The words you scribbled on the walls
The loss of friends you didn't havecall you when the time is rightyou in, or are you outthem all to know? ~*
Beep . . . beep . . . beep . . . beep . . . beep . . . beep . . .
"At least its steady." the voice echoed in his mind. "He should wake up soon right?" who was that voice?
"Yes, hopefully." that voice . . . a woman's . . . also familiar. Is it?
"Then again, he'll need his rest." a third voice chimed in.
Wanting nothing more then to know what was going on Inuyasha tried with all his might to open his eyes. Slowly . . . through a foggy haze he could see three people . . . two very tall men, and a fairly short woman. His eyes drifted closed again. A sheering pain was running through his temple, throbbing sharply. He tried to shake it away, but moving only made the pain worse.
"He's convulsing!" the voice was recognizable now . . . Sesshomaru.
"Should I buzz the doctor?" the woman . . . that is my mother.
"Yes, that would be wise." that means that has to be dad.
A loud buzzing sound ran through the room, penetrating through Inuyasha's brain. Ouch! He screamed inside his head, trying so much to clear the headache, and generally sheering pain.
"What seems to be the trouble?" another voice?
"He just began twitching. We weren't sure what was the problem. He's been immobile for days, and the sudden movement concerned us." Sesshomaru surmised.
Days?
"That is very normal. It simply means he's waking up." the nurse turned over to face Inuyasha. "Good morning Inuyasha. Feeling better? I am your nurse Remi. Do you remember me?"
Inuyasha didn't want to respond to the woman. She was pesky and annoying him. Unless she could help his pain go away, he didn't care if she were the president.
"I am going to administer a little medicine into you here. This might hurt for a second." she said gently. Inuyasha inwardly groaned, but nothing could compare to the immense pain he already felt.
Inuyasha felt a small prick in his left arm, but it was nothing major. Almost instantly after that, the pain was lifted. He hardly felt as though there were any pain at all. He opened his eyes and looked around. His vision was no longer blurry, and he could make out his three family members perfectly.
"Inuyasha! Darling you all right!" his mother ran over to him and hugged him gently. He didn't really have the strength to hug her back so he opted for smiling pleasantly.
"I am glad to see you are awake son. You gave us quite a scare." His father stood next to him, patting him on the shoulder.
"Yes, it was quite horrifying."
"Not that you . . . cared. Right Sess?" he found that speaking was hard, and he had to really work to form the correct words.
"Right." Sesshomaru almost smiled at his little brother, instead choosing to smirk.
"Ah, there is no speech damage. Impeccable! I was sure with the injury you suffered to your larynx there would be some side-effect." the nurse stated intelligently.
"It," he coughed slightly, "does hurt a little." he paused. "It is hard to . . . form sent. . . sentences." it felt odd to him, knowing what he wanted to say, and have it perfectly formulated in his mind, but it didn't come out right through his mouth. It were as though his mouth and his mind no longer worked together, but were two separate things entirely. He realized immediately, that was how it had always been, but before they would work together for him. Was this what it was like to not be . . . normal?
"Don't rush yourself into recovering dear. It will take a while." his mother stated.
"What happened anyway?" he asked. The three of them looked at one another.
"What do you remember?" his father asked gently.
"I remember . . . " he thought exceptionally hard. "Miroku . . . " he continued to think, muttering words such as, 'left his house', 'library', 'love', 'Kikyou'. "I . . . I know I was with Kikyou . . . on our way back . . . she said she . . . didn't love me . . . I told - " suddenly his eyes opened wide as his memories came flooding back to him. Kikyou, his secret, the accident, ambulance, tree, dog barking, a shadow - his savior?. Suddenly his voice worked for him again, he concentrated on what he needed to say, and forced his brain to slow down for him, "I was driving home with Kikyou, I told her . . . my secret. She became distant after that, she was angry almost. She said she didn't love me. I said I didn't love her. I was fighting with her over the radio. There was another car. It swerved into our lane, I couldn't avoid it. We collided, with a tree. There was a dog barking, and I am positive someone pulled me out of the car." he paused, thinking of anything he left out. "Was it Kikyou? What room is she in? I have to make sure she is all right."
There was a long and tense silence, during which the hanyou grew impatient. "What the fuck . . . what room is she in?" he yelled angrily.
"Inuyasha . . . " his mother began, knowing she was the more gentle one of the three. "Kikyou . . . she didn't come to the hospital." she stated.
"Oh, good. Then she is home. I thought for sure she'd have an injury." he leaned back against his bedpost and sighed with relief.
"No Inuyasha . . . Kikyou . . ." his mother held her head low, as did the boys. "She . . . has passed on."
"Kikyou . . . " he looked down at the foot of his bed, not really looking at anything.
