on your first day back too. You know that I don’t like being disappointed so you are in need some discipline to make sure that it doesn’t happen again,” he purred as he slipped behind her, placing his hands on her shoulders.

Ruri shivered as her slipped his fingers beneath her collar and stroked her shoulders, breathing on her neck. He brushed his claws along the valley between her breasts as he whispered in her ear,”I have the perfect punishment in mind, too.”

He turned her around and slowly began to untie the ties of her kimono at an agonizingly slow pace that drove Ruri mad with desire. He let the armor that she wore fall to the ground with a soft thud as he started on the actual kimono itself.

The cool silk hissed against her burning skin as it slipped off her body to form a small pile at her feet. He began to kiss and nip at the nape of her neck and her jaw line, earning little moans and mewls from his mate. He licked her mating mark and she almost fell over with pleasure.

Her mind became a red haze as her inner demon’s urges became more powerful, pushing against the restraints in her mind. She tipped her head to the side to provide him with better access as she fisted one hand in his silky mint green hair.

He moved his mouth from her neck to her lips, claiming them in a heated and passionate kiss that left her breathless when he pulled away. His hands moved from her cheeks, tracing lazy circles and patterns as they moved down her body. They stopped at her breasts, giving her nipples a rough tweak before making circles around her bellybutton.

She sighed in relief as he cupped her heat, but let out a frustrated growl when he traced her inner thighs instead of giving her the release she so rightfully deserved. She moaned her disappointment and grabbed his hands trying to guide him back up.

He freed his wrists from her grasp and whispered,”Oh no my dear. I said this was a punishment. I will not let you of so easily,” he finished with a lustful growl. After a few minutes, he finally made his way back up to her heat, earning a moan from his mate.

He slowly parted her folds and slipped a single finger inside her hot, tight passage. He lingered there for a moment before slowly bring it out again and placing it in his mouth. He made sure that all of her sweet nectar was cleaned off the appendage and then slipped it back inside.

The heat building in her abdomen was threatening to burn her from the inside out if she did not find release and soon. She fisted her hands in his hair and tugged, urging him to continue. He smiled and complied, setting a faster, much more fierce pace that had her moaning his name in no time at all.

“Onegai, faster. Faster, please, go, ahhhhhhhhhh!” screamed Ruri as her climax hit her full force, shaking her entire being. Menomaru quickly knelt down and lapped up the nectar that poured from her womanhood. He savored the sweet taste as it coated his mouth and throat. He almost fainted at the smell of her arousal so close to his nose.

Once he had cleansed her of all her juices, he picked her up bridal style and laid her down on one of the cushions in his office. Ruri was glad that she no longer had to stand and welcomed the comfort of the plush cushion.
She glanced up at her mate with lust clouded eyes, her mouth twisted in a serene smile. She looked down and saw that Menomaru was still fully clothed. She growled at this and hastily began to remove his clothing, and coming back with poor results.

He decided to take pity and removed the rest of his clothes for her, tossing them aside to a forgotten corner of the study. She stared at her mate in all his glory. Steel-like muscles stretched over a lean and tall frame, covered by pale and flawless skin. His silken strands hung around them, creating a pale green curtain.

His red eyes glowed with lust as he licked his lips suggestively. Ruri could only do the same, her parched lips softening at the much needed moisture. He stared as her small tongue darted out and wet her full pink lips. The display only made him want her all the more.

He nudged his knee between her legs as he began his assault on her breasts. He first trailed his claws up and down the valley before circling one tip, then the other. He gently began to massage her nipple with his index finger and thumb, making the rosy peaks stiff.

After this, he slowly descended his mouth down upon them, kissing and nipping the luscious mounds, avoiding the tips to torture her. He circled her nipple with his tongue, leaving a trail of saliva in his wake, before taking her stiff peak into his hot and awaiting mouth.

He swirled it around in his mouth grazing it with his fangs, causing it to bleed a little. He eagerly licked at the wound, relishing in the metallic taste of her blood. Once he was finished, he gave its twin the same treatment before sitting up. Ruri looked at him in confusion and he smiled devilishly, “Are you so quick to forget that this was punishment? Next if you succeed then you’ll get what you want but until then, you suffer,” he said as he slipped his clothes back on and walked out of the office.

Ruri laid their daze and confused, and most of all, in pain. Since he didn’t finish, she was left with a burning desire that cause her to double over in pain and want. She quickly dressed herself and left the office to go back to her own room. She was so close yet so far away from relief.

As she staggered through the halls, she came across a guard who almost immediately figured out her situation. He eagerly carried her back to her room and offered her the release she so desperately needed. She screamed in pleasure and slumped down on the bed, asleep.

