A/n: At first my first inclinationwas to apologize for the delay.I've had a lot of time on my hands the past while, for the mere reason I have a job now that consists of only weekend work, instead of the 6-7 days a week shit. That is absolute hell, let me assure you ;-;! I get to delve in to my own world this way, with all this time I have… I've even drawn some decent fanart for this story, and I have yet to color it… Since I'm such a fucking procrastinator when it comes to drawing. Geeze. I have art also for “Kiyou Nitsuite Amedare…”. Is it odd that I have a hard time writing only one fanfiction at a time? Ah well…
Anyway, the real point of this long talk is I wanted to say… (forgive me, I always get really fucking emotional over reviews, and I must sound like I'm always on my period or something)… thank you guys. Thank you so much, so, so much. I know I was getting a little whiny (*cough* really subtly…? *cough*) about the lack of reviews, but then I thought about it-like, really thought about it… It just… How do I explain this? I look at how many hits I've gotten, and though I'd wish more people would speak their minds about it, whether good or bad, I can say I'm honestly floored with the responses I get regardless.
It makes my heart flutter, and makes me feel like I'm some school girl with a crush. I truly understand why someone would care so much for their reviewers, because they are so therewith you, and understand you, and it drives you wild to think someone out there can really understand what you're saying, what you're trying to get across. Quite often, even if I write, I can't find the right words to say and maybe that's one thing that so captures me about Inuyasha… is that his actions speak much louder than his words, for the mere fact he doesn't quite speak his mind. (Not saying I don't, in fact I probably open my mouth too much, just like now!)
Just wanted to say… I really appreciate you guys, and I really love your words.
They make my heart soar.
As corny as that may sound ^_^.
Yours Truly,
Luna <3-
Chapter XV: Hazy Dreams, Hazy Reality
Kagome lowered her head shyly, almost avoidant in some way under Sango's analyzing leer. Kagome twitched, feeling as though her friend was trying to dissect her, and get in to her mind. And Kagome's mind was one place that she didn't want Sango to venture.
Not for her own sake, but more for Sango's… “Sango, please, I really have to be getting back…” Kagome tried again almost desperately, hoping that her voice didn't sound as pleading as she felt.
Something so innocent didn't deserve to be pillaged by some unforeseen shadow.
I'm already tainted… it doesn't matter…
“Kagome! Talk to me! You're not getting away this time… What the hell is wrong with you?” Kagome flinched at Sango's voice, eyes going wide in what appeared to be… fright…? Why? That question was the one that kept plaguing Sango when it came to matters of Kagome. Why did it seem like Kagome was lost inside herself, as if she had completely forgotten she was there?
“Kagome!” Again, Kagome jumped and looked at Sango with disconcerting eyes. “Sango, I really have to go… please. Inuyasha's waiting for me.” Sango could barely let out a syllable of a protest before the girl had taken off in the direction of the parking lot.
Sango felt herself frown angrily, more at the fact Kagome got away than anything else. She had been quietly and patiently waiting for when Kagome was ready to talk… but from the amount of time the girl had taken, it was obvious to her that Kagome wasn't planning on talking at all…
Kagome, you can't run away forever…
Sango just shook her head in a small amount of grief for her friend, and turned to walk solemnly home.

“Kagome, what the hell is wrong with you?” Inuyasha spat irritably. The girl had been snapping at every one of his comments, whether he spoke to himself or in passing, or even those spoken to her. It was seriously beginning to tick him off. “Nothing, fucking Kami, what is it with everyone and their interest in my private life now?!” She hissed back at him testily, her shoulders hunched up in aggravation.
Inuyasha growled at her, shoving lightly on one of her shoulders so she was forced to look at him. “Oi, when did you forget we happen to pretty much be living together?! I think that accounts for when it comes to me, you have no private life! So spill it!” Kagome scowled at him, her eyes flashing an electrifying blue before she reached out and shoved him back, burning him significantly with her power.
Inuyasha gasped slightly, frowning to ward off the sudden pain that stung that area. Déjà vu?
“I know that, idiot, but that doesn't mean you can pry in to my mind now, does it?!” Inuyasha grasped his shoulder lightly, vaguely aware she didn't know what she had done, but what piqued his interest the most was what she had said.
“Well, does it?!” She was in his face now, shouting at him. Then, suddenly, a thought crossed through his mind.
“It was about your mother… wasn't it?” Kagome froze on the spot immediately, looking as she had been caught in a trap. Her visage visibly drained, as if her anger had just flown out of her. Now… now all Kagome looked was tired.
“It's none of your business…” she said, though the sentence lacked any life. It seemed as if she had no vigor left… She was limp as Inuyasha scooped her up in to his arms, holding her close. Slowly, she brought her arms to lie around his neck loosely… and it did not take long before he heard small choking sounds ensue in her throat.
Lifting her up to carry her bridal style, he looked down upon her…
She seemed so fragile…
“Don't worry, Kagome… I'm here… I won't ever leave you,” he said with such conviction, that very soon sobs wracked her small frame once again.
Inuyasha didn't have to ask anything to know what had happened.
And he didn't have the heart to confirm through Kagome what was obvious to him…
That as far as her family was concerned, she was alone.
