Chapter 3

Inuyasha remained angered toward Kagome until somewhat into the afternoon. His anger quickly faded away when Kagome approached him with a smile that made him feel extremely nervous and his legs turn to jello. "We should go outside, Inuyasha! The snow is so fun and Shippo's bulding a snowman!" Inuyasha decided to pretend to still be cross with Kagome, and look away from her grumpily. "C'mon!" Kagome laughed, grabbing Inuyasha's arm and dragging him outside. "You're not still mad at me about what this morning are you?"

Inuyasha made a pouting face, but after seeing the sad way Kagome was looking at him quickly smiled. "What thing?" Kagome laughed and to Inuyasha's disapointment let go of his arm and went over to talk to Shippo. Inuyasha sighed dreamily as he watched her and leaned on the mail box by the house which collapsed under the fullweight which he was putting on it. He jumped in suprise.

'No, I don't liike her!' He thought frantically. He looked up to see Kagome look away from him. 'Was she...staring at me just now? Wait, why do I care...I don't like her...' Inuyasha crossed his arms grumpily. He again glanced up to see Kagome looking at him, excpect this time she didn't look away and she was smiling. The small burning in his cheeks and the speeding up of his heart that he received last time was tripple force this time. She laughed at the sour mood Inuyahsa put on to cover his embarassment.

There was snow all around them, and Shippo was busy at work with the assistance of Kagome on his snowman. Inuyasha forced himself to tear his eyes away from Kagome. 'Does she have to be so pretty?' His eyes remained glued to the ground. 'What am I thinking? She's not pretty! Well...maybe a little...maybe..." It was decided in Inuyasha's head, that he would look up to see if Kagome was pretty, to make sure she wasn't...(but it was really to just look at her, he was just making an excuse).

But a huge clod of snow hit him in the face. After it cleared away, Inuyasha saw Kagome throwing more snow at him. Inuyasha grinned and gathered a huge amount of snow. He hurled it toward Kagome, who ducked out of its path and returned with a large amount of small snowballs. They all pelted Inuyasha, who didn't expect them and felt more determined then ever and gathered more snow and charged after Kagome.

In the nick of time, Kagome leaped behind a fur tree, which the snowballs colldied with in her stead. Inuyasha spied Kagome slowly walking away from the tree, apparently unarmed with snow and not paying him the slightest attention, Inuyasha smirked evilly, it was the perfect oppurtunity. He again gathered a great amount of snow and this time walked up to Kagome who then revealed an enormous amount of snowballs which she then threw at him.

By the time Inuyasha had cleared all the snow away and could see clearly, Kagome was out of sight. Slowly, alert, he began searching for her. Soon, he found her, waiting expectantly for him, sitting behind a tree, only, conveniently, she was looking the other way and hadn't noticed him. Unfortuantely, when Inuyasha charged at Kagome, he slipped on a frozen puddle of water and not only dropped his snow but landed on to top of Kagome.

The both of them were too stunned to do anything at first and Inuyasha's mind was too frozen (from shock, not the cold) that he didn't even think of getting off of Kagome, who now had a smrik on her face. 'What?" Inuyasha thought. 'She doesn't enjoy this...does she?' But his question seemed answered when Kagome slowly slid her arms around Inuyasha's neck. Inuyasha gulped and his face was now very red, but it had been a trick and Kagome three a big chunk of snow down his jacket and shirt.

Upon this event Inuyasha jumped up, dancing around, trying to get the snow out. Kagome laughed. When Inuyasha finally got the snow out he began running toward a giggling, unsuspecting Kagome. When he got nearer, Kagome gasped and quickly swung her fist backward into the tree. This caused a gargantuan amount of snow to completely bury Inuyasha. He soon shook it all off, causing Kagome to get partially covered in snow.

A playful giggle escaped Kagome as dusted the snow of her and she quickly ran behind the tree. Inuyasha followed her, which apparently, Kagome hadn't prepared for and was creeping around the other end while Inuyasha was behind her. He then scoop up again a clump of snow and threw it at Kagome's back. "Yes!" He hissed. Finally success! Kagome slowly turned to face him, very cold from the icy hit. Inuyasha couldn't help chuckling. Suddenly, Kagome threw snow, htting him in, unfortunately, in a very sensitve place on a guy. Inuyasha was the cold one now...he was also the one in pain.

Kagome's hand was on her mouth in surprise. But she soon broke into laughter. Inuaysha smirked up at her, she was so happy. "Ouch!" She suddenly shouted. Inuyasha's happy expression soon turned into a concerned one.

"What's wrong?" Kagome held up her very swollen red hands.

"The snow's too cold...their were no more gloves...so I just came out here without them"

"That was silly," Inuyasha remakred a bit scoldingly as he approched Kagome. "Have mine...you should have asked before..."