The guard redressed and left with a satisfied smile on his face, delighted at that the fates were being so generous to him that day.

~*~*~*~

She stood there, mirror in hand, hair and robes billowing in the breeze as they slowly came back. Their souls floated in one spot as their bodies materialized around them. It wasn’t really as hard as she thought it would be to find the spell to bring them back to the world of the living once more.
She felt as though her entire body was a giant puzzle that was left to be put together by some incompetent three year old. Said metaphorical three year old was having a difficult time deciding which piece of her body went where and often stuck it in the wrong place and refused to move it until they found a new piece.

Needless to say that this process hurt like nothing she had felt before, but she wasn’t one to complain. Little did she know that the man beside her was having similar feelings. After what seemed like an eternity of trial and error, the two were finally whole again.

They stretched their long neglected limbs and tested their breathing and blinking and what not. Once everything was found to work properly, they looked around to see what had brought them back from the world of the dead. Not seeing anybody but themselves, they just stared at each other with disbelieving eyes.

The man slowly walked up and embraced the woman, unsure if she was real, wanting to hold on to her to keep her from suddenly fading away. The woman slowly returned the hug, tears streaming down her face as she gripped his back. They were both going through a medley of emotions; grief, happiness, hope, pain, sorrow. But they held onto each other, not wanting to let go forever, but both knew that it couldn’t last.

They reluctantly released and stared into the other’s eyes, eyes that they hadn’t seen for years. Violet pools that swirled with emotion locked with chocolate ones that were glazed with tears. He cupped her cheek and rew her to him once more, whispering words of comfort in her ear, rocking her in his warm embrace. Once she had calmed, she pulled away.

The reality of their situation hit her hard as she fell to her knees. “I’m alive,” she whispered shakily, feeling her hands and body to make sure this just wasn’t some twisted illusion. She stood and stomped the ground, then bent over and inspected her legs.

Not wanting to miss the perfect opportunity, a beaded hand reached out and cupped her bottom, giving it a loving squeeze. The woman instantly whirled around and skin met skin as her hand forcefully collided with his cheek, sending him to the ground with a thud.

She couldn’t believe after being dead for only Kami knew how long, the first thing he did was grope her. “You hentai! Even after death you’re still the depraved pervert that you were before! I swear, one of these days you’re going to push me too far and the damage I do will be irreversible,” she growled as she took one menacing step toward him.

She couldn’t say that she didn’t miss it but it was still annoying. He slowly backed away, in fear of what she might do. His hand instantly flew to his jewels, wanting to protect what was most important to him besides the enraged tajiya that was coming at him.

“My dearest Sango, I was only trying to confirm that you were really there,” he stuttered,”my intentions were most honorable.”

It didn’t seem as though she bought it because she knocked him in the head multiple times before he fell to the ground, unconscious. She gave a satisfied snort and sat down beside him, exhausted from being brought back to life, a concept she still did not fully grasp.

The only things that could have brought them back were; Sesshomaru’s Tenseiga, which was highly unlikely, almost impossible. What reasons would he have for bringing two ningens back to life after he had tried to kill on numerous occasions? So that was ruled out.

The second one would be Sounga, it could call back souls from the dead. But that didn’t make sense for two reasons. One, Inuyasha ans Sesshomaru sealed it away in hell years ago and she doubted that a sword could escape from the pits of hell by itself, despite its power. two, if Sounga did bring something back from the dead, it became a zombie, and herself and miroku were definitely not zombies.

So there really wasn’t any logical answer as to why she was alive and well. And of course any logical being would conclude that they really weren’t alive and that this was indeed some kind of illusion as she had feared.

But it nagged at her because she didn’t know. It was human nature to be curious, curiosity was what made them so productive and foolish. But she wasn’t worried about how that much. If she wondered any more on the subject her head would explode at the sheer number of possibilities, logical or not.

Sango was more worried about the who. Who would have the determination, knowledge, and power to bring back to ningens? It wouldn’t have been Kagome, she had more than enough knowledge and determination, but Sango wasn’t so sure that she had enough skill and power.

It definitely wasn’t Inuyasha. He wasn’t smart enough to plan something like this, let alone carry it out. He had the attention span of a mouse and the brain power of an amoeba.. No, he wasn’t anywhere close to being that smart.

Shippou was definitely out of the line up, too young and he was no where close to being somewhere near to having a hundredth of the minimum amount of power required to pull something along this scale off.

It really couldn’t have been Sesshomaru, she didn’t know why he even came to mind. He hated humans with an undescribable passion and if she presented her reasoning to him he probably decapitate her head right on the spot.