The rest of the night passed on in silence. The nurse brought him dinner, which he picked at before having an orderly take it away. His father had to leave because of a very urgent meeting he was having at nine in the morning; his brother left because of the very same investment. His mother however stayed with him all night, even after the nurse brought him some sleeping pills.
The next morning Inuyasha woke up feeling completely refreshed, as though he had just gotten back from a week at the spa. "Morn . . . Morning Mum." he said brightly, though the statement was hard to get out.
"Good Morning sweetie," she kissed him on the cheek, "How are you feeling?"
"Great. Can I . . . go home?" he asked hopefully.
"I am afraid not. The doctor says you still need to work on some speech classes, and we have to test your walking. You may need a few months of physical therapy." she sat back down, holding her son's hand.
"Feh. I can get up and walk . . . out right here." he swung his feet over the edge of the bed and put his feet to the floor. The tile was nice and cool, it relaxed him. He had to concentrate very hard, on anything but the sheering pain in his legs and head.
"Inuyasha. I wouldn't suggest . . . " she was cut off when Inuyasha put all his weight on his legs and stood straight up.
He smiled to himself, pleased that he wouldn't need to stay for physical therapy. He was a hanyou, and no damn doctor would tell him he couldn't walk on his own. He glanced up from the floor and saw the mirror across from him. His expression fell and he collapsed back onto the bed. His mother ran to him and held on to his hand. What Inuyasha saw was not a pretty sight. His face was partially bandaged still, and he had a long scar down his right cheek, the stitches were still in and the blood was dried to his face, giving him a ghostly appearance.
"I look like a . . . freak. I am demented." he stuttered, trying to come to grips with the fact that he wasn't who he used to be.
"Now Inuyasha." his mother began. "It isn't so bad. The scars could very well heal. The scars on your chest are already healing quite nicely." she closed her eyes as Inuyasha comprehended her words.
"More scars?" he pulled open his night shirt to reveal his chest. His normally perfect flesh was marred with scars from various operations. A long scar, covering the length of his arm, was visible now that his long sleeve shirt was not on. Inuyasha felt himself loosing grips with reality. He shook the feeling of despair from his thoughts.
"Inuyasha . . . "
"Don't bother. I'll . . . . I'll get over it." he hoped. "I hope Kikyou isn't as badly hurt. Can I see her?"
"Inuyasha, we talked about this yesterday." she said gently. He racked his brain for information, not remembering much of yesterday. He closed his eyes and tried to remember.
"Oh." was all he could come up with.
"The doctor said you may have acute memory loss, as your body tries to recover." she explained.
"Okay." he thought for a few minutes before he spoke again, his tone somber, "Okay. I'll do the stupid therapy." he said.
"Good to hear. You didn't have a choice." she kissed his cheek, "I am going to go get your breakfast." she turned to walk out.
"Just tell me one thing." he requested. She turned back to him and nodded, "Who saved me?"

&nbs p; "Kagome?"
"Hello Yano Sensei." Kagome smiled at the schools guidance counselor.
"What are you doing here?" she asked pleasantly.
"On my way to work."
"Oh really? I was wondering. Well, I am sure you have heard about Inuyasha." Kagome nodded slightly. "I was wondering if you could bring this to him. I know you live near the rehabilitation center. It is the course sign ups for his school. His parents wanted him to still be able to sign up for classes before fall started. Since they are positive he will be better by then."
"Oh, uh, can't someone else do it?" Kagome asked, shuffling her feet into the soft patch of dirt.
"Well, I would, but I live on the other side of town, and I never go by there, and I am afraid it would get lost in my car for months." She laughed half-heartedly and looked at Kagome with pleading eyes.
"Sure," Kagome took the small packet and put it in her purse. "I am sorry I have to go to work. Good Bye Sensei."

"Come on you stupid elevator. I just want to get this over with." Kagome hit the 'up' button again and tapped her foot impatiently.
"Do you always talk to elevators?"
"Sesshomaru?" Kagome turned around and smiled.
"How are you my dear Kagome?" he kissed her cheek softly.
"I am doing pretty well, how are you?"
"As good as can be expected." his tone was sad and Kagome felt awkward.
"Is he okay?" she asked.
"By 'he' I assume you mean my little brother." Kagome nodded, "Well, his stubborn behavior will see to it that he makes it through this life in one piece." Sesshomaru laughed but his face doned no happiness, "He is doing much better, thank you for your concern."
The elevator opened and Kagome and Sesshomaru stepped inside. Kagome listened to the soft elevator music as the elevator climbed the building.
"So, what brings you here? Not to see him. "
"Actually yes. I was asked to bring him this." Kagome pulled out the paper.
"I can bring it to him if it is such a hardship for you." his tone sounded bitter.
"I can do it. It was my responsibility."
"My brother is not your responsibility." he snapped back.
"Well excuse me." there was another awkward silence as the elevator opened.
"Do you even know what room he is in?"
"Yes, god what do you think I am a moron?" Kagome began walking toward Inuyasha's room, ignoring Sesshomaru now.