"But--" But before Kagome could protest Inuyasha had taken off his gloved and was putting them on Kagome's hands.

"Ouch--they're sensitive--it hurts--"

"It's better than nothing," Inuyasha told her firmly. Kagome nearly laughed, Inuyasha was reminding her of her mother. "Come on...you'd better go inside and warm your hands by the fire." Kagome didn't protest to this, it seemed like a nice idea, she was rather cold and soon the two were the only ones in the warm cabin, besies Kaede who was busy elsewhere in the small house preparing tea.

Both Kagome and Inuyasha took off their jackets and warm things and sat by the fire place. Kagome was shivering slightly, but she was steadily becoming warmer as she held her hands close to the fire. Soon she was perfectly warm as they both sat in silence, Inuyasha just watching her.

"Oh...my hands are still cold...they're still frost bitten..." Kagome complained softly.

"Here..." Inyasha said, motioning Kagome to turn to him and she did wondering what he was going to do. He then put her left hand in between both of his hands upon which Kagome said ow and became more uncertain. Inuyasha then rubbed her hands roughly and quickly. It was rather painful at first but Kagome's hands soon felt better.

'This isn't too bad, they don't really hurt anymore,' she thought. She felt very peaceful as she looked at her hands then to the fire, then her eyes rested on Inuyasha who was focused on getting Kagome's hands warm. Suddenly, Inuyasha looked up, Kagome's heart just then started racing out of its calm beating. Kagome's stomach did a painful flip as she quickly looked away. She felt her blood rush to her cheeks and them become far warmer than the rest of her body.

Inuyasha watched her curiously as he continued rubbing. Kagome felt very horrible being under the gaze of Inuyasha's yellow eyes and quickly took her right hand, which Inuyasha had started rubbing after he had been done with the left from his grasp. "It's good now," she lied.

"Alright," Inuyasha replied, still studying her. Kagome shivered even though now she was perfectly warm. Her hands then began itching rather badly. Kagome hated that about getting cold, once you're warm, whatever was cold, you legs or your hands, they start itching very badly. Inuyasha seemed to take notice. "Uh-oh...okay, this should stop the itching..." Inuyasha put a small amount of snow in Kagome's cupped hands which quickly melted. They started hurting slightly and Inuyasha quickly gripped her hands with his and they soon warmed up again.

Kagome carefully looked up to survey Inuyasha who was look around seeming to be waiting for when he thought they were warm and suddenly let go. "Thanks..." Kagome said, not daring to look at Inuyasha.

"Sure...it was nothing..." inuyasha replied, smiling slightly 'Maybe I do like her...a little...' Kagome smiled rather brightly and quickly stood up and turned away. She clutched her heart.

'Stop beating so fast! Why is it doing that...well I do like him, but can't it just stop?! I don't like him that much!' Kagome thought as she walked off.

'Alright...maybe I like her a lot...is it so wrong? Nah...it can't do any harm, right? She just can't find out...' Inuyasha thought peacefully as he watched her walk off. 'She just can't know...'

Kagome stayed behind after dinner to help Kaede clear the table and clean up. Inuaysha discovered her really wanted to be around Kagome and hung back as well and even helped. Afterward Inuyasha found himself rather tired from all the dish washing putting away of things and leaned lazily on the wall. "Wooh...I'm tired..." he breathed.

"Jeez...that wasn't very much work, Inuyasha. You must not do very much housework, huh?" Kagome said smirking. Inuyasha was staring at her now, how could she think that wasn't very much work?!

"What?!"

"Oh, forget it!" Kagome laughed. "Thanks for your help, Inuyasha." Inuyasha tried not to, but he wound up smiling anyway. Kagome felt her face go red and quickly turned and walked into the next room where the others were sleeping. Looking curiously after her, Inuyasha followed. Kagome had suddenly stopped and Inuaysha almost ran into her.

"What's up?" He inquired.

"Is it me, or have Miroku and Sango been actinf weird since this morning?" Inuyasha poundered this over and soon realized Kagome had been right. They had been acting strangely all day.

"Yeah...they have been acting weird...Miroku hasn't tried anything at all for the entire day..." Both Inuyasha and Kagome looked at each other thoughtfully for some time. Finally Inuyasha said, "Well..they were up together this morning...I saw them when I woke up..."

"Ooh! I wonder if they're in love!" Kagome sighed dreamily. Inuaysha rolled his eyes and sighed. "What?" Kagome demanded.

"It's just...that's so unlikely," Inuyasha replied.

"Why do you say that? It could happen, anyone can fall in love, Inuyasha. Even you fell in love with Kikyo..." Kagome couldn't help saying the word "Kikyo" with a bit of anger. Fortuantely Inuyasha didn't seem to notice.