Just as she was about to delve deeper into the subject, Miroku stirred. He sat up, leaving the land of the unconscious to rejoin the world of the living. His violet pools swirling with concern locked with her tear glazed chocolate ones, sending an unseen message in between.

“Lets go Sango.”

She turned to him, confusion and fear written all over her face, shining in her eyes. “Where will we go?! Who knows how long we’ve been dead, Miroku, for all we know everyone could have died or left! If that’s the case then we have no one to go back to. We’re alone and there’s no one left, houshi-sama, they’re all gone,” she whispered as she covered her face in her hands.

Miroku pulled her shaking form to his chest, trying to console her with his warm embrace. She readily gripped his shoulders as she sobbed into his chest. He whispered words of comfort in her ear as he rocked her, trying to quell her shaking.

“They’re not gone Sango, I promise you they aren’t. Our children will still be there and Inuyasha and Kagome will definitely be there, maybe they finally became mates like Inuyasha wanted,” he whispered, relieved that she had stopped crying.

He pulled away, stood up, and held out his hand to her. She hesitantly took it and lifted up from the ground. He intertwined her fingers with hers and started to walk back to the village for they had been dropped only half a day’s journey from it. Hope in their hearts and bravery in their eyes, they walked on into the night.

~*~*~*~

The image faded from the mirror before once again showing him his own reflection. They were alive, Kaguya had held up her end of the deal. His sister was alive, but at what costs? For hers and the monk’s life, he had to give two in return. It wouldn’t had hurt him as much if she had asked him to bring her two random people’s heads, but to ask him to kill, no murder the two people that meant more than life itself to Sango and Miroku was almost too much to bear.

He had seen how close Kagome was to his sister, closer than he could ever hope or dream to be, the hanyou was the same. They all made a tight nit family full of misfits and outcasts, but they loved each other nonetheless. He was positive that Sango would have rather stayed dead than have to live the rest of her life without her sister.

It was his fault that he was being pushed to do this anyway. If he wasn’t so weak in the very beginning, then he would be at home in the tajiya village with his family and friends, leading a normal life. But he had been weak and the ones he held closest to his heart had suffered for it.

Well that ended here and now. No one else would suffer because of him, not anymore. He was no longer the weak young boy with no will power, he was now the determined young man that wanted everything that was taken from him and his loved ones. He would get his revenge one way or another, and keep safe those that he loved, even if his life was at stake.

~*~*~*~

She moved with sheer grace as the crowd watched her attentively, eyes wide with admiration, or narrowed in disgust. She struck her final pose before bowing and slipping off stage to her dressing room, pleased when she heard applause.

She sat down in front of her mirror and began to remove the disgusting make up they had painted on her face to ‘bring out her natural beauty’. She sympathized for the clowns in her time for now she knew what it felt like to be covered in paint that dried and stuck to your skin, making it feel like a crust.

She eagerly dipped the wash cloth in the basin of water and scrubbed the offending substance away from her sensitive skin. She scrubbed so hard that her nose was now pink and raw, but at least she felt clean.

She had long gotten over her new appearance, it didn’t really surprise her that much. The pain she felt while she was inside the sphere matched the places where the changes had taken place. She wanted to think herself as beautiful, she really did, but Inuyasha’s voice had kept her from doing so.

It still stung to think about him, but she had mostly gotten over it. It was times like these that she wished that her mother was there to help her through with her wise advice and kind words, but she was trapped on the other side of that accursed well.

Her heart broke every time the thought of her time and her family crossed her mind. She hadn’t seen them in years, she often wondered if they missed her or thought about her. She didn’t know for sure that the well was closed, but since the fates had already been so cruel to her, she assumed that thy took her real family away as well.

One of these days when she worked up the courage she would go and try to get back to her time since there was nothing left for here in the Feudal Era. She was about to lay down on the futon in the corner when she heard a knock at the door.

Not caring who it was she told them to come in, too tired to question whoever it was. A black and silver clad figure stepped into the room and shut the door quietly behind them. They approached her and sat down with their back to Kagome’s face. She craned her neck to get a better view of the person but only saw silver hair.

Thinking it was Sesshomaru, she instantly sighed. “Good afternoon my lord, did you get to attend my performance?” she asked as she turned onto her back.

He gave a slight inclination of his head, meaning that he had. Kagome frowned at this. ‘You’d think that he’d at least ‘hn’ or something, but now we’re back to a no word communication system.’ “Was it to your satisfactory?”

Another inclination of his head. Her frown deepened,”Is that all you’re going to do?” she asked impatiently as she turned to his back. This time he shook his head, strands of silver swaying slightly.