~~~*~~~
It struck Kagome as ironic as the three of them sat at the dining room table together. Sesshomaru made it a point at least once a week they all sat together as a family. Inuyasha and her stole glances at each other, continuing a silent conversation that Sesshomaru seemed to ignore, though they both knew he was very aware of.
“So, how was your day little sister?” he asked her quietly, breaking through the silence that hung heavy over the air. He hardly ever asked her that, and he only did when he knew she must have had a bad day. Once again, she found herself cursing his perceptiveness. “It was all right, Sesshomaru…” she spoke quietly, poking at the white rice in her bowl idly. She managed to gaze at him once, watching him as he sipped his tea but kept his eyes trained on her. One eyebrow arched slightly, in askance to her unwillingness to speak freely… But she knew he knew that was how she normally responded, despite his effort to get her to open up her mind.
Sesshomaru allowed his eyes to glide easily over to Inuyasha, “And how about you, little brother?” Inuyasha looked down at his own rice, frowning a bit as he responded, “Fine, and yours?” Sesshomaru decided to lead by example and spoke slowly, “It was really quite a development. Today at the office we had won that contract we have been bidding for, and my higher ups were really quite pleased with it. I might get a raise because of our success.” Inuyasha gave Sesshomaru a ghost of a smile, his countenance relaxing a bit. “That's good Sesshomaru…”
Sesshomaru nodded, looking toward both our dinners somewhat. “You both have barely eaten. If you wish, you two may go up and completely your homework and I shall take care of the dishes for tonight.” Inuyasha and Kagome looked at each other, jumping at the chance and thanked him politely as possible despite their discomfort. Kagome escaped before Inuyasha, and as he was about to make his retreat, Sesshomaru spoke to him. “Inuyasha…”
Inuyasha flicked his eyes toward Sesshomaru, but seemed wholeheartedly disinterested in anything he might have to say, “Yes?”
“You have yet to claim her, do you?” Sesshomaru asked in reserve, as if he hadn't inquired about something so personal. Inuyasha stood somewhat dumbstruck, looking at Sesshomaru somewhat blankly. The fact he looked somewhat dumb did not pass by Sesshomaru, and he chuckled. “You do know what I mean when I say that, don't you? I really hope you do, because if you don't not only has your mother failed in teaching you, but you haven't remembered a thing.”
Inuyasha flushed darkly, in both embarrassment and anger as he growled at him, “I don't see how that's any of your business, you perverted bastard.”
Sesshomaru shook his head, “Tsk, tsk. You know I ask only in both yours and Kagome's best interests.”
Inuyasha stammered a bit at this, knowing what his brother said was true… but finding he had nothing to retort with, he just shot his brother a nasty look without responding and retreated upstairs to his room and left Sesshomaru snickering at the table.
“I guess your answer is no then, little brother…”
“Well, in my dream he took something from me… and it keeps nagging at me in the back of my mind, but I just can't place what it is. But it's so important that it makes me sick to think that asshole has it, Inuyasha,” Kagome spoke in earnest, trying her best to convey the importance in the dream. Inuyasha just looked on seriously, with a look of deep contemplation.
“You really don't know, Kags?” he asked her softly… but she just shook her head in the negative, looking somewhat distressed at this fact. “But the stupidest part is that I feel as if I should know what it is, better than the back of my hand. But I just can't remember.”
Inuyasha nodded, understand completely how she felt. “Well… I suppose there's nothing we can do about it for now except think on it and wait a little while. Okay?” He watched Kagome debate over it in her mind, hesitation flittering through her face before she finally agreed quietly.
“Okay then… don't worry so much, Kagome… it's probably nothing, okay? Remember, sometimes we do dream like normal people, all right?” Again, Kagome just nodded but said nothing.
He wrapped an arm around her and pulled her close. “You have too much on your mind… sometimes you're just so funny, and you need to relax…”
Kagome sighed and buried her way in to his arms, breathing in his deep, masculine scent. The steady beating of his heart made its way to her ear, and his even breathing lulled her. But his voice pulled her out of the gentle spell, breaking her way back to reality.
“Kagome… if something was wrong with you, you'd tell me… wouldn't you?” the true concern in his voice caused her to lift her head, and lock gazes with him. She swallowed hard, unable to form a real response. She couldn't really lie, but she had been holding things back… she admitted that to himself… but it was just… so he wouldn't worry.
“Yeah…” she responded quietly, settling back against him to avoid his inquiring eyes which pleaded with her soul to be completely truthful with him.
She saw out of the corner of her eye as he bit on his bottom lip, and it drew her attention there. She leaned forward and gently place a chaste kiss there. She felt the tension in his body smooth out and melt away… and as she leaned back, she looked directly in to his eyes as she stroked his cheek gently. “Please, Inuyasha… don't worry about me so much…”
She watched a pained look cross his features, as very suddenly she was enveloped by him, his mouth pressing against hers as he delved his tongue inside her to explore. She shuddered, tentatively reaching out to him in submission, knowing he needed that. Knowing he needed to feel as if he was there, there to protect her. And in her mind, she knew… it was impossible to protect her from everything, and she knew he would die trying if he could.
But by the way he touched her, the way his body slid over hers to cover her, as if to hide her from the world… there was nothing she could do, or say, that would ever keep him from worrying about her. And that caused both a warmth to spread through her while a coldness took place in her heart… because no matter, try as she might, there was never a day either of them would ever be completely okay.