"I didn't say that. I just know how much you despise him and he doesn't need your pity!" Sesshomaru rose his voice only slightly, but that was an action to be concerned about.
"WELL MAYBE IT'S NOT PITY! MAYBE IT'S UNDERSTANDING AND COMPASSION!" Kagome yelled at the top of her lungs. Many nurses looked to see what the commotion was about, and a few patients stuck their heads out of their rooms. "Look, just let me do this and stop yelling at me." Kagome walked briskly down the hall and knocked on Inuyasha's door.
"WHAT?" he barked from the other side.
Kagome walked in timidly and smiled at him. She tried to hide in her shock as she looked at the man before her. Where she would normally see an arrogant and pompous jerk, with his 'I am too sexy for anybody' attitude, she saw a sad little boy. He had a cast on his arm, and a scar along his right cheek, it looked as though he had a cast on his leg too, but Kagome couldn't tell due to his blanket. Not only that, but Kagome noticed that he had triangular ears perched atop his head he's a demon? She tried to take her focus off Inuyasha, opting to look around the room, which was very spacious and cozy. Inuyasha had a few things from home brought in, such as his football trophy, and a quilt that seemed to be hand crafted years ago.
"Hi." Kagome tried pleasantly.
"Feh." he turned back to his TV and ignored the visitor.
"Inuyasha, I was asked to bring this to you." Inuyasha turned off the TV and looked to Kagome. She was wearing a black skirt with many loops hanging off it, and a yellow tank top with a zipper across the chest. Her hair was windswept and she looked exceptionally tired. Inuyasha smiled at her.
"So what is it?" he asked.
"It is class sign ups for fall classes." she handed him the information and he looked at it with mild interest.
"Whatever." he tossed it to the end of the bed.
"You are going to Ithaca too?" Kagome sat down on a guest chair, making herself comfortable. "That is cool. I am too. So is Miroku. But I bet you knew Miroku was. You two are like best friends right? I've talked to him a few times. He comes down to the club on teenage night a lot. He says that he's only seen you four or five times since, well, he said that you don't like visitors very much. Your brother was in the lobby he should be up any minute now. Do you get to go outside often? I see they have a lovely garden outside. Well, obviously it's outside, I mean if it were inside it would be a greenhouse, or an atrium. I guess they could have an atrium I've never really looked around though-"
"Kagome?"
"they could very well have one. A lot of rehab places do. My brother had one, but that was a different place all together so I don't know."
"Kagome?"
"My dad would probably know. Maybe I could ask him, or I could just take the time to look around or something. I don't know."
"KAGOME!" she stopped talking abruptly and looked up at Inuyasha. "It is okay to breathe ya know." Kagome laughed and nodded. "You don't have to feel awkward being here. No one comes to see me. Well, my family does. But it is nice to have a guest that isn't related. Usually I don't want them to come but I don't much like talking to myself." he paused for a second before adding, "So, I guess you'll do."
"You really know how to smooth talk a girl don't ya?" Kagome shook her head at him.
"Hey, I didn't get through high school on my good looks." he laughed and then suddenly stopped and looked down at his lap.
"What's wrong?" Kagome asked, walking over to him.
"Nothing," he sniffled and looked away toward the window. "Maybe you should just leave. Thanks for bringing me the course sign ups." he sniffled again and Kagome saw his cheek glistening in the light.
"Why are you crying?" Kagome sat on the edge of his bed and looked around to see his face.
"God, why did it have to be you? Of all the people for me to break down in front of, it had to be you." he shook his head, his sadness replaced by anger.
"What is wrong with me?"
"You and I have an understanding that, we hate each other. And now you are comforting me?"
"Well I can't comfort you if you don't tell me what is wrong." Kagome offered.
"I am a fucking freak!"
"Because of one little scar? You are more conceded than I thought."
"That isn't just it. I can't play football anymore. That was my scholarship. I was going to play football, and maybe basketball, neither of which I can do anymore. I fractured my arm into 'irreparable' pieces, and my leg is all shot to hell, including my knee cap which is very important to an athlete, in case you didn't know. This is the best I've spoken in weeks, and that is saying something since it didn't usually take me twenty minutes to blow up at someone, and everything has just gone to hell. My girlfriend died in a fiery car accident and it was all my fault, and I just fucking wish that whoever had pulled me out of that car had let me die in there with Kikyou."
Kagome felt tears in her eyes. She didn't realize that his injuries went deeper than how he thought about himself. She didn't think of the fact that he couldn't play football again, or that his girlfriend had died because of him. She didn't want to feel pity for the jerk, but she couldn't be cold to him. She timidly put her arm around his shoulder and tried to comfort him the best she could. Suddenly his hands came around her waist and he cried onto her shoulder. She embraced him back and he cried until nightfall, at which point Inuyasha fell asleep.