"What do you mean, 'even me?' Like it's so IMPOSSIBLE!" Inuyasha growled.

"Oh, don't be grouchy Inuyasha!" Kagome beamed, cheerfully. She then affectionately carressed the tip of Inuyasha's nose with her index finger and began to stroll off. Inuyasha went cross-eyed trying to look where Kagome had touched his nose and his face flushed rather quickly. Kagome's did as well, as she frose in her tracks wondering why she had done that and quickly spun around, attempting to make an excuse for her strange action.

Inuyasha glanced at Kagome from the side, but but quickly looked away, face still crimson in color. "Uh....want a lolly pop?" Kagome asked Inuyasha, struggling to change the subject.

"A what?"

"A lollypop," Kagome repeated as she walked over to her backpack in the other room where they had all just eaten. Inuyasha followed, puzzledly and found Kagome rumaging through her backpack. "Oh here it is. See...you eat it..." And finally she revealed what Inuyasha at first took for a drumstick. "You eat it...well actually you suck on it..." It didn't look edible to Inuyasha.

"How do you get that whole thing inside your mouth?" He inquired blankely.

"No," Kagome laughed. "You only suck on the top..." She removed the blue rapper. "This one's blueberry flavor." Hesitating, Inuyasha took the lollypop from Kagome. "You suck on the candy part," she instructed at Inuyasha's confused expression. He didn't seem to understand any better. "The blue part." Inuyasha put the lollypop in his mouth curiously.

"Is goo, anks ovomem," Inuyasha's muffled voice said.

"You can take it out when you talk," Kagome giggled. Inuyasha pulled the lolly pop from his mouth.

"It tastes good...uh...thanks..." He said again, blushing slightly.

"You're welcome!" Kagome cried, cheerfully. "Oh...I sort of want one too...I'm sure there's more in my backpack..." Kagome again sorted through her backpack. "Aww...there isn't...hey!" Came her voice from inside the backpack. "There's a pack of cards in here!" Kagome held out a deck of cards eld together by rubberband in Inuyasha's view. "Do you know how to play poker?"

"No."

"Hearts?"

"No."

"Gin?"

"No."

"Go Fish?"

"No...." Inuyasha replied in a somewhat annoyed tone.

"Do you know any card games at all?"

"No!" inuyasha shouted unexpectedly. Kagome looked very taken aback by Inuyasha's sudden out-burst. "I...I...don't even know what cards are..." He admitted quietly.

"Well..." Inuaysha looked at her anxiously, hoping he didn't offend her. "...I suppose you wouldn't..." Kagome said thoughtfully, her index finger on her chin. Inuyasha let out such a loud sigh Kagome was stared at him for a long time. There was a short silence. "Well! Go fish is easy enough! Here, I'll show you!" Kagome chimed happily, sitting at the table. There was another pause. "*ahem*!" She said, motioning Inuyasha toward her. Inuyasha quickly sat next to her at the table. "You're going to want to sit across from me to play..."

"O-oh!" Inuyasha cried awkwardly and fumbled onto the pillow across the table from her. Finally, after Kagome introduced Inuyasha to every card in the deck, she began explaining the rules.

"I'll be dealer. That means I deal the cards...which means I pass out the cards. In this game we both get seven." Kagome dealt seven cards to Inuyasha and herself. "Now, you don't want me to see your hand..." Inuyasha quickly put both of his hands under the table. "Uh...no...the cards I gave you is your hand..."

"Oh..." Inuyasha replied, again looking sheepish, cheeks heating up slightly. He put his hands back on the table.

"You want to hold you hand like this..." Kagome instructed, holding her cards in a classic fan shape. "Remember, these are the backs of the cards, its okay if I see those, you don't want me to see the front of them," Kagome told Inuyasha. After completing the incredibly difficult challenge of holding his cards, it seemed he had to be able to see all of them too! Finally, after Inuyasha caused several cards to go flying and wound up diving under the table to retreive many that he dropped, he seemed to have acheived this. "Can you see them all now?" Inuyasha nodded slowly. Kagome then explained the art of taking turns and going fish. "Alright, you got it?"

"Yeah...piece of cake..." Inuyasha lied slowly.

"Cool...alright, so, you go first," Kagome explained.

"Me?" Inuyasha said, quite alramed.

"Well, I dealt and the person left of the dealer goes first...which would be you." Inuyasha tried to look calm and collected.

"Sure...easy..." he sat still for a moment.

"Do you remember what I told you?" Kagome inquired, curiously.

"Yes..." Inuyasha snarled quietly.