Kagome smirked,”So the dog knows more than just one trick huh? Are there more or is that all you have in your arsenal?”

He just sat there, quiet as a rock, cold as one too. She was slowly growing tired of this game and sat up. She poked him on his shoulder,”hey, are you even listening to me? You know it’ rude to treat your guests in such a mean manner,” she huffed as she poked his shoulder again.

Still he sat there, non-responsive and unmoving, like he was dead. Kagome had reached her limit and spun him around to give him a piece of her mind, wanting to let him know what she thought of his little act.

What she saw caused her to give a small scream and fall backwards, trying to scamper away from the person in front of her. Golden eyes clenched closed as silver ears flattened against a matching colored head.

She covered her mouth to stifle another scream as her eyes widened in horror at the man across from her. Ears twitching, eyes locked on hers, face set in a scowl, was Inuyasha. “Why do you always have to scream wench?! You could have deafened!” he exclaimed as his moved his calloused hands up to massage his injured appendages.

The shock that he was in her room hadn’t worn off yet, so she said the only intelligent thing that her mind could conjure up at the moment,”What?”

He smirked,”Sharp as ever I see eh Kagome?” he asked as he tucked his hands into the voluminous sleeves of his haori. He looked just like he used to when they wee hunting for shards, like a stubborn puppy who didn’t get his way.

She didn’t take kindly to the snide remark he shot at her. “Is there something that you want of me, because if not then I would appreciate it if you would leave me alone.”

His scowl softened when her words reached his ears and he scooted closer to her. “There is something that I want of you, Kagome. An hour of your time is all I ask and I’ll be out of your way for the rest of the day,” he asked as his voice dropped down to deeper, softer tones.

As much as she wanted to push him away, the part of her that was still madly in love with him told her to give in to his simple request. It was only an hour, what could he possibly do in one hour? Coming to a conclusion, she reluctantly nodded her head, signaling that she had granted his request.

He smiled and pulled er into his lap, a pretty bold move considering where he was standing in terms of her feelings. He teetered on a dangerous line between forgiveness and contempt, and the move he just made didn’t exactly push him in the right direction.

“I want to explain why I went to Kikyo. It was because. . .”

~*~*~*~

He was on his way to her dressing room to ask her if she would like to join him to go to the play that was starting in half an hour when he caught an unfamiliar scent coming from her room. He took a whiff and discovered the scent of the hanyou mixed with Kagome’s permeating the air.

Immediately thinking that he as trying to cause her harm he strode to the room and leaned against the door, his acute hearing picking up every word they said. What he heard was unbelievable and he couldn’t accept it with actual evidence.

So he quietly slid the shoji screen open to reveal a sight that made his stomach lurch. Kagome was sitting in Inuyasha’s lap, and she was putting up no signs of a struggle either. He couldn’t believe it. After all that Inuyasha had put her through, after all the pain he had caused her, she still loved him.

As soon as the thought entered his mind, he frowned deeply. ‘Why should I care if she loves him or not, it really doesn’t matter to me. This Sesshomaru is above such things. If she wants to play second best to the dead clay bitch then I’ll let her. Who am I to take away her happiness if this is what she truly wants.’ Thought Sesshomaru as her stormed down the hallway.

As he made his way to his room, he couldn’t help but think that Inuyasha was what she truly wanted. He couldn’t help but think that she could be much happier with him than with Inuyasha. If she was with him, then she would be dressed in the finest clothes, and be pampered like the lady she truly was.

If she was with him, then she wouldn’t be second to anybody, he would only have eyes for her and her alone. She’d be cared for and nurtured, she would never have to lift another finger for the rest of her life.

But of course, Sesshomaru didn’t care. ‘Stupid bitch. If she wants to play as my brother’s whore then I’ll let her, she was none of my concern in the first place. I should have never allowed her filthy blood into my home for she has only caused me trouble. You could res her up, change her appearance, even change her scent, but she will always be the insolent human bitch that follows my brother around like a whore.’

He lay on his bed and closed his eyes, tired of looking at the world and dealing with its problems. He wouldn’t let that girl invade his thoughts any longer, she made it clear who she wanted. As far as Sesshomaru was concerned, she may as well have died. The idea put a ghost of a smile on his lips as he drifted into a peaceful sleep.

~~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Well that was a long chapter. Looks like Sesshy is a little jealous of our dear hanyou friend. Hope he doesn’t meet Kagome in the near future, that wouldn’t be pretty. And I’m so glad that I brought Sango and Miroku back, they deserve a second chance to. I guess I’m just a big softie wen it comes to these things. *sniffles* Anyway, remember, I LOVE REVIEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