"Alright..." Kagome sighed doubtfully. Fortunately, things seemed to get better from there and soon the game was running quite smoothly.

"Do you have any eights?" Kagome asked Inuyasha looking through her hand, which was now rather large.

"Nope!" Inuyasha replied, grinning. Kagome sighed defeatedly. "Go fish!" Kagome took the card from the top of the deck between them and added it to her hand. She eyed it angrily. "Have any queens?" Inuyasha asked.

"No...go fish..." Inuyasha didn't seemd so discouraged by this. After all, he had several pairs on the table, while Kagome had none. He picked the top card of the deck and added it to his hand.

"Yes! Oh yeah! Just what I needed! A queen!" Inuyasha cheered, putting down a queen of hearts with a queen of clubs. Kagome looked rather annoyed. "That means I get to go again," Inuaysha gloated. "...right?" Kagome looked at him with an aggravated look. "Right?" Inuyasha said, grinning broadly. He just wanted her to have to say it, add to the agony of defeat.

"Yes! That's right Inuyasha..." Kagome replied sulkily.

"Oh come on! It's only a game!" Inuyasha told her happily. Kagome sighed quietly and her focus fell onto her cards. "Now...prepare for annialation...do you have any sixes?"

"No," Kagome replied, smirking. Inuyasha looked a bit disapointed, but beamed when he got the card. "No...it can't be..."

"Well, it's not a six..." Inuyasha began, smiling, "...but it's a seven...I've been needing one of those..." Inuyasha put a seven of clubs and a seven of spades face up on the surface of the table amongst several other pairs.

"It's still my turn, though," Kagome siad, triumpantly. "Do you have any fives?"

"Nope, go fish." Kagome growled and picked the top card. She sighed angrily as she put it in her hand, indicating the card was of no use.

"This time you have no hope, Kagome," Inuyasha infromed her, a wide grimace now on his face, "DO you have any..." he paused, "...eights?" Kagome gasped.

"Ooh! You're evil!" Kagome said angrily as she slamed the very eight she had been trying to match onto the table. Inuyasha took it gleefully.

"I love this game..." Inuaysha chanted. The deck was no widdled down to only a few cards and Kagome's hand was very sizable wile inuyasha only had three cards in his.

"Oh! There's no hope for me...I forfit!" Kagome sighed, throwing her cards face down onto the table.

"Well...let's see how bad you had it..." Inuyasha said, reaching for Kagome's cards. But Kagome quickly snactched them out of his reach and shuffled them into the deck. "Hey..." Inuyasha said, blinking vacantly.

"Oh? DId you...say something...just now, Inuyasha?" Kagome asked blankely. She didn't want him to know she had let him win completely and around ten pairs were hidden in her huge hand. 'It would shatter his poor widdle ego!' She thought smiling, 'Not really all that little, unforunately...'

"I guess it's not that important..." Inuyasha said, quietly. A relieved sigh escaped Kagome. "So...now what do we do?" Inuyasha asked Kagome, eyeing her suspiciously.

"Well..." Kagome paused for what seemed to Inuyasha like an eternity. She then gasped all of a sudden, causing Inuyasha to fallo over on his side. "Charades!" She cried happily. She quickly ran off, grabbed her backpack and ran back. She plopped her back onto the table and tore through it wildly. Soon enough, she revealed a card board box labeled "Charades" and set it on the table, and hit her back pack off onto the floor. "I play charades with my fmaily and freidns all the time...once my family spent all this time making charades cards but we didn't play. So now I have a whole bunch of them!" Kagome cried eccentically, opening the box. "Hee, hee, hee, hee...I wasn't suppsoed to take these.. oh well! It's so good I did! This is going to be so fun!" Kagome then began laughing almost histarically. "It's been so long since I've played charades!" Kagome then hugged the box warmly.

"Uh.......should I leave you two alone?" Inuyasha inquired staring at Kagome as if she had gone insane, which seemed to be the case.

"Oh...you're here..." Kagome said in realization. She blinked blankely for a few moments. She suddenly beamed. "Wanna play charades?" Inuyasha didn't say anything. "Pleeeease?" Kagome whined, pouting at his discouraging silencing and making a face Inuyasha couldn't refuse.

"Fine..." Inuyasha growled, though he didn't particularly care if they played or not.

"Yay!" Kagome squeaked cheerfully, embracing Inuyasha joyously.

"Uhhhhhhhh...." Inuyasha murmured, face quickly resembling a giant red cherry.

"Uh..." Kagome said, realizing what she had just done. "Sorry...I just like charades...a lot..." She said, quickly leaping away from Inuyasha and turned away, looking very embarrassed.

"Apparently..." Inuyasha replied somewhat grumpily, though he didn't mind being in Kagome's arms at all.
